SMITH, THOMAS

August 7, 1935 - June 26, 2022

Thomas Smith passed peacefully away at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital, St. Anthony at the age of 86 years old, on June 26, 2022, with his family at his side.

He was born in St. Anthony on August 7, 1935, the son of John and Drucella Smith of Raleigh. Thomas married the love of his life, Hilda (nee Taylor) on February 14, 1955. Together they had five children Joyce, Pansy, Terry, Shirley and Peggy.

Thomas spent a number of years working as a equipment operator with Stanley Hodge in St. Anthony. In 1969 he went to work with NL Hydro as a plant operator, 11 years later continued as a fisherman for his remaining career. He lived a good healthy retirement, enjoying moose hunting, tending to his garden, visits from his grandchildren and many trips salmon fishing in Main Brook with very special friends.

He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, his loving wife Hilda, daughters Joyce, Pansy, Peggy, Shirley (Jeff), and son Terry (Linda), brothers Willis, Barton (Virtue), sister Viola (Abiel), 12 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchildren and many extended family and friends.

He is predeceased by his parents, John and Drucella, brothers Jack (Anna), Felix (Joanna), Jerry (Jane), Noah (Laura), sister Elizabeth (Caleb), sister in law Nellie and son in law Gilbert.

SIMMS, THOMAS

July 17, 1944 – January 13, 2020

Thomas Simms was born to Effie (Reid) and Reuben Simms of St. Anthony Bight on July 17, 1944. Tom lived in St. Anthony Bight until he went to Moncton, New Brunswick to take training as a pilot. After completing his training he worked in gander, as well as Goose Bay, returning to St. Anthony in 1976 to work with Grenfell Regional Health Services. He worked there until he retired in 2009. In 1967 Tom married Peggy Budgell of St. Anthony and together they raised two children, Tommy and Tammy. Tom was a kind man and a great friend to all. He enjoyed nature, his gardens, and tinkering with all kinds of engines and could get anything that wasn’t working to work. Tom was a man of great faith and was always faithful to his church. After battling cancer for several years, Tom passed away peacefully on Monday evening, January 13th, 2020 at the age of 75. He leaves to mourn, his wife of nearly 53 years, Peggy; Son, Tom (Sherry); Daughter, Tammy (Dave), as well as his two granddaughters, Amanda and Ashley; Two great-grandsons, Jorden and Jackson. He also leaves to mourn his sister, Bernice (Roy); Brother, Roy (Irene); Sister-in-law, Marie; four brothers-in-law, three sisters-in-law, as well as a large circle of extended family and friends. Tom was predeceased by his parents, Reuben and Effie Simms as well as his brother Bruce. Visitation to take place from Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home in St. Anthony on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 from 3-4 pm and 7-9 pm as well as Thursday, January 16, 2020 from 2-4 pm and 7-8 pm with the family service taking place at 8:00 pm. The funeral will be held from the St. Anthony United Church at 2:00 pm on Friday, January 17, 2020 with Rev. John McGonigle officiating. ROSE, HENRY THOMAS

July 4, 1953 – December 9, 2019

Passed away December 9, 2019 at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony surrounded by loving family at the age of 66 years. Henry grew up in St. Carols where he went to school and played until he moved to St. Anthony as a teen. It was there, fishing with his father that he met the love of his life, Verna in Harbour Deep. In 1973 they were wed and blessed with two children. Shortly after the birth of his second child, he began working at the St. Anthony Airport where he stayed for 40 plus years. Through his work at the airport, he came to know and help many people across the province and abroad. He made a lot of friends, and was a friendly and familiar face to those travelling. In his spare time, he loved fishing, hunting, and loved being in his shed, woodworking. He was a talented handyman and carpenter, he frequently did renovations for his children and made lots of patio furniture and other items. His other passion was his grandchildren. He loved to see them flourish in their talents, whether it be playing guitar and singing, or playing hockey. Henry was a talkative and friendly man, he like to torment and was guaranteed to go visit his two children, Corey and Treena every night as well as send both a daily text message. He is forever loved and mourned by, his wife of 46 years, Verna; Son, Corey (Charmaine); Daughter, Treena (Trent); Mother, Margaret; Brother, Wallace (Edith); 3 Grandchildren, Dilan, Alisha, and Caden; Nieces, Teena (Larr), Nikki (Denise); Nephew, Robin (Marcella) and a large circle of family and friends. Henry was predeceased by his father, Isaac; Grandparents, Ernest and Rita Hill, and Thomas and Elizabeth Rose as well as his Aunts and Uncles. Visitation to take place at Kerry M. LARKIN, THOMAS

passed away on July 7th, 2017 at the age of 72 years. Thomas was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Thomas was a fisherman by occupation and worked at other occupations following the 1992 moratorium. He had a fine sense of humour and an engaging manner, and he could be counted upon to share his ongoing interests in current affairs, at times passionately. He was loved by many and those who knew him will miss his anecdotes, stories, and his enjoyment of life. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, his loving Wife, Myrtle; Children Tammy (James) and Tommy; Step-Daughter Linda (Garfield); grandchildren Stacy, Matthew, Ryan, Madison, Chole; great-grandchildren Kaden, Amie, Katie, and Dante. Brothers Alfred (Maude), Frederick; Sister Christena (Melvin); and a wide circle of nephews, nieces, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Stephen and Jeanetta; Brothers Erastus, Archibald, Ulet; and Sister Emily Decker. COMPTON, JOHN THOMAS

John loved to fish and spending time with his family. Especially his son, daughter and grandchildren. His family was his life. During his life, John was a fisherman and worked many years at the Salt Fish Store. He also framed homes. John was also a member of the Orange Lodge, Pillar of the community and a member of the Salvation Army Englee Corps Men’s Fellowship. Mr. John Thomas Compton of Englee passed away at the Lion’s Manor Nursing Home in Portugal Cove, NL on the 17th day of September 2016 at the age of 74 years. DIAMOND, THOMAS LEANDER

Our Dad, Grandpa, and Uncle: Thomas Diamond was born July 3, 1929. He married Madeline Stevens on December 9, 1953. Together, they had 3 children and raised them in St. Anthony. Anyone who knew him, knows that he was fun-loving, a joker, devoted husband, father, and grandfather. This past week we have learned some stories of the things he had done. We never knew the names of the people he worked with because called them such things as “Old Cow”, “Grassy”, “Pussy Cat”, and another- “Nose.” There are many stories but we don’t have time to recollect them all. Thomas retired in 1991, where he spent his retirement in St. Anthony and made occasional trips to Alberta to visit family. His wife Madeline passed away in November for 2010 and many, many, times he would talk about her. Now they are together again forever. Rest in Peace, Love you. You can shed tears that he is gone or you can smile because he has lived. Smile, open your eyes, love, and go on. Mr. Thomas Diamond of St. Anthony passed peacefully away at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital on the 1st day if April 2016, in his 86th year. He leaves to mourn his Daughters Ivy (Willie) Whalen and Renee (Chris) Thompson, and Son Truman Diamond, Grandchildren Kerilynn (Tim) Truong, and Misty (Vadim) Zisin, grandchildren Oliver and Soleil as well as a large circle of family and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Madeline, Grandson Shane, and his parents Whitfield and Susie. Visitation was held at Kerry M. Fillatres funeral home in St. Anthony after which the funeral service was held at 2:00 pm at the St. Anthony United Church with Rev. Dinesh Gomes officiating. PENNEY, THOMAS

Passed peacefully away at the John M. Gray Center on the 19th January 2015. Mr. Thomas Penney of Cook's Harbour was in his 82nd year. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his children Violet(Garry), Walter(Linda), and Gorden, Grandchildren Vanessa, Jonathon, Jordan(Jessica), Sheila, and Wilson, Great Grandchildren Gabriel and Jada, Sister Rosie, Brother Elam(Margarite), Brother-in-Law Warrick, special friends Gerald Elliott, Wayne Pittman, and Alex Smith as well as a large circle of family and firneds. He was predeceased by his Wife Susie, Sister Hazel, Brother-in-Law John, Parents Albert Edward Penney and Elizabeth Stevens. Visitation was held at the St. Matthews Anglican Church in Cook's Harbour from which the funeral service took place at 2:00pm on Thursday January 22nd, 2015 with Rev'd Fr. Paul Findlay officiating. COATES, THOMAS

Was Born in Eddies Cove East on the 26th day of June in 1931. He moved to Lanse au Claire and there is where he married his wife Agnes. He leaves to mourn a large circle of nieces, nephews, and other family as well as a large circle of friends. He was predeceased by his wife Agnes, his Parents Philip and Susanna, Sisters Amy, Rita, Bessie, Alice, Brothers William, John, Edgar, Philip, Richard, and Reginald. Visitation was held at the St. Andrews Anglican Church in Lanse au Claire from which the funeral service took place at 2:00pm on Wednesday August 13, 2014 with Rev. Norman Cutler. SAMSON, THOMAS GARDNER

Tom was born to Bessie and Peter Samson on July 30th, 1944, on December. 31st, 1965 he married Jessie Parrill. They had one son, Dean. Family was very important to tom, He dearly loved and appreciated each and every one of them. he enjoyed his job as a heavy equipment operator and always felt comfortable and happy machinery. in his spare time he liked to go fishing and hunting, he truly loved the great outdoors.Tom passed away into peace at the Charles s. Curtis Memorial hospital in St. Anthony on the 25th of may, 2014 in his 69th year. left with fond and loving memories of his life are his dear wife of 48 years Jessie, his dean (Michelle) and Granddaughter Kayla; Sisters Barbara, Elsie (Grant) and brother Kevin; Sister in law Bernice; Brothers in law Grenfell (Eliza) and Clyde (Brenda). in his years, Thomas lived to see the passing of his parents Peter and Bessie Samson; his special sister Marina; and brothers Hiram and Conrad. Visitation was held at the Church of the Advent in Plum Point, From Which the Funeral Service was held at 2:00pm on Wednesday May 28th, 2014 with Rev.
