Passed away February 24th, 2019 from the Charles S. Curtis Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 68 years. She leaves to mourn with a lifetime of memories, her Children,  Judy (Tim), Tim (Bev), Wendy (Brent); Grandchildren, Alex, Jett, Brian, Danielle, Rebecca; Brothers,  Hezekiah, Tobias, Eugene, Ivan; Sisters,  Gladys, Betty, Karen (Jim), Glenda (Nath), June (Will); Sister & Brother In Law,  Margaret & Charles Johnson; as well as a larger circle of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Goldie was predeceased by her Husband, Ford Roberts;  Father, Jonathan Pilgrim;  Mother, Annie Pilgrim;  Father In Law, Walter Roberts; and  Mother In Law, Una Roberts. Visitation was held from the Salvation Army Church in St. Anthony from where the funeral took place on Thursday, February 28th, 2019 at 2:00 pm with Captain Rideout officiating. SMITH, SCOTT

SMITH  SCOTT  -  At his residence in St Andrews, peacefully passed away, in the presence of his family, close friends and special grand-cat, Theodore Roosevelt. Scott Smith, husband of Marie (Beaufield) Smith, was born in St. Anthony NL, the son of the late John & Anna (Dawe) Smith. Scott worked as the Director of Human Resources with Grenfell Regional Health Services in St Anthony until he retired in 2005. Upon retiring he bought a house in St Andrews, and he divided his time between NL and NB, allowing him to spend equal time with his girls. Surviving in addition to his wife, Marie, are his three daughters Lee Smith-Powell (Frank) of St. Andrews, NB, Lynn Rumbolt (Shawn) of St. Anthony, NL, and Krista Armstrong (Mike Goodyear) of Calgary, AB; three granddaughters; Hannah Rumbolt, Emma Rumbolt, and Erika Powell, step father, John Shenk  of Lancaster, Penn, U.S.A., many relatives and friends. Scott was blessed to have had his brother in law, Guy Beaufield, and sister in law, Juanita Beaufield, whom he referred to as an angel, move in and help care for him over the past four months. Their love and devotion allowed Scott to remain at home during his illness. Scott was predeceased by his brother, Perry Johnson, and his biological mother, Dorothy Shenk. Thank you to Archdeacon John Matheson, for the many prayers and words of comfort and thank you to Theresa McLeod, RN, for the exceptional care, kindness and compassion. By Scott’s request cremation will take place. There will be no service at this time. His family will take him to his place of rest to be buried with his parents, John and Anna, in the Anglican Church Cemetery in Raleigh, NL, this summer. It is with great sadness the family of Graydon Toope announce his passing on February 21, 2019. He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 40 years Ivy Toope; son Louis; daughter Lynette; precious grandson Jade; sisters - Cecilia(Morgan); Virginia (Baxter); Brothers - Ronald (Phyllis); Stanley (Kay); Rendell (Peggy); Gary (Linda); Alfred (Linda); Clyde (Elizabeth); Mother-in-law Gladys Gibbons as well as a large circle of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Passed peacefully away on February 20, 2019 at The John M. Gray Centre, in the presence of family, Pearl Anderson (nee Carpenter) of St. Anthony, in her 87th year. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her children Jim (Ann), Audrey (Tabi), and Dwight; grandchildren Amy (Gerry), Terri (Ian), Khatija, and Yasmin; great-grandson Reece; sister and best friend Grace Davis (Wallace); brother Bill Carpenter (Ruby); and other relatives and friends. Predeceased by husband Alfred, parents William and Dorothy Carpenter, and daughter-in-law Judy. A special thank you to the staff at The John M. Gray Centre for their care over the years. COMPTON, OLIVE ADELAIDE ANETTA (nee HOPKINS)

January 1, 1934 - February 20, 2019

It is with great sadness that the Family of Olive Adelaide Anetta Compton nee Hopkins, announces her passing with her family by her side at Western Memorial Hospital on Feb 20, 2019, at the age of 85. Born on Jan 1st 1934 to the late Tammer and Jonas Hopkins of Englee. On March 25, 1953 she married Allan Compton. Olive will be remembered for her love of gardening. Her favourite pastime was going for a evening ride around town. She was a life long member of the Salvation Army Corps and Home League of Roddickton and Englee. Most of all she loved talking to her children daily to see how they are doing. She loved her Family very, very much. Her life will be forever cherished by her children Joan (Tony), Yvonne, Bernice (Edmund), Jean (Harold), Clyde (Babe), Lesa (Fergie), Connie (Jeff) ; Daughter in-law Sharon; 14 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren as well as numerous family, dear friends and her very Special Friend, Rudy. She is predeceased by her loving husband, Allan and son, Robert. Special thanks to her friends and staff at the Dear Lake Manor over the past 2 years. The Family would like to Thank the many Doctors, especially Dr. Ahmed and Dr. Fudge and staff from all the floors and ICU and Palliative Care at Western Memorial Hospital who attended to our Mother. Visitation will take place at Salvation Army Corps in Englee on Feb 22, 2019 at 7 pm. Funeral Services will take place on Feb. 23, 2019 at 11 am. COLBOURNE, FORD ERNEST

August 8, 1950 – February 15, 2019

Ford was born in St. Anthony on August 8th, 1950 to Linda and George Colbourne. He married Rita Roberts on November 17, 1972 and together they raised one child, Todd, who gave them their only Grandchild, Adam. He worked with the town of St/ Anthony for 38 years and enjoyed every minute. He retired in 2014. For was dedicated to his family and loved spending time with his grandson, Adam. He loved spending time at his cabin, the more people that dropped by, the happier he was. He was a friend to everyone. He leaves to mourn with fond memories, his Wife, Rita; Son, Todd (Tracey); Grandson, Adam; Brothers, Wes (Elizabeth), Oscar (Patricia), Alvin (Carol), Derrick (Donna); Sister, Denise (Jim); Sister-in-law, Agnes; Brother-in-law, Melvin Roberts (Irene); Sister-in-law, Ella (Carl), Nellie (Les), Debbie (Ray), and Effie. Ford was predeceased by his parents, George and Linda Colbourne; Brother, Warrick; Brother-in-laws, Willie Roberts, Tobias Simms; Sister-in-laws, Ruby (Calmen) Decker. COOMBS, STEDMAN

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Stedman Coombs announce his passing on February 18, 2019 in his 84th year. He leaves to mourn with fond and wonderful memories, his loving wife of 63 years, Vivian Coombs; children Irene (Ray), Hiriam (Pam), Melvin (Connie), Rosline, Barry (Ruby), Rick (Belinda), Lorne (Tina) and Leon (Dale); grandchildren Dara, Melvin Jr, Ocean, Terry, Tammy (Phil), Terry, Riley, Jenna, Maxwell, Callie; 11 great-children, sisters Effie, Dorcas and Dulcie; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents John and Leah Coombs, mother-in-law Eva Coombs and father –in-law Lambert Coombs, son Terry, grandchildren Denise, Mason and David, sisters Bernadette White, Emily Applin and brothers Leander, Stewart and Gerald Coombs. WAY, ANNE NORA JUANITA (nee Lavalee)

December 17, 1965 – February 14, 2019
Anne Way was born on December 17, 1965 in Flowers Cove to Paul and Lucy Lavallee. She grew up here and on December 18, 1996 she married Bryce Way. In 2002 they welcomedFebruary their daughter Ashlee into their home. Anne enjoyed life, had a warm and welcoming smile She passed away on Thursday, February 14th, 2019 at home at the age of 53 years. Anne will always be remembered by her husband Bryce, daughter Ashlee, her parents Paul and Lucy Lavallee and her mother-in law Sadie, as well as her sisters Gloria (Keith), Genny (Tony),and Millie (Craig), her brothers Bill (Caroline), Brian (Shirley), Micheal (Kit) and Emile (Arleen). She will also be remembered by a large circle of in-laws, nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her brother Lewis Lavalle. Anne will be sadly missed. NEWMAN, FREEMAN ARCHIBALD

Passed away February 14th, 2019 at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 90 years. He leaved to cherish memories, his wife of 61 years, Gretta; Son, Shawn (Wavey) Newman; Daughter Darlene Newman (Lorne); 3 Grandchildren; 2 Great-grandchildren, and a large circle of relatives and friends. Visitation was held from the Apostolic Faith Church in Bide Arm. The funeral was held on Monday, February 18th, 2019 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Howard Canning officiating. Interment followed. SIMMS, SHIRLEY

January 8, 1942 February 13, 2019

Passed peacefully away on February 13th, 2019 at the Western Regional Memorial Hospital in Corner Brook at the age of 77 years. Shirley Simms was born in Green Island Cove, NL on January 8, 1942 to Leander & Minnie Mitchelmore. She was one of nine children. She met and later married Sterling Simms on October 23, 1958. Together while living in St. Anthony, NL they raised three children; two sons, Terry & Morgan and one daughter, Sybil. Shirley, while being at home raising her family took care of the Bookkeeping of their family businesses for 45 years to assist in providing for their family. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her sons, Terry (Donna), Morgan (Verla); Daughter, Sybil (Glenn); Grandchildren Christa (Darryl); Jason (Angelina); Kristopher & Shannon; Great-Grandchildren, Karli; Kaeden; Santiago; Isabella & Dominick; Sisters, Sybil (Lloyd) Piercey & Inga Coombs; Brothers, Primus (Maysie); Baxter (Melinda) & Harvey (Marilyn) Mitchelmore; Sister-in-law, Ruby Mitchelmore as well as a large circle of extended family and friends. Shirley was predeceased by her Husband, Sterling Simms; Parents, Leander & Minnie Mitchelmore; Brothers, Howard Truman Mitchelmore; and Sister, Merona Gibbons. Visitation was held at the Pentecostal Church in St. Anthony from where the funeral was held on Monday, February 18th, 2019 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Jeff Elliott officiating. Interment followed.
