COLBOURNE, ANDREW ARTHUR

With his family close beside him, Andrew Arthur Colbourne, 79, of St. Anthony, NL, passed peacefully away on February 26, 2025 at Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony, NL.

The sixth of eight children, Andrew was born on November 16, 1945 to Samuel and Hester Colbourne. After courting for three years, he married the love of his life Juanita on October 10, 1967. Together they had and raised four children: Angela, Carmen, Travis and Carla.

Andrew loved the outdoors - fishing, hunting, gathering fire wood, berry picking and tending to the vegetable gardens. His pleasure in these activities was enhanced when shared with members of his family. Andrew spent his life as a fisherman, first with his older brother George in Labrador and then over the years he was employed on many types of vessels, in various positions and with numerous crews. He was a faithful member of his church. He enjoyed all aspects of his church life, especially singing favourite hymns and choruses. Andrew easily made friends with those he came in contact with, enjoyed chatting, and sharing his knowledge and experiences.

Andrew leaves to mourn: his wife Juanita of 57 years; four children - Angela (Harvey), Carmen (Winston), Travis (Lisa) and Carla (Maurice); grandchildren - Bradley (Heather), Scott, Jordan (Jessica), Rebecca, Eric, Patrick, Jessie, Jayda-Marie, Lily, Maggie and great grandchildren- Liam, Logan, Allie; siblings Julie, Marie (Woodrow), Donald (Brenda); in laws - Hazel, Leah (Rex), Ruth (Donald), Charles (Elizabeth), Sue, Fern (Sterling), Donald (Angela), Phyllis (Tim), Angela (Wade) as well as a large circle of nieces and nephews. He will be missed by all those he considered friends and his neighbours on the point.

Andrew is predeceased by his parents, siblings - George, Edward, Ethel and Jane, and in-laws - Linda and Ross.

Andrew’s celebration of life will be held at the Bethel Pentecostal Church, St. Anthony, NL on Sunday, March 2, 2025 at 2 pm. Burial will follow at the Pentecostal Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Bethel Pentecostal Church From 7-9 on Friday February 28th and 2-4pm and 7-8 pm on March 1st with the family service from 8-9pm.

Andrew’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and doctors of Curtis Memorial Hospital and to the nurses and staff of the Postville Community Clinic for their superb care, kindness, and compassion.

PILGRIM, ERIC (DICK)

March 9, 1950 - January 2, 2025

It is with great sadness that the family of Eric (Dick) Pilgrim announce his passing on January 2, 2025 at the John M Gray Center in St. Anthony, NL at the age of 74 years.

Eric (Dick) loved to do things together with his wife, Winnie, especially during Christmas and birthdays. He also had a love for the great outdoors, fishing, and playing hockey. He was a lovely husband to Winnie, and father to his children: Toby and Tina.

One of the greatest things in his life was when he found the Lord and became a faithful member of the Bethel Pentecostal Church with his wife, Winnie.

Eric and Winnie did everything side by side up until they both began to struggle with dementia, then they both moved to the John M. Gray long term care home to spend time together again. Even in their illness they still showed their love for each other with Eric in particular doting on Winnie all the same.

He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his Wife of 23 years: Winnie; Son: Toby (Jody); Daughter: Tina; Sisters: Betty Pilgrim, Millicent (Millie); Brother: Albert (Marjorie), Murdock, Leonard (Janette), Fred (Carol); Sisters-in-law: Margaret, Bertha, Violet (Calvin) Johnson, Karen, Maysie (Primus) Mitchelmore, Joanne; Brothers-in-law: Harrison Hedderson, Roy Taylor, David Taylor, Adolphus Andrews, as well as a large circle of family and friends.

Due to inclement weather tentative visitations are scheduled for Sunday, January 5th, and Monday January 6th from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm, weather permitting. The funeral service will take place on Tuesday, January 7, 2024 at 2:00 PM from the Bethel Pentecostal Church in St. Anthony with Major Anthony Stokes and Major Beverly Dart-Stokes officiating. RICHARDS, MARJORIE

November 15, 1955 - December 21, 2023

In loving memory of our mother, Marjorie Richards, who passed away on December 21, 2023 surrounded by her family.  Marjorie was the devoted wife of Harvey Richards and loving mother of Dwayne (Marsha), Deon (Chrissy) and Michelle (Cody).  She was the most wonderful Nanny to Brendan, Aiden, Jonah, Brayden and McKayla.   

Our mother was a kind, caring and giving person who always put the needs of her family before her own.  She was a strong woman who faced every challenge in her life with courage and dignity.  Her kindness was a source of inspiration to us all and she will be deeply missed by the many people whose lives she touched.  Our mother was a woman of strong faith and she instilled in us the importance of family, hard work and doing what is right.  She was a true role model who we will always look up to.  We will never be able to fill the space left behind by her.

Marjorie is pre-deceased by three of her brothers (Dennis, Ralph, Cecil) and one sister (May).  She is survived by her husband, children and siblings: Hubert (Beryl), Ivy (Wallace), Telsie (Leyton), Emma, Leona (John), Douglas.

Visitation to take place from the Bethel Pentecostal Church in St. Anthony on Thursday, December 28, 2023 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will take place on Friday, December 29, 2023 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Jeff Elliott officiating. Interment to follow. BYRNE, CLYDE JOSEPH

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Clyde Byrne announce the end of his battle at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on December 9, 2023 at the age of 59.

He leaves to mourn his loving children: Angela, Michael (Marlynn); Grandchildren: Jaxon and Hunter; Mother: Gertrude (Ike Caines) Byrne; Brothers: Tony Rose), Bryan (Janice), Robert (Terri Lynn), Gerry (Elizabeth), Dale (Cheryl); Sisters: Madonna, Annie (Charles), Sadie; and Trudy, the mother of his children. Clyde also had a friend he often confided in and who would come visit when he was attending appointments in St. Johns. You would often hear her talk about her sweets she mailed him.

He is predeceased by his father: Edward Byrne; Brothers: Ronald and Donald; Sister Philomena; Niece and Nephew: Trudy and Kenny.

Clyde was heavily committed to St. Anthony seafood he has been an employee since 1980 and has worked with many people over the years.

A huge thank you from the children goes out to Bonnie at the chemo unit. He always talked about how nice she was as well as Elizabeth who attended a couple trips to the cancer center with him when his kids were unable, and Janice and Bryan who took him in last year when it was suggested he not live alone any longer.

TWYNE, BLANCHE (Nee Moores)

December 2, 1948 - August 26, 2023

Blanche Was born on December 2, 1948 in Forteau, Labrador to the parents of the late Thomas and Martha Moores.

After completing high school, she moved to Grandfalls where she obtained her certificate as an LPN. After nursing in several outport villages in Labrador, she moved to St Anthony in 1970, it was there where she met George Twyne the love of her life.

She was then blessed with two beautiful children Colinda and Lenny, whom she loved unconditionally. Blanche devoted her life to her career, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and to many many more. To them she was their loving aunt B.

Her respect for nature was passed along to all through countless adventures. Her smile, her laugh, her love for life will continue on forever with her countless surviving family, friends and those whose lives she touched .

Blanche leaves to mourn with a lifetime of memories, Her children: Colinda (Warren), Lenny (Lorie); Her grandchildren: Rikkie, David, Rikita; and her darling great grandchildren: Peyton and Drayden; Brother: Richmond'; Sister: Thelma (Hubert), as well as a large circle of nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.

She was pre deceased by her late husband: George Twyne; her parents: Martha and Thomas Moores; her brother: Harry Moores; Her parents in law Herbert and Cinderella Twyne; her sister in laws: Judy Moores, Alma Francis Twyne, Elsie Moores; Brothers in law: Barry Newell, Robert Small, Stafford Cooper, Alonzo Twyne, as well as many other extended family and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at 2:00 PM from the Bethel Pentecostal Church in St. Anthony with Pastor Jeff Elliott officiating. Interment to follow in the United Cemetery.

PILGRIM, GUY VALENCE

In the early morning of December 8, 2020, at Curtis Memorial Hospital with his family at his side, Guy at the age of 77, passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Savior who he loved and served faithfully from a young age. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend. He will be forever missed and always in our hearts. Guy grew up in Little Brehat and from a young age had the responsibility of the household after his mom passed away when he was only 12. From that, grew a love of cooking. After he grew up and left home, he went to college to complete a cooking trade. Guy worked in a variety of places with his trade, from the Newfoundland Railway to Grenfell Regional Health Services until his retirement in 2006, then went back to work at sea which he dearly loved. Guy met and married the love of his life, Joyce in 1969 and raised 2 boys in a loving home. He is forever remembered and loved by, devoted wife, Joyce; sons: Darin (Kristen) and Devin (Andrea); grandchildren: Zachary, Simon, Erica and Kate; brother, Melvin; sister, Jessie (Leonard) and a large circle of nieces, nephews, family and friends. September 5, 1961 - November 20, 2020

Darlene passed away peacefully at Curtis Memorial Hospital on Friday, November 20th, 2020 at 1:45 am surrounded by loved ones. Darlene was born September 5th, 1961 to Stella and William Young of Rocky Harbour. On August 12th, 1983 she married Murdock Pilgrim and then had three beautiful children. Over the years Darlene spent her time raising her three children, baking bread and knitting stockings. She leaves to mourn her husband of 37 years, Murdock; her son, Curtis; her daughter, Miranda (James); grandchildren, Lily and Bronson; sisters, Wanda, Dale (Milo) and Pearl (Keith) and many nieces and nephews. She is pre-deceased by her parents, William and Stella Young; parents-in-law, John Wesley and Clara Elizabeth Pilgrim; son, Wesley Byron Pilgrim; brother, John Young and many more brother-in-laws and sister-in laws. ROBERTS, ENA MAE

September 9th, 1950 - November 6th 2019

Ena was born on September 9th, 1950 to Harvey & Blanche Simms. She was born in St. Anthony at Curtis Memorial Hospital. She was the 5th in the line of 11 children; 5 sisters and s brothers. Ena met her one true love, Calvin, when she was 18 and they were married 2 years later. She worked at the local fish plant until the children came along and then she quit and decided to pursue her passion; Children! She started babysitting and there were times when she cared for up to 9 children plus her own kids. She had 4 children, Glenda Glen Ivan & Andrew. She finished babysitting shortly after Calvin passed away and then done a few different things such as sewing with Grenfell, homecare and finished off working at the school's cafeteria. Everywhere she went, she was loved by everyone and met new friends. She loved sewing, knitting and making homemade quilts for all her children. She spent many late nights with Glenda and Shirley putting puzzles together and playing cards. She spent as much time as she could with her 5 grandchildren as they were her pride and joy; Laura, Abby, Logan, Lacee & Colt. Her wish was that Calvin had been alive to enjoy them as well. Her belief in God was how she lived her life. She was a Christian her entire life and lived according to God's law. On Wednesday, November 6th she went praising and rejoicing as the Angels welcomed her home. PARSONS, RHODA HAZEL (nee Cull)

March 1, 1935 - October 21, 2019

Rhoda Hazel Parsons was born March 1, 1935. To everyone who knew her she was Hazel, to those who held her closest to their hearts she was simply "Mom". Mom's hands were always busy. A lifetime of love and labour were etched into every sinew. They nurtured a family of four and diligently cared for a husband. Mom worked like a Trojan every day, cooked, cleaned, scrubbed, shined and fed whosoever will at her small kitchen table. A creative women by nature, she spent many hours sewing and knitting. She was famous for her quilts, including "the" Christmas Quilt, for which she created her own patterns. Her passion for knitting ensured that many in St. Anthony and beyond had toasty warm hands and feet. Mom was a women with a strong faith, firmly believing the Lord would provide her every need in His time and purpose. Disease may have weakened Mom's physical body but her mind and spirit remained strong and solid. She kept her faith in the One that would see her to her journey's end. On October 21, 2019 at approximately 9:45 am her busy hands became still. Her earthly toil complete "Mom" had entered her eternal rest. Mom will be forever cherished by her children, Phyllis (Ivan), Gail (Mit), Wallace (Maxine), and Penny. Her grandchildren, Sandra, Danielle, Cody, and Jonathan, as well as very special friend Ena Roberts. Hazel was predeceased by her husband Freeman Parsons. Her parents Hayward and Leah Cull. Her brother Augustus and sister Marie. Her in-laws Robert and Beulah, Jehu, Dulcie, and Alfred. Her niece Donna. ANDREWS, JUANITA MARIE

July 22, 1945 – October 12, 2019

Juanita Marie Andrews was born in Ship Cove on July 22, 1945 to Robert and Ethel Taylor. She was the oldest of 11 children. She met and later married Adolphus Andrews on October 14, 1963. Together while living in Ship Cove they raised two children, one daughter, Glenda and one son; Christopher. Juanita loved helping her Husband with getting their wood for the winter, going berry picking together, as well as helping with the potato garden. She loved the outdoors. She really enjoyed doing family things together, especially during Christmas and Birthdays. She was a lovely housekeeper, wife, and mother. The greatest love of Juanita's life was when she found the Lord and became a faithful and dedicated member of her church with her husband Adolphus Andrews. She raised her children in a loving and Christian household. She leaves to mourn, her Husband, Adolphus Andrews; Daughter, Glenda (Tom); Son, Christopher (Alice); Grandchildren, Robert Hedderson & Jennifer Ward; Brothers, Roy & David; Sisters, Winnie (Eric), Violet (Calvin), Karen (Cecil), Maysie (Primus), Joanne; as well as 5 nephews, 2 great nephews, and 2 nieces, and a large circle of family and friends.
