PILGRIM, HEZEKIAH ABSOLOM

November 23, 1942 - December 29, 2024

It is with heavy heats that the family of Hezekiah Absolom Pilgrim announce his passing on December 29, 2024 at the age of 82. Hezekiah (Kye) passed away peacefully at Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony.

Kye, as he was known to everyone, loved to spend his time outside. Doing anything from trouting, berry picking or just fiddling around. But his favorite past time was his garden, which he tended to with pride.

Kye will forever be remembered and missed by anyone who ever had the pleasure of meeting him.

Leaving to mourn with fond memories are his sisters: Gladys, Betty, Karen, Glenda (Nath), June (Willie), Wendy (Brent); his brothers: Tobias and Eugene; special Uncle: Ronald (Harriet); special Aunt: Bessie, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews and extended family.

Hezekiah is predeceased by his parents: Jonathon and Annie; brother: Ivan; sister: Goldie; brothers in law: James, Ford; and sister-in-law: Robin.

The family at this time would like to extend their most sincere appreciation to the staff at Curtis Memorial Hospital for their compassion during their time of need.

Visitation will take place at the Salvation Army Citadel on St. Anthony on Wednesday, January 1st, 2025 from 2-4 and 7-9pm. The funeral service will take place on Thursday, January 2, 2025 at 11am with Major Stokes officiating. Cremation will follow the service with inurnment to take place at a later date.

TAYLOR, CLAYTON BOYCE

July 20, 1960 - August 1, 2023

Boyce was born on July 20, 1960 at St. Anthony to Thomas and Louise Taylor. He was blessed with two beautiful daughters, Melissa and Melodie, and a grandson, Asher, whom he adored to the depths of his soul.

On Tuesday, August 1, 2023, Boyce peacefully passed away from this life to the next.

He leaves to mourn his daughters: Melissa, Melodie (Lance Householder); Grandson: Asher as well as his siblings: Mae (Eric), Willis (Leah), Gaye (Rodney), Irene (Willie), Wayne (Clara), Rex (Josephine), Dale, (Tommy), and a large number of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

He is predeceased by his parents, and sister Lydia. He will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew him.

Cremation has taken place, a Service of Tribute will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at 10:30 am from the Salvation Army Citadel in St. Anthony with Pastors Jeff and Charity Butler officiating. Interment to follow.

PILGRIM, WILLIE

July 17, 1949 - January 12, 2023

Willie Pilgrim was born July 17th ,1949 in St. Anthony to Audrey Cull and Tobias Pilgrim. At the age of 5, he moved to St Anthony Bight with his grandmother and grandfather, Florence and Wesley Pilgrim, which was where he spent the remainder of his childhood. Willie married Linda on July 19th 1974 and they had four children that filled his days when they were young and his heart with 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Willie and Linda moved to Fort McMurray where they lived for 15 years. He was fond of his time in Fort McMurray, where his previous years of hard work and being a jack of all trades were greatly rewarded. They returned to the Corner Brook area upon his retirement, where he made some great friends and it warmed his heart to be nearer his daughter and granddaughter. Always a humble and patient man, he never needed anyone to tend to him, only in his very final days. He died peacefully at home on January 12th, 2023.

He leaves to morn his wife Linda, three sons Leon, Corey (Cristina), Brad (Laurie) and his baby girl Kayla. His six grandchildren Laura-Lee, Jade, Michelle, Joel, Shelby and Addison and four great grandchildren. Mother-in law Pearl. His brothers Boyd (Elsie), Elvis (Belinda), Joseph, Daniel, Sister Janet and Special Uncle Ronald (Harriet) and sister-in-law Alice (Boyce) Also left to mourn are many loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Predeceased by his father Tobias, mother Audrey and father-in-law Floyd.

PATEY, WALLACE CLYDE

June 10, 1933 - December 28, 2022

Clyde Patey was born on June 10, 1933 at St. Anthony Bight, NL. He passed away December 28, 2022.

Through his life he held several different jobs, mostly in Montreal. Upon retirement he returned back to his roots.

Clyde was a person who enjoyed the outdoor, whether it was fishing at St. Carol’s Pond or riding his bike long distances with great determination.

He will be remembered for his vibrant personality and smile.

He leaves to mourn, his Sister: Greta Mozeleski; Special Niece: Cynthia Simms (David); Niece: Greta Stephenson (John); Nephew: Leighton Patey (Bernice), as well as other extended family and friends.

Clyde is predeceased by his Parents: Beulah and Richard Patey; Brother: Vaze Patey; Sisters: Stella Patey and Leah Gunn.

CANNING, JEAN

January 29, 1935 - December 17, 2022

It is with a heavy heart that the family of the late Jean Canning announce her passing on December 17, 2022 at the age of 87 at the Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony surrounded by her loving family.

Jean was born to Stella and Sidney Pilgrim on January 29, 1935 at St. Anthony, NL. She started teaching in 1952 in Norris Arm South. In 1957 she went teaching in Great Brehat where she met her husband, Job, and they married on March 1, 1960. They moved to St. Anthony in 1966 where they raised their two children. She enjoyed knitting and socializing with her friends at Shirley’s Haven. She will be sadly missed by all.

She leaves to mourn her Daughters: Eileen (Mike) Pilgrim, Sandra (Lorne) Pilgrim; Grandchildren: Jamie (Jennifer), Michael (Kendell), Robyn (Matthew), Marshall (Brittney), Wilson (Janelle), Michelle (Steph); Great-grandchildren: Amber (Randy), Kaiden, Kalum, Mia, Braden, Seth, Wren, Kevin; Great-great-grandchild: Olivia; Sister-in-law: Bernette Pilgrim; Special Niece, Eliza Pittman; Special Nephews: David (Cindy), Maurice, Brian (Yvonne), as well as many other nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. She will be lovingly and sadly missed by all who knew her.

Jean is predeceased by her Parents: Sidney and Stella Pilgrim; Husband: Job; Daughter: Cavell; Sister: Joan Simms; Brother: Wayne Pilgrim; Brother-in-law: Reginald Simms.

PILGRIM, VELMA BERNICE (Nee Tucker)

October 25, 1944 - June 8, 2022

Today we honor the life of our dear wife, mother and grandmother. She was a truly amazing woman whom we loved and cherished.

Bernice was born in Ship Cove on October 25, 1944, the oldest child of Annie and William Tucker. She lived with her parents and two younger sisters until she was 16 and then left to work with the Grenfell Mission and attend school in St. Anthony.

While working in St. Anthony she met her life-long partner and future husband, Guy, The two were inseparable and did almost everything together. They were married in 1966 and had on child together.

Bernice loved her flowers and was often seen outside attending her flower beds or in the greenhouse. She also very much enjoyed going to the cabin, berry picking, knitting, and spending quality time with family and friends.

She dedicated her life to her family and making sure they were supported in whatever they did and that they never felt anything other than loved.

Left to always remember and mourn are husband, Guy; Daughter, Trudy; Son-in-law, Keith; Grandchildren, Bradley and Jenna; Sisters, Sandra, Mamie and a circle of extended family and friends.

After her passing, cremation took place in St. Johns. A funeral service took place from the St. Anthony Bight United Church on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at 11:00 am with Rev. John McGonigle officiating. PATEY, SCOTT DARRYL

December 4, 1967 - April 29, 2022

Scott Darryl Patey passed away suddenly on April 29 at the age of 54.

Raised In St. Anthony Bight by parents Eric and Mae Patey alongside his 5 siblings. Scott loved the outdoors and had a deep passion for fishing, which his family can say he never passed a licensed river without stopping the vehicle and in his words " I'm gonna have a try here now". He was a carpenter by trade and over the course of time worked many jobs but most recently was a mail truck driver for Canada Post and for the last 8 years was a member of the St. Anthony Fire Department.

In 1990 he met and fell in love with his soul mate and partner of 33 years Bev Letto. Together they had two beautiful children, Patrick and Kelly. In 2020 they were blessed with their first grand child Lincoln and in 2021 they double blessed with their second grandchild, Emma and third grandchild, Logan. They were his jewels and they loved their “pop pop”. Family and friends meant so much to him and he always had a kind word to say about everyone.

He leaves to mourn with broken hearts and cherished memories his soul mate Bev Letto; Son, Patrick (Jenna) and Daughter, Kelly (Blaine); 3 precious grandbabies who he truly adored, Lincoln, Emma and Logan; his parents Eric and Mae Patey; Brothers, Owen, Chris (Olivia), Dwayne (Alex), and sister Faye (Frank) as well as his nieces and nephews, aunt's and uncles, cousins and many special friends.

He was predeceased by his sister Dawn White; Grandparents, Isabella and William Patey, Thomas and Louis Taylor; Father in law, Albert Peter Letto; m=Mother in law, Kathleen Letto; Sister in law, Mary Ann Letto, and Sister in law, Elizabeth Letto.

SIMMS, MAISIE (Nee Pilgrim)

February 6, 1937 -April 15, 2022

Passed peacefully away at the John M Gray Seniors Hone surrounded by her loving family at the age of 85 years.

Maisie was born to Bramwell and Lucy Pilgrim in Little Brehat, her Mom was sick and died at a young age. From then on Maisie took over the household when her mother became ill. She met and married Clem Simms and moved to St Anthony Bight in 1958 where they lived their lives and raised their family. Maisie owned and operated the general store in St Anthony Bight until she retired. She enjoyed visiting with people of the community as they came into the shop. Maisie was a member of the United Church in St Anthony and St Anthony Bight. She spent many hours knitting, crocheting and quilting. She enjoyed the final product and gifting her creations to her family.

Maisie will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She leaves to mourn Children; Wade (Eileen), Sandra (Terry) Lewis; Special Grandchildren and Greatgrandchildren that she loved and adored, Jennifer (Herb), Justin, Dylan, Hailey and Marcus. Special Niece/Sister Millicent Fowler, as well as many other nieces and nephews that she cherished.

She is predeceased by Husband Clem, son Dwayne, Brothers and Sister in Laws Don Pilgrim (Violet), Spurgeon Pilgrim (Gemima), Florence Richards (Abraham), Lettie (Ruben) Cull, George (Margaret) Pilgrim, Dulcie (Max) Cull, and Ivy Pilgrim.

March 9, 1952 – March 13, 2020

Gladys Patey peacefully passed away in the presence of family and friends at her home, on Friday March 13. 2020 at the age of 68 years. Gladys leaves to mourn her children; Earl (Kim), Colleen (Rob), Colin (Colleen), Virginia (Cory), Baxter (Christine) and Cheryl; Grandchildren, Shawn, Robbie, Cole, Andrew, Laura, Nathan, Sophia, Gracie & Eryn; Sisters, Stella (Ralph), Elsie (Carl), Nina (Gerald), Millie (Whyman), Pansy (Ross), Triffie (Harrison); Brothers, Donald (Grace), Enos (Karen); Sister-in-law Karen Patey, Leona Cull (Eric); Brother-in-law, Eldon Patey (Cassie); her very special friend Truman Simms- we cannot thank you enough for everything, as well as many nieces and nephews, extended family and a large circle of family and friends. SIMMS, THOMAS

July 17, 1944 – January 13, 2020

Thomas Simms was born to Effie (Reid) and Reuben Simms of St. Anthony Bight on July 17, 1944. Tom lived in St. Anthony Bight until he went to Moncton, New Brunswick to take training as a pilot. After completing his training he worked in gander, as well as Goose Bay, returning to St. Anthony in 1976 to work with Grenfell Regional Health Services. He worked there until he retired in 2009. In 1967 Tom married Peggy Budgell of St. Anthony and together they raised two children, Tommy and Tammy. Tom was a kind man and a great friend to all. He enjoyed nature, his gardens, and tinkering with all kinds of engines and could get anything that wasn’t working to work. Tom was a man of great faith and was always faithful to his church. After battling cancer for several years, Tom passed away peacefully on Monday evening, January 13th, 2020 at the age of 75. He leaves to mourn, his wife of nearly 53 years, Peggy; Son, Tom (Sherry); Daughter, Tammy (Dave), as well as his two granddaughters, Amanda and Ashley; Two great-grandsons, Jorden and Jackson. He also leaves to mourn his sister, Bernice (Roy); Brother, Roy (Irene); Sister-in-law, Marie; four brothers-in-law, three sisters-in-law, as well as a large circle of extended family and friends. Tom was predeceased by his parents, Reuben and Effie Simms as well as his brother Bruce. Visitation to take place from Kerry M.
