COMPTON, MARY HELLEN

Mary Hellen Compton (nee Colbourne) of Roddickton passed away October 7, 2024, age 74, at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony surrounded by family.

Mary was a lifelong member of the John Wesley United Church of Roddickton.  She was an avid reader and loved to knit, quilt and cross stitch.  She took great pride in her work as Conche Post Mistress and always had a pot of soup and fresh bread baking when one of her boys came home.  Her happiest times were spent visiting and laughing with her sisters and friends.

Mary will be dearly missed by her loving husband of 56 years Garfield Compton; sons Tom (Stephanie), Peter (Elizabeth), and Perry (Rebecca); sister Mabel (Norman); sisters-in-law Betty Colbourne and Patricia Colbourne; brothers in law Leighton Patey and Norman Tiller; grandchildren Joshua, Reagan, Sable and Anson; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

She was predeceased by her parents Thomas and Castalena Colbourne; brothers Ernest and Willie; sisters Edna and Bernice and parents in law Albert and Velma Compton.

Friends may come to celebrate Mary’s life October 26, 2024 at 2pm from the John Wesley United Church Roddickton.

COMPTON, CLUNEY DALTON

January 10, 1932 - March 7, 2022

It is with great sadness the family of Cluney Dalton Compton announce his passing on March 7, 2022 at Charles S. Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony, NL. At the age of 90 years old, Cluney was a man of God and faithful to the end.

Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are: wife Emma of 67 years; Children: Garry (Delores), Ross (Marilyn), Patsy, Rick (Debbie), Boyd, Elaine (Ron), Deanna (Dale), Danny (Angie); Siblings: Joy Billard and Miriam Fillier; Grandchildren: Candace, Nolan, Joey, Russell, Travis, Aaron, Trevor, Terri, Jaylin, Jonathan, Donna, Danielle and Dylan; Great-grandchildren: Liam and Brady; Special friends Anne Randell and Mae Curlew.

Cluney spent most of his adult life as a refrigeration engineer at the fish plant in Englee, NL. He was a man of many skills which included carpentry, plumbing, electrical and mechanics. There was not a tool he did not have and spent hours doing volunteer work for his family, friends and neighbours. He had unwavered dedication to his wife and family. He was committed to providing for them until the very end. His kindness, patience and quiet disposition will be remembered by all who knew him.

The family would like to thank everyone who has helped celebrate and remember Cluney’s life. A special thanks to the hospital staff who took care of Cluney in his last days who he spoke so highly of.
In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to the Janeway in Cluney’s memory.

Visitation by the public will be held Wednesday March 9, 2922 at the Faith Pentecostal Church in Englee from 6:30-8:30pm. A private funeral service will be held on Thursday March 10, 2022 at 2:00pm at the Faith Pentecostal Church in Englee, NL with Pastor Paddock officiating. COMPTON, ELWYN

August 3, 1938 – May 6, 2019

Elwyn, was born on August 3rd, 1938 to Mark and Evangeline (Pilgrim) Compton of St. Lunaire. He met and married Beatrice (Rose) of Great Brehat on February 16th, 1962. Together, they raised four children, three sons and one daughter. He loved life and loved to spend it with his family and friends. He was well respected in his community, he’d do anything for anyone. He was also known for his sense of humour, you didn’t know what he was going to say, but whatever he said, it was sure to make you laugh. He was also faithful to his church and most of all his Lord and Saviour whom he loved and served for many years. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him. He leaves to mourn with a lifetime of memories, his wife Beatrice (Rose) Compton; Children, Pascoe (Trudy), Peter (Angela), Andrew, Prudi; Granddaughter Allison; Sisters, Lucy (Everett) Earle; Brothers, Harvey (Lizzie), Ralph (Evelyn), as well as a circle of extended family, friends, and his church family. Elwyn was predeceased by his Parents, Mark and Evangeline Compton; Brother Freeman; Sister Winnie Ings; Half Brother Jabez; Half Sisters Carrie Curlew, and Jessie Simms. Visitation was held from the Pentecostal Faith Tabernacle in St. Lunaire-Griquet from where the Homegoing Service took place on Thursday, May 9th, 2019 at 2:00pm with Pastor Harnum officiating. COMPTON, OLIVE ADELAIDE ANETTA (nee HOPKINS)

January 1, 1934 - February 20, 2019

It is with great sadness that the Family of Olive Adelaide Anetta Compton nee Hopkins, announces her passing with her family by her side at Western Memorial Hospital on Feb 20, 2019, at the age of 85. Born on Jan 1st 1934 to the late Tammer and Jonas Hopkins of Englee. On March 25, 1953 she married Allan Compton. Olive will be remembered for her love of gardening. Her favourite pastime was going for a evening ride around town. She was a life long member of the Salvation Army Corps and Home League of Roddickton and Englee. Most of all she loved talking to her children daily to see how they are doing. She loved her Family very, very much. Her life will be forever cherished by her children Joan (Tony), Yvonne, Bernice (Edmund), Jean (Harold), Clyde (Babe), Lesa (Fergie), Connie (Jeff) ; Daughter in-law Sharon; 14 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren as well as numerous family, dear friends and her very Special Friend, Rudy. She is predeceased by her loving husband, Allan and son, Robert. Special thanks to her friends and staff at the Dear Lake Manor over the past 2 years. The Family would like to Thank the many Doctors, especially Dr. Ahmed and Dr. Fudge and staff from all the floors and ICU and Palliative Care at Western Memorial Hospital who attended to our Mother. Visitation will take place at Salvation Army Corps in Englee on Feb 22, 2019 at 7 pm. Funeral Services will take place on Feb. 23, 2019 at 11 am. COMPTON, JOHN THOMAS

John loved to fish and spending time with his family. Especially his son, daughter and grandchildren. His family was his life. During his life, John was a fisherman and worked many years at the Salt Fish Store. He also framed homes. John was also a member of the Orange Lodge, Pillar of the community and a member of the Salvation Army Englee Corps Men’s Fellowship. Mr. John Thomas Compton of Englee passed away at the Lion’s Manor Nursing Home in Portugal Cove, NL on the 17th day of September 2016 at the age of 74 years. HE leaves to mourn with fond and loving memoires his Daughter Kim (Christopher) Martel of Sudbury, ON; Son Jamie(Sherry) of Paradise, NL; Grandchildren Samantha(Sudbury), Sabrina(Sudbury), Brandon(King’s Point), Rebecca(Springdale), Kyle(Paradise); Great Grandchildren Carter, Drayden, Roman of Sudbury, ON; Mia, and Cooper of King’s Point, Brothers Seymore(Miriam) of Englee; Roland(Englee); Francis(Stella) of Englee; Lloyd(Englee); Dave(Kathy) of Cape Brenton; George(Cheryl) of Cape Brenton; and Allan(Angela) of Englee; Sisters Evelyn Harklewood(Dayton, Ohio); Mable(Joe) Callahan of St. John’s; and Mary(Frank) Spence of Nova Scotia as well as a large circle of relatives and friends. HE was predeceased by his parents Archibald and Minnie Compton. Passed peacefully away at the John M. Gray Center on the 13th day of March 2016. Mr. Samuel Compton of Roddickton was in his 84th year. Passed peacefully away at the John M. Gray Center on the 2nd day of February 2016, Mrs. Esther Compton of Roddickton was in her 89th year. She leaves to mourn with loving memories her husband Noah Compton- St. Anthony, NL, Sons Elamore Reid – Roddickton, NL and Kevin(Debbie)- Roddickton, NL; Daughter Vivian Compton – Edmonton, AB; Her Grandchildren Allison, Travis, Mason, Cadenz, and Stephen, her Great-Grandchildren Aleyna, Ashlynn, Emmett, Jacob and Jesse as well as a large circle of family and friends. COMPTON, VELMA JANE

Passed away Peacefully on January 16, 2016 at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony. Velma was born in Bear Cove, White Bay on September 6th, 1924 to William and Hilda Hollett. She moved to Englee at an early age where she worked at John Reeve, General Store. She later married Albert Compton on October 3rd, 1946. Together they raised six Children; four sons and two daughters. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her Sons Garfield (Mary) Compton (Roddickton), Woodrow (Marilyn) Compton (Spaniards Bay), Dorman (Patricia) Compton (Englee), Leaton (Carolyn) Compton (Deer Lake); Daughters Magretta (Frank) Pilgrim (Roddickton) and Brenda (Gary) Randell (Englee); Sister Rowena Hollett (Gary Reid) (Englee); Brothers Maxwell (Deliah) Hollett (Bay Verte) and George (Sarah) Hollett (New Harbour). She was predeceased by her Husband, Albert Compton; Mother Hilda Hollett; Father William Hollett; and Brother Garfield Hollett. Visitation was held in the Apostolic Faith Church in Englee from where the funeral took place on Wednesday, January 20th, 2016 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Burton officiating. Passes away into the presence of the Lord on the 6th of April 2013 at the Western Memorial Health Center in Corner Brook, Mrs. Albertha Bessie Compton of Roddickton in her 91st year. left behind with a life time of cherished ​memories are her sons Freeman (Elizabeth) Compton of Bide Arm NL, Murdock Compton of Elliston NL, Woodrow Compton of Corner Brook NL, Melvin (Cenith) Compton or Roddickton NL, her Daughters Gertie (Melvin) Pilgrim of Cambridge NS, Melina (Francis) Pollard of Stephenville NL, Joy (Jim) Jenkins of Irishtown NL, and Juanita Compton of Cox's Cove NL, her Brothers Kenneth Fillier of Roddickton NL, and Jerry (Gloria) Fillier of Dryden ONT, sisters Alma Pilgrim of Main Brook NL, Sylvia Hewlett Of Springdale NL, Violet (Harvey) Wilcox of Roddickton NL, and Ella Andrews of La Scie NL, as well as 46 grandchildren, 27 Great-Grandchildren, 28 Great-great-Grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. The visitation was held at the Apostolic Faith Church in Roddickton, from which the funeral service was held at 2:00pm on the 9th of April with Rev. Rene S. Passed away at the John M. Gray Center on the 14th of dec. 2012 at the age of 72 years, Mr. Edward Thomas Compton of St. Lunaire-Griquet.
