RANDELL, NORMAN HEDLEY

January 9,1934 - January 18, 2025

Passed peacefully away at the Health Science Centre in St. John’s surrounded by his family members.

Proceeded by his parents, Lucy and Mark Randell; His wife, Dora Randell , His sons : Graham, Bedford, and Roger, Sisters: Stella Compton, Cassie Weir, Brothers: Darius (Roy) Randell, Alfred Tucker, Grandson: Jason Noonan

Norman grew up in Williamsport White Bay and later lived in Englee and Roddickton and lived the remainder of his life in St. John’s. He was a carpenter by trade, and built many houses and buildings throughout his lifetime. He worked in the Lumber Camp he was also a fisherman and worked in the Woods . He was a store owner who very generously open up his store in the early morning for customers whether they had money or not. He enjoyed singing hymns and playing the mouth organ. He enjoyed moose hunting right up in his late eighties. He was very spiritual and his greatest love was reading the Bible and reciting Bible verses. He loved having family prayers together.

Leaving to mourn his children; Glenna , Mark(Marie), Charia (Pierre), Lucy(Roger), Marcel, Grandchildren; Dawn(Corey), Jocelyn, Charlene(Jamie), Peter , Roger(Jaz), Kaleigh, Jordan , Also brother Wilbert Randell(Margret) and Sterling Randell(Jackie), Sister in law: Etta Mae (Eugene),, Annie May and Bessie, Brother in Law: Lee(Loretta), John, Lloyd, Several Great and Great Great Children and numerous amount of Nieces and Nephews., Special nephew Don Randell.

Visitations will be held 1 pm to 5pm on Friday 24th, 2025 at the Bide Arm Apostolic Faith Church, The funeral Service will be held from the church at 10:30 am on Saturday 25th 2025.

Internment to follow at the Apostolic cemetery in Roddickton

JACOBS, CLARICE

Clarice Elva Jacobs was born Nov. 2, 1934 on Horse Islands, NL to George & Helen (Rideout) Compton.  She was one of 5 children in the family.  At the age of 16 she and the family moved to Roddickton.  On June 27, 1953 she married Donald Jacobs and together they raised a family of 5 and made their lifelong home in Roddickton.  Clarice spent most of her life as a hardworking homemaker in every aspect. 

Later in life she acquired employment at the local crab plant – for which she was very proud and grateful.  She was deeply devoted to God and her church.  She was a devoted Sunday School teacher for a number of years and left a great impact on her students.  She was one of the early members of the Ladies’ Charity Group and remained a member for many years.  She enjoyed the fellowship & socializing with other ladies. 

She enjoyed knitting, sewing, and embroidery – especially quilt blocks – aiming for nothing less than perfection in her work.

Clarice also loved the great outdoors: cook-ups, berry picking, trouting.  She could spend hours casting out her line – whether she caught a trout or not.

She loved her children, grandchildren & great grandchildren dearly.  She passed peacefully away at Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on Nov. 9th, 2024.  She leaves to mourn her passing - son:  Clyde (Karen);  daughters: Wavey (Wilfred);  Sharon (Allan);  Lori. 

Grandchildren:  Lorinda, Lindy, Diana, Kelly, Michael, Melanie, Olise, Nneka, Emeka.

Great-grandchildren: Sophie, Meredith, Emelia, Diego, Rylan, Hadley, Liam, Mia, Oscar & Cassian.

Predeceased by: husband Donald, baby son: George, and grandson: Robert.  Her memory will live on!

Visitation is being held at the Apostolic Faith Church in Roddickton NL Beginning Wednesday, November 12th and continuing through to the funeral service at 11am on Thursday November 13th with Pastor Michael Ivany officiating. Burial will follow the service in the Church Community Cemetery.

FILLIER, DAPHNE

It is with great sadness and broken hearts we announce the passing of Daphne Jude (Reid) Fillier. Who passed peacefully away at Charles Curtis Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family on August 25, 2024 at the age of 77 years. Daphne was a devoted wife, loving mother, sister, friend, grandmother and great grandmother. She treasured and embraced every moment with her family and took great pride in her role as Nan. Her days were filled with fresh air, fishing, gardening, and quiet times at the cabin. Predeceased by her loving husband Oliver, her parents Eli and Loretta May Reid and her sister Linda Penney. Left with fond and loving memories Daughters; Jackie (Sterling) and Jody (Brendan) Sons; Steve (Janice), Buck (June), Simon (Jennifer), and Angus (Stephanie) Cherished grandchildren; Mandy (Tyrone), Ashley (Owen), Samantha(Karisa), Chelsea, Tanner (Sarah), Bryden, Logan, Riley, Charlotte and Jager. Many loving brothers and sisters; Melvin (Peggy) Reid, Ford (Donna) Reid, Doyle (Irene) Reid, Guy (Nancy) Reid, Phyllis (Wayne) Lodge, Frank (Debbie) Reid, Doreen (Wilson) Osmond, Eugene (Debbie) Reid, Edna (David) Manuel, Dean Reid. As well as one special great grandson Oliver.

The family would like to express a special thanks to family and friends for all their love and support. And the amazing nurses at Charles Curtis Memorial for their kind words and loving care during her final days.

Visitation will be held at the Pentecostal Church in Roddickton on the 27th of August form 7 to 9pm. the funeral service will be held at 2pm on Wednesday august 28th followed by burial in the community cemetery.

DECKER, CHRISTOPHER ROBERT

                Christopher Robert Decker was born in St. Anthony, N.L on November 17, 1941 to Alan and Leah (Simms) Decker.

                He was raised in Roddickton, N.L, along with his brothers, Eli and Melvin, surrounded by numerous family and friends.

                After finishing Grade 11 in Roddickton, Chris left home at 17 to complete his Grade 12 at Prince Of Whales College in St. John’s, N.L. After Grade 12 he went on to Memorial University to complete an Arts degree before heading to Pine Hill University in Nova Scotia. At Pine Hill he graduated with A Masters of Divinity.

                He met Patricia Roberts in 1965 and married June 27, 1967. They went on to have two children, Lynn and John.

                Chris wore many career hats over the years. United Church Minister to Boat Building. Owned Logging companies to clothing stores. However, his passion was politics. After being involved in Municipal politics for many years, he made the move to Provincial politics. In 1984 he was elected as a Liberal member to serve what was then, The Straits, White Bay North. After a lengthy career serving his great district and province as MHA, and Minister in several portfolios, he retired from the Public Sector in 1999 to lead a more private life.

After a very brief retirement he began working again as a consultant and Author in which he wrote and published three novels.

Of all the careers and titles he has held, his favorite was Grandfather. He lived to spent time with his four grandchildren, Alexandra, Bradley, Christopher and Eddie, and his favorite quote was; “If I knew grandchildren were so much fun, I would have had them first.”

                Chris, along with his wife Pat spent their retirement years between Roddickton, Little Bay Islands and Florida, where he was always surrounded by family and friends, and enjoyed life to the fullest.

                After battling Cancer for over three years he passed away peacefully early Saturday morning, August 8th, 2015. He was predeceased by his parents, Alan and Leah, his brother Eli, and his parents in law, Joe and Daisy Roberts.

The family will be holding a “Celebration of Life” Service at 2 pm, Wednesday, August 12th, 2015 at John Wesley United Church with a burial of his ashes at a later date.

 In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate a donation made to John Wesley United Church in Roddickton, N.L 

DECKER, DONALD MELVIN

Passed peacefully away at his home in Roddickton on the 31st day of January 2014. Mr. Donald Decker was in his 63rd year. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife of nearly forty years Violet, Sons Brian and Conrad and his Daughter Beverly(Darryl), two Grandchildren Bethani and Jake, six Sisters and one Brother, his Mother-in-Law, five Sisters-in-Law, and three Brothers-in-law, special cousin and friend Melvin Decker, two special friends Ben and Edgar as well as many other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents and one Brother. Cremation had taken place with visitation at the United Church in Roddickton from which the memorial service was held at 11:00am on 5th day of February 2014 with Reverend John McGonigle officiating. A private interment will be set at a later date. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes Ltd., St. Anthony and Roddickton, Siobhan Mauger Funeral Director.

WEIR, GARLAND WILSON

Passed away into peaceful rest at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital in St. Johns on the 14th of October2013 after a struggle with illness, Mr. Garland Wilson Weir of Roddickton in his 67th year. Garland leaves behind with a lifetime of loving memories his wife of 37 years Patricia, his son David (Annie-Mae), Daughter Helga (Scott Parsons), grandson Jordan Weir, Granddaughter Amber Weir, Four sisters and One Brother. The Visitation was held at the Calvary Pentecostal Temple in Roddickton, from which the funeral service took place at 2:00pm on the Saturday October 19, 2013 with pastor G. B. Pinksen officiating. Burial followed the funeral service in the Roddickton Pentecostal cemetery. Funeral Arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatres Funeral Home Siobhan Mauger Funeral Director.

Passed peacefully away at the Health Science Center on the 19th day of July 2013. Mrs. Veronica Dempsey of Roddickton was in her 75th year. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her children Elizabeth(Rene), Peter Jr. , John, Margaret, Theresa, Cecilia(Mark), Timothy, eighteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren, sister-in-laws Amelia & Ellen Ann as well as a large circle of family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Peter.  Visitation was held at the Roman Catholic Church in Roddickton from which the funeral mass was held on the 24th day of July 2013 with Fr. Vitus officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery in Roddickton. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard Funeral Director

Passed peacefully away at White Bay Central Health Centre in Roddickton on July 21, 2013. Mr. Dorman Pilgrim of Roddickton was in his 91st year. He leaves to mourn with fond & loving memories son Frank (Magretta), daughter Joan (George), daughter-in-law Dulcie, nine Grandchildren, and 13 Great Grandchildren as well as a large circle of other family and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Nellie and son Donald. Visitation was held at Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral home in Roddickton, followed by funeral service took place at 2:00pm at the United Church in Roddickton with Major's Austin & Lillian Randell officiating.  Interment followed in the Salvation Army Cemetery.
