Dulcie (Simms) Cull was born to Harrison and Annie (Saunders) Simms on June 27, 1934 in St. Anthony Bight. On March 5, 1952 she married Maxwell Cull of Brehat. They lived in St. Anthony Bight and raised their family. Dulcie was a hardworking woman who took care of her family as well as working at FPI for more than 35 years. She was a faithful member of the United Church, a Life Member of UCW and a member of the LOBA. Dulcie lived her life in St. Anthony Bight until illness forced her to take up residence at the John M. Gray Centre where she passed peacefully away the early morning of January 7th, 2018 at the age of 83 years. She will be sadly missed. Dulcie is survived by her children Stanley (Donna), Joan, Will, Holly (Vernon), Ken (Sue), Danny (Angela), Todd (Lisa), and Trent (Brandi). She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild, her sister in law Maisie and brother in law Melvin and many other family members and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Maxwell, grandson Aaron, her parents Harrison and Annie, Brother Clem, Sister Ivy and chosen sisters Rebecca and Bessie Pilgrim. Visitation was held from Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home in St. Anthony until the funeral on January 11th, 2018 at 2:00 pm from the St. Anthony United Church with Rev. John McGonigle officiating. Interment followed. Born in William’s Harbour, Labrador on August 10, 1934, passed away January 8th, 2018 at the John M. Gray Centre in St. Anthony at the age of 83 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his Daughter Lorraine (Maurice); Grandchildren Melanie and Maria; Brothers Freeman (Rosalind), Howard (Dorothy), George (Louise); Sisters Laura and Clara, brother-in-law Fred Sooley, Sisters-in-law Valerie Russell and Rita Rowe, as well as a large circle of family and friends. BLAKE, EVERETT
Passed away December 26th, 2017 from the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 91 years. According to the Government, Everett was born in Spillard’s Cove (now called Straitsview) on September 22nd, 1926. However, it is more likely that he had been born a year earlier (in 1925). The Government decision was based on Census information, because birth records had been lost- perhaps because of fire. This decision was made when Everett was well on in life, as is often the case when birth records have been lost. Everett set his hand to whatever work was available. He fished, hunted, and trapped. During the winter, he was busy knitting and mending cod traps. He became a good carpenter and built a number of schools and many homes. On Sundays, he walked down to the Church and rang the bell (which meant that all the children went off to Sunday school). It was when Everett had went to Raleigh to fish that he met Jessie Bessey. The two celebrated 65 years of marriage together. They grew a new branch of the Blake family tree which now includes nearly four dozen descendants. He leaves to mourn his wife, Jessie Blake; Sons, Dennis (Donna), Garry (Betsy), Cyril, and Hedley; Daughters, Cindy (Jim), Dale, and Velma (Barry); Brother Wilson; Sister-in-law Marie (Widow of Brother Garfield) as well as 14 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren, and a large circle of extended family and friends. Everett was predeceased by his parents, James and Martha Blake; Brothers, Isaac, Ruben, Garfield, and Harrison as well as Sisters, Lucy, Mary Evelyn, and Rosie. CUNARD, STEPHANIE AYN
Stephanie Ayn Cunard (Aunt Stephie), age 31, found peace on Friday December 1, 2017. Stephanie was born in St. Anthony, on May 11, 1986 (Mother’s Day), to Ann Marie and Eric Cunard. She has a sister Sara and a brother Stephen. She graduated High School from Viking Trail Academy and went to Academy Canada in Corner Brook to complete her diploma as a hair stylist. She excelled in her work and will be sadly missed by her loyal customers. Even though her life was full of darkness her contagious smile could light up a room. She found a great love, Kirby House and daughter Sarah who filled the void in her life. Some of her greatest joys in life were her dogs Chloe and Buddy, her nieces Madalyn, Alex, and her family including her Grandmother Madeline Skinner and Special Aunt Elsie Cunard. She was surrounded by a large circle of extended family and friends that loved her very much. She lost her battle with mental illness, not because she didn’t put up a great fight, but because she couldn’t fight anymore. In her own words, her tattoo stated, “My story hasn’t ended.” The story of Stephanie Ayn Cunard has not ended.
