NOBLE, REUBEN JAMES

April 20, 1953 - November 24 2022

It is with profound sadness that the family of Reuben Noble announce his passing on November 24, 2022 at Curtis Memorial Hospital at the age of 69. Reub was born on April 20, 1953 in Great Brehat, NL to Victor and Bertha Noble. He was one of twelve children. On November 26, 1976 he married the love of his life Ruby. Together they raised one daughter, Vicki and were blessed with two grandchildren, Jacob & Norah. 

 Reub was a fisherman for most of his life and he loved his time at sea. He loved the outdoors and spent many hours taking part in snowmobiling and ice fishing. He loved to play darts and have a game of cards or tock. The friendships he made throughout the years were many and great, lasting a lifetime. Another favorite past time of his was watching sports, especially hockey, he dearly loved to see the Montreal Canadians lose. He will be forever remembered for his impish grin and his love of carrying on.

Left to mourn his wife Ruby, daughter Vicki (Jon Maurice), grandson Jacob and granddaughter Norah.  Siblings Rita (Bob McKenzie), Marion, Don (Donna), Dave, Terry, Rick (Loretta), Gladys (Loren Campbell) & Sheila (Rick Elliott).  Sisters in Law Audrey (Gilles Cote), Eileen (Derek Fraser), Faye Roberts (Godfrey Parsons), Cindy Arsenault & Judy Patey.  Brother in law Gerald Roberts (Darlene Castle). Also a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends. Predeceased by parents Victor & Bertha Noble, two infant brothers Cecil and Sidney, brother Cliff, brothers in law Wayne Bartlett and Calvin Hillier, sisters in law, Shelley Reid and Anne Hussey & father and mother in law Sidney and Bertha Roberts.

The family would like to thank all the staff at Curtis Memorial hospital who took such good care of Reub. Also much appreciation to everyone for the support given to us during this difficult time. Whether it was visits, prayers, calls food or just a shoulder to cry on, it will never be forgotten.

CULL, MARGARET ELIZABETH (Nee Garrick)

Born March 7th, 1952 in Goderich Ontario, to William and Kathleen Garrick. She became, as she always said, a Newfoundlander in 1970 when she moved home with the love of her life, Norman. They were married on January 15th, 1971 in Great Brehat where the lived and raised their family.

Margaret was loved by so many. She was a devoted Wife, Mother, Nana, Friend and Instructor. Her 3 Angel Girls and her 6 Precious Grandchildren were her entire life. Her heart was as big as the sky, and everyone was allowed to be a part of our Family; she taught her Girls and Grandkiddies to be the same. If you knew her, you loved her! She will watch over each and every one of us. She is now our forever Heavenly Angel. She was the last to be born of her family and the last to arrive for that heavenly Garrick Reunion in the Sky! If we listen we can hear the laughter, the fun and the love they have renewed! The perfect Angel has her own wings.

She leaves to mourn, her loving husband Norman, Three Angel Girls; Lavinia (Jason), Connie (Perry), Norma (Stephen). Her six precious Grandchildren; Skyla, Connor, Dominick, Maggie, Ethan and Rachel.

Also left to mourn are her many loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, family, friends and endless people who cherished her. She will be missed by so many.

NOBLE, CLIFFORD LOOMIS

May 7, 1955 - August 14, 2021

Clifford was born in Great Brehat on May 7, 1955 to Victor and Bertha Noble. He fished all his life from small boats to off shore trawlers, until 2018, when he took ill and had to finish with the fishery. He battles with cancer until his death on August 14, 2021, at the age of 66 years, surrounded by his family.
He leaves to mourn, his partner of 39 years, Judy Patey; 5 brothers and 4 sisters, Rtia (Bob), Marion, Don (Donna), Reub (Ruby), David (Shelly), Gladys (Loren), Rick (Loretta), Sheila (Rick), Terry (Ann); Sisters-in-law, Betty (Roy), Jean (Gordon), Gloria (Kevin); his buddies on the MV Atlantic Enterprise, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Clifford is predeceased by his parents, Bertha and Victor Noble; his infant brothers and his father and mother in law, Nina and Samuel Patey. Cremation has taken place, the funeral will be held on Thursday, August 19, 2021 at 2:00 pm from the St. Anthony United Church with Rev, John Maich officiating (Tentative). CULL, RONALD WILLIAM

March 13, 1939 - December 16, 2020

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a very special man, Ronald (Ron) William Cull. Ron was born in St. Anthony on March 13, 1939 to Uriah and Lavinia (Pilgrim) Cull. Ron lived all of his life in Great Brehat until he moved into the John M. Gray Centre approximately 3 years ago. He was the second of eight children. Ron is predeceased by his daughter Kathleen Cull, his parents Uriah and Lavinia Cull, his brother Wallace Cull and his two sisters Beatrice Cull and Ethel Ward. Ron is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Joyce Cull; his sons: Scott (Veronica) Cull, Morgan Cull (Joanna), and Frank Cull (Darlene); 6 grandchildren: Luke Cull (Shawna), Trevor Elliott (Tara), Robert Cull (Samantha), Rodney Elliott (Katie), Kathy Cull (Marcus), and Jenny Brown; 7 great-grandchildren; his siblings: Pearl Patey, Pearce Cull, Norman (Margaret) Cull, and Carl (Lillian) Cull; and a large number of nieces, nephews, and friends. Ron was a Jack of all trades, from the fishing boat to labor work and everything in between. He was a security guard at the Viking Mall in St. Anthony for 19 years and was a dedicated member of the LOL Lodge in St. Anthony for 50+ years. Ron was a devoted accordion player who truly loved to entertain and play music for any audience. Ron along with his two brothers Norman and Pearce and very close friends Jerry Kean, Will Whyatt, and Will Joe Simmonds were members of a local band called The Pumper Boys. The band entertained many people all over the Northern Peninsula and across Southern Labrador for many years. Ron was an avid volunteer who spent countless hours volunteering for many organizations and seniors homes. Ron contributed greatly to his family, friends, and community. He was a very well known man who always thought of others before himself.

The family extends a heartfelt thank-you to the nursing staff at the John. M. Gray Centre in St. Anthony where Ron resided for almost 3 years. Their professionalism and empathy during Ron’s stay, day in and day out, did not go unnoticed.

PARSONS, RHODA HAZEL (nee Cull)

March 1, 1935 - October 21, 2019

Rhoda Hazel Parsons was born March 1, 1935. To everyone who knew her she was Hazel, to those who held her closest to their hearts she was simply "Mom". Mom's hands were always busy. A lifetime of love and labour were etched into every sinew. They nurtured a family of four and diligently cared for a husband. Mom worked like a Trojan every day, cooked, cleaned, scrubbed, shined and fed whosoever will at her small kitchen table. A creative women by nature, she spent many hours sewing and knitting. She was famous for her quilts, including "the" Christmas Quilt, for which she created her own patterns. Her passion for knitting ensured that many in St. Anthony and beyond had toasty warm hands and feet. Mom was a women with a strong faith, firmly believing the Lord would provide her every need in His time and purpose. Disease may have weakened Mom's physical body but her mind and spirit remained strong and solid. She kept her faith in the One that would see her to her journey's end. On October 21, 2019 at approximately 9:45 am her busy hands became still. Her earthly toil complete "Mom" had entered her eternal rest. Mom will be forever cherished by her children, Phyllis (Ivan), Gail (Mit), Wallace (Maxine), and Penny. Her grandchildren, Sandra, Danielle, Cody, and Jonathan, as well as very special friend Ena Roberts. Hazel was predeceased by her husband Freeman Parsons. Her parents Hayward and Leah Cull. Her brother Augustus and sister Marie. Her in-laws Robert and Beulah, Jehu, Dulcie, and Alfred. Her niece Donna. The funeral service will be held at the Bethel Pentecostal Church in St. Anthony, at 2 pm on Saturday October 26, 2019 with Pastor Jeff Elliott officiating. Visitation will on Thursday October 24th, 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm and Friday October 25th, 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. NOBLE, WILFRED JAMES

September 11, 1944 - March 27, 2019

Passed peacefully away at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in his 74th year, Wilfred James Noble of St. Anthony on March 27, 2019. Born in St. Anthony on September 11, 1944 to Pearce and Bertha Noble of Great Brehat; Wilfred was the first of 7 children. After finishing high school Wilf met the love of his life, Selma Bussey, at a hockey game. They were wed on December 20th, 1967 and shared 52 wonderful years together. Some time after marriage, Wilf and Selma were blessed with two beautiful daughters; Adella and Lisa. Family was the highlight of Wilf’s life but he also loved berry picking, fishing, hunting, and his dog- Pop’s Girl- Coco. Wilf fished all his life but finishing his fishing career with a 16 year stint his brother-in-law Eric in 1992. He was a jack of all trades who instilled values of hard work, selflessness, and independence of his family and friends. He was, and is, deeply loved and fondly mourned. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, his Wife, Selma; Daughters, Adella (Derek) Sweet, Lisa; Grandchildren, Rebecca, Gregory, Brandon, Bailey; Great-granddaughter, Annabelle; Mother, Bertha; Sisters, Doris (Eric), Audrey (Sterling), Pansy (Monty), Patsy (Dwayne), Dennis (Kristen) as well as a large circle of family and friends. Wilf was predeceased by his father, Pearce and Brother, Boyce. Visitation to take place from the Pentecostal Church in St. Anthony on Thursday, March 28, 2019 from 3-4 pm and 7-9 pm and will continue on Friday, March 29, 2019 from 2-4 pm with the family and friends service taking place from 7-9 pm. WARD, ETHEL DULCIE

Born April 15, 1937 in Great Brehat

Passed peacefully away in the presence of her loving family on November 20, 2018 at the age of 81 years. Predeceased by her husband Wallace, baby daughter, parents Uriah and Levinia Cull, and brother Wallace. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are her daughter Shirley (Kevin), son Ronnie (Bonita), daughter Shelley (Paul), Precious grandchildren Sheryl (Darren), Kevin, Steven (Anna), Sara (Chris), Curtis (Megan), and Brooke. Great Grandchildren Parker, Preston and Claire. Also her very, very special niece Nadine (Kiera and Rileigh). Sister Pearl, brothers Ronald (Joyce), Norman (Margaret), Pearce (Pauline), Carl (Lillian), Sister in Laws Marie, Doris (Wilson), Jessie, Ella, Neta and Clara.

SULLEY, EMILY JANE

Emily Jane Sulley (née Cull) was born July 1, 1923 with her twin sister Winnifred to parents Reuben and Elizabeth Cull of Great Brehat. It was here she grew up and at an early age went out into service. On January 20, 1943 she married Robert George Sulley of St. Anthony. On March 23, 2018, surrounded by love, she passed away into the arms of God. She is survived by her daughters Leona Elson (Howard), Linda Loder (Donald); Grandchildren Dwain, Sherri, Sonya, Kenneth, Karla; Great-grandchildren Adam, Brayden, Amy, Victoria, Ashton, and Aaron. She will be lovingly remembered and missed. She was predeceased by her husband Robert in 1981 as well as her brothers Freemonder, Lester, Thomas, Harris and Wesley; and her sisters Mable, Winnifred, and Ursula. Visitation was held from Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home in St. Anthony until the funeral on Sunday, March 26th, 2018 at 2:00 pm from the United Church in St. Anthony with Rev. CARTER, JESSIE

Passed away March 17th, 2018 at the age of 81 years. Jessie was born November 26, 1936 to Myrtle and Alex Simms in St. Anthony Bight. She was the oldest of 7 children. She moved to Great Brehat at a young age to be with the love of her life, John Carter. They were married on November 20th, 1956. They were blessed with 7 children, 15 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. Jessie kept busy over the years caring for her family and working alongside her husband John at whatever work needed to be done, whether it was fishing, cutting wood, or tending to the garden. She will be dearly missed by a large circle of family and friends. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memoires her Children; Fred (Glenice), Dave (Lisa), Lorne (Adell), Wes (Denise), Joyce (Morris), Mae (Colin), Donna (Morley); Brother Hayward Simms; Sisters Elsie, Bessie (Edgar), Juanita; brothers-in-law Charles (Rowena), Keith; Sisters-in-law Olive, Rita; plus 15 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jessie was predeceased by her husband John; Parents Alex and Myrtle Simms; Mother-in-law Mary Carter; Brother and Sister Ross Simms and Nellie Simms; Brothers-in-law Elijah Parrill, Gordon Powell, Don Reid; Sisters-in-law Elizabeth (Minnie) and Minnie. NOBLE, DAPHNE (SIMMS)

Passed away September 19, 2016 at the age of 96 years. Daphne Noble was born to Elias and Mary Simms in St. Anthony Bight in 1920. Daphne grew up in St. Anthony Bight. On August 10, 1938 she married Eric Noble. They made their home in Great Brehat, and together they raised eleven children; nine daughters and two sons. Daphne was a quiet woman who enjoyed being a traditional homemaker. She worked with Eric making the fish, and enjoyed booking, baking, knitting, berry picking, and the gardens. She also enjoyed watching soap operas, especially Coronation Street. On Monday, September 19th she passed peacefully away. She is survived by her children, Marie (Lloyd- deceased), Drene (Basil- deceased), Violet (Absalom), Sadie (Robert – deceased), Elsie (Fred), Raymond (Lillian), Alex (Janice), Alma (son Shawn), Mabel (Hebbert), and Bessie (John- deceased). She is also survived by 37 grandchildren, 67 great-grandchildren, and 34 great-great-grandchildren, and her sister-in-law Bertha Noble. She was predeceased by her husband Eric, infant daughter Sadie, five brothers, and four sisters. Visitation was held at Kerry M. Fillatre’s funeral home in St. Anthony with the family service taking place at the St. Anthony United Church from where the funeral service was held on September 22, 2016 with Rev. Dinesh Gomes and Rev. John McGonigle officiating. Interment followed. Funeral services entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Siobhan Mauger funeral director.
