October 31, 1942 – March 3, 2020 Passed away March 3, 2020 at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 77 years. He leaves to mourn his soul mate & best friend, Yvonne White; Sisters, Velma, Poornima, Millie; Brothers, Abe, Dereck, Nelson, Baxter, Barry; In-laws, Genny Coles, Glenda Coles, Della Coles, Effie Baines, Sterling White, Beulah Coles, Mary & Claude Dempster, John Porter; Special Nieces and Nephews, Deedee (Steve), Kaiden, Connor Sybil, Kenzie and Rodney; Aunts, Bertha Genge, Sybil Woodward, Edna Coles, Sadie Way, Sarah Way, Hazel Way. Ross was Pre-deceased by his Mother, Pearl, Father, Nelson, Mom, Dora; Brother, Sister-in-law, & Nephew: Ted, Marilyn, & Rocky; In-laws: Clarissa & Raymond White, Ralph & Vina White, Clara White, Stedman Coles, Stewart White, Sybil Porter Also remembered by a large circle of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Visitation took place from St. Marks Anglican Church in Savage Cove from where the funeral took place on March 6, 2020 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Deacon Vernon Short officiating. Interment followed. WHALEN, HENRY ROSS

October 30, 1934 - April 7, 2019

Passed peacefully away at Corner Brook Western Memorial Hospital in his 84th year, Ross Whalen of Flower's Cove on April 7, 2019. Born in Flower's Cove on October 30, 1934 to Henry and Chatfield Whalen. He married the love of his life, Ellen (Genge) and they were wed on November 27, 1958 and shared 60 wonderful years together. Ross and Ellen were blessed with three children, daughter: Judy Sheppard (Ed); Sons: Lorne Whalen (Wanda), Melvin Whalen (Judy); Grandchildren: Chuck Sheppard (Michelle), Chad Sheppard (Emiley), Corey Whalen (Shawna), Chelsie Astles (Andrew), Ross Whalen; Great-grandchildren: Jenna Sheppard, Kayla Sheppard, Logan Sheppard, River Sheppard, Gracie Whalen, Haley Whalen, Claire Astles; Sister: Hazel Archel. Family was the highlight of Ross's life but he also enjoyed berry picking, fishing, cutting wood and playing cards. He had several working skills, he worked with NL Hydro as a Meter Reader and a Groundsman; he also worked with Lundrigans building the roads in the St. Anthony area; he was part owner of a scallop dragger. He was a jack of all trades who instilled values of hard work and independence of his family. He was and is deeply loved and fondly mourned. Pre-deceased by his parents: Henry and Chatfield Whalen; Sisters: Hilda Way, Jessie Coombs, Beatrice Shepherd, Blanch Pitcher, Sue Gould; Brothers: Orick, Ralph; Visitation to take place from the St. Barnabas Anglican Church, Flower's Cove; Family Service is Thursday, April 11th, 8:00 pm and Funeral Service is Friday, April 12th, 2:00 pm. Interment to follow.

PILGRIM, WILLIAM ROSS

William Ross Pilgrim was born in St. Anthony Bight on January 11, 1936 to Harvey Pilgrim and Chatfield (Compton) Pilgrim.  The family moved to Englee when he was a young boy.  When he was 15 he began work in the telegraph office in Roddickton.  At the age 17 he entered the Air Force working as a telecommunications officer.  On October 19, 1957 he married Ruby Newhook of Roddicton.  Together they had three sons, raising them in Roddickton.  Early Wednesday morning Ross passed peacefully away.  Ross is survived by his wife of nearly 59 years Ruby, his sons Shane (Hilda), Todd (Juanita), Trevor (Shanna), grandchildren; Russell (Dawn), Shelley (Chris), Ryan (Shawna), Shelby, Tor and Chantelle, as well as his great grandchildren; Angelie and Layne.  He is also survived by his brother Cluney (Emma), sisters Marion (Ches, deceased) and Joy (Bill). He is gone from our sight, but not from our memory and he will be sadly missed.
The Visitation is being held at the Wesley United Church in Roddickton, from which the celebration of his life will take place at 2:00 pm on Sunday, The 28th of August with Rev. John McGonigle Officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Roddickton United Church. 
    Following the service, a gathering is being hosted by the family at the Mayflower Inn, anyone who know Ross is welcome to attend.

SIMMS, ROSS JACOB

Passed away on June 22, 2016 at the age of 65. Ross was born in St. Anthony Bight on November 5th, 1950 to Myrtle & Alex Simms. He moved to St. Anthony in 1968 and married Rita Hedderson, the love of his life on May 5th, 1978. He went to work in the kitchen at the hospital in 1970 where he worked for 45 years and made many, many great lifetime friends. Ross loved to fish, his favourite place was out on the point down to Upper Brook. He spent many days in the woods, cutting wood to keep his family warm through the cold winters. His favourite place was Fishing Point with his binoculars looking at the whales and icebergs. He was a very quiet man and had very few words, but was loved by all. Ross leaves to mourn Wife (Rita), Son Dawson (Kara), Daughter Lorrie (Marlon), Grandchildren Cameron, Victoria,  Brooklyn, Hunter, and Aaron. Sisters, Jessie, Elsie, Bessie (Edgar), Juanita, Nellie (Keith), and Brother Hayward. Sisters-in-law, Judy (Elias), Cassie (Karl), Iris. Brothers-in-law Ernest (Francis), Ross (Pansy). He was pre-deceased by Parents (Alex and Myrtle), and brothers-in-law, John Carter, Elijah Parrill, and Gordon Powell, and Bruce Barney. Mother-in-law Elsie Hedderson, and father-in-law Ambrose Hedderson. The memorial service took place at Kerry M. Fillatres Funeral Home at 7:00 on Saturday, June 25, 2016 with Rev. TAYLOR, ROSS

Passed away at Charles Curtis Memorial Hospital, St. Anthony on Monday, May 2, 2016 in his 79th year. Ross was born to Edgar and Sybil of Raleigh on January 25, 1937. He was raised with his 2 brothers and 1 sister. He met Vida and married on December 6, 1956 and made a home in Raleigh where they raised 7 children. He worked in the Fishery for a short time and then went on to road construction for 13 years. He started and operated a business together with his wife until retiring in 2000. He leaves to mourn his wife of 59 years, Vida; his daughters Wavey (Allan), Judy, Bernett (Noah T), Gail (Derrick), Marina (Ted); Sons Todd (Geraldine), Dean (Crystal); Grandchildren Michael (Janet), Angie (Carey), Terry (Pam), Mark, Sane (Heather), Zonya (IVAN), Kylie (Brian), Jason (Ashley), Brent (Candace), Dana (Andrea), Zachary (Tracy), Simon, Matt, Toni, Emily, Lily; Great Grandchildren Olivia, Reese, Magnus, Brandon, Jack, Zander, Allen, Zara, Autumn, Dylan, Riley, Cali; Brother Roger (Ena); sister Hilda (Thomas); Brothers-in-law Reginald (Irene), Weldon (Alma), Garland (Pansy), Maxwell (Judy), Winston (Cindy), Alvin (Yvonne); sisters-in-law Christina, Lucy, Marilyn and a large circle of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Edgar and Sybil, brother Reuben, parents-in-law Gordon and Mae, and brother-in-law Sam Wayne. Visitation was held at Kerry M. Fillatre's funeral home in St. Anthony. The funeral took place from the United Church in Raleigh at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 with Rev. Gus Pendleton officiating. Interment followed in the New Raleigh Cemetery. Ross Quinlan of Wild Bight, NL passed peacefully away at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on January 7, 2016, at the age of 70 years. Ross leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his Wife Ruth; Son Jason; Brother John (Hazel); Sisters Margaret, Viola (Bill), Linda (Don); Sisters-in-law Millie (Rueben), Mary (Herb); and brother-in-law Baxter. He was predeceased by his parents Fannie and Walter Quinlan; his brother Ray; and sister Beatrice. Visitation was held at St. Matthew's Anglican Church in Cook's Harbour, NL from where the funeral took place at 2:00 pm on Monday, January 11, 2016 with Rev. Diane Smith officiating.
