RANDELL, NORMAN HEDLEY

January 9,1934 - January 18, 2025

Passed peacefully away at the Health Science Centre in St. John’s surrounded by his family members.

Proceeded by his parents, Lucy and Mark Randell; His wife, Dora Randell , His sons : Graham, Bedford, and Roger, Sisters: Stella Compton, Cassie Weir, Brothers: Darius (Roy) Randell, Alfred Tucker, Grandson: Jason Noonan

Norman grew up in Williamsport White Bay and later lived in Englee and Roddickton and lived the remainder of his life in St. John’s. He was a carpenter by trade, and built many houses and buildings throughout his lifetime. He worked in the Lumber Camp he was also a fisherman and worked in the Woods . He was a store owner who very generously open up his store in the early morning for customers whether they had money or not. He enjoyed singing hymns and playing the mouth organ. He enjoyed moose hunting right up in his late eighties. He was very spiritual and his greatest love was reading the Bible and reciting Bible verses. He loved having family prayers together.

Leaving to mourn his children; Glenna , Mark(Marie), Charia (Pierre), Lucy(Roger), Marcel, Grandchildren; Dawn(Corey), Jocelyn, Charlene(Jamie), Peter , Roger(Jaz), Kaleigh, Jordan , Also brother Wilbert Randell(Margret) and Sterling Randell(Jackie), Sister in law: Etta Mae (Eugene),, Annie May and Bessie, Brother in Law: Lee(Loretta), John, Lloyd, Several Great and Great Great Children and numerous amount of Nieces and Nephews., Special nephew Don Randell.

Visitations will be held 1 pm to 5pm on Friday 24th, 2025 at the Bide Arm Apostolic Faith Church, The funeral Service will be held from the church at 10:30 am on Saturday 25th 2025.

Internment to follow at the Apostolic cemetery in Roddickton

RANDELL, YVONNE SYBIL

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Yvonne Sybil Randell who left us on January 18, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. Yvonne was born on May 19, 1944, at Roddickton to Gideon and Grace Hancock. Also, to this union was born: Fred, Willis, Stanley, Frank, Ford, Don, Winnie, Lillian, Ruby, Nancy, Jean, Barb, Dennis & Kirby.

She moved to Mount Pearl at the age of 18 and married Gorden Randell, May 25, 1962. They had one son, Jarvis, the love of her life. Then to Grand Falls where Gordon pastored and then to Birchy Bay where he continued pastoring for approximately 20 years at the Apostolic Faith Church. After the passing of her husband, she moved back home to Roddickton in 2006 and in 2010 she went to live and care for her brother Willis and moved into the Grace Sunset Cottages in May 2018, until God called her home.

JACOBS, CLARICE

Clarice Elva Jacobs was born Nov. 2, 1934 on Horse Islands, NL to George & Helen (Rideout) Compton.  She was one of 5 children in the family.  At the age of 16 she and the family moved to Roddickton.  On June 27, 1953 she married Donald Jacobs and together they raised a family of 5 and made their lifelong home in Roddickton.  Clarice spent most of her life as a hardworking homemaker in every aspect. 

Later in life she acquired employment at the local crab plant – for which she was very proud and grateful.  She was deeply devoted to God and her church.  She was a devoted Sunday School teacher for a number of years and left a great impact on her students.  She was one of the early members of the Ladies’ Charity Group and remained a member for many years.  She enjoyed the fellowship & socializing with other ladies. 

She enjoyed knitting, sewing, and embroidery – especially quilt blocks – aiming for nothing less than perfection in her work.

Clarice also loved the great outdoors: cook-ups, berry picking, trouting.  She could spend hours casting out her line – whether she caught a trout or not.

She loved her children, grandchildren & great grandchildren dearly.  She passed peacefully away at Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on Nov. 9th, 2024.  She leaves to mourn her passing - son:  Clyde (Karen);  daughters: Wavey (Wilfred);  Sharon (Allan);  Lori. 

Grandchildren:  Lorinda, Lindy, Diana, Kelly, Michael, Melanie, Olise, Nneka, Emeka.

Great-grandchildren: Sophie, Meredith, Emelia, Diego, Rylan, Hadley, Liam, Mia, Oscar & Cassian.

Predeceased by: husband Donald, baby son: George, and grandson: Robert.  Her memory will live on!

Visitation is being held at the Apostolic Faith Church in Roddickton NL Beginning Wednesday, November 12th and continuing through to the funeral service at 11am on Thursday November 13th with Pastor Michael Ivany officiating. Burial will follow the service in the Church Community Cemetery.

WILCOX, VIOLA

Mrs. Viola Flossie Wilcox of Roddickton, NL. She was born in Hampton, NL on August 3, 1931 to Walter and Matilda Fillier. She has three brothers: Ralph (deceased), Kenneth (deceased) and Jerry (Ontario); four sisters: Bessie (deceased), Elma (deceased), Sylvia (deceased), and Ella (La Scie, NL).

It was on August 26, 1950, she married the love of her life Harvey John Wilcox at Wild Cove, Canada Bay, NL. Shortly after, they moved to Roddickton where she raised her family of three sons: Raymond (deceased), Winston, and Leander; four daughters: Priscilla, Ruby (deceased), Belinda, and Angela.

She was a very family person who loved to bake, knit, especially knitting quilts. In her earlier years, she did work at the Englee fish plant. She learned how to make bread when she was ten years old. She became a Christian in 1958 and faithfully served the Lord thereafter.

It was on October 25, 2024 at 12:30 PM she passed from this life to reap her heavenly reward. Left to share and cherish her memories are her

CANNING, LILLIAN MARY YVONNE

January 9, 1940 - May 3, 2024

It is with broken hearts that the family of Lillian Mary Yvonne Canning announces her passing at Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony, NL on May 03, 2024, at the age of 84 years. Lillian passed away peacefully into the loving arms of God, surrounded by her loving family and will forever be remembered for the loving wife, mom and grandmother that she was. On January 22, 1959 she married her soulmate, to that union came seven beautiful children. Lillian gave her heart to the Lord in August 1958 and faithfully served him with all her heart and soul and committed her time as a very active member of the choir for 29 years, head of the Sunday School department for 17 years, president of the ladies group for years and also a Sunday school teacher.

Lillian was the most devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who was well-loved by all who had the honour to know her. She worked tirelessly to give her family what they needed. Lillian worked at the local fish plant while raising seven children and taking care of her household. She loved to knit, sew, bake and cook. Her family always looked forward to receiving one of her delicious carrot cake or her homemade pickles.

She leaves to mourn with a lifetime of precious memories her husband Wilson Canning. Daughters; Pamela(Perry), Karen, Jean (Scott), Darlene (Morris). Sons; Wayne(Louie), David (Joyce), Morgan (Janice), Travis (Nola) Grandson/son. 17 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 3 foster grandchildren. Also left to mourn is her darling sister Ruby Sacrey, her brother-in-laws; Martin Canning, Earl (Hazel); Sister-in-laws, Pearl (Calvin), Madonna, Joan(Grant) as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

Lillian is predeceased by her parents Theophilus and Milford Hopkins, Sisters Bessie Fillier and brother-in-law Gilbert Fillier, Daisy Hopkins and brother-in-law Gordan Hopkins. Also Sister-in-law Phyllis Cassell, Susie Canning; brother-in-laws, Harrison Canning, Winston Fillier, Wilbourn Fillier and Albert Cassell. And her son-in-law Melvin Pilgrim.

Public visitation to take place from the Englee Apostolic Faith Church on Sunday, May 5, 2024, and Monday, May 6, 2024 from 7-9 pm. The funeral service will take place on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Hewlett officiating. Interment to follow.

CANNING, SUSIE

April 22, 1943 – October 9, 2023

It is with great sadness and broken hearts that the family of Susie Nita Shirley Canning announce her passing at Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony, NL on October 9, 2023 at the age of 80. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family.

Susie will be remembered for her love for her family and her kindness to everyone. She married the love of her life on June 28, 1961 and they had 5 beautiful children together. She gave her heart to the Lord on July 14, 1974 and was very active in the Apostolic Faith church. She was a member of the choir for 45 years, leader of the youth choir, president of the ladies group and a Sunday school teacher for many years.

She was an exceptional wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and had so much love for everyone. She worked very hard for her family and made sure they had everything they needed and wanted. She loved to knit, sew, crochet, bake and cook. She was an awesome seamstress and could make anything from wedding/graduation dresses, quilts or snowmobile seat covers. She made wedding/ birthday/retirement cakes for most everyone in the Englee area. She loved to spend time with her husband berry-picking, gardening and splitting and packing in the wood.

Susie is predeceased by her parents Gordon and Daisy Hopkins; parents-in-law Ivan and Myrtle Canning; Daughter Baby Canning; Sister Betty Randell; Sister-in-law Phyllis Cassell; Brother-in-laws Harrison Canning, Albert Cassell, Winston Fillier & Wilbourn FIllier.

Visitation will take place at the Apostolic Faith Church in Englee on Friday and Saturday October 13 & 14, 2023 at 2:00-4:00 PM & 7:00-9:00 PM. Family Service on Saturday 7:00 PM. Memorial service will take place on Sunday October 15, 2023 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Kirby Hewlett officiating. Interment to follow at the Apostolic Faith Cemetery.

JACOBS, DONALD GREY

June 4, 1932 - October 9, 2023

Donald Grey Jacobs was born on June 4, 1932 to James & Violet Jacobs of Hampden, NL. He was one of 15 children that completed the family. At the age of 8, Donald & the Jacobs family moved to Roddickton. As a young man, he met Clarice Compton, whom he married on June 27, 1953. From their marriage, 5 children were born.

During his earlier years, Donald worked as a logger, then was employed as a mechanic with the local Dept. of Highways - from which he retired after 26 years of service. Following retirement, he continued to work with  Canada Bay Construction in Roddickton, with his long time fellow worker, Willis Hancock. He also continued to do repairs for local residents on their engines & motors. Donald seemed to have a deep & loving fascination with motors of any kind... whether new or Antique! His yard captured the attention of many visitors and tourists to Roddickton because of the various motors on display. Although he shared stories of the hardships of working as a logger, he enjoyed cutting firewood until his early 80's.

Donald passed peacefully away on Monday, October 9th at Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Clarice; children- Clyde (Karen), Wavey (Wilfred), Sharon (Allan) and Lori (Andrew);  9 grandchildren & 10 great-grandchildren; and siblings- Edna (Jacobs), Calvin, Winston, Ellis, McKinley & Hilda (Canning).

He is predeceased by infant son George & grandson Robert; and siblings: Ellen (Pittman), Wilfred, Claude, Llewellyn, Harold, Rudy (Fillier), Murray & Ross.

Visitation will take place from the Apostolic Faith Church in Roddickton, on Thursday, October 12, 2023 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. The funeral will take place from the Apostolic Faith Church in Roddickton on Friday, October 13, 2023 at 11:00 am with Pastor Chris Hewlett officiating. Interment to follow.

REID, ELAMORE FRANCIS

May 13, 1949 - August 25, 2023

Elamore Francis Reid passed on August 25, 2023 at the Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony, at the age of 74 years.

Elamore is the son of the late Esther (Reid) Compton, and step father Noah Compton. He leaves to mourn his stepfather, Noah; two siblings: Kevin Welcher and Vivian Compton as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. 

There will be a memorial service held at the Apostolic church in Roddickton to be announced at a later date.

February 14, 1930 - January 26, 2023

Maureen Hancock passed January 26, 2023 at the age of 92 years.

Maureen leaves to cherish memories; her Sons: Gordon (Marion) Hancock, Lee (Dianne) Hancock, Kevin Hancock, Shawn (Jennifer) Hancock; Daughters: Bessie (Ed) Pilgrim, Shirley Pilgrim, Darlene Hancock (Rob), Hilda Hancock (Danny), Donna (Craig) Canning, Michelle (Ross) Randell; Sister-in-law: Pearl (Hancock) Taylor, 14 grandchildren, 2 foster grandkids, 21 great grandchildren, and a large circle of relatives and friends.

Visitation took place from the Apostolic Faith Church in Roddickton from where the funeral service was held on Monday, January 30 2023 with Rev. Rene Cassell officiating. Interment followed.
