HILLIER, MARIE SUSIE (Nee Way)

October 2 1944- August 26 2024

Passed away peacefully on Monday August 26 2024 at John M Gray - Partridge Berry Path Long Term Care Facility in St. Anthony, NL.

Marie was born in Flowers Cove, NL on October 2 1944 to Pearce and Mary Way, she was the 2nd oldest of a family of six. At the age of 14 she moved to St. Anthony with her friends and attended school at the Grenfell School. She stayed and worked at the Hospital. During that time she met Woodrow Hillier and they married April 1965. She continued to work at the hospital for 49 years and started as a nurses aid and later became an Operating Room Technician, the OR became her life and co workers became more like family to her.  She loved her family deeply, her son Dion  and especially her only Grandchild Braeden who she considered to be her whole world.

Marie was pre deceased by many family members but leaving  to mourn are her son Dion, Grandson Braeden, siblings Aub (Marge), Gus(Gennie), Glad, Gord (Roxanne), large circle of nieces and nephews and a large extended Way/Hillier Family.

The family of Marie would like to thank Shirley’s Haven, John M Gray and Partridge Berry Path staff for the exceptional care and comfort she received and her family will be forever grateful to you all.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home in St. Anthony on Sunday September 1st, 2024 from 7-9pm (Public) and Monday September 2nd, 2024 from 2-4pm (Public), 7-8pm (Public) and 8-9pm (Family only). the funeral service will be held at 11am on Tuesday September 3rd from the St. Anthony Pentecostal Church in St. Anthony, burial will follow the service in the Pentecostal Cemetery.

HILLIER, LEWIS

March 11, 1946 - June 22, 2023

Lewis Hillier was born to the late Stanley and Laura Hillier on March 11, 1946. He lived in Griquet. A fisherman in his earlier years, he met the love of his life, Joyce Budden in February 1967 and married in February 1968. Together they raised five children, Wilma, Kirby, Kent, Keon and Wanetta. Lewis worked with a logging company until his retirement.

He was a very hard-working man who loved and cared very much for his family. Two of his favorite hobbies were moose hunting and trout fishing. He will be sadly missed by his wife and children and grandchildren.

Lewis passed on June 22, 2023 at the age of 77 years.

He leaves to mourn his Wife, Joyce; Children: Wilma (Darryl), Kirby, Kent, Keon, Wanette; Grandchildren: Dustin, Britney, Nikki, Jorden, Nathan, Nolan, Tori, Summer, Paris, Makenzie, Kalen, Ciarra; Great-Grandchildren: Landen, Aiden, Grayson, Ellie, Brady, Gabrial, Olivia, Ryn; Siblings: Gerald, Wilfred, Clayton, Elizabeth, Minnie, Garland as well as many extended family and friends.

Lewis is predeceased by his Grandson: River; Parents: Stanley & Laura Hillier; Parents In Law: Leander & Ruby Budden; Brothers: Abe, Tom, Ralph, David; Sisters: Mabel, Marion; and Brother In Law: Lloyd Budden.

Visitation will be held at the Pentecostal Church in Roddickton beginning Sunday June 25th 2023 with a family only visitation in the evening, public visitation on Monday June 26th 2023 followed by the funeral service at 2pm on Tuesday June 27th, 2023.

HILLIER, LUCY EVELYN

December 18, 1940 – May 24, 2021

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Lucy Hillier announce her peaceful passing at the Labrador Grenfell Health Long term Care Center in Happy Valley-Goose Bay on May 24, 2021 at the age of 80 years. Lucy spent many hour volunteering at several organizations while living in Pasadena, NL. She enjoyed many road trips with family and she was a long time member of the Tops community were she found her new love of walking. When she started walking you couldn’t stop her, she was always content when walking and greeting people in whatever neighborhood that she found herself in that day. She will be dearly missed by all her family and friends. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to all of the staff at the Long Term Care Home in Happy Valley-Goose Bay. Lucy will be sadly missed by her Sons, Wilson (Christine), Nelson, Glen, Gary; Daughter, Connie (Stephen) as well as 13 Grandchildren, 10 Greatgrandchildren and a circle of extended family and friends. Lucy is predeceased by her Husband, Ernest Hiller, her Daughter, Doris Budden, her Son, Sandy Hillier, Parents, Eli and Agnes Humby, as well as her Brothers and Sisters. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the Alzheimer Society of NL or the Labrador Health Long Term Care Center Helping Hands. HILLIER, ISABELLA

On Saturday, May 23, 2020 Isabella Hillier, loving mother and family matriarch, passed away at the age of 92. Isabella was born on May 15, 1928 in Bide Arm, NL to Obediah & Leah (Randell) Canning. Isabella had a passion for helping and providing services for others. Her passions included: knitting, crocheting and crafting of all sorts. She faithfully served her church. She was known for her infectious smile and kind and compassionate spirit toward all. Isabella was predeceased by her father, Obediah, her mother, Leah and brother Hayward; husbands George Adams and Hedley Hillier; son Roy Adams, and grandson Cory Gillard. She is survived by her loving children: Marilyn (Ford), Juanita (Andrew), Leah (Rex), Ruth (Don), Charles (Elizabeth), Sue, Fern (Sterling), Don (Angela), Phyllis (Tim) and Angela (Wade). Also left to mourn are a large circle of grandchildren, great- grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, 4 sisters, 2 brothers, a very large, loving family. She will also be missed by a large circle of friends. A family funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at Apostolic Faith Church, Bide Arm, NL. A memorial for family and friends is being planned for a later date, due to current restrictions.

HILLIER, SYDNEY RALPH “Pap”

April 16, 1934 – March 1, 2020

Passed away March 1, 2020 at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 85 years. Ralph, better known as ‘Pap’ was born and raised in Griquet to Stanley & Laura Hillier. On December 30, 1954 he married Nellie Adams and together they raised seven children. Pap was a fisherman, blaster – a jack of all trades but will be fondly remembered for his love of darts and storytelling. Pap was also known for his love of children. Each child was made to feel special in their time spent with him and returned their love for him. He will always be remembered and live in our hearts forever. Ralph Leaves to Mourn with a lifetime of memories, his Sons, Charles (Carol Anne), Carl (Shirley); Daughters, Ina (Wilbourne), Eileen (Eric), Glowena (Morris), Gaye (Harold), Teena (Morgan); Brothers, Gerald (Linda), Lewis (Joyce), Wilfred (Marilyn), Clayton (Susan), Garland (Joan); Sisters, Minnie (Roland) Tucker, Elizabeth (Hedley) Pilgrim. Ralph will also be greatly missed by his 14 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and close friends. HILLIER, ALLAN HUBERT

September 25th, 1936 – August 1, 2019

Allan Hillier, a kind hearted, gentle, hardworking man was well loved by family and friends. He was born to Hedley and Pearl Hillier. He married Cassie Burden on July 22, 1954 and together they raised eight of their children. At age 10, he worked on Schooner with his father. He became a business man with his first dump truck in 1964. Later in 1972, he started a family business known as Hillier’s Golden Eagle with a garage and oil tanker which became Hillier’s Ultramar in 2008. Everyone was his friend and he was always there to lend a helping hand and provide his expertise. He was a great community supporter. He never truly retired from running errands and getting slabs from Main Brook. His 1985 diesel truck was well known and recognized with slabs piled high, truck dragging the ground and a big smile. He was in his glee. A wonderful, caring, compassionate man who wore many “hats” to all those who called him dad, ole’ man, pop, pop pop, Al and friend. We love you! He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his Sons, Bob (Jenny), Lawrence (Audrey), Glen (Shelly), Gary; Daughters, Yvonne (George), Joann (Gene), Present in Our Hearts- Jennifer Hillier-Penney; Daughter in Law, Lesley Hillier; Brother, Graham; Sisters, Louise, Dorothy, Ada, Vida, and Neta. Allan will also be greatly missed by his grandchildren. Great grandchildren, and a large circle of other relatives and close friends. HILLIER, MOREY GLEN

Passed away on February 15th, 2018 at the age of 56 years. Morey was born March 30, 1961 in Griquet to Roland and Annie Hillier. He moved to St. Anthony when he was nine. Morey was a lover of sports, especially ice hockey and soft ball. He loved children and noticed each one he seen. He was an avid lover of anything outdoors: hunting, cutting wood, fishing, and snowmobiling. He spent his time working as an autobody mechanic and was known by everyone for his work ethic. He was known for his two wonderful daughters: Emily and Hannah. Morey was a storyteller and could light up a room with his stories of good times. His stories and memory will be remembered by everyone he knew. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his children Emily and Hannah; Mother Annie Hillier; Sisters Gloria (Clem), Winnie (Rick), Vivian (Victor); Brothers Fred (Reeta), Tony (Margaret), Robbie (Karen); Nan Sadie, Joan, and Karla as well as a large circle of family and friends. Morey is predeceased by his Father Roland Hillier; Jehu Parsons, and Donna Parsons. Visitation was held from the Bethel Pentecostal Church in St. Anthony from where the funeral was held on Wednesday, February 21st, 2018 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Bessey officiating. HILLIER, JOHN WESLEY

January 15th, 1944 – September 7th, 2017

John Wesley was born to Hedley and Pearl Hillier on January 15th, 1944 in Griquet, NL. He was one of 10 children. In 1965 he met and married Jessie Eileen Newman and together they had three children, Paul, Todd, and Nadine, whom they raised in their family home in St. Lunaire – Griquet. John and Jessie were blessed with seven grandchildren: Samantha, Jonathan, Carly, Zachary, Lindsey, Benjamin, and Brooklynn; and one great-grandson, Austin. John’s passion was not only for his family but also his work and business. In the early years John worked on the boats with his father and also as a truck driver. In the mid 1970’s he purchased a gas station and later built a garage. He continued by expanding into heavy equipment. John was a very quiet and gentle man who did his best to be a friend to everyone. He loved his family and church family. He will be missed by all that knew him. John passed away on September 7th, 2017 at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 73 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his Sons Paul (Sonya), Todd (Elaine); Daughter Nadine (Michael); Brothers Allan, Graham (Zonya), Lonny; Sisters Louise, Dorothy (Bill), Ada (Ted), Vida (Winston), Neta; Grandchildren Jonathon, Zachary, Lindsey, Benjamin, Samantha, Carly, Brooklynn and Great-Grandchild Austin. He was predeceased by his Wife Jessie; Parents Hedley and Pearl Hillier; Brothers Roland and Kaye Hillier; Father in Law Benjamin Newman and Sister in Law Cassie Hillier. Visitation was held from the Pentecostal Tabernacle in St. Lunaire Griquet from where the funeral took place on September 11th, 2017 at 2:00 pm with Pastor John Baker officiating. Interment followed. HILLIER, VIOLET CLARA

Passed away at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital on the 28th day of April 2017. Mrs. Violet Clara Hillier of St. Lunaire – Griquet was in her 75th year. She leaves to mourn with loving memoires her husband Carl, her Two Children Doris(Frank) and Eileen(Shawn), Grandchildren Travis(Angela), Lyton(Chelsea), Jordan and Caitlin, Great Grandchildren Tori and Kelly as well as large circle of extended family and friends. Visitation was held at the Anglican church in Dark Tickle from which the funeral was held on Tuesday May 2nd, 2017 at 2:00pm with Rev. Katie Flynn Officiating. Passed away October 6, 2016 at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital at the age of 78 years. She Leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her Husband of 62 years, Allan Hillier; Children Bob, Lawrence (Audrey), Glen (Shelly), Gary, Yvonne (George), Joann (Gene), Jennifer (Dean); Daughter-in-law Lesley; her Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren; 1 brother, 8 sisters as well as a large circle of relatives and friends. She is predeceased by her parents Fred and Gladys Burden, Son Scott, and Sister Florence. Visitation was held at the Calvary Pentecostal Tabernacle in St. Lunaire-Griquet from where the funeral service was held on Sunday, October 9. 2016 at 2:00pm with Pastor Wayne Baker officiating.
