ANDERSON, DOROTHY EMMA

May 11, 1936 – November 30, 2018

Passed peacefully away surrounded by her loving family on November 30th at the age of 82. Dorothy Emma Anderson (nee Decker) was born in Lower Woods near Cook’s Harbour on May 11, 1936 to Garland and Dorcas Decker (nee Downer). She was one of nine children. On August 9, 1956 she married Gower Anderson of L’Anse Aux Meadows and together they raised six children and one grandchild. Dorothy opened the first grocery store in L’Anse Aux Meadows in 1956 which she operated for 30 years. Among her many accomplishments was her desire for education, so in 1992 she went back to school and completed her high school diploma. From Tupperware representative to volunteering with Parks Canada as a Viking, she showed her love for meeting new people. She spent countless hours berry picking and caring for her flower garden from which she lovingly shared her flowers with everyone. Her cabin, friends, and family were very dear to her heart. Her infectious smile was one of her greatest traits for which she will always be remembered. Dorothy leaves to mourn her daughters Bernice (George), Bonnie, Colleen (Eric); sons Gerald (Norma), Kevin (Donna), Kirby (Lisa); grandchildren Kristopher (Amanda), Tara, Kathryn (Eric), Elizabeth, Kyle and Meghan; sisters Myrtle, Bessie (Seymour); brothers-in-law Dorman (Rose), Maxwell (Gladys); sister-in-law Juanita Decker as well as a large circle of extended family and friends.  She was predeceased by her parents Garland and Dorcas; brothers Reginald, Maxwell, Harold, Douglas & Lloyd; sister Margaret; sisters-in-law Ivy, Deborah, Frances & Helen; brothers-in-law Wilfred, Ross, Alfred & Job. Thank you to all the staff at the John M Gray Center for the incredible care and support they provided during her time at the home. Visitation will be held at the Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home from 2-4 and 7-9 on Saturday, December 1st. Flowers graciously accepted or donations can be made in her memory to a charity of one’s choice. Funeral service will take place 1:30 pm Sunday, December 2nd at St. Mary’s Anglican Church with Rev. Katie Taylor-Flynn officiating. Interment to follow at the cemetery in L’Anse aux Meadows. HEDDERSON, ETHEL (Nee HILL)

May 29, 1931 to November 27, 2018

Mother was born in St. Anthony on May 29th, 1931, to Jacob and Phoebe Hill of Gunner's Cove. She was one of 11 children. On October 29th, 1948 she married Walter George Hedderson of Spillard's Cove. Together they raised 6 children. As a young woman, Ethel worked with Lundrigans as a cook, when they were putting the roads through the area. At the same time, she took in boarders from Hydro and Newfoundland Telephone, as well as teachers. Many of these people considered her as, and called her “Mother,” and many are still a part of her family. She also worked at Fishery Products and cooked at St. Anthony Interfaith Home. Mother loved being in the outdoors. She worked side by side with her husband cutting wood, making hay, salting and drying fish, planting her gardens, berry picking and attending to the livestock. For many years now, attending church was a huge part of her life. Her family and her church were near and dear to her heart. She leaves to mourn her Daughters, Nina (Bob), Grace (Don), and Marie (Dennis); Sons, Clayton (Judy), Todd (Lorna) and John (Jane); 12 Grandchildren; 16 Great Grandchildren and 3 Great, Great Grandchildren; Sisters, Louise (Fred) and Doris (Joe); Brothers, Art (Violet) and Abe (Selma); Special Friend Jenny Taylor; Brothers-in-law, Carl Hillier, Bill Coish; Sisters-in-law, Marie Hill and Faye Hill as well as a large circle of extended family and friends. Ethel was predeceased by her Husband Walter; Sisters, Gertie, Sybil, Mae and Vie; Brothers, Frank and Clayton; . In lieu of flowers, Ethel asked that any donations be made to the Memorial Fund of Central United Church. Donations can be dropped off at the church or mailed to PO Box 1, St Lunaire-Griquet, NL A0K 2X0. Visitation was held from the Central United Church on Quripon Branch on Wednesday, November 29th, 2018 and Thursday November 30th, 2018 with the funeral taking place on Friday, November 30th, 2018 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Passed away into peace on the 23rd of November, 2018, Mr. Andrew E. Loder of St. Anthony Newfoundland (originally of Harbour Deep) in his 86th year. Left to mourn are Andrews nephew Eddy Cassell, Eddies spouse Nicole and their children Amy and Jonah, sisters Marie Hiscock, Ida Ropson, Ursula Loder, Annie Compton, Marjorie Cassell (Paul), brothers Gerald Loder, Freeman Loder, as well as many Nieces, Nephews and Friends. Andrew was predeceased by his parents Frederick and Delilah Loder; Sister Stella Ellsworth; Brothers in law, Roland Ellsworth, Eliol Hiscock, Richard Ropson, Norman Compton, and George Cassell. Passed peacefully away in the presence of her loving family on November 20, 2018 at the age of 81 years. Predeceased by her husband Wallace, baby daughter, parents Uriah and Levinia Cull, and brother Wallace. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are her daughter Shirley (Kevin), son Ronnie (Bonita), daughter Shelley (Paul), Precious grandchildren Sheryl (Darren), Kevin, Steven (Anna), Sara (Chris), Curtis (Megan), and Brooke. Great Grandchildren Parker, Preston and Claire. Also her very, very special niece Nadine (Kiera and Rileigh). Sister Pearl, brothers Ronald (Joyce), Norman (Margaret), Pearce (Pauline), Carl (Lillian), Sister in Laws Marie, Doris (Wilson), Jessie, Ella, Neta and Clara.

Passed away November 14th, 2018 from the White Bay Central Health Centre in Roddickton at the age of 83 years. He leaves to cherish memories, his Sons, Scott (Gail), Roydon (Erin); Daughters, Sadie, Sandra (Barry), Sheila, Bessie (Gordon), Bernice (Neil), Bonetta (Grant); Sisters, Evangeline, Velma, Violet (Ron); Brother, Bob (Classie); 14 Grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Ivan was predeceased by his wife of over 60 years, Fannie Gillard. Visitation was held from the Apostolic Faith Church in Englee from where the funeral service was held on Sunday, November 18th, 2018 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Michael Ivany officiating. EARLE, FRANK SPENCER

April 19, 1939 – November 13, 2018

Passed away on November 13th, 2018 from Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 79 years. Frank Spencer Earle was born on April 18th, 1939 to Alice and William Earle. He was the baby of the family and loved by all. On March 6, 1962 he married Mary Saunders who was the love of his life and his constant companion. Together they raised six children. He was proud to build his own home and provide for his family in employment such as Bus Driver, Construction Workers, Hydro Diesel Operator, and Maintenance Equipment Operator for the town of St. Lunaire-Griquet. Above all else his favourite career was fishing with his sons. Frank was a man of honesty and integrity who loved chatting and having a laugh. His greatest joy was spending time having a meal with his family, especially when it included his grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. Frank was a man of faith who loved and served the Lord and who left a Christian heritage for his family to follow. Frank leaves to mourn with a lifetime of memories, his Wife, Mary Earle; Sons, Danny (Linda), Junior (Maxine), Scott (Lori); Daughters, Loni (Keon), Faye (Mark), Diane (Robert); Sisters, Marsha Pilgrim, Rita Saunders, Joyce Patey; 13 Grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and a large number of other relatives and friends. Frank was predeceased by his Parents, Alice and William Earle; Granddaughter Charli; Brothers, Charles, Harvey, Augustus; Sisters, Martha, Agnes, and Blanche. CAINES, LOUIS

It’s with great sadness we announce the passing of Louis Caines. Born March 22, 1958 passed away peacefully at the Health Science Centre on Nov 11, 2018. He leaves to mourn his loving and dedicated wife Jane; Daughters Jilda (Abraham) and Paula. His pride and joy granddaughter Mia; Sisters, Dorcas, Elizabeth (George), Mary Ann (Edmund), Levinia, Myrtle (Wayde); Brother, Walter (Maria); Brother and sister in laws, Terence (Lucy), Troy (Trudy), Regina (Larry), Trudy (Lyndon), Anne (Garfield); as well as all of his nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who were very special to him. Louis was predeased by his parents Garfield and Kezia, in laws Leslie and Hilda Chambers, brother in laws Kerry Fillatre and Churchill Mitchelmore. He will be missed forever! HUMBY, MARY LAVENIA

October 19, 1935 - November 7, 2018

On November 7th, 2018, Lavenia Humby (Levie) passed peacefully into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, whom she loved and served. She was committed to her faith, loved God and his word, and attended church regularly. Levie was born in Griquet Newfoundland, where she married Henry Humby and raised her family. Levy is remembered as a soft-spoken, kind-hearted person. She is dearly loved and will be greatly missed. Levie leaves to mourn her sons Raymond (Bessie), Robert (Gina), Michael (Sheila), Daughters Blanche and Pearl, as well as 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and close friends. Levie was predeceased by her parents John and Rhoda Pilgrim, husband Henry George Humby, son Lawrence Humby, grandson Jim Hillier, brothers George, Chesley, Gordon and Allen as well as sisters Pearl, Rita, Ruby, Olive and Lucy. The homegoing service was held at 2 p.m. on November 11th, 2018 from the Calvary Tabernacle in Griquet Newfoundland with Pastor Bill Harnum officiating. CARROLL, LORETTA (LAURIE) MARY

July 6, 1941 - November 7, 2018

Loretta (Laura) Carroll, born in Conche to Patrick and Mary Ellen Byrne. Laura moved to Fortune Arm where she married William Carroll. Together they had ten children. Later in life, they uprooted again and moved to Alcock’s Point in Griquet. Laura worked at the fish plant for many years then later she went fishing with her husband. Laura was a strong-willed woman who not only took care of her own, but everyone else –whether it was making them bread or knitting them socks. She was blessed with 24 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren that she loved dearly. Leaving to mourn sons; John (Wanda), Louis (Daphne), Mike (Belinda), Patrick (Tonya) and Anthony, daughters; Annie (David), Mary Ellen (Leaton), Sadie (Bud), and Marie (Keith); brother William Byrne (Effie); 24 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her husband, William Carroll, daughter, Mary Ellen, brothers; John, Patrick, Joseph, Edward, Charlie, Francis, Thomas, and sister Gertie. Funeral mass took place at 1:00PM on Saturday, November 10th, 2018 at St. Monica’s Church, Griquet, NL, officiated by Father George.
