TUCKER, DELILAH

May 18, 1928 - February 17, 2024

Passed peacefully away February, 17, 2024 at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital, St. Anthony, Newfoundland.  Delilah Tucker in her 96th year. She leaves to mourn with fond memories her children: Eliza Colbourne, Louise (Lester) Bessey, Robert (Jean), Ricky (Rose), Leonard (Priscilla), Harvey (Dale), Sheila, and Patricia. Grandchildren, Great-Grand Children, and Great-Great-Grand Children.

Delilah was born 18 May 1928 in Ship Cove. At the age of three, in 1932, her mother died, and having been raised by her Grand Parents, she had been heard to say “she never knew a Mother’s Love”. But that in no way deterred her in the outpourings of Love that was bestowed upon the four generations that followed. On Dec 28, 1943 she married Silby Tucker, a union that was to endure for the next 75 plus years. After raising a family of nine children, and when most having left the nest, she worked for many years at the Fish Plant in St. Anthony. A woman of many talents, educated for none.

She is pre-deceased by her husband Silby of 75 years, parents Thomas and Eliza Tucker, siblings: Charles, Francis, Alvin, Alice, Ross, and Lester Guy.  Children: Gordon, Betty, a Baby Boy and Olive. Sons-in-Law Winston Colbourne, Roy Heath and Jack Pittman, and Daughter-in-Law Mary. Grandchildren: Whyman, Robert (Diane, Grand Daughter-in-law), and Jeremy. And Great Grand Child: Christopher Simms.

Visitation to take place from Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home, West Street, St. Anthony on Tuesday, February 20th, 2:00-4:00 pm for Family, and 7:00-9:00 pm Public. Funeral Service to be held on February 21st, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home St. Anthony. In keeping with Delilah’s wishes cremation will take place.

A committal service will take place at the Ship Cove - Cape Onion Cemetery on Friday, August 23, 2023 at 11:00 am with Carol Roberts officiating.

ANDREWS, WESLEY ROY

April 10, 1949 - July 3, 2023

Wesley Roy Andrews was born April 10, 1949 to John and Daphne (Tucker) Andrews in Ship Cove.

At a very young age Wes fished with his father before going to work at the fish plant in Trepassy. It was here that he married and his son Kevin was born. He then settled in Ship Cove and worked in the fish plant in St. Anthony. After that he spent many summers working at construction jobs in Labrador.

In later years he spent all his time in Ship Cove fishing, getting mussels, and cutting wood. He and his dear friend Carrie especially loved picking berries.

Wesley leaves to mourn, his son: Kevin; Brothers: Garl (Hazel), Gus (Jean), Lloyd (Janet), Alonzo (Diane), Dennis (Margy); Sisters: Marjorie, Millicent, June; and special friend: Carrie.

He is predeceased by his Parents: John and Daphne (Tucker) Andrews as well as Sisters: Dulcie Pynn, Mabel Eddison, and Nina Swanson

ROBERTS, KEYWOOD RAYMOND HARRIS

September 25, 1934 - August 17, 2022

Raymond passed away at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on August 17, 2022 at the age of 87 years.

On September 25, 1934, Raymond was born to Keywood & Amelia Roberts of Ship Cove. He moved to Main Brook as a young man to work with Bowaters, where he met his wife Florence, and they raised 12 Children and 2 Grandchildren. Later in life they moved to Labrador City where he was employed with Iron ore Company of Canada as a millwright, after he retired moved Back home to ship cove and built a new home, he was a very talented man, in lots of ways, electrical work especially, and could fix almost anything.

He Leaves to mourn his Children, Gladys (Henry Kelloway), Barbara (Glenn Taylor), Medford (Lynn), Harrison (Carrie), Lorraine (Gerard Efford), Elva (Eric Dempsey), Jacqueline (Calvin Noseworthy). Margaret (Dennis Anhdrews), Kirby (Francis), Martin (Christine), Morgan, Keywood (Sarah); Daughter-in-law, Juanita; Son-in-law, Paul Flynn as well as a large circle of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, other extended family and friends.

He is pre-deceased by his Wife, Florence, Son, Johnson, Daughter, Sue-Ellen, and his Parents, Keywood and Amelia Roberts.

TUCKER, DORA

October 12, 1947 - December 21, 2021

Dora was born in Ship Cove on October 12th 1947 to Myrtle & Norman Taylor. She passed peacefully on the evening of December 21, 2021. She was a loving wife to Hayward Tucker, having five children in total for him, one boy & four girls. She loved all her grandchildren, but raised two of eight grandchildren as her own, Anthony who is pre deceased & Derrick, who also made her a great-grandmother to two great grandbabies: Sophia & Benson.

She was a hard working FPI worker all her life until the plant closed for the moratorium in 1992. She always was in good spirits & loved children, it did not matter if it was her own or a total stranger. She moved to Labrador after the death of her husband & found her partner Edward who treated her like the queen she was & loved her family as if they were his own. She lived a fun and fulfilling life until the very end.

She leaves behind her five children, seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, one sister, two brothers & is now in her forever resting place along with those deceased before her.
The family would like to thank the John. M. Grey Center in St. Anthony for providing our loved one with the care & support she needed in her last endeavours.

HURLEY, SAMUEL STEVEN

Samuel Steven Hurley March 14, 1926 - August 25,2020 Samuel Hurley passed away peacefully at Roddickton House in Roddickton on August 25,2020 at the age of 94. He was born on March 14th,1926 but due to error his birth was listed as 1927, He was the only son born to James and Rebecca Hurley of Westport,NL along with his sister Sarah. He moved to Ship Cove as a very young boy with his family and lost his father James shortly after. His mother remarried his step father Charles Decker and they both had 6 other children. Samuel met his first wife Bessie Andrews and were married Nov 10,1948 and together they raised 10 children, Bessie passed in 1987 and after several years met Louise Hammond and were married until her death in 2004. Samuel worked as a fisherman and in the lumber woods for most of his working life. He also worked in carpentry, he enjoyed working with his hands making figures and boats with wood and other materials which he sold or gave to family,friends and those who just stopped by, which admired them. He also enjoyed reading, doing puzzle books, berry picking, and gardening. Samuel is survived by his children James Hurley, Catherine (Edward) Humby, Edna (Lloyd) Desmond, Wilson Hurley, Patricia Mercer, Guy (Joy)Hurley, Iona Taylor, Audrey Hurley(Sterling Dawe), Siblings Sarah Hedderson, Florence Hedderson and Jessie Tucker, along with 25 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren and a large circle of family and friends. He is predeceased by his parents James Hurley, Rebecca Decker and step father Charles Decker, wifes Bessie Hurley and Louise Hurley, daughter Audrey Hurley, son Edmund Hurley, daughter in law Lephna Hurley, son in law Keith Mercer, brothers Henry, Charles and Wilbur Decker and sister Bertha Hedderson. Funeral services will take place on Friday August 28, 2:00pm at Calvary Pentecostal Tabernacle in St. Lunaire- Griquet followed by burial at Pentecostal cemetery in Ship Cove. DECKER, IRIS

September 3, 1940 - July 21, 2020

Iris Marina Decker Born September 3, 1940 in Red Bay Labrador, resident of Ship Cove Newfoundland, passed away July 21, 2020 at the home of her daughter in Middle Sackville, Nova Scotia, predeceased by her Father and Mother Thomas and Fronia Pike of Red Bay Labrador. Survived by her husband Ross Decker and four children, Ron Decker (Darlene) Middleton NS, Penny Decker, Sacramento California, Kevin Decker, Dartmouth, NS and Jean Decker Samson (Cameron) Middle Sackville, NS 5 grandchildren, Kimberly, Angela, Alex, Dylan and Jake, 1 great-grandchild Danicka. As well as her Brothers: Heber Pike, (Donna), Bert Pike (Mallie), Bill Pike (Linda), Dave Pike (Joan), Ross Pike (Maisie), Kevin Pike (Elaine), and Wayne Pike (Janet) and her sisters Sophia Bessey (Jim), Ruth Poole (Wallace), and Emily Hall (Darryl) and numerous nieces and nephews. Iris was a well known and much loved lady in her community, And she loved Ship Cove with her whole heart. She showed her dedication to the town and its people over the years through her efforts, which were focused and also far reaching. She wanted to see the community cleaned up and preserved for all to enjoy for generations to come. She worked with the government to get improved roads, walking trails, benches, picnic tables and signs. She worked along side the recreation committee to clean up the beaches, and got work for summer students to preserve the history of Ship Cove. From her 35 years as a teacher to later years on the Labrador Grenfell Board she served tirelessly to improve the lot of the people she considered her friends and family. The children she taught were special to her and she never forgot one name. Iris also served her God throughout her life, teaching Sunday school, leading the United Church women, serving on the manse committee to get a permanent minister for the area. She made many friends with the clergy and was always pleased to have them share a meal after Sunday service. Through the years she wore many hats, wrote letters for people, prepared their taxes, tended to the sick as they needed it, but she was most proud to be a mother and grandmother, taking time to travel and visit her children as they scattered around the world, displaying their pictures and praising their accomplishments whenever she had a willing ear. She was a devoted wife of nearly 60 years and Ross and Iris spent very little time apart. She was a force to be reckoned with, a light to her family , friends and community. Roland passed away January 23, 2020 at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 75 years. Roland Leaves to mourn his Brother, Ernest Bessey; Sisters, Joyce Smith, Hazel (Garland) Andrews, Elaine (Gary) Hollohan, as well, he will be missed greatly by other relatives and friends. Roland was predeceased by his parents, Reginald and Greta Bessey. ANDREWS, JUANITA MARIE

July 22, 1945 – October 12, 2019

Juanita Marie Andrews was born in Ship Cove on July 22, 1945 to Robert and Ethel Taylor. She was the oldest of 11 children. She met and later married Adolphus Andrews on October 14, 1963. Together while living in Ship Cove they raised two children, one daughter, Glenda and one son; Christopher. Juanita loved helping her Husband with getting their wood for the winter, going berry picking together, as well as helping with the potato garden. She loved the outdoors. She really enjoyed doing family things together, especially during Christmas and Birthdays. She was a lovely housekeeper, wife, and mother. The greatest love of Juanita's life was when she found the Lord and became a faithful and dedicated member of her church with her husband Adolphus Andrews. She raised her children in a loving and Christian household. She leaves to mourn, her Husband, Adolphus Andrews; Daughter, Glenda (Tom); Son, Christopher (Alice); Grandchildren, Robert Hedderson & Jennifer Ward; Brothers, Roy & David; Sisters, Winnie (Eric), Violet (Calvin), Karen (Cecil), Maysie (Primus), Joanne; as well as 5 nephews, 2 great nephews, and 2 nieces, and a large circle of family and friends. TAYLOR, OTTO

Otto Taylor was born in March of 1922. He was a fisherman, a woodsman, and as a young man he built his own house. But his life changed wonderfully when he married Ella Andrews, who had been widowed young with two children. He took those children as his own, and he even dismantled his home and took it by boat to re-assemble it closer to Ella's parents. They married in January of 1954 and shared life together until death took Ella away weeks short of their 50th anniversary. Otto loved his family, and they gather to give thanks for him. Otto loved to play the mouth organ and the button accordion. We can imagine him playing for dances and other social events. Some will hold some memories of some little ditty that Otto played, just for the joy of it. Otto was a good Newfoundlander, a ready neighbour and a friend. He will be greatly missed. He leaves to mourn, his Children, Gertie (Angus), Tony (Vivian), Shirley and Patty (Andy); Daughter-in-law, Elizabeth; Grandchildren, Sonya (Richard), Sherri (Mike), Terry (Mike), Garrett (Pam), Tom (Denise), Ken (Karen), Tammy (John) and Brenda; Nine Great Grandchildren; and Brother, Lance. Otto was pre-deceased by Wife Ella, Parents, Son Hedley, Granddaughter Jocelyn, Son-in-law Earl, six Brothers and one Sister. TUCKER, WILFRED LEONARD

July 21, 1939- August 26-2018

In the arms of his loving family, Wilfred passed away on August 26 at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital, in St. John's. In December 1956, at the young age of 17, Wilfred joined the Royal Canadian Artillery and was based in Shilo, Manitoba. His second year would see him deployed to Germany with Nato. Upon his return, he spent some time fishing and working as a deckhand aboard the Scientific Exploration Ship, Theron. He also spent some time guiding the American Hunters in central Newfoundland. Wilfred spent the next 15 years employed with James W. Patey Plumbing and Heating in St. Anthony, before being employed with the Corp of Commissioners. Wilfred was based in airports, St. Anthony and St. John's until his retirement in 2001. During his working career he was also a volunteer with the Canadian Forces Reserves (Ranger) for 12 years. He leaves to mourn his wife of 51 years, Mabel. Their children; Mona (Junior), Maxine (Rodney), Kevin (Kelly), Kenneth (Jeanette) and Bonnie (Darren). Grandchildren; Tyler (Mindy), Jeremy (Michelle), Olivia, D'marco, Kayla (Rod), Kendall, Katie, Deven and Brianna. Great Grandchildren; Lyla and Colton. Brother Selby (Delilah), and Sister Mamie. Also leaving to mourn extended family and a large circle of friends who will miss his stories, kindness, and humour. Predeceased by his parents Kenneth & Elizabeth Tucker, half-sister Verdie (Tom) & half-brother Roderick. Brothers, Wilson (Jessie), Valen (Daisy) & Carl (Millicent) and brother-in-law Newton Morgan (Mamie).Visitation was held from the United Church in Ship Cove from where the funeral service was held on Thursday, August 30th, 2018 at 2:00 pm with Rev.
