They moved to Roddickton in the early 1950’s, so his father could work in the woods for a lumber company. At a young age he started working in the woods for Bowater Pulp and Paper as a wood cutter. In 1985 he started a general store in town known as E.G Humby and Sons. This store sadly burned after only 5 years in business, but they relocated to a new location which they ran until 1997. He was always concerned about local jobs and went to great lengths to create jobs in the local area. In retirement he was always around to help his three sons out in any way he could. He enjoyed spending time with his family and good chats with his friends at the coffee shop. In 1960 he married Alma Lillian Harris and they had three sons, Paul, Peter & Perrin.
