Mother was born in St. Anthony on May 29th, 1931, to Jacob and Phoebe Hill of Gunner's Cove. She was one of 11 children. On October 29th, 1948 she married Walter George Hedderson of Spillard's Cove. Together they raised 6 children. As a young woman, Ethel worked with Lundrigans as a cook, when they were putting the roads through the area. At the same time, she took in boarders from Hydro and Newfoundland Telephone, as well as teachers. Many of these people considered her as, and called her “Mother,” and many are still a part of her family. She also worked at Fishery Products and cooked at St. Anthony Interfaith Home. Mother loved being in the outdoors. She worked side by side with her husband cutting wood, making hay, salting and drying fish, planting her gardens, berry picking and attending to the livestock. For many years now, attending church was a huge part of her life. Her family and her church were near and dear to her heart. She leaves to mourn her Daughters, Nina (Bob), Grace (Don), and Marie (Dennis); Sons, Clayton (Judy), Todd (Lorna) and John (Jane); 12 Grandchildren; 16 Great Grandchildren and 3 Great, Great Grandchildren; Sisters, Louise (Fred) and Doris (Joe); Brothers, Art (Violet) and Abe (Selma); Special Friend Jenny Taylor; Brothers-in-law, Carl Hillier, Bill Coish; Sisters-in-law, Marie Hill and Faye Hill as well as a large circle of extended family and friends. Ethel was predeceased by her Husband Walter; Sisters, Gertie, Sybil, Mae and Vie; Brothers, Frank and Clayton; . In lieu of flowers, Ethel asked that any donations be made to the Memorial Fund of Central United Church. Donations can be dropped off at the church or mailed to PO Box 1, St Lunaire-Griquet, NL A0K 2X0. Visitation was held from the Central United Church on Quripon Branch on Wednesday, November 29th, 2018 and Thursday November 30th, 2018 with the funeral taking place on Friday, November 30th, 2018 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Gus Pendelton officiating. Interment to follow. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Alicia Patey, Funeral Director.
