HUMBY, ALMA LILLIAN

Alma Lillian Humby was born on July 19, 1934, in New Melbourne to Alexander and Amelia Harris.

In the 1950s she moved to Roddickton where she taught at A.C Palmer Pentecostal School for 30 years. She loved and respected her students and spoke of them often following her retirement in 1993. Teaching was her passion, and she has left a lasting impact on many lives as a result.

In 1960 she married George Humby and they had three sons, Paul, Peter, and Perrin. Whie raising a family, she took a break from teaching and helped manage the Imperial Oil business for nine years. They were also blessed with eight (8) grandchildren and six (6) great-grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with her family and jumped at any opportunity to provide a nice hot meal to those she loved most. She was happiest when all her family were sitting around her table.

Throughout her life she enjoyed excursions with her friends, especially cabin trips and fishing with Aunt Marg, and camping in the motorhome with Dulcie. These are memories she treasured and talked about as some of the best times of her life.

Her greatest pleasure was ensuring that everyone around her was happy and taken care of and she blessed many in her life as God blessed her.
Visitation is being held at the Pentecostal Church in Roddickton beginning Sunday Nov. 10th and Continuing through to the funeral service at 2pm on Tuesday Nov. 12th with Pastor M. Pittman officiating. burial will follow the service at the Community Cemetery.

FILLIER, DAPHNE

It is with great sadness and broken hearts we announce the passing of Daphne Jude (Reid) Fillier. Who passed peacefully away at Charles Curtis Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family on August 25, 2024 at the age of 77 years. Daphne was a devoted wife, loving mother, sister, friend, grandmother and great grandmother. She treasured and embraced every moment with her family and took great pride in her role as Nan. Her days were filled with fresh air, fishing, gardening, and quiet times at the cabin. Predeceased by her loving husband Oliver, her parents Eli and Loretta May Reid and her sister Linda Penney. Left with fond and loving memories Daughters; Jackie (Sterling) and Jody (Brendan) Sons; Steve (Janice), Buck (June), Simon (Jennifer), and Angus (Stephanie) Cherished grandchildren; Mandy (Tyrone), Ashley (Owen), Samantha(Karisa), Chelsea, Tanner (Sarah), Bryden, Logan, Riley, Charlotte and Jager. Many loving brothers and sisters; Melvin (Peggy) Reid, Ford (Donna) Reid, Doyle (Irene) Reid, Guy (Nancy) Reid, Phyllis (Wayne) Lodge, Frank (Debbie) Reid, Doreen (Wilson) Osmond, Eugene (Debbie) Reid, Edna (David) Manuel, Dean Reid. As well as one special great grandson Oliver.

The family would like to express a special thanks to family and friends for all their love and support. And the amazing nurses at Charles Curtis Memorial for their kind words and loving care during her final days.

ANDREWS, WESLEY ROY

April 10, 1949 - July 3, 2023

Wesley Roy Andrews was born April 10, 1949 to John and Daphne (Tucker) Andrews in Ship Cove.

At a very young age Wes fished with his father before going to work at the fish plant in Trepassy. It was here that he married and his son Kevin was born. He then settled in Ship Cove and worked in the fish plant in St. Anthony. After that he spent many summers working at construction jobs in Labrador.

In later years he spent all his time in Ship Cove fishing, getting mussels, and cutting wood. He and his dear friend Carrie especially loved picking berries.

Wesley leaves to mourn, his son: Kevin; Brothers: Garl (Hazel), Gus (Jean), Lloyd (Janet), Alonzo (Diane), Dennis (Margy); Sisters: Marjorie, Millicent, June; and special friend: Carrie.

He is predeceased by his Parents: John and Daphne (Tucker) Andrews as well as Sisters: Dulcie Pynn, Mabel Eddison, and Nina Swanson

SNOW, DAVID

August 10, 1939 - April 25, 2023

Born in Hay Cove, NL to Jane Hedderson and Stephen Snow. He met Bertha Decker, the love of his life 37 years ago, and married on May 12, 2017.  

He leaves to mourn with warm and fond memoires, his children; Kaye (Cletus); Linda (Dale), Pre Deceased; Sandra (Sean); Alma (Rodney); Gloria (Clarence); Cora (Seymour); David (Lanna); and 15 Grand Children and 19 Great-Grandchildren; his Sister, Betty (Job); Brothers, Robert (Eliza), Gordon (Virginia); Brother-in-law, Eli; as well as many caring and loving nieces, nephews, and great friends.

 Dave is predeceased by his Parents, Jane and Stephen; Sisters, Rose, Mary; Brother, Walter (Lavinia); Hector (Madeline)

Private family visitation will take place on Thursday, April 27, 2023.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, April 28th from the Pentecostal Church at 2:00 pm with Pastor Jeff Elliott officiating. Interment to follow.

ELLIOTT, OLIVE BESSIE

January 21, 1939 - April 6, 2023

Olive passed away peacefully on April 6th, 2023 in her 84th year, into the presence of her Lord and Savior whom she loved and served faithfully.

She proudly worked in her Grandfather Ollerhead’s store until the age of 16 when she moved to Stephenville and started working as a waitress.

After a few years of working she moved back to Main Brook where she met Francis Elliott. Olive and Francis were married in June of 1962 and together they raised a beautiful family, shared over 60 years of marriage until her passing. Olive was a godly woman who had a deep and devoted love for her family.

She leaves to mourn her devoted husband Francis Elliott, her daughter Catherine Bishop (Michael), her sons, Jack (Cathie), Paul (Donna), Russell (Ruth), Ronnie (Amy) and Calvin (Michelle). She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren Murray (Dana), Justin (Jenn), Robin (James), Ravyn (Jimmy), Delaney (Elliott), Avery, Camryn, Raymond (Carissa) and Jonathan (Carolanne). As well as her great-grandchildren Logan, Elliott J., Connor, Astrid and Elliott T. She also leaves behind her dear sisters Isabella Pilgrim (Leander) and Irene Earle (Fred). Olive will also be missed by a very large circle of extended family and friends.

Olive was predeceased by her loving parents Stanley and Ruth Ollerhead as well as her brothers James, Raymond and Roy.

Visitation to take place from the Pentecostal Church in Main Brook beginning the afternoon of Sunday, April 9, 2023 and will continue on Monday, April 10, 2023. The funeral service will take place on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Skinner officiating. Interment to follow.

CHUBBS, JOHN WILLIAM

It is with great sadness that the family of John William Chubbs announce his peaceful passing on February 28th, 2023 at the age of 88 years, at the Rufus Guinchard Health Center. John was born February 25th, 1935 to Archibald and Suzanna Chubbs in Seal Bite Labrador. He was married for 60 years to Ruby Chubbs and together they raised their family of 7Children; Shirley, Ethel, Samuel, Kirby, Thomas, Doretta and Jody. He was blessed with 8 grand-children and 13 Great Grandchildren. John is forever loved and remembered by his wif Ruby, Children Ethel (Herbert), Samuel (Gladys), Kirby (Juanita), Doretta (Albert Jr.) and Jody (Ashton). John Was Predeceased by his parent Archibald and Suzanna Chubbs, Brother Winston and Sterling, Daughter Shirley, Son Thomas and son in law Kirby. the family would like to acknowledge and thank the thoughtful and caring staff at the Rufus Guinchard Health Center Long term Care for their kindness and compassion.

Visitation and Funeral Service was held form the Pentecostal Calvary tabernacle in Roddickton NL on March 1st through the second with the memorial service being held on Friday March 3rd at 2pm with Pastor Mark Locke Officiating. burial will follow in the church cemetery.

BURDEN, JUDY GRACE

June 2, 1953 - December 24 2022

It is with profound sadness that the family of Judy Grace Burden announce her passing on December 24, 2022 at Curtis Memorial  Hospital at the age of 69. Judy  was born on June 2, 1953 in Noddy Bay, NL to Elsie and Ambrose Hedderson. Judy was a great mom of four boys as well as a grandma and great grandma. She was married to Elias Burden for 53 years. She was a  member of the church pretty much her entire life.  After her boys were all grown up she spent her later years volunteering in her home town of St. Lunaire -Griquet, NL Left to mourn her:  Husband Elias, Sons  Murray(Lana) Morgan (Tammy), Dexter.  Grandson Damien(Dawn) and Granddaughters Chloe, Destiny, Hayley, Tamara, and Brooklynn. Great Grandkids Hunter, Heath and Caleigh. Sisters Cassie(Karl), Rita, Iris and Lorrie Pilgrim (Marlon). Brothers Ross(Pansy), Ernest(Frances) Also all her in-laws, her homecare worker Sandra Pilgrim and a large circle of nieces, nephews and the numerous close friends that she had made over her 69 years.  Predeceased by parents  Ambrose and Elsie, Son Danny as well as many more family members The family would like to thank all the staff at Curtis Memorial hospital who took such good care of Judy. Special thanks to Mikey for being my our Mom's nurse for all these years  and taking such good care of her.  She talked about you all the time. Also much appreciation to everyone for the support given us at this sad time. The visits, prayers, food or just being there when  we needed to talk or cry. All your support will never be forgotten. RICHARDS, DORCAS

May 15, 1927 - December 17, 2022

It is with heavy hearts that the family of the late Dorcas Richards announce her passing on December 17, 2022 at the age of 95 years at the John M Gray Center surrounded by her loving family.

Dorcas was the loving wife of the late James Richards as well a Mother, Grandmother, Great-grandmother, Great-great-grandmother, Mother-in-law, and Sister. She was a very caring person who loved to spend time on the rivers salmon fishing and on the bogs and hills berry picking. She was a great cook and baker and made many wedding cakes. She also loved to knit and sew.

She leaves to mourn her Children: Rex (Joan), Lester (Viva), Ruth, Patricia (Charlie); Son-in-law: Freeman; Daughter-in-law: Cindy; Grandchildren: Shane, Janice, Trina, Tina, Kevin (Jaymie), Terry (Joni), Greg (Lyndelle), Glenn (Shannier), Melissa (Jeremy), Chad (Karisa); Great-grandchildren: Madison (Chris), Lucas (Caris), Autumn, Brady, Sydney, Katee, Cameron, Hayden, Brooks, Shayla, Emmy, Casey, Clarice; Great-great-granddaughter: Ivy; Half-siblings: San (Eliza), Melvin (Carol), Joyce, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, and friends.

PYNN, VIOLET VIOLA

July 7, 1938 - October 27, 2021

Violet was born on July 7, 1938 in Ship Cove/Cape Onion. She was the first of 9 children of Frederick and Louisa Noseworthy, She married Augustus Pynn on 1953 and lived in Quirpon until his death in 2007, when she moved to St. Anthony. On October 27th, 2021 at St. Claire’s Mercy Hospital in St. John’s, NL after a long battle with illnesses, she passed peacefully away. Violet will be sadly missed but lovingly remembered by her siblings and her many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She leaves to mourn, her Siblings; Wilhelmenia Styles, Fay Rideout (Donald), Arthur Noseworthy, Elmo Noseworthy (Sybil), Sterling (Annie), Margaret Richards (Gordon), Rhoda Feltham (George) and Eileen Penney (Wayne). She is predeceased by her husband, Augustus (Gus) and Parents, Frederick and Louisa Noseworthy. Visitation was held from the Bethel Pentecostal Church in St. Anthony from where the funeral was held on Sunday, October 31, 2021 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Jeff Elliott officiating. PILGRIM, MELVIN SAMUEL

Melvin was born on April 6, 1940 to Fred and Sadie Pilgrim. He grew up in Noddy Bay with a large family of brothers and sisters. On January 29, 1965 he married Beryl Pilgrim and together they raised 4 sons and 2 daughters. Throughout his life, Melvin fished during the summer and worked for the Highway Department in the winter. He loved to hunt, fish, and ride his ATV. Melvin was a well known resident of Noddy Bay and surrounding areas. He will be dearly missed and forever loved by a large circle of a family and friends. He leaves to mourn his loving wife, Beryl Pilgrim; Daughters, Gay (Peter), Gwen (Paul); Sons, Guy (Connie), Glenn (Jen), Grant (Carolyn), Gale (Darlene); 12 grandchildren, 13 greatgrandchildren; Sisters, Blanche (Max), Donna (Garth), Ivy (Ray), Enid (Brian), Melinda (Larry), Lyla, Darlene (Peter); Brother, Eldon, as well as a large circle of family and friends.
