PYE, ROY MAXWELL

It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that the family of Roy Maxwell Pye announce his passing on October 27th, 2024 at Curtis Memorial Hospital after a short illness. Roy was a very special devoted spouse, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Roy is predeceased by his parents Frank and Violet Pye, Son L.S. Travis Pye, brother Ward, and special friend William Strugnell.

Left to mourn with a broken heart is his loving partner of 25 years Nancy, Daughter Vanessa (Dennis), Son’s Matthew (Corinne), Marcus (Christina), Nancy’s children Cecil and Charmaine (Matt). Grandchildren Isiah, Emma, Maria, Connor, Dawson, Callie and Nancy’s Granddaughter Jillian.

Roy leaves to Mourn his siblings Clara Rumbolt (Raymond deceased) Stewart Pye (Laura), Guy Pye (Nora), Lloyd Pye (Ena), Alvin Pye, and Valerie Russell (Reginald deceased) and his sister in law Verna Pye. As well many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Especially Nancy’s special sister Pansy and family.

Roy was a long time employee with the Canadian Coast Guard. He had a 37 year career starting from a Weather Observer to a Supervisor of the Loran C. Roy loved to watch a good game of curling and a good ol Toronto Maple Leaf payoff game. He loved to have a good game of cards with his family; a game of darts and a cold one with his friends. He was also very talented in playing the accordion and he loved spending time with his family every chance he got.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the nurses in St. Lewis, Sherri-Lee and Cynthia who worked to get him out of St. Lewis. The fabulous team in Curtis Memorial Hospital ICU, who worked tirelessly to ensure he received the best possible care. All off the Doctors, ICU team and RT, Mike who made sure Roy was cared for right up to his last fighting breath. We would like to express special thanks to Rev. Vernon Short (Uncle) and his wife Aunt Maisie for travelling from Flowers Cove to pray with Roy and his family. We would like to thank the MHA, Minister of Health and MP who tried to facilitate the best possible care. We will be forever grateful for the support and love shown by our amazing family, and wonderful friends, caring for everything from our children and helping with the funeral service.

Charles Strangemore

April 11th 1948 – October 24th 2024

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Charles Strangemore announce his passing on Thursday, October 24th, 2024, at the Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 76 years.

Charl leaves to mourn with the fondest and most precious memories, his Wife Gaye (Cull), his Children Nicole (Eddy), Tammy (Rick), and his Grandchildren Amy (Jamison), Jonah (Leigha) and Andrew (Nicole).

His Siblings Selwyn (Ivy), Guy, Marilyn, Eva (Riley), & Joyce, and his Sister-in-law Selma.

His Brother and Sister-in-laws, Mae, Doris (Tom), Gerald (Nina), Wayne (Sharon), Millicent (Ern), Val (Jane), Wavey (Eli), Kevin (Yvonne) and Brother-in-Law Neil

A huge circle of Nieces, Nephews and other family members that will always remember him with a smile.

Charl is also leaving behind two very important families that he was so proud to be a part of. The House Family, Baxter, Don and Sheila, and his Transport Canada Family at the St. Anthony Airport.

Charl is predeceased by his Parents Hayward and Naomie, Sister Nita, Brother Carl, Brother-in-laws Tony Walker and Roy Burt, his Parents-in-Law Joshua and Gertie Cull, and Siblings in Law Sam Kinsella, Dennis Patey and Joy Simms.
The funeral Service will be held at 2pm on Tuesday October 29th, 2024, cremation will follow with burial at a later date.

WILCOX, VIOLA

Mrs. Viola Flossie Wilcox of Roddickton, NL. She was born in Hampton, NL on August 3, 1931 to Walter and Matilda Fillier. She has three brothers: Ralph (deceased), Kenneth (deceased) and Jerry (Ontario); four sisters: Bessie (deceased), Elma (deceased), Sylvia (deceased), and Ella (La Scie, NL).

It was on August 26, 1950, she married the love of her life Harvey John Wilcox at Wild Cove, Canada Bay, NL. Shortly after, they moved to Roddickton where she raised her family of three sons: Raymond (deceased), Winston, and Leander; four daughters: Priscilla, Ruby (deceased), Belinda, and Angela.

She was a very family person who loved to bake, knit, especially knitting quilts. In her earlier years, she did work at the Englee fish plant. She learned how to make bread when she was ten years old. She became a Christian in 1958 and faithfully served the Lord thereafter.

It was on October 25, 2024 at 12:30 PM she passed from this life to reap her heavenly reward. Left to share and cherish her memories are her

CARROLL, ELIZABETH MARY

Elizabeth Mary Carroll (Hancock) passed peacefully away at Charles Curtis Memorial Hospital on Oct 24/24 at the age of 82. She was a loving mom to her 6 children, a heart of gold. Left to mourn her children Anita, Joe(Terry Lyn), Agnes(Austin), Calvin(Frances), Todd(Rhonda), Beverly. 11 grandchildren Denata(Shaun), Victoria(Nicholas), Gregory(Nicole), Alexander(Megan), Jesse, Shawn(Elizabeth), Olivia(Ravii), Jonathon(Hannah) Brandon, Shannon. 5 great grand children, sister Theresa Reardon, brother Phillip ( Gail), brother in law Guy Howell, special friend Frances Lewis. Predeceased by her mom and dad Agnes and Joseph Hancock, brother John and sister Margaret Howell, brother in law Ed Reardon.

Thank you to the staff Charles Curtis Hospital for the wonderful care and love ye gave our mom this pass 5 months, ye are angels, also staff of Shirley’s Haven for the last 15 years there, she dearly loved it there, and the staff.

March 17, 1942 - October 20, 2024

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our Mom/Nan at the Curtis Memorial Hospital, St. Anthony, on Sunday October 20th at the age of 82.

She will be missed by her Children: Shirley (Barry), Ward (Celia), Ruby (Ed), Jarvis; Grandchildren: Sabrina, Pamela (Cory), Pierrette (Murray), Tamara (Steve), Nathan (Penney), Kendra (Greg), Belle (Nathan); Great grandchildren: Keegan (Theresa), Kylan (Kanisha), Kaine, Kaci Rae, Kai, Reid, Bella and Orion.

She is also survived by her 2 sisters: Nellie Parrill and Emily Patey; Sisters-in-law: Esther Elliott and Naomi Mitchelmore.

Eliza is predeceased by her husband: John; Daughter: Rhonda; Son: Elvis; Her parents: Austin and Evangeline Mitchelmore; Sister: Cora; Brothers: Reginald (Mary), Curtis Mitchelmore; Brother-in-laws: Ethelbert (Kitty), Ivany (Rita), Doug (Virtue), Norman Parrill and Herb Patey; and Sister in law: Frances (John).

The family would like to thank the staff at Ivy Durley Place, Flowers Cove Health Center and Curtis Memorial Hospital for the exceptional care and compassion shown to our Mom/Nan over the past few months. Your kindness will never be forgotten.

FLYNN, MARIE MARY

November 25, 1940 - October 23, 2024

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beautiful mother at Curtis Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at the age of 83.

She will be greatly missed by her children: Marina (Ron), Margaret (Dave), Josephine (Len), Stephen Jr. (Eileen), Cynthia (Paul), Alicia (Babatope), Phyllis (Tino), Clyde (Stephanie), and Danny (Deanna).

She is survived by her loving brothers and sisters: Steve (Judy), Josephine (Herb), Gerald (Doris), Frank (Evelyn), Imelda (Don), Pat (Clara), Anne (Steve), Christine (Jerome), Clara (Randy), Dan (Sheila), as well as a very large number of Grandchildren, Greatgrandchildren, who will forever miss her kisses, and many friends.

Marie is predeceased by Parents; Daniel and Margaret Carroll, her loving Husband: Stephen Flynn; Son: Clyde Daniel Flynn; Daughter: Juanita Flynn; brother: Lawrence Carroll; Companion: Leamond Fillier; and Grandsons: Andy Whiteway, Coady Dempsey, and Shane Flynn.

The family would like to send a special thanks to Marg, Cynthia, and Jose for providing care and love to our mom in her last years. As well, a special thanks to the kind and caring staff of the Curtis Memorial Hospital for the awesome care and compassion shown to our mom and us.

COMPTON, MARY HELLEN

Mary Hellen Compton (nee Colbourne) of Roddickton passed away October 7, 2024, age 74, at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony surrounded by family.

Mary was a lifelong member of the John Wesley United Church of Roddickton.  She was an avid reader and loved to knit, quilt and cross stitch.  She took great pride in her work as Conche Post Mistress and always had a pot of soup and fresh bread baking when one of her boys came home.  Her happiest times were spent visiting and laughing with her sisters and friends.

Mary will be dearly missed by her loving husband of 56 years Garfield Compton; sons Tom (Stephanie), Peter (Elizabeth), and Perry (Rebecca); sister Mabel (Norman); sisters-in-law Betty Colbourne and Patricia Colbourne; brothers in law Leighton Patey and Norman Tiller; grandchildren Joshua, Reagan, Sable and Anson; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

She was predeceased by her parents Thomas and Castalena Colbourne; brothers Ernest and Willie; sisters Edna and Bernice and parents in law Albert and Velma Compton.

EDDISON, WINNIFRED HAZEL

May 5, 1944 - October 11, 2024

Winnifred Hazel Eddison (nee Young) of Noddy Bay, NL passed away in the presence of her loved ones at the Charles Curtis Memorial Hospital on October 11, 2024 at the age of 80 years.

Winnie was born in Quirpon to Thomas and Alfreda ( Nee Roberts) Young, Her mom passed away when she was seven years old and she became a mother figure to her brothers that continued throughout her lifetime. She married Wesley Eddison of Noddy Bay on January 24, 1964 and raised five children together. She worked at the fish plant until she had her first battle with cancer. She fought cancer on three occasions but always remained witty and funny throughout it all. She always maintained that moonshine was the best medicine for any and all  illnesses. She will certainly be remembered by her family for her amazing cooking skills, berry picking, knitting and making quilts. Her quilts are in all corners of the world with a few in bed and breakfast businesses on the Northern Peninsula. 

Winnie leaves to Mourn with a lifetime of wonderful memories, her children: Dwayne ( Shirley), Sheldon ( Tracey), Barry ( Kelly) Jackie and Tanya ( David); Sisters: Florence, Nellie and half sister Barbara; Brothers: Lloyd (Joyce), Eric (Moriah), Norman (Glenda), Algie and  half brother Thomas; Brother in law Francis ( Selma) Hedderson. Grandchildren: Marcel, Stefan; April, Alexander, Dayna, Hayward, Erin, Ethan, Amanda, Aaron and 13 great grandchildren. Winnie will also be greatly missed by a large circle of other relatives and close friends. Too many to name but Matilda Pynn, Graham Burden, Hazel Hedderson, Beryl Pilgrim, Karen Patey. Joy Hedderson ( Both of them) , Carl Hedderson ( Her psychiatrist), 10 well fed chickens and the rest of Aunt Blanche's children are a few. 

Winnie was Predeceased by her parents and husband Wesley. Father in law Walter Eddison and Mother in law Victoria ( nee Roberts) Brother in laws Ambrose ( Elsie) Hedderson, Nimrod Hedderson, Stan ( Nellie) Bishop. James ( Flo) Barron. Sister in laws Johanna (Ernest)Hillier, Blanche( Peter) Hedderson, Mary Ann (Israel) Blake  and Sarah Jane ( Willie) Bishop.


Visitation will take place from the Central United Church at Quirpon Branch  on October 14th 2024 at 6-9pm and October 15, 2024 at 1-3pm and 6 to 9pm.  The funeral will take place on  Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at 2:00 pm with Reverend Arthur Kinsella officiating. Interment to follow at the Quirpon Cemetery.

APPLIN, COLIN

With great sadness the family of Colin Applin announce his passing at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on the 9th Day of October, 2024 at the age of 62

Jean Florence Bussey of St. Lunaire-Griquet passed away at the John M Gray Centre on October 10, 2024 at the age of 76 years.

Jean Leaves to Mourn with a lifetime of memories, her Husband of 57 years: Guy Bussey; her Son: Jake (Darlene), Tony; Sisters: Lucy, Bernetta (Francis); Brother: Rod (Lorriane), Freeman (Flossie), Albert (Lorriane), & Don (Gloria).; Grandchildren: Emma, Jacob, and Benjamin. Jean will also be greatly missed by a large circle of other relatives, close friends and church family.

Jean was Pre-deceased by a Baby Girl; Parents: Albert & Caroline Curlew; Brothers: Melvin, Wilfred (Pearl).

Visitation to take place from the Calvary Pentecostal Tabernacle in St. Lunaire-Griquet on Saturday, October 12th 2024, time to be announced soon. The funeral will take place on Sunday, October 13, 2024 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Butler officiating. Interment to follow in the Griquet Untied Cemetery.
