TAYLOR, DENNIS

November 28, 1966- December 12, 2024

It is with a heavy heart that the family of Dennis Taylor announce his passing on December 12, 2024, at the age of 58 years. Dennis passed away peacefully at the Strait of Belle Isle Health Center, in Flower’s Cove, NL with his beloved wife of 28 years Patsy, along with family and friends by his side.

Dennis grew up in Forrster’s Point where he worked with the Doyle’s family in St. Barbe. Dennis had his first date with Patsy on August 23, 1987, where they began their life journey together. They had a beautiful son Sylvester together, they moved to BC where he began his career in the oilfield. They later moved to Alberta where his son decided to follow him into the oilfield. Dennis moved back to Newfoundland, March 2017 and went to work with Expro on the Hebron and later move to work on the Hibernia.

Dennis was a lover of all things outdoors, he enjoyed boating, ski-dooing, hunting, fishing, camping, playing cards, renovation projects and snowshoeing with Patsy where he would always want to go into the deep snow. Dennis was a man who always like to keep busy and was always ready to give a helping hand. He will be dearly missed by everyone who had the opportunity to have met him.

Leaving to mourn is his loving wife :Patsy(nee Stevens) ; sisters: Roxanne (Randy) and Jackie (Randy); Mother-in-law: Sadie; Sister-in-law: Marion (Absalom); Nephews: Troy (Virginia) and Ethan; Niece: Rainna and a large group of extended family and friends.

He is pre-deceased by his son Sylvester; his mother Tryphenna (Kitty); father-in-law: (William Henry); and grandparents Isaiah and Emily Taylor.

Dennis will be remembered as a man with a big heart, contagious laughter, and a smile that could brighten any room.

The funeral service will take place on Friday, December 20, 2024 at 8:00 PM from St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Black Duck Cove, NL with Rev. Canon Terrance Coates officiating. Interment to follow at a later date.

EDDISON, LYDIA MATILDA

July 25, 1943 - August 21, 2024

Born on July 25, 1943 to Cyrus & Alma Fillier of Roddickton. She moved to Main Brook in early 1963 and there she married Norman Eddison on April 18,1963.

She had 4 Children (Denise, Randy, Rick, and Rodger) She spent most of her younger years raising her children and working in the local Fish Plant. She really enjoyed Knitting, Gardening, and she dearly loved her ‘Soap Operas’. She welcomed everyone into her home with open arms and she cooked up a good many ‘Scoffs’ in her time.

When her children were younger she had many children/teenagers staying over for sleepovers and she always made sure everyone had plenty to eat. She never had a lot of money during her life but she never let her children do without anything. She certainly enjoyed spending time with her Family & Friends.

She leaves to mourn with many loving memories, her Daughter: Denise (Kenny); Sons: Rick (Tara), Randy (Stephanie), Rodger (Connie); Brothers: David, Jeffery (Rhonda); Wilson (Rita); Special Friends (whom she called sisters): Josephine Jones, Shirley Pilgrim; also, Grandchildren, Great-Grandchildren, Nieces, Nephews, and a large number of relatives and friends.

Lydia is predeceased by her husband: Norman Eddison, Parents: Cyrus & Alma Fillier; Brother: Norman Fillier “Brud”; and Sister: Patsy Penney.

Visitation will take place from St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Main Brook beginning the evening of Sunday, August 25, 2024 and will continue daily until the funeral service on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Canon Terrance Coates officiating. Interment to follow.

COOMBS, DERRICK

November 4, 1953 - July 9, 2024

It is with great sadness, we announce the passing of Derrick Coombs on July 9th, 2024 at the Health Science Centre in St. John’s, NL, at the age of 70 years.

Derrick loved and was loved by his family and friends. He enjoyed spending time with them whenever he could. He enjoyed fishing, especially for salmon and trout, and would take any of us along to share in the joy with only a moments notice. He also enjoyed boating, moose hunting, working, picking things apart, fixing, and building things. In his younger years he played darts, was a member of the Blue Bird Lions Club, Orangeman and Legionnaires. He worked many jobs and always with the same loyalty to each and every one of them. He lived a good life, did what he wanted when he wanted, and left this world the way he always said he wanted to go: quickly without long suffering. He will be deeply missed by all.

Derrick was Born in Flowers Cove on November 4, 1953 to Kenneth Frederick Coombs and Effie Ellen (Mitchelmore) Coombs, he leaves to Mourn mother Effie Coombs, Brothers Hubert Coombs (Myrtle), Seaward (Rose), Sisters Emma Coombs, Annie (Coombs) Pilgrim (Otto), Marolyn Coombs (Barry), Nieces and Nephews, Wendy Coombs, Nelson Coombs (Tina), Unessa Coombs, Kenneth Pilgrim, Effie Adamache (Will), Briana Pilgrim, Alison Patey (Jose), Corbin Coombs, Gage Pilgrim, Robbie Coombs, Ross Pilgrim. Aunts, Caroline (Mitchelmore) Rowsell, Eleanor Mitchelmore, Many Cousins and Friends.

May you rest in peace, forever in our hearts. Until we are all together again!

Predeceased by Father Kenneth Frederick Coombs, Grandparents William and Matilda Coombs, Emanuel and Annie Mitchelmore, Nicholas Hughes.

Visitation to take place at the Church of the Advent in Plum Point on Friday, July 19, 2024, times to be announced with the family service taking place at 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at 11:00 am with Rev. Canon Terry Coates and Rev. Nath Larkin officiating. Interment to follow in the Pond Cove community cemetery.

HODDINOTT, PLEMAN HORACE

March 8, 1931 – June 13, 2024

Passed peacefully at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital, St. Anthony, surrounded by his loving wife and children, at the age of 93 years.

Pleman was born in Brig Bay to Lillian Maude and William James Hoddinott, one of 11 children. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather to 8 children, Joy (Baden), Annette (John), Clayton (4 days old), Pleman (Darlene), Della, (Dexter), Shawnie (Ron) Daisy (Rob), Rick (Terri) and his 15 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He was a very dedicated husband/father who tirelessly provided for his family by engaging in forestry, fishing, and showing movies up and down the coast, across the straits, on the Labrador, and on the Quebec shore, with his brother Clyde. He was a mechanic with Lundrigan’s until he purchased his own dump trucks. He also had a contract with Canada Post to deliver the mail to Roddickton Bide Arm/Englee area for over 20 years.

In retirement he enjoyed his well-deserved break by gardening, going for long walks, taking trips to visit family, and by cutting and hauling wood for his woodstove.

He will be greatly missed by his wife and entire family. We will miss his humor, his gratefulness, graciousness and love. Our precious memories will be with us forever, always in our hearts.

Visitation took place at the Church of the Advent in Plum Point, followed by the funeral service on Saturday June 15th, 2024 at 2pm with Rev. Canon Terrance Coates officiating.

WILLIAMS, GEORGE THOMAS

July 30, 1933 - December 1, 2023

It is with great sadness that the family of the late George Thomas Williams announce his peaceful passing at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on December 1, 2023 in his 90th year.

He leaves to mourn his loving children: Darlene (Craig) O’Brien, Winsor (Sandra) Williams, Frances (Michael) Atkinson, Irene Williams, and George Williams; Grandchildren: Martina (Logan) Dredge, Santana (Damien) Short, Farrah (John) Schmict, Crystal Williams, Keegan Williams, and Jaxon Thompson; Great-grandchildren: Whitney, Mya, Kane, Nash, Kate, and Lily; Sisters: Gertie (Bruce) Pilgrim, Effie (Lou) Hedderson, Jean (Bob) Tucker, Louise Lessard; Brothers-in-law, Donald (Dulcie) Bailey, Stewart (Rowena) Bailey, Bill (Gwen) Bailey; Sisters-in-law: Sheila (Gideon) Genge and Rita Bailey.

He is predeceased by his wife: Mary Williams; Son: Curlene; Daughter: Dulcie; Parents: Clement and Gertrude Williams; Parents-in-law: Soloman and Phoebe Bailey; Brother: Roland (Winnie) Williams; Sisters: Dulcie (Kirby) Taylor, Jane (Archiable) Bailey, Eliza (Grant) Parrill, Sylvia Simon'; Sister-in-law: Irene (Wilga) Gibbons.

A heartfelt thankyou to all the wonderful and loving staff at the Ivy Durley Place in Flowers Cove for taking care of him for the last 8 years. It means the world to us. Also a big thank you to the staff at the Strait of Belle Isle Hospital in Flowers Cove and the staff at the Charles S. Curtis memorial Hospital in St. Anthony for the wonderful care for his last few days on Earth.

Visitation to take place from St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Black Duck Cove the evening of Sunday, December 3rd 2023. The family service will be held on Monday, December 4, 2023 at 7:00 pm. The funeral will take place on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at 3:00 pm with Rev. Canon Terry Coates officiating. Interment to follow.
