MYERS, GERALDINE MARY (Nee Caines)

May 31, 1945 - July 27, 2024

A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered.  

It is with great sadness, that the family of the Geraldine Myers (nee Caines) announce her passing on July 27, 2024 at Rufus Guinchard Health Care Center. 

Geraldine was born and raised in Bartlett’s Harbour, where she married and had her family. Geraldine loved to be busy, if she wasn't cooking or cleaning you could be sure to find her on Jacks mesh picking berries or in the Bread Pan making her famous homemade bread. She had a deep love for  music, playing cards, bingo and in later years- evening drives. 

She leaves with found and loving memories her Sons: Marcell (Donna) Myers, Howard Sr (Margaret) Myers, Dan (Colleen) Myers and Daughter: Earline Parsons; Her Grandchildren: Kevin Bruce, Sidney Myers, Cynthia Chafe, Chelsea Myers, Ann (Kris) Reid, Howard (Deanna) Myers, Brandon (Savannah) Myers, Sara (Ashley Miller) Myers, Hannah Myers, Adam Myers, Danielle Parsons & Hilary Parsons; Her Great-Grandchildren: Ryder Bruce, Ava & Norah Myers, Jacob & Mason Chafe, Joan Myers, Scarlett & Piper Myers, Miley & Blade Myers and Elliott Myers.

She also leaves to mourn, her Sisters: Eudora Tatchell (John Rumbolt), Iona (Mose) Caines, Rowena Carnell (Melvin Allingham); Sisters in Law: Emily Caines, Catherine Caines, Janet Caines, Marina Myers; Brothers: Melvin Caines, Dorman (Marie) Caines, Marcell Caines. Geraldine Leaves behind a large circle of family and friends. 

She is predeceased by her Husband: Edmund Myers; Daughter: Emma Myers and Son: Eddie Myers; Her Parents: Thomas and Caroline Caines (Nee Gould); Siblings/in-laws: Louise (Raymond) Beaudoin, Clyde (Theresa) Caines, Dorothy (Patrick) Mahar, Sydney Caines, Evelyn (Walt) Tatchell, Bryant Caines, Austin Caines, Stanley Tatchell, Cecil Caines, Ap Carnell, Wavey Caines, Emma (Joe) Hughes, Adrian Myers, Cornelius Myers, Cecil Myers, Helida Pittman.

Many thanks to her devoted care givers over the years, but in recent years the staff at Rufus Guinchard Healthcare Center. From the nursing staff, kitchen staff, housekeeping, laundry, ambulance staff- if there was music playing you could at any time find one of them dancing with her. You all loved her so much and made her smile whenever you could. We thank each and everyone of you for your devoted dedication to not only your work but your love for your family in Long Term Care.

Her smile will be missed by many but she was loved by all. 

Visitation to take place at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church- Bartlett’s Harbour on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 from 6-9 pm, Wednesday, July 31, 2024 will be open with the family service taking place at 7:00 PM. The funeral will take place on Thursday, August 1, 2024 at 3:00 PM with Fr. Rossi officating. Interment to follow at the Roman Catholic Cemetery in Bartlett’s Harbour.

CHUBBS, JOHN WILLIAM

It is with great sadness that the family of John William Chubbs announce his peaceful passing on February 28th, 2023 at the age of 88 years, at the Rufus Guinchard Health Center. John was born February 25th, 1935 to Archibald and Suzanna Chubbs in Seal Bite Labrador. He was married for 60 years to Ruby Chubbs and together they raised their family of 7Children; Shirley, Ethel, Samuel, Kirby, Thomas, Doretta and Jody. He was blessed with 8 grand-children and 13 Great Grandchildren. John is forever loved and remembered by his wif Ruby, Children Ethel (Herbert), Samuel (Gladys), Kirby (Juanita), Doretta (Albert Jr.) and Jody (Ashton). John Was Predeceased by his parent Archibald and Suzanna Chubbs, Brother Winston and Sterling, Daughter Shirley, Son Thomas and son in law Kirby. the family would like to acknowledge and thank the thoughtful and caring staff at the Rufus Guinchard Health Center Long term Care for their kindness and compassion.

Visitation and Funeral Service was held form the Pentecostal Calvary tabernacle in Roddickton NL on March 1st through the second with the memorial service being held on Friday March 3rd at 2pm with Pastor Mark Locke Officiating. burial will follow in the church cemetery.

September 29, 1932 - August 5, 2021

Dorcas Baines, 88, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2021 at the Long-term Care Unit, Rufus Guinchard Health Centre. Dorcas was born in Shoal Cove West, NL to Lean and John (Jack) Coombs on September 29, 1932. She loved playing cards and she loved her family.
She leaves to Mourn, her Children; John, Hubert (Lucy), George (Darlene), Joy (Steve), Cyril (Theresa), Effie (Bax), Bob, Gay (Jeff); Son-in-law, Doff, Grandchildren, Great-grandchildren and her sisters, Effie and Dulcie.
Besides her parents, 3 brothers, and 2 sisters, she is predeceased by her husband Noah; Daughters, Yvonne and Jill as well as her sons; Pearce, Iran, and Noah.
Dorcas’ family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Rufus Guinchard Health Centre for their exceptional care of our mom over the past 2 1/2 years. We would also like to thank her dear friends, Lillian Beaudion and Una Hynes and everyone who visited her at home and at RGHC.
Cremation has taken place, funeral service and inurnment will be held at French Cove Cemetery on Friday, August 13, 2021 at 2:00pm with Rev. Gosse officiating.

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Virginia Toope of Pond Cove announce her passing on July 15th, 2021 at the Rufus Guinchard Health Centre in Port Saunders, NL at the age of 89 years. She will be sadly missed by her children: Kitty Allingham (Terry), Sheila Waddleton (Ken), Daulton Toope (Bonita), and Marie Kennedy (Lyman); her grandchildren: Michelle Allingham (Maxwell), Sonya Payne (Lenny), Sheila Gould (Donnie), Melissa Chambers (Maurice), Paul Kennedy (Brianna), Bianca Gould (Mike), Ryan Waddleton (Emilie), and Kendra Waddleton (Jonathan); her great-grandchildren: Tyra Payne, Jaron Lavers, Ethan Gould, Brett Payne, Blair Kennedy, Evan Kennedy, Kyle Kennedy, and Capri Gould, as well as a large circle of family and friends. She is predeceased by her loving husband Leonard Toope Sr., parents James and Christinia Chambers, sisters Evelyn Toope, Una Way, and brothers Clyde, Garfield, and Stanley Chambers. The family would like to thank the staff at the Rufus Guinchard Health Centre for all of their tremendous kindness and care during the last 10 months of Virginia’s life. Visitation will be held at the Anglican Parish of Plum Point on Sunday, July 18th between 2-4 and 7-9 PM, with her celebration of life to follow on Monday, July 19th at 2 PM with Reverend Deacon Vernon Short officiating. PITTMAN, WILLIAM JAMES (JIM)

It is with great sadness that we, the family of William James (Jim) Pittman of Plum Point, announce his passing on the morning of April 26, 2021 at Rufus Guinchard Memorial Hospital at the age of 72 years.  He leaves to mourn his wife Jane (nee young); children: Michael (Tina) and Betty (Todd); stepchildren: Gary (Rupa) and Rick (Roxanne); grandchildren: Alexis, Dillon, Emily, Caitlin, Evan, Hailey and Vanessa; siblings: Michael John (Madelon), Theresa (Bud), Mary (John Joe), Primus (Christine), Ronald (Gloria), Sheila (Hughie), Melvin (Mary), Maurice (Wanda), Eileen (Matthias), Christine and Lorraine (Lawrence).  As well he leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Jim was predeceased by his parents Christopher and Bridget Pittman and brother-in -law Royal Gibbons. Viewing at the Church of The Advent, Plum Point. BAINES, MELVIN H.

Passed away at the Rufus Guinchard Health Centre in Port Saunders on August 10, 2018 at the age of 68 years. Melvin was born on March 25th, 1950 to George and Alma Baines. He met the love of his life Olga Coombs 40 + years ago; together they raised one child, Lars until her passing in November 2014. He loved the outdoors, hunting, and most of all his Grandsons, Bo and Reid. He will be surely missed by all who knew him. Melvin leaves to mourn his Son, Lars (Thelma); Grandsons Bo and Reid; Siblings George (Liz), Hayward (Jessie), Olga (Albert), Augustine, Kay, Joyce (Jim), Iris (Lambert); Sister-in-laws Dorcas, Shirley as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends. He is predeceased by his Life Partner Olga; Parents George and Alma; Siblings Noah, Leander (Lucy), Wilfred (Theresa), Virginia (Nathaniel), Harold; and Brother-in-laws Les and Harvey. Passed away July 24th, 2018 at the age of 84 years. She leaves to mourn her Husband, George Pittman, and Sisters Eliza Genge, Dulcie Humber (and families) as well as a large circle of extended family and friends. Ruth was predeceased by her parents George and Kitty Chambers, her brother Stedman Chambers, and her sister Jane. Visitation was held from the Anglican Church of the Advent in Plum Point from where her funeral was held on July 28th 2018 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Jennifer Renouf officiating and Rev. Christiana was predeceased by her Husband George; Great Grandson Nicholas Hillier; Brothers Edward, Abraham, William (Marjorie), Leslie (Hilda); Sisters Effie (Stephen), Georgina (Thomas), Minnie (Jacob), Evelyn (Phillip), Mary Anne (Nathaniel), Viola (Absalom), Jessie (Freeman); Very Special Friend Gloria Gould; and Parents Stephen Chambers and Jane Dredge. She was predeceased by her husband Raymond; Daughters Sarah and Augustine; Parents Eugene and Sarah Parrill; Son in Law Desmond MacArthur; Sister Elizabeth Jane Crane; and special nephews Nelson Crane.
