Charles William Ellsworth

1930 – 2023

Charles was born in Englee on November 14th, 1930 to Margaret Ellsworth, but was raised by his grandparents Susanna and George Ellsworth.

He was known by most as Charlie and throughout his life he worked at several jobs in Englee, his last job working at the local Fish Store until he retired.

He married Alzena Newman on October 04th, 1960 and they raised 6 children together.

He was a volunteer fireman for many years and dedicated much of his time to the Fire Brigade in Englee.

In 1999 Charlie gave his life to Jesus and became a faithful member of the Salvation Army Corp in Englee until his health prevented him from attending.

Charlie passed away peacefully at the Labrador Grenfell Health Center in Roddickton on January 04th. He leaves to mourn his wife of 62 years Alzena, son Terry, daughter Cathy, son Rocky (Jose), daughter Kim (Elvis). Grandchildren Ashley, Brandon, Ocean and Martina. Great-grandchildren Alexandria, Sophia and Danielle. His sister Vickie Compton, and Sadie Randell who became a part of the family in her early teens. Also, many more family and friends.

He is predeceased by his 2 sons Kirby and Danny Ellsworth, mother Margaret, grandparents Susanna and George Ellsworth, brothers George, Tom, Jim, Paddock, Edward, Fred, Jack and Leander and his sisters Jemima and Olive.

He also leaves to mourn his family on his fathers side, the Adams family.

Charlie made many friends over the years and will be sadly missed.

Visitation was held at the Salvation Army Church in Englee form which the funeral service took place at 11am on Sunday January 8th 2023 with Major Raymond Janes Officiating. burial followed in the New Salvation Army Cemetery in Englee.

REEVES, HARRISON RAYFIELD

July 1, 1949 - June 9, 2022

Passed away June 9. 2022 at the age of 72 years.

Harrison was born in Englee on July 1, 1949 to Sidney and Ada Reeves. He met the love of his life, Doris Curtis in 1969 and on May 27th 1970 they were married and together they had 3 daughters, that were his world.

Harrison worked hard in his lifetime at different places, starting with the Whale Plant in Williamsport, and then the fish plant in Englee for a good many years before taking his family and moving to St. John’s where he worked as a carpenter. Eventually they moved back and settled in Bide Arm where he worked on the floor of the Fish Plant until he was promoted to foreman, and he remained until the closing of the plant. After that he did the next best thing to the plant- he went fishing. First with the Englee Pride (Reuben Curtis) and The Green Islander (Alvin Cassell). Overall he was a hard worker, he would help anyone who needed it no matter how sick he was or not, he wouldn’t say anything, he just wanted to make sure he got it done.

Harrison gave his heart to the Lord in April 1998 and everyone who knew him, knew he was a changed man who loved God, and certainly also loved his church.

Harrison was dearly loved and will be missed by his Wife, Doris; Daughters, Darlene (Perry) Cassell, Tina (Brad) Randell, Colleen Reeves (Kyle Frank); Grandchildren, Bronson, Dylis (Skyla Cull), Laura (Peter Norris), Chantal, Angus (Rebecca Pendleton), Josh; Great-Grandchildren, Bentley and Layla; Brothers, Harold (June), Alfred (Shirley), Wilfred (Josie), Derrick (Linda); Sisters, Margaret (Bill), Barbara (Baxter), Josephine (Woodrow) and Ruby, as well as a large number of in-laws, nieces, nephews, as well as many, many extended family and friends.

Visitation was held from the Salvation Army Church in Englee, followed by the funeral service on Thursday, June 16, 2022 at 2:00 pm with Majors Arley and Darlene Masters officiating, supported by Corps Officer, Major Lillian Pelley. Interment followed.

RANDELL, EDITH "ETTIE"

Promoted to glory on Sunday April 17th, 2022 at the Health Science Centre at the age of 96 years. Edith Randell formally of Englee.

Predeceased by her husband Roland, parents Theophilus and Delphina Canning, brothers Simon and Hurbert Canning, grandson Joey Poole, great granddaughter Nevaeh Denine, son-in-law Merrick Snow.

Leaving to mourn with cherished memories her loving children: Nita (Raymond), Patsy (Jack), Don (Ruby), George (Joan), Rosie, Olive (Joe), Frances (Gerry), Regina (Wilfred), David (Yvonne), Frank (Darlene) and Majors Randy and Lisa, her brother Warrick (Millicent), sister Anne Blanchard (The Late Leander), 26 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, 10 great great grandchildren and a special boy Nathan.

Thank you to the staff of Cambridge Estates and 4 South HSC for the care, compassion and professionalism given to Edith during her time with them.

Private visitations are being held at the Salvation Army Church in Englee, from which the funeral service will be held at 11am on the 24th of April with Major Pelley officiating. burial to follow in the church cemetery. ELLSWORTH, WAVEY ISABELLA

Wavey Isabella (Stevens) Ellsworth
November 13th, 1950 - February 6th, 2022

Wavey Isabella Ellsworth was born on November 13th, 1950 to Kenneth and Eva Stevens. Wavey grew up in Main Brook and later found employment in Pasadena, Port au Choix, Corner Brook and Yellowknife. She met and married her husband Ron Ellsworth on April 16th, 1968. They had a beautiful daughter named Diane. She was the joy of their lives. They moved to Englee following their retirement. Wavey was predeceased by her parents Kenneth and Eva Stevens, daughter Diane and brother Clyde. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are:
Husband Ron Ellsworth Granddaughter Bianka (Jeremy) Great Grandsons Remy and Gio. Brothers: Jim (Sis) Stevens, Stanley (Sadie) Stevens, Tom (Gail) Stevens, Walter (Barbara) Stevens, Kenneth jr. FILLIER, KENNETH HAROLD

It is with great sadness, that the family of the late Kenneth (Ken) Harold Fillier announce his passing at Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony, at the age of 94 years, with family at his side. Ken was born in Hampden, NL and moved to Englee at an early age. It was there that he met and married the love of his life, Melina Cassell of Great Harbour Deep on Aug. 9, 1945. Ken worked in many areas through his life, from working in the woods, deckhand on freighters, and cooking on the Grenfell Mission boat, Marvel. In the last 18 years before retirement, he worked in the fish plant in Englee. Ken and Melina raised 6 children and 2 grandchildren in a loving home. Leaving to mourn their loss while treasuring their memories, children: Golda Ropson - St. Anthony; Woodrow (Linda) Fillier – Cold Lake, AB; Miriam (Seymour) Compton– Englee, NL; Barry (Jenny) Fillier – Lacombe, AB; Drucella (Rick) Pollard – Burlington, ON; Kim (Charles) Fillier - Kitchener, ON and Hayley (Daniel) Fillier-Klepp - Cambridge, ON. Ken will also be sadly missed by brother, Jerry Fillier (Dryden, ON); sisters: Alma Pilgrim (Main Brook), Violet Wilcox (Roddickton) and Ella Andrews (La Scie), 15 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild, many relatives and friends. FILLIER, RHODA

September 11, 1930 – August 27, 2019

Rhoda passed away on Aug. 27, 2019 at John M. Gray Nursing home in St. Anthony. Rhoda Fillier was born in Williamsport, NL on Sept. 11, 1930 to Harry & Faith (Canning) Randell. On April. 13. 1949 she married Hubert Fillier of Englee. To complete the family, six children were born: Hardy, Leamond, Harold, Joan, Edwin & Varrick. They later accepted a foster son (Howard Fillier) into their home for five years. Rhoda worked hard to provide and care for her family. For several years, she was employed at the local fish plant. She also loved the great outdoors and along with her friend Eileen, spent much time rabbit catching, trouting and berry picking. In later years, she enjoyed travelling out of town to visit her relatives. She also loved her evening drives around the area with her friend, Fannie. Left to mourn her passing are her daughter: Joan Randell (George), sons: Edwin (Lily) and Varrick (Pansy); foster son: Howard (Evelyn); daughters-in-law: Patsy & Mary, stepsister: Edith Newman (John), grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many other relatives & friends. She is predeceased by husband: Hubert, sons: Hardy, Leamond & Harold. Visitation was held from the Salvation Army Church in Englee with Majors Wilfred and Wavey Simms officiating on August 30, 2019 at 11:00 am. Interment followed. FILLIER, HARDY NELSON

September 10, 1949 – May 9, 2019

Hardy Fillier was born in Englee September 10, 1949 to Rhoda and Hubert Fillier. On June 20, 1974 he married Patsy Hiscosk. Hardy worked on the plant for any years as well as in P.E.I. as a farmer for many years. He loved his grandchildren and they enjoyed him, he also loved going to men’s fellowship camp as well as going to church with his grandchildren. On Thursday, May 9, 2019 Hardy passed away surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his Wife Patsy; Children, Petrina (Darren), Preston (Bonnie), Prenell (Rachel), Philip (Ashley); grandchildren, Zackery, Selena, Carnell, Hope, Mackenzie, Makayla; Mother, Rhoda Fillier; Sister, Joan (George); Brothers, Edwin (Lily), Varrick (Pansy); Brothers-in-law, Terry (Bonnie), Larry (Mo), Wade (Susie), Eugene (Donna), Bert (Kimberly); Mother-in-law, Rowena Hopkins; best friend David Simms as well as a large circle of extended family and friends. Hardy was predeceased by his father Hubert; brothers Lemond, Harold; sister-in-law Ivy; father in law Percy Hopkins as well as his 2 grandchildren. Visitation was held from the Salvation Army Church in Englee from where the funeral took place on May 13, 2019 at 2:00 pm with Majors Wilfred and Wavey Simms officiating. Interment followed. COMPTON, OLIVE ADELAIDE ANETTA (nee HOPKINS)

January 1, 1934 - February 20, 2019

It is with great sadness that the Family of Olive Adelaide Anetta Compton nee Hopkins, announces her passing with her family by her side at Western Memorial Hospital on Feb 20, 2019, at the age of 85. Born on Jan 1st 1934 to the late Tammer and Jonas Hopkins of Englee. On March 25, 1953 she married Allan Compton. Olive will be remembered for her love of gardening. Her favourite pastime was going for a evening ride around town. She was a life long member of the Salvation Army Corps and Home League of Roddickton and Englee. Most of all she loved talking to her children daily to see how they are doing. She loved her Family very, very much. Her life will be forever cherished by her children Joan (Tony), Yvonne, Bernice (Edmund), Jean (Harold), Clyde (Babe), Lesa (Fergie), Connie (Jeff) ; Daughter in-law Sharon; 14 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren as well as numerous family, dear friends and her very Special Friend, Rudy. She is predeceased by her loving husband, Allan and son, Robert. Special thanks to her friends and staff at the Dear Lake Manor over the past 2 years. The Family would like to Thank the many Doctors, especially Dr. Ahmed and Dr. Fudge and staff from all the floors and ICU and Palliative Care at Western Memorial Hospital who attended to our Mother. Visitation will take place at Salvation Army Corps in Englee on Feb 22, 2019 at 7 pm. Funeral Services will take place on Feb. 23, 2019 at 11 am.
