Iris Marina Decker Born September 3, 1940 in Red Bay Labrador, resident of Ship Cove Newfoundland, passed away July 21, 2020 at the home of her daughter in Middle Sackville, Nova Scotia, predeceased by her Father and Mother Thomas and Fronia Pike of Red Bay Labrador. Survived by her husband Ross Decker and four children, Ron Decker (Darlene) Middleton NS, Penny Decker, Sacramento California, Kevin Decker, Dartmouth, NS and Jean Decker Samson (Cameron) Middle Sackville, NS 5 grandchildren, Kimberly, Angela, Alex, Dylan and Jake, 1 great-grandchild Danicka. As well as her Brothers: Heber Pike, (Donna), Bert Pike (Mallie), Bill Pike (Linda), Dave Pike (Joan), Ross Pike (Maisie), Kevin Pike (Elaine), and Wayne Pike (Janet) and her sisters Sophia Bessey (Jim), Ruth Poole (Wallace), and Emily Hall (Darryl) and numerous nieces and nephews. Iris was a well known and much loved lady in her community, And she loved Ship Cove with her whole heart. She showed her dedication to the town and its people over the years through her efforts, which were focused and also far reaching. She wanted to see the community cleaned up and preserved for all to enjoy for generations to come. She worked with the government to get improved roads, walking trails, benches, picnic tables and signs. She worked along side the recreation committee to clean up the beaches, and got work for summer students to preserve the history of Ship Cove. From her 35 years as a teacher to later years on the Labrador Grenfell Board she served tirelessly to improve the lot of the people she considered her friends and family. The children she taught were special to her and she never forgot one name. Iris also served her God throughout her life, teaching Sunday school, leading the United Church women, serving on the manse committee to get a permanent minister for the area. She made many friends with the clergy and was always pleased to have them share a meal after Sunday service. Through the years she wore many hats, wrote letters for people, prepared their taxes, tended to the sick as they needed it, but she was most proud to be a mother and grandmother, taking time to travel and visit her children as they scattered around the world, displaying their pictures and praising their accomplishments whenever she had a willing ear. She was a devoted wife of nearly 60 years and Ross and Iris spent very little time apart. She was a force to be reckoned with, a light to her family , friends and community. Elsie Parrill (Simms) was born on April 10, 1942 in St. Anthony Bight, NL, and she married Elijah Parrill on March 12, 1964. They had 2 children; Triffie and Wade, and three grandchildren; Mikaela, Robby and Caitlyn. Elsie was employed at Curtis Hospital for 30 years, where she befriended many co-workers and patients over the years. most of her working years were on the obstetrical floor. Elsie enjoyed spending quality time with children and grandchildren. her best friend was her husband, and they spent many hours doing thing they enjoyed. her kindness, mild manner, patience and love for her family will be remembered by all.

The Funeral Service took place at the St. Anthony United Church in St. Anthony at 2:00pm on January 2nd, 2020 with Rev. Charles (Gus) Pendelton officiating, Burial followed the service at the Fishing Point United Cemetery. Funeral Arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. BLAKE, PATSY ELOS (nee Kean)
Passed away at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital on December 4, 2019 at the age of 79 years.Patsy was born and raised in Quirpon. She married the love of her life, Ross and together they made a life in Quirpon with their eight children. Patsy was an incredibly strong and determined woman. She was widowed at a young age but that did not hinder her from focusing her efforts on raising her children. After retiring from the fish plant in St. Anthony, in recent years Patsy spent much of her time with her family in Alberta. She loved being able to spend time with her family and joining in on their many adventures. She had a zest for life and lived each day to the fullest, even during her time of illness. She will be greatly missed by those who loved her dearly. Patsy leaves to mourn with fond memories, daughters - Maxine (Ivan), Brenda (Lloyd), Bernice (Cory), Violet (Jason), Emma (Stan), Sheila (Jason), Sons - Claude and Shawn (Fawn). At age 64, Lorrie Roberts passed peacefully away November 27th, 2019 at Curtis Memorial hospital. In her final moments she was surrounded by her nearest and dearest family members. Strength, determination, heart of gold and nerves of steel. There will never be enough words to describe Lorrie’s disposition and outlook on life. She was completely selfless putting the lives of everyone else before her own. At age 18, Lorrie was given the task of raising her 6 younger siblings. Ensuring they had a motherly figure to depend on, she stepped seamlessly into the role. As the children gradually grew up and moved on, Lorrie started working at the local fish plant in St. Anthony where she worked until the collapse of the fishery. During that time she was married and raised two children of her own. It was then she began to devote her time to her true passion of cooking and baking. She worked in various restaurants throughout the years, ending her career at the Lighthouse Keepers Cafe. No matter how many hours she spent on her feet she always found time for her favorite leisure activities including sewing, trouting, card games and darts, just to name a few. She was the epitome of a social butterfly and loved every minute of it. She has touched countless lives throughout the years and will undoubtedly be missed. She leaves to mourn; Husband - Alec, daughters - Tisha (Rick) and Tina, her pride and joy, granddaughter - Tamara; Sisters - Linda (Phillip), Rose (Tony), Marcella (Paul); Brothers - Charlie (Suzy), Eugene (Rita), Joe (Brenda), Austin (Agnes); Sisters in law Paula and Eleanor: as well as numerous extended family members and friends. DECKER, VIOLET GENEVIEVE (nee Patey)

Violet Genevieve (Patey) Decker was born in St. Anthony on December 31, 1920. She was an adventurous, fun loving person who always enjoyed a good laugh. Violet graduated from the Grenfell Amalgamated School and went on to get her teaching license at Memorial University College. She began her teaching career in 1942 in St. Anthony Bight, from there she taught in Brooklyn, Bonavista Bay, the Grenfell School in St. Anthony and in Ship Cove where she met her husband and married in 1950. When they moved back to St. Anthony she had several jobs and finished her working career as a switchboard operator at Curtis Memorial Hospital. She loved to travel and often spoke of her trips to Florida, Europe and within Canada. She especially reminisced about her train trip across Canada and also loved practicing her French in St. Pierre. She enjoyed spending time in her garden and knitting beautiful afghan blankets. In later years, when she wasn’t at her cabin in Ship Cove, she could be seen walking from her house to her parents’ for a visit with them and her sister Mary. Violet loved being a part of the 50+ Club and continued to enjoy the social scene at Shirley’s Haven especially the card games and the musical entertainment. She kept up to date on current news and world events and would discuss it with anyone who was interested. She leaves to mourn her brother Dennis (Dorothy) Patey; her nieces Sharon Spurrell, Kathy (Colin) Morris, Janice (Paul) Kattenbusch; nephews Glenn Patey, Dion (Darlene) Patey, Danny (Stacey) Patey, Darren (Tina) Patey; great nieces Danielle, Shawna, Lauren, Brooke and Natasha; great nephews Christopher, Nicholas, Jordan, Cayden and Logan; one Great-great nephew Patrick. She married Norman Best on December 3, 1955 and together they raised four children. Passed away September 5th, 2019 at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital at the age of 55 years. Loren leaves to mourn with cherished memories; Wife - Pansy, daughters – Samantha (Keith) and Lorna (Ryan), along with the lights of his life, three precious grandchildren; Clay, Kai and Rachel. He also leaves to mourn his extended immediate family; Frances (Isreal), Ralph, Hubert (Doris), Edward (Lavenia), Albert (Triffenia), Boyce (Michele), Alec (Loretta), Eli (Marlene), Grace, Amanda (Wayne), Gail (Keith), Samantha (Brian), Lucy-Ann, Tim (Angela), Ena, nieces, nephews and numerous special friends. Loren was pre-deceased by; Mother – Jean, Father – Andrew, father-in-law - Carmen and brother - Calvin.
Loren was a jack of all trades and loved spending time in the great outdoors. He took great pride in everything he did and had never backed down from a challenge. Other than spending quality time with family, his three greatest loves included spending his time on the great North Atlantic, truck driving on the wide open roads and mastering any carpentry task sent his way. Even in his months of illness, Loren took each day as a blessing.
Family and Friends are welcome to visit the Central United Church on September 8th, 2019 from 7-9pm to pay respect. A celebration of life will be held September 9th, 2019 at 2pm followed with inurnment burial at Central United Cemetery. James Campbell Carnell “Jim” was born on October 27, 1964 in Flower’s Cove to Sidney and Millie Carnell. In 1999, he married the love of his life, Ena Etheridge from Bradore Bay, along with their beautiful daughter Andrea. Later, they were blessed with an adorable son Jamie. Jim passed away suddenly on Saturday, July 13, at the age of 54. Jim will always be remembered by his wife, Ena; Daughter, Andrea (Scott), Granddaughters, Reese and Grace; Son, Jamie; Mom, Millie; Sister, Maggie (Harold); Sisters-in-law, Latrice, Charlotte (Ross), Dorothy; Brother-in-law, Elliott, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Wilson Blake, age 83, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital. He was born on July 21, 1935, in Spillars Cove to James and Martha Jane Blake. He was the youngest of 10 children and predeceased by all. Wilson fished for the majority of his life until he retired at the age of 65 where he then spent his time making wooden crafts and enjoying time with his family. Wilson left an unforgettable impression on anyone who met him, an everlasting sense of humor and an immeasurable amount of kindness. He instilled the importance of family in those he left behind.
