ANDREWS, GORDON (GORDIE) SAMUEL

September 7, 1978 - January 30, 2024

Gordie was born in St. Anthony, NL to Garland & Elvida Andrews. He grew up in St. Anthony, Ship Cove, and Westport. In his later years, he settled in Carbonear and recently, to Victoria, Conception Bay North, NL. Gordie loved working on anything with a motor- especially his 4 wheeler, or bike as he used to call it.

He is survived by his Mother: Elvida; Brothers: Stephen (Kathy), Michael (Stephanie); Nephews: Jarod, Jayden; Nieces: Joehana, Samantha; Special Aunt: Sara Jacobs; Aunts: Loretta Osmond, Violet Andrews, Violet Humby, Eliza Pittman (Randolph); Uncle: Adolphus Andrews; Special Cousin and friend: Chris Andrews (Alice Ward), as well as many cousins, friends, and relatives.

He is predeceased by his father: Garland Andrews; Grandparents: Walter & Katherine, Gilbert & Jane Canning; Aunts: Juanita Andrews, Bessie Hurley (Samuel); Uncles: Arthur Jacobs, Alonzo Osmond, Ralph Humby, Stephen Andrews (Mary), Samuel Andrews, Gordon Canning, and Jobie Canning.

Cremation has taken place with a celebration of life to be announced in Summer 2024.

ELLSWORTH, ALZENA EMMA

January 27, 1943 - March 6, 2024

Alzena was born on January 27, 1943 to Cecil and Ameta Newman. She grew up in Englee where she lived all of her life. At age 16 she met the love of her life, Charles William Ellsworth, and at age 17 on October 4, 1960, they were married. Together they had 6 children.

Alzena worked for 30 years on the fish plant in Englee until it’s closure in 1992. She was a friend to many throughout her lifetime- anyone who entered her home was welcomed and treated like family.

In March of 2000, Alzena gave her heart to the Lord and became a very active member of the Salvation Army Church. Though, when her son, Kirby, passed away it affected her tremendously, as she had already lost a son years prior. She remained faithful to her God, although she no longer attended church.

After her husband, Charlie, passed, her health slowly declined until her own passing.

Alzena leaves to mourn, her Children: Terry, Cathy, Rocky (Jose), Kim (Elvis); Grandchildren: Ashley, Brandon (Beth Ann), Ocean (Aaron), Martina; Great-grandchildren: Alexandra, Sophia, Danielle; Brothers: Fred, Shem, and Colin as well as a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and a large circle of friends. She will be forever missed.

She is predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Charles Ellsworth; Sons: Kirby and Danny; Parents: Cecil and Ameta Newman and Sister; Jean Denney.

Visitation to take place from the Salvation Army Church in Englee, NL beginning Saturday, March 9, 2024 and will continue until the funeral on Sunday, March 10, 2024 at 2:00 pm with Major Crocker officiating. Interment to follow.

LAING, ROBENA TAMSEY

September 8, 1943 - February 25, 2024

It is with great sadness that the family of (Robena) Tamsey Laing Announces her passing at Charles Curtis Memorial Hospital on Sunday, February 25th, 2024 at the age of 80 years.

Tamsey was born on September 8th, 1943 to Lambert and Clara Woodward. She spent the majority of her working years doing what she loved in the fishing industry or working in Gerald Woodward’s General Store as a clerk/book-keeper. Tamsey’s other passions included knitting, berry picking, gardening, and various other activities that allowed her to reap the benefits of living off of the land. She loved her community and was a dedicated volunteer her entire life within her church and at all local events.Seeing people return home to Boat Harbour for a visit was one of Tamsey’s greatest joys. Above all else, family ranked the highest on her list of priorities. She was a dedicated and loving sister, wife, mother and grandmother throughout her years. 

She married her lifelong love Curling Laing in June 1964. Together they had 3 dearly beloved children. Left to mourn are Daniel (Debbie) Laing, Charmaine (Irving) Powell, and Angela Laing. She was also blessed with 6 grandchildren whom she treasured dearly. Left to mourn is DJ Noseworthy, Irving Powell Jr, Joshua Laing, Effie Powell, Tracy Laing, Evan Powell. She is also survived by great-grandchild Remi Laing, brother Randy (Sheila) Woodward, sister Donna (Jim) Roberts, step-brother Lloyd (Marjorie) Field and an extended circle of family and friends. 

She is predeceased by parents Lambert and Clara  Woodward, loving husband Curling Laing, sister by heart Marjorie Coates, step-brothers Hedley Field and Clarence Field. 

Visitation at St. Marks Anglican Church will begin Monday evening, February 26th at 7pm. The family service will be held on Tuesday, February 27th at 7PM. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 28th at 2:00 PM with Reverend Art officiating. Burial will follow at Boat Harbour Cemetery.

ALLINGHAM, HORACE

December 21, 1934–February 24, 2024

It’s with great sadness that the family of Horace Allingham announce his passing at Charles Curtis Memorial Hospital on Saturday February 24, 2024 at the age of 89 years.

Horace Allingham was born December 21, 1934 to William and Gladys (Hancock) Allingham. He spent most of his days of his life fishing and working, where he made many friends along the way. He was Married to the love of his life, Hazel Marie Colbourne and they married on January 22, 1958. Together they had 6 children who he loved dearly.

He left to mourn his children: Pamela (Mario), Sharon (Barry), Sheila (Randy), Lynn (Tim), Lois (Morgan), Paul (Blenda). He was also blessed with 11 Grandchildren who he cherished so much; Tammy, Ashley, Barry, Terri, Scott, David, Shandi, Brittany, Kyle and Jade as well as 9 Great-Grandchildren: Devon, Dana, Riley, Max, Nash, Ava, Jake, Emma, and Wesley; his sisters Grace, Triffie (Earnest), Laverne and June (Ralph); Brothers Edgar (Elsie), Stedman and Llewellyn (Thelma). He also leaves behind a large circle of family and friends.

He was pre-deceased by his parents: William and Gladys; wife Hazel and his grandson Dillon; Sisters olive, Drucella and Alma; brothers Basil. Thomas and Rex.

Visitation will take place St. Matthew’s Anglican Church in Cooks Harbour beginning Sunday, February 25, 2024. The family service will take place on Monday February 26, 2024. From 7-8 pm. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday February 27, 2024 at 2 pm with Rev. Arthur Kinsella Officiating.

Cremation to follow with burial to take place at a later date.

FLYNN, SHANE STEPHEN

April 20, 1977 - February 21, 2024

Passed away February 21, 2024 at the age of 46 years. He leaves to mourn his Parents: Josephine and Leonard Clarke; Sisters: Jody (Jamie), Helen (John); Brother: Roger (Dianna); Nephews: Brody, Noah, Walter, and a large number of Aunts, Uncles, Cousins his Grandmother Marie and many many friends. 

Shane is predeceased by his grandfathers: Stephen and Gerald; Grandmother: Margaret; Aunt and second mother: Juanita; and his cousins Andy, Coady and Matthew.

Cremation will take place with the funeral service and burial to be announced at a later date.

COLES, MINNIE

June 8, 1947 - February 20, 2024

It’s with great sadness that the family of Minnie Coles announce her sudden passing at Charles Curtis Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, February 20, 2024.

Minnie (Caines) Coles was born June 8, 1947 to Henry and Mary Elizabeth (Coates) Caines. She married the love of her life, Albert Jacob Coles on April 18th, 1968. Together they had two children, Melvin Coles (Lisa) and Kimberley White (Andy).

Teaching was her passion, and she retired with a full career at the young age of 45. She was very loving and devoted to her family and friends.

Minnie leaves to mourn her children: Melvin (Lisa), Kimberley (Andy). Grandchildren: Alex (Jasmine), Andrea (Ty), and Reese. Great Grandchildren: Beau and Vaughn. Brother and sister in-laws, countless nieces and nephews, as well as a large circle of family and friends.

She is predeceased by her husband Albert Jacob Coles, Parents: Mary Elizabeth and Henry Caines, Siblings: Nathaniel, Dulcie and Melvin Caines.

Cremation will be taking place with the funeral service and burial to be announced at a later date.

TUCKER, DELILAH

May 18, 1928 - February 17, 2024

Passed peacefully away February, 17, 2024 at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital, St. Anthony, Newfoundland.  Delilah Tucker in her 96th year. She leaves to mourn with fond memories her children: Eliza Colbourne, Louise (Lester) Bessey, Robert (Jean), Ricky (Rose), Leonard (Priscilla), Harvey (Dale), Sheila, and Patricia. Grandchildren, Great-Grand Children, and Great-Great-Grand Children.

Delilah was born 18 May 1928 in Ship Cove. At the age of three, in 1932, her mother died, and having been raised by her Grand Parents, she had been heard to say “she never knew a Mother’s Love”. But that in no way deterred her in the outpourings of Love that was bestowed upon the four generations that followed. On Dec 28, 1943 she married Silby Tucker, a union that was to endure for the next 75 plus years. After raising a family of nine children, and when most having left the nest, she worked for many years at the Fish Plant in St. Anthony. A woman of many talents, educated for none.

She is pre-deceased by her husband Silby of 75 years, parents Thomas and Eliza Tucker, siblings: Charles, Francis, Alvin, Alice, Ross, and Lester Guy.  Children: Gordon, Betty, a Baby Boy and Olive. Sons-in-Law Winston Colbourne, Roy Heath and Jack Pittman, and Daughter-in-Law Mary. Grandchildren: Whyman, Robert (Diane, Grand Daughter-in-law), and Jeremy. And Great Grand Child: Christopher Simms.

Visitation to take place from Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home, West Street, St. Anthony on Tuesday, February 20th, 2:00-4:00 pm for Family, and 7:00-9:00 pm Public. Funeral Service to be held on February 21st, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home St. Anthony. In keeping with Delilah’s wishes cremation will take place and internment to follow at a later date at the United Cemetery in Ship Cove.

POWELL, EMMA JOAN

It’s with great sadness that the family of Joan Powell announce her sudden passing at Charles Memorial hospital on Saturday Feb. 17 2024.

Emma Joan (Colbourne) Powell was born on October 1, 1952 to Hayward and Mary (Hussey) Colbourne. She met the love of her life, Donald Powell, and married on May 7th 1977, and together they had 5 children, Bary Colbourne (Gaye), Natasha Sharpe (Anders), Brad Powell (Melanie), Janene Powell (Carey) and Dana Powell (Emily). She spent her life working and raising her family making friends along the way.

She was blessed with 7 Grandchildren Christopher, Cameron, Sarah, Matthew, Ryan, Nikolas and Dylan, and one great grand-daughter Madison. Who she loved dearly.

Joan leaves to mourn her children, grandchildren and great grandchild, Sisters: Lavinia, Pearl, Ann (Bill) and Trudy (Gary); half brother: Heber (Loretta), countless nieces and nephews as well as a large circle of family and friends.

She was predeceased by her husband Donald Powell, parents Hayward and Mary Colbourne and her brother Sherlock Colbourne.

Cremation has already taken place with a burial to take place at a later date.

COLBOURNE, WINSTON WHYMAN

It is with great sadness that the family of Winston Whyman Colbourne announce his passing on Saturday, February 10th of 2024 at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in his 80th year.

Winston Whyman was born on October 9, 1943 to Harvey and Maude(Bartlett) Colbourne of L’Anse Aux Meadows. He was the oldest of 11 Children. He spent most of his life fishing and working, where he made many friends along the way. He met the love of his life, Eliza (Tucker) and they married on December 22, 1963. Together they had three children, Whyman, Irene and Robert. He was also blessed with three grandchildren Jillian, Christopher and Christa, as well as three great-grandsons Liam, Jack and Ben, who he loved dearly.

Winston leaves to mourn, his wife Eliza, daughter Irene (Cliff), granddaughters Jillian (Andrew) and Christa, great-grandsons Liam, Jack and Ben, sisters Emma and Hazel, brothers Goward, Clayton and Lester, mother-in-law, Delilah, as well as a large circle of family and friends.

He was pre-deceased by his parents, Harvey and Maude, sons Whyman and Robert, daughter-in-law Diane, grandson Christopher, brothers Clifford, Wayne and Harvey, sisters Faye and Selma, and father-in-law Selby.

Visitation to take place from the Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Home in St. Anthony beginning on Monday February 12th from 7 to 9 pm with a funeral service at 2pm on Tuesday February 13th from the Bethel Pentecostal Church with Pastor Jeff Elliott officiating. COLBOURNE, ALVIN

June 10, 1958 - January 9, 2024

Alvin was born June 10th, 1958 and was the fourth child of Wesley and Ida Colbourne. Alvin worked as a fisherman, lumberjack, carpenter, and was also the owner and operator of Pinnacei Lodge Outfitters.

He leaves to mourn his Brothers: Garry (Violet), Lorne (Lucinda), Austin, Terry (Belinda), Keith (Lisa); Sisters: Ivy (Guy), Wavey, Rita (Stephen), as well as a large circle of cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Alvin is predeceased by his parents: Wesley and Ida Colbourne; and Brother: Wesley Jr.

Cremation has taken place with the funeral service and burial to be announced later this summer.
