FILLIER, RHODA

September 11, 1930 – August 27, 2019

Rhoda passed away on Aug. 27, 2019 at John M. Gray Nursing home in St. Anthony. Rhoda Fillier was born in Williamsport, NL on Sept. 11, 1930 to Harry & Faith (Canning) Randell. On April. 13. 1949 she married Hubert Fillier of Englee. To complete the family, six children were born: Hardy, Leamond, Harold, Joan, Edwin & Varrick. They later accepted a foster son (Howard Fillier) into their home for five years. Rhoda worked hard to provide and care for her family. For several years, she was employed at the local fish plant. She also loved the great outdoors and along with her friend Eileen, spent much time rabbit catching, trouting and berry picking. In later years, she enjoyed travelling out of town to visit her relatives. She also loved her evening drives around the area with her friend, Fannie. Left to mourn her passing are her daughter: Joan Randell (George), sons: Edwin (Lily) and Varrick (Pansy); foster son: Howard (Evelyn); daughters-in-law: Patsy & Mary, stepsister: Edith Newman (John), grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many other relatives & friends. She is predeceased by husband: Hubert, sons: Hardy, Leamond & Harold. Visitation was held from the Salvation Army Church in Englee with Majors Wilfred and Wavey Simms officiating on August 30, 2019 at 11:00 am. Interment followed. WILCOX, WANDA WANETTA

February 27, 1956 – August 26, 2019

Passed August 26th, 2019 at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 63 years. She leaves to cherish memories, her daughters; Laurie (Fern) Schnabel, Gwen Wilcox, Tanya Sayner; Son, Kevin Wilcox; Brothers, Gideon (Judy) Randell, Vay Randell, Ambrose Randell, David (Sharon) Randell, Osbourne (Roxanne) Randell, as well as six grandchildren, three step grandchildren, one step great granddaughter and a large circle of friends and relatives. Visitation was held from the Apostolic Faith Church in Englee from where the funeral was held on August 29, 2019 at 3:00 pm with Pastor Michael Ivany officiating. Interment followed. MITCHELMORE, STEPHEN

December 22nd, 1958 – August 20th, 2019

Passed away August 20, 2019 at the age of 60 years. Steve was a man who loved life. He was always on the go and could often be found out fishing. He had many friends. He loved to have a good laugh. If he wasn’t on the water you could find him in the woods at his cabin. He loved his husky Storm. He gave what he had with his whole heart and he was always caring for others. He leaves to mourn his Mom, Eleanor; Wife, Lorna Hedderson; Brothers, Lamboyde (Cheryl) and Alvin; Nephews Dustin and Chad; Aunts, Carrie, Effie, Nora & Millie; Uncle Frank; His very special cousin Elizabeth (Sis), and many wonderful friends, cousins, & family members. Steve was pre-deceased by his Dad, Willie Austin Mitchelmore. Visitation was held from St. Andrew’s Anglican Church in Lower Cove from where the funeral was held on Tuesday, August 27, 2019 with Rev. WHELAN, GERALD

February 14, 1940 – August 20, 2019

Passed away August 20, 2019 at the age of 79 years. He leaves to mourn his wife, Ada; Children Brian (Peggy), Todd; Grandchildren, Chloe, Jeffrey; Brothers, Calvin (Mabel), Claude (Sylvia), Roland (Kizzie), Weston (Marilyn); Sisters Meg, Eileen (Martin), Stella (George), Amelia (Ronald), Gaye (Bill), & Jill; and many friends. Gerald was predeceased by his Mom and Dad, Stella and Caleb Whalen. Visitation was held from St. Mary’s Anglican Church in St. Anthony from where the funeral took place on August 26th, 2019 with Rev. ELLSWORTH, CLARISA MAUDE

February 01, 1919 – August 22, 2019

Clarisa Maud  Clements Ellsworth was born February 01, 1919 to parents Michael Thomas & Lavinia Clements of Wild Cove, Canada Bay, NL. She lived In that village until she was nine (9) years of age at which time she relocated To Canada Harbour to start a career in house keeping. At twelve (12) years of age she moved to Gray Island to do house keeping for a resident  family , in 1933 she relocated to the town of Englee to do housekeeping for the owner of John Reeves Ltd. While at and during her stay in that community she met the love of her life (Patrick Stephen Ellsworth, deceased) and on November 23, 1935 these two were joined together in marriage and moved to Roddickton to take up permanent residence in that community. She was blessed with 9 children, 4 sons, and 5 daughters, she at that time took on and dedicated herself to a full time live in mom. On September of 2015 at the age of 96 yrs she was admitted to the Grenfell Hospital in St. Anthony and on March of 2016 she took up residence at the John Gray long term care center where she remained until she passed peacefully into the presence of the Lord whom she loved and served she will be forever remembered  and sadly missed by her family & friends. She leaves to mourn sons: Ronald (Hazel) Reginald, Myer (Denise), Colin (Lorinda), daughters: Josephine, Sadie (Roy), Joan & Sheila, 25 grand children, 47 great grand children, and 12 great great grand children. Visitation was held from the Calvary Pentecostal Temple in Roddickton. The funeral was held on Sunday, August 25, 2019 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Angel officiating. Interment followed. PILGRIM, FRANCES JEAN

August 31, 1953 – August 14, 2019

Passed away August 14, 2019 at the Western Regional Memorial Hospital in Corner Brook at the age of 65 years. She leaves to mourn with a lifetime of memories, her Brothers; Guy (Bernice), Gerald (Olive), Larry (Ethel); Sisters Marie Wiseman, Kay (John); Judy (Don), Vera (Brian); Nephews and Nieces, Trudy Fitzpatrick (Keith), Christopher Alexander (Karen), Sherry Simms (Tom), John Pilgrim, Molly Pilgrim; Reggie Pilgrim (Jenetta), Mark Pilgrim (Kayla), Martin Pilgrim (Kayla), Perry Wiseman (Rochelle), Susan Wiseman, Jeremy Wiseman (Shannon), Michael Patey, Marilyn Patey, Matthew Pilgrim, as well as a large circle of extended family and friends. Visitation was held from the United Church in St. Anthony Bight with the funeral taking place on August 18th, 2019 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Maich officiating. Interment followed. TUCKER, SILBY JAMES

Passed away August 13, 2019, at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital, St. Anthony, Newfoundland.  Silby James TUCKER in his 92rd year.  He leaves to mourn with fond memories his wife of seventy five years, Delilah, their children: Eliza (Winston), Louise (Lester), Shelia (Roy), and Patricia (Jack), Robert (Jean), Ricky (Rose), Leonard, and Harvey (Dale). Grand Children, Great Grand Children and Great-Great Grand Children. Silby was born and raised in Ship Cove, Newfoundland, where at the age of 12 he joined his dad in the fishing boat, life was not easy in those years, but thru hard work and determination, he provided and saw the family thru the hard times.  It was in the early ‘60s that the scourge of TB visited our family and resulted in Sibly being hospitalized for 6 months, followed by 2 years of treatment and recovery. It was not long after, that he was back fishing, hunting, doing the things he loved. Following the decline of the fishery, he found work elsewhere, in the labour fields, wherever he could. As a hunter, and provider, there was none better, we seemed to be never in want of something on the table for Sunday dinners. He is pre-deceased by his parents, Kenneth and Elizabeth Tucker, siblings half-sister Verdie (Tom) and half-brother Roderick, brothers, Wilson (Jessie), Valen (Daisy) and Wilfred (Mabel) sister Mariam (Newton Morgan), and daughter-in-law Mary (Leonard) also children Olive, Gordon, Betty and Baby Boy, Grandchildren; Whyman Colbourne, Robert Colbourne (Diane), Jeremy Patey and Great Grand Child Christopher Simms. Visitation was held from Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home, West St. St. Anthony. The funeral service was held from the Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home, West St. St. Anthony on 2:00 pm Friday, Aug 16, 2019.  After cremation, interment arrangements are to be held at a later date at United Church Cemetery, Ship Cove. PARSONS, VERA MAY

It is with regret and great sadness that the family of Vera Parsons announce her passing at the age of 90 years. Vera was born in Wesleyville and moved to Griquet at the age of 9 years. She met and married Everett Parsons and together they raised seven children. Vera was a very independent woman whose dedicated her life to caring for other people and dearly loved her children. They were her life’s focus. Vera faced many challenges in her life from losing her father at a very young age, and was a caregiver to many, never complaining and took life as it was handed to her. She lived independently on her own for the past 22 years up to a week before her passing. She leaves to mourn her children; Lloyd (Rhoda), Stella (George), Louise, Bill (Yvonne), Donna (John), Kathy and Chad (Lin); grandchildren Berni (Todd), Marion (Nelson), Brad, Perry (Pam), Todd (Sherry), Billy (D.iane), Kristen (Simon), and Stephen (Michelle); great-grandchildren Gabe, Bailey, Blaine, Gabriel, Isaac, Zachary, Dorian, Mela, Brooklyn, Braylon, and Braxton. The funeral service will take place at All Saints Anglican Church in St. Lunaire-Griquet on Saturday, August 10th at 2:00 pm with Deacon Arthur Kinsella officiating and interment to follow in the Anglican Church Cemetery. HILLIER, ALLAN HUBERT

September 25th, 1936 – August 1, 2019

Allan Hillier, a kind hearted, gentle, hardworking man was well loved by family and friends. He was born to Hedley and Pearl Hillier. He married Cassie Burden on July 22, 1954 and together they raised eight of their children. At age 10, he worked on Schooner with his father. He became a business man with his first dump truck in 1964. Later in 1972, he started a family business known as Hillier’s Golden Eagle with a garage and oil tanker which became Hillier’s Ultramar in 2008. Everyone was his friend and he was always there to lend a helping hand and provide his expertise. He was a great community supporter. He never truly retired from running errands and getting slabs from Main Brook. His 1985 diesel truck was well known and recognized with slabs piled high, truck dragging the ground and a big smile. He was in his glee. A wonderful, caring, compassionate man who wore many “hats” to all those who called him dad, ole’ man, pop, pop pop, Al and friend. We love you! He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his Sons, Bob (Jenny), Lawrence (Audrey), Glen (Shelly), Gary; Daughters, Yvonne (George), Joann (Gene), Present in Our Hearts- Jennifer Hillier-Penney; Daughter in Law, Lesley Hillier; Brother, Graham; Sisters, Louise, Dorothy, Ada, Vida, and Neta. Allan will also be greatly missed by his grandchildren. Great grandchildren, and a large circle of other relatives and close friends. Allan was Pre-deceased by Parents, Hedley and Pearl Hillier; Son, Scott; Brothers, John, Roland and Kaye. Visitation was held from the Calvary Pentecostal Tabernacle in St. Lunaire-Griquet, NL from where the funeral was held on Sunday, August 4, 2019 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Bill Harnum officiating.
