COOMBS, HOWARD

1941-2023

We are saddened to announce the passing of Howard at the John M Gray home on July 4 at the age of 82.

He lived in Plum Point all his life and worked at a garage and as a school bus driver. He was a backhoe operator and dug many water lines on this coast.

He leaves to mourn his wife Joyce, daughters Angela, Jocelyn and Lottie, sons Foch and Sandy, their spouses, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is predeceased by mother Una and son Alan, in-laws Garland and Caroline Samson.

Visitation to take place from the Church of the Advent in Plum Point beginning the evening of Thursday, July 6, 2023 and will continue on Friday, July 7, 2023 with the family service to take place at 8:00 pm. The funeral will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, July 8, 2023 with Rev. Coates officiating. Interment to follow.

COOMBS, STEDMAN

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Stedman Coombs announce his passing on February 18, 2019 in his 84th year. He leaves to mourn with fond and wonderful memories, his loving wife of 63 years, Vivian Coombs; children Irene (Ray), Hiriam (Pam), Melvin (Connie), Rosline, Barry (Ruby), Rick (Belinda), Lorne (Tina) and Leon (Dale); grandchildren Dara, Melvin Jr, Ocean, Terry, Tammy (Phil), Terry, Riley, Jenna, Maxwell, Callie; 11 great-children, sisters Effie, Dorcas and Dulcie; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents John and Leah Coombs, mother-in-law Eva Coombs and father –in-law Lambert Coombs, son Terry, grandchildren Denise, Mason and David, sisters Bernadette White, Emily Applin and brothers Leander, Stewart and Gerald Coombs. A special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Strait of Belle Ilse Health Centre and Charles Curtis Memorial Hospital. Cremation has taken place. Passed peacefully away at the John M. Gray Center on the 5th day of January 2014. Mrs. Joyce Coombs of Plum Point was in her 82nd year. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories Sons Percy Coombs, William Coombs, Clifford Coombs(Leona), Chesley Coombs(Margaret), Daughters Vermeta J. Coombs(Sheila), Matilda J. Coombs(Hiram), Nancy Ann Coombs(Ralph), Elizabeth  House (Dean),Grandsons  Daris G. Coombs(Sheila), Gavin W. Coombs, Bradley Coombs, David Coombs, Curtis R. Diamond, Benjamin Coombs, Granddaughters Medina Genge(Toma), Sandra Coombs, Lisa Coombs, Edna Coombs, Great Grandchildren Cole Coombs, Carla Coombs, Kyus Coombs, Sisters Bertha Payne(Samson), Judy Gibbons(Samson), and Brother Julian Samson as well as a large circle of family and friends. She was predeceased by her Husband George W. Coombs, Mother Sarah Samson(Hoddinott), Fahter Frank Samson, Brothers Garland Samson, Chesley Samson, Sisters Daisy Saunders, Grace Taylor, Alma Samson, Rosie Chambers. Visitation was held at the church of Advent in Plum Point followed by the funeral service at 11:00am on the 9th day of January 2014 with Rev. Harold Harvey officiating. Internment followed in the Anglican Cemetery in Pond Cove. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Siobhan Mauger Funeral Director.

COOMBS, WILFRED W. “BILL”

Reef’s Harbour

July 12, 1964 – Aug. 22, 2013

In the early morning hours of Aug. 22, 2013, following a brief struggle with cancer, Bill was called home by his heavenly father and reunited with his earthy father, Wilfred Coombs. He leaves behind his life-mate Gloria Tucker; mother Ruby Coombs; brother John (Vonnie); father-in-law Harold Tucker Sr.; brothers-in-law Harold G. (Fanny) Tucker and Dean Tucker; nephews Jamie (Shelley), and Boyd (Heidi); and great-nieces Alexis Tucker, Anna Tucker, Alyson Caines and Aria Tucker. Bill also leaves behind a large family of aunts, uncles and cousins and a huge circle of friends. Bill made a big impact on the many health-care professionals who got to know him during his illness and they have joined his circle of friends. He was predeceased by his father Wilfred.
