PITTMAN, IRENE ISABELLE

passed away peacefully at Curtis Memorial hospital in St. Anthony on May 11, 2017, a few weeks shy of her 78th birthday. She was born on May 30th, 1939 and lived in Bird Cove, NL. She leaves to mourn her beloved husband Primus Pittman, of 61 years, her children Tom (Ciara), Lily (Angus), Nellie (Wally), Theresa (Prim), Prim (Annette), Dennis (Janet), Sharon (David), & Desmond (Tammy), sister Mary (Victor), grandchildren Murray, Kimberley (Shannon), Jeremy (Shelley), Danan, Wesley, Felicia (Dylan), Ashley (Josh), Brandon, Lytora, Colten, Brayden, Garfield, Brock, & Brianna, great grandchildren Cody, Jada, Jorja, Taylor, & Jackson. She was predeceased by her mother Mary Elizabeth Gould, father Thomas Gould, son Martin, grandsons Anson & Josh, great grandson Jay, brothers Maxwell, Pius, Edmund, Tom, Simon, & sister Annie. Visitation took place at Our Lady of Grace Church in Bird Cove, from where the funeral service took place Sunday, May 14, at 11:00 AM. Interment followed in the Bird Cove Roman Catholic Cemetery. COATES, GIDEON

Passed away May 10th, 2017 at the age of 61 years. Gideon married the love of his life, June Sheryl Andrews, on November 28, 1975 and spent 41 years with her. They raised a family together. He loved his family, and his grand¬children were his pride and joy. He loved spoiling them and praising them at every opportunity. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and spending time with his family and friends. He will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew him. He leaves to mourn his loving wife June; 3 children: Cordell, Colleen (Dion), Cindy (Donovan) and 3 grandchildren: Makayla, Cody and William; 7 siblings: Elsie (Chester), Ollie, Lelvie (Joe), Dian (Terence), Fanny, Seymour (Cora) and Elizabeth (Clyde); several aunts & uncles, nieces & nephews, cousins and a large circle of friends. He is predeceased by his parents Lawrence & Martha Elizabeth Coates. McLEAN, EVERTON

Passed away May 5th, 2017 at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital at the age of 75 years. He leaves to mourn, his Wife Evelyn; Children Dalton (Colleen) McLean, Garrison (Manette) McLean, Faith (Jamie) Payne; Grandchildren Everton Jr (Karen) McLean, Garett (Anna) McLean, Brittany McLean, Alex (Amy) McLean, Andrew (Bianca) McLean, Justin Payne, Ryan (Danielle) Payne; Great-Grandchildren Gabrielle McLean, Lincoln McLean, Russell McLean. Adrian McLean, Alexander McLean; Brother Baxter McLean; Sister Pearl (Stewart) Mitchelmore, as well as a wide circle of family and friends. Everton was predeceased by his Parents Leonard and Beatrice McLean as well as his sisters Virtue McLean and Belinda Hughes. COLBOURNE, WILLIS

It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Willis (Bill) Colbourne at the Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on April 14, 2017 in his 83rd year. Willis was born to Frederick and Jane Colbourne in St. Anthony on August 11, 1933. He left school at age 14 to go fishing, which he continued for most of his life until the moratorium in 1992. He married the love of his life, Reta Rose in 1959 and they had one daughter, Veronica. Willis enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, fishing a hunting to the fullest. He leaves to mourn his wife of 58 years, Reta; Daughter Veronica (Rick) McQuinn; Grandsons Darren and Devon McQuinn; Brothers Bruce, Allan, Morgan (Linda); Brother-in-laws Baxter (Sybil) Rose, Thomas (Sylvia) Rose; Sister-in-laws Phoebe and Pearl Hoffman, Pearl Rose, Katherine (Whyman), Phyllis (Clyde) Elliott, Margaret Rose; lots of nieces and nephews as well as a large circle of extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Frederick and Jane Colbourne; Sisters Florence, Irene, Marjorie, Beryl; Brother Edward and his favourite Uncle, Jack Colbourne. Visitation was held at Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home in St. Anthony until the funeral on Monday, April 17th 2017 at 2:00 pm which took place from the St. Anthony United Church with Rev. Gus Pendleton officiating. WYATT, EFFIE JOY

Passed peacefully away in the presence of her loving family on March 14th, 2017, Effie Wyatt (Patey) of St. Anthony at age 74 years. Leaving to mourn with cherished memories are her husband of 49 years, Joseph and her loving boys, Jeffrey (Deann), Gregory (Mario), grandson Scott (Brooke) and her precious great granddaughter Jade, born on March 4th, 2017. She looked so forward to her arrival and lived long enough to see pictures of her. Also leaving with fond memories are her six brothers, Wilbur (Loretta), Eric (Marjorie), Jerry (Doris), Dennis (Goldie), Alvin (Valerie), Larry (Robin) her only living Aunt Blanche Biles and her brother in law Charles (Joanne), as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents Herbert and Edith Patey, mother and father in law, John and Emma Wyatt and her precious nephew Joshua Patey and niece Amanda Swinimer (Patey). Effie’s life revolved around her family, whom she loved and cherished with all of her heart. Her nightly phone calls to her boys and brothers, where she always wanted to know in detail how everyone was doing will surely be missed. Visitation was held at Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home in St. Anthony. The funeral service took place on Saturday, March 18th, 2017 at 2:00 pm from St. Mary’s Anglican Church in St. Anthony with Rev. Katie Flynn officiating. Interment followed. 
 

SAUNDERS, NORMAN GARFIELD

Passed away at the John M Gray Centre in St. Anthony on December 19, 2016 at the age of 90 years. Norman Garfield Saunders was born on June 5, 1926 to Fred and Mary Saunders. On July 1, 1947 he married Cenith Richards and together they raised seven children and one grandchild. Norman worked for the Grenfell Association for forty-one years. He was a faithful soldier of the Salvation Army for more than seventy years and attended the church regularly until two months before his passing. He will be missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Cenith and family; Marie (John), Lloyd (Elizabeth), Betty (Boyd), Calvin (Ellen), Edith (Winston); Olga (Larry), Paul (Sharon), Michele (Dan); step children Sylvia (Tommy) and Louis (Betty). He was also blessed to have an extended family of half-brothers and sisters (Budgells) of Campbelton; two half-sisters Pearl Pilgrim and Mabel Canning of Deer Lake. A number of grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, and great-greatgrandchildren, as well as a large circle of friends. Norman was predeceased by his Father, Mother, his half sisters and brothers. Visitation was held at Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home in St. Anthony until the funeral service on December 23, 2016 at 2:00 pm which was held from the St. Anthony Salvation Army Church with Captain Brown officiating. CLEMENTS, MINNIE

Passed suddenly away on Dec. 19, 2016 Minnie Clements at the Connaigre Peninsula Community Health Centre, Harbour Brenton. She was predeceased by her husband Sidney Cassell and husband Randolph Clements. She leaves to mourn her daughters Joan (Bert) Hopkins and Doreen Cassell (Fred Reid); brother Boyce Winsor; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and her step-children and step-grandchildren and a circle of other relatives and friends. Pastor Ben Brown will conduct the funeral service at Calvary Pentecostal Temple Roddickton on Thursday at 11:00 a.m., Dec. 22, 2016, from where visitation took place..  Interment to follow at Roddickton Pentecostal Cemetery. COMPTON, ALLAN HENRY

Passed away on December 5, 2016 at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital with his family by his side at the age of 87 years. Allan was born on March 25, 1929 to the late Augustus and Maggie (Tucker) Compton. On March 25, 1953, he married Olive Hopkins, together they had seven children; Joan, Robert (Deceased), Yvonne, Bernice, Jean, Clyde, and Lesa as well as their special granddaughter Connie. Allan worked in his younger days in the woods from cutting wood to cook’s helper. In his later years he worked with the Department of Transportation, grading roads and plowing snow until retiring in 1989. He was very well known in all the community, as well as Roddickton and surrounding areas. He leaves to mourn his Wife Olive of 63 years, daughters Joan (Tony), Yvonne (Rudy), Bernice (Edmond), Jean (Harold), Lesa (Fergie), Connie (Jeff), Son Clyde (Deloris), eleven grandchildren, ten greatgrandchildren, three sisters, two brothers, daughter-in-law Sharon Compton, his special homecare worker “Sunbeam”, seven brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law along with many nieces, nephews, and friends. No one was a stranger to “Fadder.” He was predeceased by his son Robert. - “Rock Of Ages, Cleft For Me, Let me hide myself in thee” Visitation was held at the Salvation Army Church in Englee from where the funeral service was held at 2:00 pm on December 8, 2016 with Major Collins officiating. LEWIS, AUGUSTINE PAUL

Passed away on November 6th, 2016 at White Bay Central Health Centre in Roddickton at the age of 65 years. He leaves to cherish memories his wife Myrtle Lewis; Father Harry Lewis; Step Sons Dennis (Tanya) Hancock, Derrick (Kim) Hancock, Darrell (Jackie) Hancock; Step Daughters Debbie (Bruce) Hopkins, Jackie (Dean) Smith; Step Grandchildren Miranda (Danny) Canning, Desiree (Michael) Hancock, Brittany Hancock, Damien Hancock, Madison Hancock, Jacob Hancock, John Flowers, Lily Hancock, Carter Hancock; Brothers Jerry (Loretta) Lewis, Gorden, Brian, Pat (Ratu) Lewis; Sister Mary (Terry) Flynn as well as a large number of nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his Mother, Rose Lewis, and his Brother, Jerome Lewis. Visitation was initially held at the Roddickton Roman Catholic Church then moved to the Conche Roman Catholic Church from where the funeral service was held on Wednesday, November 9th, 2016 at 11:00 am with Fr. NOBLE, DAPHNE (SIMMS)

Passed away September 19, 2016 at the age of 96 years. Daphne Noble was born to Elias and Mary Simms in St. Anthony Bight in 1920. Daphne grew up in St. Anthony Bight. On August 10, 1938 she married Eric Noble. They made their home in Great Brehat, and together they raised eleven children; nine daughters and two sons. Daphne was a quiet woman who enjoyed being a traditional homemaker. She worked with Eric making the fish, and enjoyed booking, baking, knitting, berry picking, and the gardens. She also enjoyed watching soap operas, especially Coronation Street. On Monday, September 19th she passed peacefully away. She is survived by her children, Marie (Lloyd- deceased), Drene (Basil- deceased), Violet (Absalom), Sadie (Robert – deceased), Elsie (Fred), Raymond (Lillian), Alex (Janice), Alma (son Shawn), Mabel (Hebbert), and Bessie (John- deceased). She is also survived by 37 grandchildren, 67 great-grandchildren, and 34 great-great-grandchildren, and her sister-in-law Bertha Noble. She was predeceased by her husband Eric, infant daughter Sadie, five brothers, and four sisters. Visitation was held at Kerry M. Fillatre’s funeral home in St. Anthony with the family service taking place at the St. Anthony United Church from where the funeral service was held on September 22, 2016 with Rev.
