DIAMOND, WILLIAM WALLACE

July 6, 1946 - March 7, 2025

It is with great sadness and broken hearts that the family of William Wallace Diamond announces his sudden passing on March 7, 2025, in Aurora, ON, at the age of 78.

Wallace (Wall) was the son of the late George William and Alma (Coles) Diamond. Born in Flower’s Cove, Newfoundland, on July 6, 1946, he was a proud inshore fisherman for forty years. He was blessed with a sixth sense for the sea, and his family often joked that he should have been a meteorologist because he always knew what the weather would be. When the fishery could no longer provide a living, he turned to farming in Nova Scotia before working at Quality Electric Motors with his niece Jackie and husband Ron Gallant in Ontario, where he retired in 2011. Known for his steady demeanor, strong work ethic, and immense love for his family, Wall was a calming presence and always ready to help friends in his community. He was happiest by the water, enjoying his daily walks, shovelling snow, or watching his cherished Chicago Blackhawks.

Wall is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Rhea, and “his girls,” Tara (Lee Grant) and Megan (Jon Hilditch). He was incredibly proud of his daughters and their accomplishments in life, happily dividing his time between Newfoundland and Ontario to be near them. Wall’s love for family grew when his precious grandchildren were born. He was a proud Poppy to Payton Hilditch, Ryan Grant, Brendan Grant, and Lily Hilditch. In his eyes, there was nothing they could do wrong, and he cheered proudly at their hockey games, gymnastics, and swim competitions. His warmest and brightest blue eyes sparkled with joy whenever he was with them. He is further survived by his loving sisters Lettie Rose, Gladys Noel (Wayne), Linda Thornhill (Jim), brother Matt Diamond (Sandra Burton), brother-in-law Charlie Campbell (Sharon Waxman), along with many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

In addition to his parents, Wall is predeceased by his sister Mary Moores (Wilson), his special nephew Randy Moores (the son he never had), nephew Ashley Rose, mother-in-law Myrtle Campbell, and brother-in-law Don Campbell.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to York Regional Fire, Paramedics, and Police, who went above and beyond, showing the utmost professionalism, understanding, and compassion.

In keeping with Wall’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be held the week of March 24th at the Flower’s Cove United Church. Exact date and time to be communicated in the upcoming days.
