JACOBS, DONALD GREY

June 4, 1932 - October 9, 2023

Donald Grey Jacobs was born on June 4, 1932 to James & Violet Jacobs of Hampden, NL. He was one of 15 children that completed the family. At the age of 8, Donald & the Jacobs family moved to Roddickton. As a young man, he met Clarice Compton, whom he married on June 27, 1953. From their marriage, 5 children were born.

During his earlier years, Donald worked as a logger, then was employed as a mechanic with the local Dept. of Highways - from which he retired after 26 years of service. Following retirement, he continued to work with  Canada Bay Construction in Roddickton, with his long time fellow worker, Willis Hancock. He also continued to do repairs for local residents on their engines & motors. Donald seemed to have a deep & loving fascination with motors of any kind... whether new or Antique! His yard captured the attention of many visitors and tourists to Roddickton because of the various motors on display. Although he shared stories of the hardships of working as a logger, he enjoyed cutting firewood until his early 80's.

Donald passed peacefully away on Monday, October 9th at Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Clarice; children- Clyde (Karen), Wavey (Wilfred), Sharon (Allan) and Lori (Andrew);  9 grandchildren & 10 great-grandchildren; and siblings- Edna (Jacobs), Calvin, Winston, Ellis, McKinley & Hilda (Canning).
