NEWMAN, FREDERICK


April 25, 1942 - June 20, 2024

Fredrick was born on April 25th, 1942, to Ben and Gertrude Gillard of Englee, NL. At the age of 2 months his mom died of Tuberculosis (TB) he was Adopted into the Newman family to Cecil and Ameta Newman. This brings such a large number of relatives to Fredrick's family where each and everyone of them are dear to Newman family. He grew up In Englee, Newfoundland and Labrador and remained there for his entire life except for the past month where he was admitted to the hospital in St. Anthony, Newfoundland due to his illness.

At the age of 16 years old Fredrick met the love of his life Alton Newman and they were married on August 31st, 1965 which continued for another wonderful 58 years. Together they had three sons Ransey Newman, Robert Newman, and Travis Newman.

His life was based around the fishing industry also he loved living close to the water and had such an amazing view from his home. He worked in the fish store in Englee, NL for 23 years while fishing part time. After this time, he felt the need to buy is own fishing vessel to support his family and fished full time until he retired in the fall of 1998.

In the fall of 1998 He gave his life back to the Lord and became an active member of the Salvation Army Church in Englee, NL until he could no longer attend due to his illness. Regardless he remained faithful to God while at home with his loving wife before being admitted in the St. Anthony Hospital on May 16th, 2024 where he remained until he went to his heavenly home on June 20th, 2024.

Fredrick Leaves to Mourn his wife of 58 years Alton Newman of Englee, NL; his three sons: Ransey (Sherry) Newman, Robert (Madeline) Newman and Travis (Alva) Newman; Grandchildren: Coutney Newman, Chantel Newman, Calvin Cassell, Jarrett Newman, Colin Newman, and Carmen Newman; 1 Great-Grandchild Memphis Torresan. He also leaves to mourn his siblings: Wilfred Gillard, Dorothy Wells, Carmel Waldron, Ben Gillard, Gregory Gillard, and Joy Ellsworth. Also included in his family is his two stepbrothers: Shem Newman and Colin Newman; two stepsisters: Alzena Ellsworth and Jane Denny who are both deceased; and Sisters-in-law: Velma Simms and Christine Fillier. Fredrick has a large number of family and friends whom he loved dearly.

Visitation will take place from the Salvation Army Church in Englee on Monday, June 24, 2024 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. The funeral will take place on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at 2:00 pm with Major Crocker officiating. Interment to follow.

CARTER, FREDERICK JOHN

April 25,1947 - June 25, 2023

Passed away after a lengthy illness Frederick John Carter of Midland Ontario formerly of St. Anthony at the age of 76 years.

Fred was a gentle soul with a zest for life and a sense of humour like no other, He will be greatly missed.

Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his brother Woodrow(Joan), his brother Melvin(Debbie), and his sister Ellen(Elvis), sister in law Susan Carter. Also left to mourn are his nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews whom he loved dearly.

Predeceased by his parents Eli and Marcella Carter, his brother Marshall, and his sister Irene and her husband Elmore Bemister.

In the words of Fred "my name is Frederick John, I'll take the wheel barrow and dodge on."

Special thanks to The Villa Care Center in Midland for their care and compassion during Freds short stay.

Cremation has taken place with the funeral service to take place from the Salvation Army Citadel in St. Anthony on Monday July 24, 2023 at 11:00am with Majors Anthony Stokes and Beverly Dart-Stokes officiating. Inurnment to follow in the old Salvation Army Cemetery on the hill. All are welcome.

HANCOCK, FREDERICK CLYDE

July 18, 1931 - November 7, 2022

Fred Clyde Hancock was born on July 18th, 1931, the first child of 15 born to Gideon and Grace Hancock. Born into that family were brothers: Willis, Stanley, Frank, Ford, Don, Dennis, Kirby and Bradley. Sisters Winnie, Yvonne, Lillian, Nancy, Ruby, Jean and Barbara. He married the love of his life, Marie Decker, on June 22, 1953, and lived in Roddickton and raised 6 children: Sandra, Debbie, Mark (Morris), Greg, David & Gayle.

He gave his heart to the Lord in 1958 and from then on, he devoted his life to the Lord and his church family. He spent many years assisting as Pastor. Fred worked with the Department of Highways most of his life and retired at the age of 57. Him and Marie enjoyed his retirement years. They built a cabin at Coles Pond and spent many memorable years there until he felt it was too much to maintain. After he sold his home, he moved to the Apostolic Faith cottage which they really enjoyed. His church family was very important to him.

His wife Marie was called to her heavenly home on February 16, 2022. He became very lonely after her passing and his daily wish and prayer was to join her at her heavenly home. He died peacefully surrounded by family on November 7, 2022.

He leaves to cherish memories:

Visitation is being held at the Apostolic Faith Church in Roddickton on Tuesday November 8th for family form 2pm to 4pm and public form 7pm to 9pm, Wednesday for family form 2pm to 4pm and public form 7pm to 9pm. The Celebration of Life Service will be held at form the Church at 2pm on Thursday November 10, 2022 with Pastor Michael Ivnay officiating, burial will follow in the church cemetery.

RANDELL, PASTOR FREDERICK THOMAS

October 28, 1948 – July 19, 2019

Pastor Fred Randell was born to the late Manuel and Lily Randell on October 28, 1948. He had two sisters, his twin Alfreda and his younger sister Celie. Fred married Melina Wilcox on December 29, 1967. To this union was born three children. Robert, Bruce and Barry. Fred was a wonderful husband, father and Grandfather and was loved by all who knew him. As a young lad, Fred was employed at the local Fish Processing Plant at Englee. A carpenter with the School Board and for 19 years he was an Employee with A.A. Decker Ltd. At a young age, Fred gave his life to God and from that time on he was a faithful servant of the Gospel. He entered the ministry and served faithfully as a Pastor for 25 years, after which, he retired and moved back to his hometown of Englee. Fred was well known to all and continued to help in the ministry whenever he could, until his struggle with cancer prohibited him from doing so. On July 19, 2019 Pastor Fred passed peacefully away and took his heavenly flight to the rewards that awaited him. He leaves behind his loving wife Melina, three Sons, Robert (Lisa), Bruce (Ruby) and Barry (Danielle) Sisters Alfreda (Ivan Cassell) Celie (Alwood Parsons Deceased.) Six Grandchildren, four Great Grandchildren and a large circle of relatives and friends. Fred will always be remembered for his beautiful smile and his kind words to all who knew him. Visitation will be at the Apostolic Faith Church, Englee on Sunday from 2-5 P.M and from 7 to 9. P.M. The Funeral services will be held at the Apostolic Faith Church, Englee at 2:00 P.M. On Monday, July 22, 2019. Interment to follow at the Apostolic Faith Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the immediate family.

RANDELL, FREDERICK CHARLES

February 24, 1922 – December 15, 2018

Frederick Charles Randell was born on February 24th, 1922 to Eli and Tryphena in Williamsport. He, along with this brother and three sisters were raised in Williamsport. On October 19th, 1944, Fred married Violet Randell, also of Williamsport, and together they raised three sons. They remained in Williamsport until they resettled to Englee in 1969. Fred and Violet were business people who ran their own business. Fred was also a boat builder and mail carrier. In 1999 Violet passed away and Fred continued on his own, until he took up residence in the John M. Gray Centre. On December 15th, Fred passed peacefully away. He is survived by his sons, Jesse (Gladys), Hedley (Shirley), and Ted (Emma). He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. Visitation was held from the Englee United Church from where the funeral took place on December 18th with Rev. John McGonigle officiating. Interment followed. BUDGELL, FREDERICK

Passed away at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital on Sunday, April 15th, 2017 at the age of 95 years. Fred Budgell lived and worked in St. Anthony all his life. Along with his wife Dora, he raised 10 children and still found time to be deeply involved in his community and church. He was fully devoted to The Salvation Army and served as Corps Sergeant Major for 28 years.  His faith and love for God was an integral part of his life and very evident in his daily living and in how he raised his family.  His convictions ran deep and the Bible, as well as the life and teaching of Jesus as revealed in scripture was his measurement for judging right from wrong. This left little room for grey areas in his thinking and approach to life. Fred was anything but a passive citizen, engaging through the years in the life of his community by serving in a number of capacities, including Chairman of the First Co-operative Credit Society (Co-op) of St. Anthony, formed the first Fisherman’s Union in St. Anthony and served as Secretary-treasurer, St. Anthony Interfaith Home Board, Town Council and School Board. A strong work ethic and unwavering spirit are hallmarks of his character. His full dedication to duty and determination to provide for his family was apparent in his working life as a fisherman, carpenter, boat builder, and chef. Fred, a true servant of God and soldier of The Salvation Army, was Promoted to Glory on Easter Sunday, Resurrection Day, an appropriate exclamation mark at the conclusion of a life lived well to the glory of God.  Left with warm and loving memories are his children, Roland (Marion), Velma (David), John (Judith), Priscilla (Godfrey), Deborah (Wilhelmus), Lester (Donna), Raymond (Deborah), Leonard (Joyce), Ernest (Valma), Wade (Linda), 28 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren. Visitation was held at Kerry M. Fillatre's Funeral Home in St. Anthony until the Funeral at 2:00 pm at the Salvation Army with Captain Brown officiating. Interment followed. RICHARDS, FREDERICK

Frederick Richards (Sr.) was born on July 4th, 1917 in St. Carol’s to Abraham and Maryann (Colbourne). He was one of six children. On February 24th, 1942 he married Keziah Saunders and together they raised five children and one grandchild. He spent most of his life fishing in and around St. Carol’s. He loved tending to his garden, picking berries and other outdoor activities but his greatest love was his family. Frederick leaves to mourn sons: Roy (Christine), Gordon (Margaret); daughters: Shirley (Willis), Faye (Hedley), Judy (Harrison); 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; one sister in law Elizabeth Dorcas; many other friends and family. He was pre-deceased by Wife Keziah; parents Abraham and Maryann; Twin brother James; brother Harry (Jessie); sisters Grace (Lewis), Martha (Thomas) and Emma (Walter).  Visitation was held at St. Paul's Anglican Church in St. Carols, from which the funeral service  took place at 2:00pm on Saturday, June 21st, with Rev. Mark Wilkoff officiating. burial followed the service in the community cemetery. Funeral Arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. CULL, FREDERICK JAMES

Passed peacefully away on the 6th day of February 2013 at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital. Mr. Frederick Cull of Great Brehat was in his 73 year. He leaves to mourn his of 54 years Victoria, Sons Elijah(Lucinda); David(Isabella); Daughter Jackie(Lloyd); Step-Daughter Nancy(Todd); Grandchildren Joanna(Joseph); Danielle; Mark(Joy); Susan(Corey); Sherry; Devon(Sabrina); Sheldon(Robbi-lynn); and Victoria; Great-Grandson Micheal Cull; Step-Grandchildren David; Lesley; Amy; Kira; Daniel; Brothers Roy(Louise); Eric(Leone); Everett(Violet) Wilfred(Ann); Sisters Elizabeth; Mary(Hazen)as well as a large number of family and friends. He was predeceased by his Father William Henry; Mother Eunice; and Brother-in-Law Loomis Penney. Visitation was held at the funeral home in St. Anthony followed by the Funeral service at 11:00 am on the 9 day of February 2013 with Rev. Stephanie McClellan.
