BENNETT, WALTER

It is with great sadness that the family of Walter Bennett announce his passing on July 26, 2023 at the John M. Gray Center in St. Anthony - at the age of 92. He passed peacefully with his family by his side. Walter was born in Greens Harbour, NL August 30, 1930 to parents Raymond and Elizabeth Bennett. After losing his mother at 9 years of age, he helped raise 2 brothers. He met his wife, Nellie and they married on October 1950 and moved to Main Brook. Together they raised 7 Children. He was a loving husband and father. Like his father and their fathers before them, he was a skilled blacksmith and worked with Bowaters for many years. After blacksmith work was no longer needed, he became a mechanic and started his own business with his wife Nellie by his side. He spent his retirement berry picking, beach combing, gardening, and collecting recyclables to raise money for the Janeway Hospital on his pedal bike; but his greatest pleasure was always making sure his wife was well taken care of. To celebrate his memory he leaves behind his children: Judy (Ambrose), Peggy, Bryan (Janice) Jean (Edward), Dianne (Carl), Paula (Edward), Perry (Cathy), - 18 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren and a large circle of loved ones that were touched by his wonderful life.
