PARSONS, SADIE OLIVE (Nee Powell)

January 1, 1936 - January 30, 2025

It is with great sadness that the family of Sadie Parsons announces her passing at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital , St. John’s, NL on January 30, 2025, at the age of 89.

Sadie was a dedicated member of the United Church Women at St. Anthony United Church and she absolutely treasured her time spent with the Joy Fellowship group. The group members were always an inspiration to her and she looked forward to the time she spent with them. Sadie was an avid knitter and her grandchildren always looked forward to getting their new mittens at Christmas. Everyone will also cherish their quilts made lovingly by Sadie. But above all else, it is Sadie’s love and devotion to her family that should be remembered. She was and will always be a source of inspiration, support, and pride to her children and grandchildren throughout their entire lives. Sadie was innately kind and a tremendous source of strength to all who loved her.

Sadie was predeceased by her parents Albert and Sarah Powell, her husband Jehu Parsons, her daughter Donna Parsons, son-in-law Morey Hillier, brothers Hedley (late Mary); Melvin (Juanita); Alfred (Dorcas); Donald (late Joan); Gordon (Neta); her sisters Beulah (late Robert); .and Lydia (late Mount). Sadie was the last of her siblings

Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of wonderful memories are daughter Joan Pynn, Grand Falls-Windsor; daughter-in-law Karla Loder, St. Anthony; grandchildren Jeremy Pynn (Tammy), Milford, NS; Chelsey Perry (Brett), Calgary, AB; Emily Parsons Hillier (Simon Taylor), St. John’s; Hannah Parsons Hillier (Jasmine Strickland), St. John’s; great grandchildren Madelyn and Grace Pynn and Nate and Nora Perry; special niece Audrey Skaling (Frank), Sussex, NB and a large circle of nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family wishes to express enormous gratitude to Dr. Saroja and the nursing staff at Level One and ICU at Charles S. Curtis Memorial hospital at St. Anthony and to Dr. Taylor at St. Clare’s for their dedicated care. Your kindness made a tremendous difference.

Visitation will take place at Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Home on Friday, February 7th 2025 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. Donation of flowers are graciously accepted as well as donations to the St. Anthony United Church in Sadie’s memory. The funeral service will take place on Saturday. February 8, 2025 at 11:00 am. Interment to follow in the Fishing Point United Cemetery.

PARSONS, RUBY NANCY

April 28, 1957 - January 3, 2020

Passed away January 3, 2019 at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 62. She leaves to cherish memories, her husband, Darby Parsons; Daughter, Jennifer (Philip) Whitt; Son, Corwin (Amanda) Parsons; Sisters, Priscilla (Michael) McGee, Belinda (Kirby) Newman, Angela (Hank) Dean; Brothers, Winston (Judy) Wilcox, Leander Wilcox; as well as four Grandchildren and a large circle of relatives and friends. Visitation was held from the Apostolic Faith Church in Roddickton from where the funeral service was held on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Chris Hewlett officiating. Interment followed. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Alicia Patey, Funeral Director.

PARSONS, RHODA HAZEL (nee Cull)

March 1, 1935 - October 21, 2019

Rhoda Hazel Parsons was born March 1, 1935. To everyone who knew her she was Hazel, to those who held her closest to their hearts she was simply "Mom". Mom's hands were always busy. A lifetime of love and labour were etched into every sinew. They nurtured a family of four and diligently cared for a husband. Mom worked like a Trojan every day, cooked, cleaned, scrubbed, shined and fed whosoever will at her small kitchen table. A creative women by nature, she spent many hours sewing and knitting. She was famous for her quilts, including "the" Christmas Quilt, for which she created her own patterns. Her passion for knitting ensured that many in St. Anthony and beyond had toasty warm hands and feet. Mom was a women with a strong faith, firmly believing the Lord would provide her every need in His time and purpose. Disease may have weakened Mom's physical body but her mind and spirit remained strong and solid. She kept her faith in the One that would see her to her journey's end. On October 21, 2019 at approximately 9:45 am her busy hands became still. Her earthly toil complete "Mom" had entered her eternal rest. Mom will be forever cherished by her children, Phyllis (Ivan), Gail (Mit), Wallace (Maxine), and Penny. Her grandchildren, Sandra, Danielle, Cody, and Jonathan, as well as very special friend Ena Roberts. Hazel was predeceased by her husband Freeman Parsons. Her parents Hayward and Leah Cull. Her brother Augustus and sister Marie. Her in-laws Robert and Beulah, Jehu, Dulcie, and Alfred. Her niece Donna. The funeral service will be held at the Bethel Pentecostal Church in St. Anthony, at 2 pm on Saturday October 26, 2019 with Pastor Jeff Elliott officiating. Visitation will on Thursday October 24th, 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm and Friday October 25th, 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Flowers are greatly appreciated, for those wishing to make a donation in Mom's memory, please do so to the Palliative Care Unit Western Memorial Hospital Corner Brook.

PARSONS, VERA MAY

It is with regret and great sadness that the family of Vera Parsons announce her passing at the age of 90 years. Vera was born in Wesleyville and moved to Griquet at the age of 9 years. She met and married Everett Parsons and together they raised seven children. Vera was a very independent woman whose dedicated her life to caring for other people and dearly loved her children. They were her life’s focus. Vera faced many challenges in her life from losing her father at a very young age, and was a caregiver to many, never complaining and took life as it was handed to her. She lived independently on her own for the past 22 years up to a week before her passing. She leaves to mourn her children; Lloyd (Rhoda), Stella (George), Louise, Bill (Yvonne), Donna (John), Kathy and Chad (Lin); grandchildren Berni (Todd), Marion (Nelson), Brad, Perry (Pam), Todd (Sherry), Billy (D.iane), Kristen (Simon), and Stephen (Michelle); great-grandchildren Gabe, Bailey, Blaine, Gabriel, Isaac, Zachary, Dorian, Mela, Brooklyn, Braylon, and Braxton. The funeral service will take place at All Saints Anglican Church in St. Lunaire-Griquet on Saturday, August 10th at 2:00 pm with Deacon Arthur Kinsella officiating and interment to follow in the Anglican Church Cemetery. Flowers will be graciously accepted or donations may be made to the All Saints Anglican Church Fund. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. PARSONS, DONNA LORETTA

Donna was born in St. Anthony to Sadie and Jehu Parsons. She leaves to mourn her loving partner Karla Loder, her daughters Emily and Hannah and their dad, Morey Hillier. She also leaves her mom Sadie and sister Joan Pynn, niece Chelsea Pynn and nephew Jeremy Pynn and all of the Hillier family. She is predeceased by her father, Jehu Parsons. Donna's life was dedicated to her family and the brightest lights in her life were her daughters. Donna spent her work life with Labrador Grenfell Health and leaves many loyal friends and coworkers in the dental department. She was a dedicated employee and was proud of the work she did there. Hers is a light that went out much too soon but the glow from her life will long shine bright through those who remember her. Visitation was held at Kerry M. Fillatres Funeral Home in St. Anthony while the Funeral Service took place at the St. Anthony United Church with Rev. Dinesh officiating on Friday, January 22, 2016 at 11:00 am. Inurnment followed at the United Cemetery. Funeral Arrangements entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre's Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard Funeral Director.

PARSONS, FREEMAN NICHOLAS

During the early morning hours of Sept 20, 2012, surrounded by his loving family, Freeman Parsons, age 80, passed into the presence of his Lord whom he so faithfully served. Freeman lived most of his life in Goose Cove, a hard working fisherman, he knew the value of a good days work. When the fishery closed in the early nineties he moved both house and home to St. Anthony.  He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and faithful friend. A deep void has been created in the Parsons family due to Freeman's passing. He will be sadly missed by his wife Hazel who devoted herself to caring for him.  They shared a love story that spanned over 55 years.  Even in his final days when disease and pain wrecked his body and mind he still lit up when she entered the room.  His children Phyllis (Ivan) Simms, Gail (Milton) Roberts, Wallace Parsons, Penny Parsons (Brian), grandchildren Sandra, Danielle, Cody will all acutely feel the loss of a wonderful father and grandfather.  He is predeceased by his father Jehu, mother Frances, sisters Myrtle, Dulcie, and Vashti, brother Jehu and daughter-in-law Kim. Freeman's funeral service took place Sept 23rd at Bethel Pentecostal Assembly in St. Anthony. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard, funeral director.

"Going Home. I'm Going Home, there is nothing to hold me here. I've had a glimpse of that heavenly land, praise God I'm going home."
