August 3, 1924 - July 21, 2021

John (Uncle Jack) was born on August 3, 1924 to his parents, Charles and Rhoda Russell in Georges Cove, Labrador. As a young man, he moved to Main Brook where he made a living with Bowaters and fell in love with Kathleen Saunders. The two married in 1934 and went on to welcome seven children into the world. Uncle Jack’s work ethic and desire to provide for his family led him to pursue a lifelong career in the fishery. He returned to Labrador every summer with his family for the fishing season until the moratorium in 1992. A devoted father and grandfather, Uncle Jack enjoyed being surrounded by his grandchildren, especially those who grew up alongside of him. Uncle Jack was a very faithful man of God, he lived his faith and was very active in church until he could no longer attend. He passed away peacefully and went home to be with the Lord, whom he loved on July 21, 2021 at the age of 96 years.

He leaves to mourn his Sons, Gary (Elsie), Robert (Tanya), Bradley (Erin); Daughters, Jillian (Rex), Andrea (Perry), Maxine (William); Grandchildren, Darryl, Chris, Craig, Maria, Christa, Aaron, Amy, Justin, Erica, Johnathan, Jordan, Joshua, Jacob, Katelynn, Jackson; Brother-in-law, William Saunders, as well as a large number of greatgrandchildren, extended family and friends.
