LYONS, JAMES

It is with great sadness that the family of the late James Scott Lyons announce his passing on June 26, 2024, at the age of 44. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife Heidi, his children Madisyn and Caleb; mother Sharlene Martin; father and step-mother David & Therese Lyons; mother and father in law Wilson & Marjorie Budden; His sister Jennifer(Matt); stepbrother Jamie(Jennifer); stepsister Jennifer(Darrell); brother in law Christopher(Judy). His nephew Joe; nieces Erica, Kaleigh, Julia, Abbegayle, Amelia & Kaitlyn.  He will be sadly missed by his energetic and loving pet Champ! James was a strong man, demonstrated by his perseverance and faith throughout his illness. He loved his family immeasurably, his faith in God and the Edmonton Oilers.  He served in the RCAF as an air traffic controller and after 21 1/2 years of service, he moved to Gander, NL with his family to start a new career with NAV CANADA. He will be missed by all who knew him.

A public visitation will be held at Calvary Pentecostal Church in Roddickton, NL on July 5 between 2 and 4 PM and 7 and 9 PM.

Funeral service for James will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, July 6th, 2024, at Calvary Pentecostal Church, Roddickton, NL. Burial will follow at the Calvary Pentecostal Cemetery.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful staff at Health Sciences Center who cared for James during his time there. Sincere thanks go out to all those who offered prayers, support and hospitality during this difficult time.

WILLIAMS, JAMES

March. 11, 1954 – August. 10, 2023

It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that the family of the late James Williams share the sad news of his passing at Straits of Bell Isle Hospital on August. 10 2023 at the age of 69. He passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family and friends.

James was born to John and Susanna Williams on March 11 1954 on Current Island. He was one of his fourteen siblings. He married the love of his life Cornelia Williams on February 13th 1976 and together they raised three daughters.

James will be forever remembered and sadly missed. James leaves to mourn: his beloved wife Cornelia, daughters Tonya (Marcus), Trudy (Jamie), Tara-Lynn (Billy): Grandchildren Jemma (Christopher), Jorden, Jamie-lee, Bailee, and James: Great-Grandchildren Noah. Siblings Stanley (Bessie), Cora (Melvin), Edith (Kirby), Ruby (Gerald), In-Laws Ivy (Wade), Philomena (Abe), George (Barb), along with several nieces, nephews and a large circle of family and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents John and Susanna, sisters Hazareth (Arch), Virginia (Ches), along with seven other siblings deceased at a young age. In laws Elias and Rita. Along with his nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the Strait of Bell Isle Health Centre and Curtis Memorial Hospital staff for their care during his illness. Special thanks to Bonnie and Helen at the chemo center at Curtis Memorial.

James will be fondly remembered for his strength, love, courage and cheerful soul to all that knew him.

Cremation has taken place. Family service will take place from St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Black duck Cove on Saturday August 19th 2023 at 7:00PM. Funeral will take place at a later date.

It is with great sadness that that the family of the late James Coombs of Plum Point announce his passing at the John M. Gray Center on May 26, 2021 at the age of 86 years old. Jim was born April 16th, 1935 in Plum Point and lived there all of his life. In his early years he worked in the woods. When he was 32 years old, he went to school and became an Auto Body Technician. He ran his own business Coombs’ Auto Body Shop until his retirement. After retirement he spent many hours in his garden. He loved socializing with his many friends and family. He also loved being a pop to his three grandchildren, spending time with them and encouraging them in everything they did. His family would like to thank the staff of the John M. Gray Center for their care and compassion. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 58 years Lillian (Gibbons of Current Island), children Eliza (Roy), Ben (Anita), grandsons Sidney (Chelsea) and Alex (Taylor) and granddaughter Sarah; brothers: Gerald (Maisie) and Henry. In laws Edmund (Mary Ann) Gibbons, Edith (Isaac) Dredge, Annie Gibbons, and Gladys Gibbons. As well he leaves behind a wide circle of family and friends and especially Rodney, Evelyn, Minnie, and Heather who were always a big part of his family. He is predeceased by his parents Benjamin and Minnie (Hughes) Coombs, in laws Steven and Myrtle (Chambers) Gibbons, brother Joseph Coombs, in laws Myrtle Coombs, Valma Coombs, Martin Gibbons and James Gibbons. It is with great sadness that we, the family of William James (Jim) Pittman of Plum Point, announce his passing on the morning of April 26, 2021 at Rufus Guinchard Memorial Hospital at the age of 72 years.  He leaves to mourn his wife Jane (nee young); children: Michael (Tina) and Betty (Todd); stepchildren: Gary (Rupa) and Rick (Roxanne); grandchildren: Alexis, Dillon, Emily, Caitlin, Evan, Hailey and Vanessa; siblings: Michael John (Madelon), Theresa (Bud), Mary (John Joe), Primus (Christine), Ronald (Gloria), Sheila (Hughie), Melvin (Mary), Maurice (Wanda), Eileen (Matthias), Christine and Lorraine (Lawrence).  As well he leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Jim was predeceased by his parents Christopher and Bridget Pittman and brother-in -law Royal Gibbons. Viewing at the Church of The Advent, Plum Point. TUCKER, SILBY JAMES

Passed away August 13, 2019, at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital, St. Anthony, Newfoundland.  Silby James TUCKER in his 92rd year.  He leaves to mourn with fond memories his wife of seventy five years, Delilah, their children: Eliza (Winston), Louise (Lester), Shelia (Roy), and Patricia (Jack), Robert (Jean), Ricky (Rose), Leonard, and Harvey (Dale). Grand Children, Great Grand Children and Great-Great Grand Children. Silby was born and raised in Ship Cove, Newfoundland, where at the age of 12 he joined his dad in the fishing boat, life was not easy in those years, but thru hard work and determination, he provided and saw the family thru the hard times.  It was in the early ‘60s that the scourge of TB visited our family and resulted in Sibly being hospitalized for 6 months, followed by 2 years of treatment and recovery. It was not long after, that he was back fishing, hunting, doing the things he loved. Following the decline of the fishery, he found work elsewhere, in the labour fields, wherever he could. As a hunter, and provider, there was none better, we seemed to be never in want of something on the table for Sunday dinners. He is pre-deceased by his parents, Kenneth and Elizabeth Tucker, siblings half-sister Verdie (Tom) and half-brother Roderick, brothers, Wilson (Jessie), Valen (Daisy) and Wilfred (Mabel) sister Mariam (Newton Morgan), and daughter-in-law Mary (Leonard) also children Olive, Gordon, Betty and Baby Boy, Grandchildren; Whyman Colbourne, Robert Colbourne (Diane), Jeremy Patey and Great Grand Child Christopher Simms. Visitation was held from Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home, West St. St. Anthony. The funeral service was held from the Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home, West St. St. Anthony on 2:00 pm Friday, Aug 16, 2019.  After cremation, interment arrangements are to be held at a later date at United Church Cemetery, Ship Cove. CARNELL, JAMES “JIM” CAMPBELL

October 27, 1964 - July 13, 2019

James Campbell Carnell “Jim” was born on October 27, 1964 in Flower’s Cove to Sidney and Millie Carnell. In 1999, he married the love of his life, Ena Etheridge from Bradore Bay, along with their beautiful daughter Andrea. Later, they were blessed with an adorable son Jamie. Jim passed away suddenly on Saturday, July 13, at the age of 54. Jim will always be remembered by his wife, Ena; Daughter, Andrea (Scott), Granddaughters, Reese and Grace; Son, Jamie; Mom, Millie; Sister, Maggie (Harold); Sisters-in-law, Latrice, Charlotte (Ross), Dorothy; Brother-in-law, Elliott, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Jim was predeceased by his father, Sidney; Brother, Charlie; In-laws, Pernell and Therese; Great Nephews, Blake and Miles. KEEFE, JAMES DORMAN

January 21, 1954 – May 24, 2019

Passed on May 24th, 2019 at the age of 65 years. He leaves to cherish memoires, his Brothers; Wesley (Marilyn) Keefe, Bob (Iris) Keefe, Grant (Mae) Keefe, Lomond (Beryl) Keefe; Sisters, Beatrice Gear, Nancy (Richard) Shulek, Celeste (Bryan) White, Florence (George) Canning as well as a large circle of relatives and friends. CHAMBERS, JAMES

Passed away peacefully at the John Grey center four days short of his 92nd birthday on January 7th, 2019. He will always be remembered by Sons Elgin (Ida), Ivan (Peggy), His grandson Borje (Sherilee) and his two great grandsons Michael James & Jonathan Roland. James will also be remembered by a large circle of other relatives, friends and his extended family at the John Grey home. James was predeceased by his wife Maude (January 10, 2017) Mother and father  Algeron & Lily Chambers, Mother and Father in law John & Mary Pittman, Sisters Myrtle (Stephan) Gibbons, Susan(Alfred) Pittman. Visitation was held from the Anglican Church of the Advent in Plum Point from where the funeral service was held on January 11, 2019 with Rev. Jennifer Renouf officiating. Interment followed. GIBBONS, JAMES

November 3, 1947 – May 20, 2018

It is with great sadness that the family of the late James Gibbons announces his passing. James was born on November 3, 1947 on Current Island. In 1969 he married Gladys Bonnell, together they had two children; Jimmy and Winnie. He had five grandchildren that he adored. He had two sisters; Edith (Isaac) and Lillian (Jim) and bothers Martin (Annie) and Edmund (Paula). He was a fisherman for 30+ years and was an active member of his local fisherman’s committee. Jim was also a proud member of Loyal Orange Lodge and enjoyed Saturday night with his member friends. He will be forever missed. He leaves to mourn his wife Gladys; Children Jimmy (Carol) and Winnie (Darcy); Grandchildren Luke, William, Ben, Makenna, and Micah as well as a large circle of family and friends. James was predeceased by his parents Stephen and Myrtle; Brother Martin; and Niece Eileen. Visitation was held from St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Black Duck Cove from where the funeral service was held on Friday, June 1, 2018 at 11:00 am with Rev. Jennifer Renouf officiating.
