CULL-SAUNDERS, DOROTHY MAUDE (nee Gillard)

August 2, 1930 - March 29, 2022

Passed peacefully away on March 29, 2022 surrounded by family at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital at the age of 91 years.

Maude was a lady who loved life and church. She surrounded herself with family, friends, and strangers alike. She was well known for her little sayings and quotes by all who had the privilege to know her.

She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, Children, Freeman (Glenda), Larry (Bessie), Wesley (Charlene), Ada (Donald) Weir, Morris (Josephine), Cindy (Hughie) Crewe, Winnie (David) Power; Grandson, raised as her own, Richard (Tina); Stepson, Stanley (Donna) Simms; Son-in-law, Frank MacWhirter; Sister-in-law, Verna Gillard, 21 Grandchildren, 16 Great-grandchildren, 1 Great-great-grandchild as well as a large circle of extended family and friends.

Maude was predeceased by her husband, Lester Cull (1982); Second Husband, John Saunders; Daughter, Bessie MacWhirter; Daughter-in-law, Myrtle Cull; Parents, Frederick and Bessie Gillard; Brothers, Baxter and Frederick Gillard Jr.; and Sisters, Pearl Keefe, Stella Compton, and Lucy Tetford.

Public visitation to take place at the Apostolic Faith Church in Englee on Friday, April 1, 2022 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will take place on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at 2:00 pm with Pastor George Burton officiating. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard, Funeral Director.

ADAMS, DOROTHY AGNES (Nee Burden)

April 1st, 1939 - August 10, 2021

Dorothy was born on April 1st, 1939 to Harrison and Hazel Burden of St. Lunaire-Griguet. She met and married George Adams of Main Brook on August 23rd, 1957. Together they raised 6 children, 5 Daughters and 1 Son. She enjoyed her knitting and quilting very much and was a very hard working woman, who was also eager to provide a meal to anyone. She was faithful to her church and most of all devoted to her Lord and Saviour, who she served for many years. Her true pride and joy was her grandchildren Great grandchildren, and Great-great Grand children. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends and all who knew her. SHe leaves to mourn, her Husband, George Adams; Daughters, Gwen (Scott) Patey, Jane (Paul) Tulk, Lona (Edward) Hedderson, Gertrude (Wade) Decker, Sue-Ann (Moody) Normore; Son ,Harrison Adams (Triffie Patey); Sisters, Netta (Hayward) Smith, Vonnie (Glenn) Piercey, Lois (Steven) Smith, Joan (Bernard) Humby; Brother Wagner Burden (Sherry); Grandchildren, Rhonda, Michelle (Danny), Leroy (Kassandra), Amanda (Stewart), Gavin (Leanne), Dayna, Amy (Dino), Craig (Jena), Ian (Tiffany), Joshua (Samantha); Great Grandchildren, Quynn, Lainey, Ella, Alannh, Jasmine, Tanya, Brooke, Chloe, Ethan, Emma, Addie, Liam, Aiden, Austin, and Alex; Great-great Grandchildren, Emmerson, and Paisley, as well as a large circle of extended family and friends. Dorothy is predeceased by her Parents Harrison and Hazel Burden, Brothers Ralph, Hayward, Roland, and Allen. Private visitation to be held from the Pentecostal Faith Tabernacle in St. Lunaire-Griquet on Saturday, August 14, 2021 from 7-8 pm and on Sunday, August 15, 2021 from 10am - 12 pm. The funeral will take place on Sunday, August 15, 2021 at 2:00pm with Pastor Jeff Elliott officiating. Interment to follow in the St. Lunaire-Griquet Pentecostal Cemetery.

ANDERSON, DOROTHY EMMA

May 11, 1936 – November 30, 2018

Passed peacefully away surrounded by her loving family on November 30th at the age of 82. Dorothy Emma Anderson (nee Decker) was born in Lower Woods near Cook’s Harbour on May 11, 1936 to Garland and Dorcas Decker (nee Downer). She was one of nine children. On August 9, 1956 she married Gower Anderson of L’Anse Aux Meadows and together they raised six children and one grandchild. Dorothy opened the first grocery store in L’Anse Aux Meadows in 1956 which she operated for 30 years. Among her many accomplishments was her desire for education, so in 1992 she went back to school and completed her high school diploma. From Tupperware representative to volunteering with Parks Canada as a Viking, she showed her love for meeting new people. She spent countless hours berry picking and caring for her flower garden from which she lovingly shared her flowers with everyone. Her cabin, friends, and family were very dear to her heart. Her infectious smile was one of her greatest traits for which she will always be remembered. Dorothy leaves to mourn her daughters Bernice (George), Bonnie, Colleen (Eric); sons Gerald (Norma), Kevin (Donna), Kirby (Lisa); grandchildren Kristopher (Amanda), Tara, Kathryn (Eric), Elizabeth, Kyle and Meghan; sisters Myrtle, Bessie (Seymour); brothers-in-law Dorman (Rose), Maxwell (Gladys); sister-in-law Juanita Decker as well as a large circle of extended family and friends.  She was predeceased by her parents Garland and Dorcas; brothers Reginald, Maxwell, Harold, Douglas & Lloyd; sister Margaret; sisters-in-law Ivy, Deborah, Frances & Helen; brothers-in-law Wilfred, Ross, Alfred & Job. Thank you to all the staff at the John M Gray Center for the incredible care and support they provided during her time at the home. Visitation will be held at the Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home from 2-4 and 7-9 on Saturday, December 1st. Flowers graciously accepted or donations can be made in her memory to a charity of one’s choice. Funeral service will take place 1:30 pm Sunday, December 2nd at St. Mary’s Anglican Church with Rev. Katie Taylor-Flynn officiating. Interment to follow at the cemetery in L’Anse aux Meadows. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard, Funeral Director.

MAHAR, DOROTHY THERESA

Passed peacefully away at the John M. Gray Center on the 27th day of October 2012. Mrs. Dorothy Theresa Mahar of Bird Cove was in her 79th year. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her husband Patrick; sons Stewart(Bernice); Pat(Nancy); Rex(Gwen); Gearld; Tom(Verna); Danny; Boyd; daughters Marina(Victor); Caroline(Bill); Georgina(John); Hazel(Stan); Linda(Blake); Hilda; sisters and brothers Geraldine(Edmond); Eudora(John); Iona(Mose); Rowena(Melvin); dorm(Marie); Marcel(Wavey); twenty grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren and many other special family and friends . She was predeceased by her parents Caroline and Thomas Caines. Visitation was held at the Our Lady of Grace church in Bird Cove, NL from which the funeral mass followed at 2:00pm on the 30th day of October 2012 with Father Biju Anthony officiating.
