HEDDERSON, FRANCES CAROL

December 25, 1924 to March 16, 2016
It is with great sadness that the family of Frances Carol (Patey) Hedderson announces her passing on March 16, 2016 at the Charles Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 91 years. Frances was born and raised in St. Anthony, and she went on to be a Teacher in North West River, and then Noddy Bay. It was in Noddy Bay that she met her husband Garland. They settled in Hay Cove and raised a family of twelve. Her most joyful moments were when all the family was home sitting around the kitchen table. Frances loved going to Church,

MOORES, MARY VICTORIA

Passed peacefully away surrounded by her family on July 26th Mrs. Mary Victoria Moore in her 79th year. Mary is survived by her children Matt(Sandra), Ethel(Brad), Alma, Bruce, Kay(Dennis), Arlene(Henry), Harris(Tish), Randy(Ruby) and Dennis(Tracey), 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her mother Alma, brother Wallace(Rhea), sisters Lettie. Gladys(Wayne) and Linda(Jim) as well as nieces, nephews and a host of other family members and friends.She was predeceased by her husband Jacob Wilson Moores, her father George W. Diamond, mother-in-law Rachel Rose, Brother-in-laws Marmaduke and Albert Edwin Moores. Visitation was held at the United Church in Flowers Cove, from which the funeral service was held at 11:00am on Tuesday July 29th. LODER, DORA

Passed away peacefully at home after a lengthy illness, with her family by her side, Mrs. Dora Loder of Cooks Harbour in her 84th year.  Left to mourn are daughters Marilyn (partner Ted Blanchard) and Ida (husband Fred Berry), brother Wilfred Elliott, Sister in law Phyllis Loder, many nieces, nephews and friends especially Wavey Loder who provided many years of support.  Dora was predeceased by Husband Harvey Loder. Visitation was held at the Wesley United church in Cooks Harbour, From which the funeral service was conducted at 2:00pm on Wednesday July 23rd with Pastor Gus Pendleton officiating. Burial followed the funeral at the Cooks Harbour United Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Wesley United Church, Cook's Harbour. PYNN, ADA DAPHNE

Ada Pynn was born on may 11, 1933 in St. Lunaire to Thomas and Deborah Bussey. she married Gilbert Pynn of Quirpon on Feb. 27th 1953, they were blessed with 4 Children; 2 daughters and 2 sons, who made them proud grandparents to 3 grandsons and 1 grand daughter. Ada worked a short time with FPI. she was a loving  Wife, Mother, grandmother. she was a very Caring and fun loving person who loved to entertain and bring smiles to peoples faces. .on June 28th 2014 she passed peacefully away at the john m. gray center surrounded my her family . she will be missed by a large circle of family and friends. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her two daughters Elizabeth (Wes), Donna(Don), two sons John (Joyce), and Rick (Glenys), five Grandchildren Cory, Chris, Vanessa, Justin and Michael, Six Great Grandchildren , Two sisters Mable and Betty, Three Brothers Charles, David, and Fred and a large circle of nieces, nephews, and family as well as friends. She was predeceased by her husband Gilbert, Parents Thomas and Deborah Bussey, Sister Effie, June and Nina and Brother Don. The visitation was held first at the funeral home in St. Anthony and Concluded at Central United Church in Quirpon. From which the funeral service took place at 2:00pm on Thursday July 3rd, 2014 with Rev. Gus Pendleton officiating. HILLIER, MINNIE ERMA


Minnie Erma Hillier was born Nov. 24, 1916 to Thomas and Sarah Ann(Pynn) Pilgrim. Minnie shared her younger years with five other siblings Ralph, Leonard, Ambrose, James, Gladys, and Winnie. Minnie married her first love William Quinton and together they had five children Scott, Hope Wilson, Joy and Bill. After Williams passing, Minnie soon found the second love of her life Llewellyn Hillier. Minnie and Llewellyn married Oct. 10, 1947 and together were blessed with eight children, Lindy, Wavey, Glenda, Wally, Don, Ernest, Elvis, and Pam. They enjoyed their life together and surrounded by all there children. The joy of Minnie’s life was being able to watch her children grow into wonderful adults. Minnie lost Llewellyn the love she shared for forty-five years on December 26th, 1992. Minnie was a hard worker and although it was difficult at times raising thirteen children she made the most of it all, but she also found time to give to her community in many ways. She had talents and with raising thirteen children she learned how to become a wonderful seamstress and cook. Among many other things she was a business lady and was self employed for years. Minnie was a big supporter of her church and carried her banner with honour. She filled the rolls of acting sergeant major, solist and Sunday school teacher and also the Y.P.S.M. She was the very first one to be dedicated in the Griquet Corps , Minnie was always a dedicated church member and will be missed and remembered by her family, relatives and friends. Minnie peacefully away at the John M. Gray Center on the 13th of June 2014 at the age of 97 years. Minnie Erma Hillier of Griquet leaves to mourn her loving children Hope(Keith), Scott(Nellie), Wilson(Evelyn), Joy(Marvin), Bill, Wavey(Ronald), Glenda(Norman), Wally(Herman), Don(Evelyn), Ernest(Kenny), Elvis(Ellen), and Pam(Asner), a large circle of Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, and Great Great Grandchildren, as well  as a large circle of friends. She was predeceased by her first husband William Quinton and second husband Llewellyn Hillier, Son Lindy HIlier, Grandson Jim Hillier, Granddaughter Melanie Fields. Visitation was at the funeral home on June 14th 2014 and continued on at the Anglican church in Dark Tickle on June 15th 2014 from which the funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on the 16th day of June 2014 with Major Dinzel Baggs and Rev. Mark Wilkoff officiating. Burial will follow in the Anglican Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. SIMMS, REGINALD NOEL


January 15, 1928 – May 31, 2014
St. Anthony, NL

On Saturday, May 31, 2014, at the age of 86, Reginald peacefully left this world. Reg will be sadly missed by his wife of 59 years, Joan; children: David
(Cynthia) & Maurice (Beverly); grandchildren: Heather (Jason), Jason
(Catherine), Shayna, Paul and Ryan; great grandsons, Joshua, Zachary,
Maxx, Charlie, Thomas, Dylan & Lucas; sister: Dorothy; brother,
Norman; sister-in-law Jean, brother-in-law Wayne (Bernette). He will
also be missed by a large circle of family and friends. Reginald was
predeceased by his parents John & Bertha Simms; brothers Robert,
Raymond, Frank & George, & sisters; Jean, Jesse & Catherine. the visitation was held at the funeral home in St. Anthony, after which the Funeral Service was held at the St. Mary's Anglican Church in St. Anthony, at 2:00pm on Tuesday June 3rd, with Rev. WOODWARD, BLANCHE

Passed peacefully away at the John M. Gray Centre on May 24, 2014. Mrs. Blanche Woodward of Boat Harbour, in her 96th year. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her daughter Una (Gerald); sons Enos (Bessie) and Clyde (Patty); daughter-in-law Rowena; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren as well as a large circle of other family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Nathaniel, daughter Rowena, son Gerald, her parents Henry and Susan and a number of brother and sisters. Visitation was held at the St. Mark’s Anglican Church in Boat Harbour from where the funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27 with Rev. Mark O. Wilkoff officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery in Boat Harbour. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Siobhan Mauger, funeral director.

SAUNDERS, GARFIELD ROY

Roy Saunders was born on January 12,1948 to George and Clara Saunders. He had  5 brothers,2 sisters and 6 half sisters. On November 3,1967 he married Priscilla Hedderson, together they had 2 children, Rowena and Jason. He had 4 grandchildren, Jillian, Joshua, Nickolas and Lillie and 1 great grandchild Chloe. He fished in the long liner for a few years before going to Goose Bay for work. Only there for a couple years before coming back  to Cook's Harbour to do what he loved most.... fishing !Roy loved to set potatoes in the summer and he mostly enjoyed digging them in the fall when he could get the chance to cook up a feed of fish ,potatoes and scrunchions and  then to end his meal with a good cup of tea and  a cigarette. His grandchildren were his pride and joy! He loved to watch them play and hear their stories. If he could get them up to something that they shouldn't be at he would. He loved every minute he spent with them. In the last 8 years as a quadriplegic, he spent time at Curtis Hospital and the John M Gray center in St.Anthony. To him the staff were like an extended family. Roy had lots of patience. He never complained about anything, even after he got sick. He loved and adored his kids, grand kids and all his family . He especially adored his loving Wife of 45 years. Roy passed away peacefully at the John M Gray Centre with his family around him on May 22,2014. Left to Mourn: His Loving Wife Priscilla, Daughter Rowena(Christopher),and Son Jason(Roxanne). Grandchildren Jillian, Joshua(Kimberley),Nickolas and Lillie and Great Grandchild Chloe. Brothers San(Eliza),Edgar(Sheila),Melvin(Clara) & Fred(Elsie). Sisters Joyce Cornick & Velma(Morris) Boyd. Half Sister Dorcas and sister in law Marilyn. Predeceased By his Parents George & Clara, Brother Havner, Half Sisters Bessie, Helen, Rebecca, Keziah and Vera. visitation was held at the Anglican Church in Cooks Harbour, from which the funeral service took place at 2:00pm on Monday May 26th  with rev. DREDGE, LORENZO


Lorenzo dredge was born on April 1, 1929, in Black Duck Cove, to William and Edna . He had five sisters Rhoda, Ima, Nina, Jessie and Marion, two predeceased brothers Joseph and Samuel. He married Christina Campbell on February 8, 1961 and had a marriage of 53 yrs. They raised five children , and they now have six grandchildren, and four great grandchildren . Lo spent time on the fishing grounds to provide for his family. He worked with the highways for sometime , and would take his family over to camp 4 , where Chris would cook. Lo was a dedicated worker and provider for his family , he love to socialize with his family and always knew where each one of his children was. Lo remain active , showing his skills and work ethics as he worked on several projects when he retired. Someone once said that the best part of a good man's life is his acts of kindness and love . Lo was a loving and caring husband . He was proud of his children and spoke of his grandchildren and great grandchildren so fondly, he had a genuine concern for everyone in his family circle. He passed peacefully away  on may 13/2014 at Charles S Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony. Lo is survived by his wife Christina Children- Robert(Maryann),  Wavey(Dennis), Curtis( Louise), Nina( Thomas), Scott(Amelia) Grandchildren- Lorenzo(Teraceta), Brian(Abby), Jamie( Jessica), niki(Diana), Tristan, jaycee Great grandchildren- Kaden, Ty , Jaden, Gracielynn Sisters- Rhoda, Ima , Jessie, Marion He was predeceased by his loving parents  William and Edna Predeceased brothers- Samuel and Joseph Predeceased Sister  - Nina Predeceased brother in laws- Clyde and Jacob. Visitation was held at St. Mary's Anglican Church in Black Duck Cove, From Which the funeral service took place at 2:00pm on May 16th, 2014 With Rev. COLES, WALLACE

Wallace Coles was born on March 10, 1920 in Sandy Cove to Archibald & Eliza Coles.

He was a war veteran who served in World War II for 3 years and 8 months. He showed great pride for his country. After returning from the war, he married the love of his life, Marie on her 17th birthday in Flower's Cove. They had 12 children, 4 of whom died at a very early age.

Five years ago, he lost his oldest son, Lambert, and the love of his life, Marie. With the remaining 7 children they helped to lighten the load of his burden. He was taken care of by his daughters until going to the Ivy Durley Place 1 year ago. He was quite contented and really enjoyed living at the Ivy Durley in the time that he spent there.

He was a very special war veteran in our area. Every year he celebrated Remembrance Day Service at CRMA School in Flower's Cove. He would dress in his uniform all adored with his hat, medallions and of course his poppy. He told stories to the students and staff about his journey to the war.

He also attended the Remembrance Day breakfast in his own community of Sandy Cove every year which began to honor him and other war veterans for what they did for our country.

He was a very hard working man. He spent his summers fishing and the winters working in lumber camps. He also enjoyed going to parties with family and friends. He loved to hear music, dancing and sharing stories of the past.

He lived a long and happy 94 years of his life until he peacefully passed away at Charles  S. Curtis Memorial Hospital at St. Anthony on May 5, 2014. His family and friends have been blessed to have such a wonderful man in their lives for so long. It comforts everyone to know that he is with his family in eternal life.

He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his 4 sons; Calvin (Edith), Coy (Vernita), Gorvin (Debbie), Clayte (Wendy); 3 daughters; Lavenia, Patsy (Levi), Darlene (Wood); daughter-in-law; Sheila; 15 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; sisters; Alma Diamond and Selina White; and sister-in-law; Rita Coles.

He was predeceased by his parents (Archibald and Eliza Coles), wife (Marie), brothers (George, Roland, Lush and Elias), sister (Alice Genge), son Lambert & Son-in -law; Clyde White

Visitation took place at St. Thomas Anglican Church in Sandy Cove, the funeral service followed at 11:00 am on May 8, 2014 with Rev. Marlene Harvey and Joyce White officiating. Burial Took Place at the Anglican cemetery at Savage Cove. Funeral Arrangements where entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatres Funeral home, St. Anthony and Roddickton. Rest in Peace. Lest We Forget.
