HUSSEY, MARGARET ANN

Ann was Promoted to Glory at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital, St. Anthony on Saturday, July 30, 2022. 

She was born on February 1, 1965 to Sidney and Rita (Earle) Hussey of St. Lunaire–Griquet, NL. 

Ann was a social, loving and kind person who loved life. Whether she was at church worship or lying in her bed at the John Gray Centre, she was always contented with her lot in life.  Ann became a born-again believer on January 20th, 1991.  Ann persevered with a positive attitude despite her deteriorating health. 

Ann is predeceased by her Father, Sidney Hussey; brothers Antoine and David. 

Left with fond and loving memories are, the love of her life, Terry Noble; Mother, Rita (Eric Saunders); Sisters, Pansy Diamond (Clyde), Verna Hussey (Rod Stone), Blanche Pilgrim (Allan), Joy Biles (Albert), Lillian Randell (Austin), Wanda Lynn Pilgrim (Winston), Ruby Hilliard, Michelle Hussey (Brad Murley), Tanya Tucker (Danny); Brothers Roy (Lucy) and Bruce; best friend, Lisa Boyd, 11 nieces and 12 nephews and 32 great nieces and nephews. She will be missed by her church family.

Visitation to be held at the Salvation Army Church in St. Anthony NL, from where the funeral service is to take place at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, August 2nd with Majors Austin and Lillian Randell officiating. Burial will follow the service at the United Cemetery in St. Lunaire-Griquet.

COLBOURNE, FORD ERNEST

August 8, 1950 – February 15, 2019

Ford was born in St. Anthony on August 8th, 1950 to Linda and George Colbourne. He married Rita Roberts on November 17, 1972 and together they raised one child, Todd, who gave them their only Grandchild, Adam. He worked with the town of St/ Anthony for 38 years and enjoyed every minute. He retired in 2014. For was dedicated to his family and loved spending time with his grandson, Adam. He loved spending time at his cabin, the more people that dropped by, the happier he was. He was a friend to everyone. He leaves to mourn with fond memories, his Wife, Rita; Son, Todd (Tracey); Grandson, Adam; Brothers, Wes (Elizabeth), Oscar (Patricia), Alvin (Carol), Derrick (Donna); Sister, Denise (Jim); Sister-in-law, Agnes; Brother-in-law, Melvin Roberts (Irene); Sister-in-law, Ella (Carl), Nellie (Les), Debbie (Ray), and Effie. Ford was predeceased by his parents, George and Linda Colbourne; Brother, Warrick; Brother-in-laws, Willie Roberts, Tobias Simms; Sister-in-laws, Ruby (Calmen) Decker. Visitation was held from Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home in St. Anthony. The funeral was held on Wednesday, February 20th, 2019 at the Salvation Army Church in St. Anthony at 2:00 pm with Captain Rideout officiating. Interment followed. NEWMAN, JULIA GLADYS

Passed away October 24th, 2017 at the age of 90 years. Julia Gladys was born in Great Brehat on January 12, 1927 to William and Jessie Patey. She was one of seven children. At the age of five, she moved to Little Brehat to live with her grandparents, Julia and Joseph Clarke. She finished school at the age of 11 to help take care of her grandparents and two uncles. At the age of 19, Julia married the love of her life Benjamin Newman who was from Great Harbour Deep and together they raised five children. The family lived in Little Brehat until 1959 at which time they resettled to St. Anthony. In addition to raising her family, Julia worked at the fish plant and she also worked in housekeeping. She was a woman of many talents including cooking, baking, knitting and sewing. Together, Julia and Benjamin loved to take part in outdoor activities especially berry picking, snaring rabbits, and trouting. Julia had a strong faith and a love for God and on April 16th, 1995 she was proudly enrolled as a Salvation Army Soldier. She enjoyed all types of church activities, and especially enjoyed the Home League and volunteering at the local Thrift Store. Left with warm and loving memories are her children Ambrose (Peggy), Neil, Patsy (Alphonsus), and Tracey (Lyle), along with 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildrem, and one great-great-grandchild. Julia is predeceased by her loving husband, eldest daughter Jessie, and son-in-law John. Visitation was held from the Salvation Army Citadel in St. Anthony from where the funeral service was held on Friday, October 27th, 2017 at 2:00 pm with Captains David and Melanie Rideout officiating. SAUNDERS, CENITH

On November 17, 1924, Cenith Richards was born to Cyril and Mary Richards. On July 1st, 1947 she married Norman Saunders and together they raised seven children and one grandchild. She also had two children from a previous marriage. She was a faithful soldier of The Salvation Army for more than seventy years which she dearly loved and was quite active until her health failed. Mrs. Cenith Saunders of St. Anthony passed peacefully away at the John M. Gray Center on the 10th day of June 2017, Mrs. Cenith Saunders was in her 92nd year. She leaves to mourn sadly missed and loving memoires her family Sylvia(Tommy), Louis(Betty), Marie(John), Lloyd(Elizabeth), Betty(Boyd), Calvin(Ellen), Edith(Winston), Olga(Larry), Paul(Sharon, Michelle(Dan), a number of Grandchildren, great Grandchildren, and Great Great Grandchildren, one sister Viola Patey including a large circle of relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her Husband Norman, Brothers and Sisters, Grandson, Nephews and Nieces. Visitation was held at the funeral home in St. Anthony followed by the funeral service which took place on Tuesday June 13th, 2017 at the Salvation Army Church in St. Anthony at 2:00pm with Captain Brown officiating. SIMMS, PHOEBE GENEVA

On March 20, 1940, Flossie and George Macey of Red Bay, Labrador became the proud parents of a baby girl they named Phoebe Geneva. At the age of 16 she moved to St. Anthony to work with the Grenfell Mission and later on she went to work with Fishery Products until she retired in 1991. In 1957 Phoebe married Wilson Simms of St. Anthony and together they raised one son and two daughters. Phoebe leaves to mourn with fond memories her son Jerry (Triffie); Daughters Judy and Mandy; Grandchildren Brandi, Lorne, Melissa, Jeremy; Great-grandchildren Tyler, Kyle, Damien, Megan, Zoe, Layla, Anna; Special nieces Eleanor McLean, Beryl Pilgrim; Brothers Hayward (Margaret), Hubert (Annie); Sisters Jane (Nelson), Ivy (Theodore), Hilda (Ian), and her best friend Blanche Strickland as well as a large circle of extended relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her Father George, father Walter Ryan, Mother Flossie, Husband Wilson and her brother Albert. Visitation was held at Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home until the funeral on Monday, June 5th, 2017 at 2:00 PM from the Salvation Army Church in St. Anthony with Captain Brown officiating. Interment followed. STRYDE, ELIZABETH BERTHA

Passed away at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital on November 29, 2016 at the age of 70 years. Elizabeth Bertha Stryde (Nee Hill) was born in Cooks Harbour on March 15, 1946 to proud parents, Gertrude and Ernest Hill. On August 16, 1967 she married the love of her life, Alfred James Stryde. They were blessed with the birth of three sons, Gordon, Darren, and Shawn. Elizabeth was predeceased by Gordon in 1968. Elizabeth and Alf also raised Kathy Tucker for a number of years. It wasn’t money or the finer things in life that contributed to her happiness- it was her family and the large number of young people whose lives she touched while serving in different capacities at her Corps. Elizabeth served her church for many years as a Sunday School Teacher, Y.P.S.M., CCM, Home League Member and Thrift Store Volunteer. She will be missed and remembered by her husband Alfred, sons Darren (Patrina), Shawn (Carol), grandchildren Krista and Nathan, Sisters Mary Jane Rowbottom and Margaret Rose and a large circle of friends. Elizabeth was predeceased by her Son Gordon, Parents Ernest and Gertrude, brothers Joe, Albert, Tom, and Harvey. Visitation was held at Kerry M. Fillatre's Funeral Home in St. Anthony. The Funeral took place from the Salvation Army Citadel in St. Anthony at 2:00 pm on Thursday, December 1, 2016 with Captain Brown officiating. Interment followed. BUDGELL, BESSIE MAE

Passed peacefully away at the John M. Gray Nursing Home in St. Anthony on Sunday, June 19th, 2016 at the age of 97 years. Bessie was born to Walter and Maria Dawe of Ireland Bight on May 2, 1919. As a young adult, Bessie moved to St. Johns and worked with the W.H.Ewings Furriers family for four years. Later, on August 11, 1948 she married Charles Budgell of St. Anthony and raised six children; three boys and three girls. Bessie Loved gardening and had a remarkable knowledge of flower varieties. She also loved to read, knit, and crochet. She leaves to mourn Barry (Muriel), Barbara Tuttle (Wayne), Linda Coffin (Roy), Wallace (Zita), Ada Simms (John), Jeff (Sheila); grandchildren Andrea, Jennifer, Mark, Aaron, Brian, Karl, Matthew, Ashley; great-grandchildren Zachary, Simon, Benjamin, Hannah, Kaylee, Noah, Lana; sisters Dulcie, Hilda, Ethel, brother-in-law Frederick and a large number of family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles who passed on May 25, 2016, her parents Walter and Maria Dawe, and her brother George. Visitation took place at Kerry M. Fillatres Funeral Home in St. Anthony. The funeral service took place at 2:00 pm on Thursday, June 23 at the St. Anthony Salvation Army Citadel with Major Dinzel and Kathleen Baggs officiating, interment followed in the Salvation Army Cemetery. SIMMS, WINSTON ELIAS (DICK)

Passed away at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on June 16, 2016 at the age of 71 years. Winston Elias Simms was born on March 23, 1945 to Raymond and Gertrude Simms. He was one of six children, one of whom was his twin sister Selma. He lived his entire life in St. Anthony Bight, never feeling the draw to move away from his home. Dick is survived by his brother Alwyn (Elsie), sisters Ivy, Phyllis, Joy, Beverly, nieces Melissa, Cavell, Jennifer and nephews Bob, Byron, Raymond, Corey, Brian, Brad, Don, and Neil as well as many great nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by parents Raymond and Gertrude Simms, sister Selma Decker and nieces Roxanne Pilgrim and Trena Decker, brother-in-law’s Gerald Spingle and Gordon Thorne. Visitation was held at the Salvation Army Church in St. Anthony from where the funeral service took place on Monday, June 20th, 2016 at 2:00 with Major Dinzel Baggs officiating. BUDGELL, CHARLES NORMAN

Passed away peacefully at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital On Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at the age of 91 years. He was born to Noah and Priscilla Budgell of St. Anthony on May 24th, 1925. He married the love of his life, Bessie Dawe of Ireland Bight on August 11, 1948. Together they raised a wonderful family of six children, three Boys and three Girls. Following his marriage he moved with his wife to Buchans where he worked in the Buchans Mines. He returned to St. Anthony in 1950 and began his career life working in various positions within the town. Despite his full time employment he found time to be involved in community growth as a volunteer having served on early Recreation Committees, School Boards, and as a Town Counselor. He was the towns first Fire Chief. During his retirement, he filled his time with woodworking, gardening, berry picking, fishing, hunting, and spending countless hours with his family. You will be forever missed and always in our hearts.  Leaves to mourn with a lifetime of loving memories his wife Bessie, Children Barry(Muriel), Barbara Tuttle(Wayne), Linda Coffin(Roy), Wallace(Zita), Ada Simms(John), Jeffrey(Sheila), Grandchildren Andrea, Jennifer, Mark, Aaron, Brian, Karl, Matthew, and Ashley, Great Grandchildren Zachary, Simon, Benjamin, Hannah, Kaylee, Noah, and Lana, Brother Frederick, Sisters-in-Law Dulcie, Hilda, and Ethel and a large circle of family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Noah and Priscilla, Brothers Henry and Bill, and Sisters Debbie and Violet. Visitation was held at the funeral home in St. Anthony after which the funeral service was held at 2:00pm on Saturday May 27, 2016 at the Salvation Army Citadel in St. Anthony with Major Dinzel Baggs officiating. Cremation followed after the funeral service. It is with great sadness that the family of Mr. Ross Eric Grenfell Fillier announce his passing on February 15, 2016 at the John M. Gray Center. Grandchildren Danny (Barb), Chris (Tammy), Julie (Guy), Rochelle (Andy), Cory (Shelley), Deana (Rol), Gina (Brad), Sandy (Ivan), Heather (Trevor), and Kristie, as well as Fourteen Great Grandchildren, and Three Great Great Grandchildren and a large number of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Ross was predeceased by his wife Mary, Sons Wilbourne, Albert Scott, Daughter Bonnie Lynn, Parents Albert and Lavinia Fillier, Brother Chesley and son-in-law Chris.
