RANDELL, NORMAN HEDLEY

January 9,1934 - January 18, 2025

Passed peacefully away at the Health Science Centre in St. John’s surrounded by his family members.

Proceeded by his parents, Lucy and Mark Randell; His wife, Dora Randell , His sons : Graham, Bedford, and Roger, Sisters: Stella Compton, Cassie Weir, Brothers: Darius (Roy) Randell, Alfred Tucker, Grandson: Jason Noonan

Norman grew up in Williamsport White Bay and later lived in Englee and Roddickton and lived the remainder of his life in St. John’s. He was a carpenter by trade, and built many houses and buildings throughout his lifetime. He worked in the Lumber Camp he was also a fisherman and worked in the Woods . He was a store owner who very generously open up his store in the early morning for customers whether they had money or not. He enjoyed singing hymns and playing the mouth organ. He enjoyed moose hunting right up in his late eighties. He was very spiritual and his greatest love was reading the Bible and reciting Bible verses. He loved having family prayers together.

Leaving to mourn his children; Glenna , Mark(Marie), Charia (Pierre), Lucy(Roger), Marcel, Grandchildren; Dawn(Corey), Jocelyn, Charlene(Jamie), Peter , Roger(Jaz), Kaleigh, Jordan , Also brother Wilbert Randell(Margret) and Sterling Randell(Jackie), Sister in law: Etta Mae (Eugene),, Annie May and Bessie, Brother in Law: Lee(Loretta), John, Lloyd, Several Great and Great Great Children and numerous amount of Nieces and Nephews., Special nephew Don Randell.

Visitations will be held 1 pm to 5pm on Friday 24th, 2025 at the Bide Arm Apostolic Faith Church, The funeral Service will be held from the church at 10:30 am on Saturday 25th 2025.

Internment to follow at the Apostolic cemetery in Roddickton

Died peacefully on Monday, April 17, 2023, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, Nova Scotia, at the age of 78. Loving husband of Trudy (O'Keefe) and father of Charlene (John), Gretchen (Mark), Catherine (Rick) and Will (Laura). Grandfather of Daniel, David, Sophia, Abush, Caroline, Alex, Nolan, Lucy, and Julia.

Born in Toronto on October 14, 1944, he was the son of the late Evelyn (Cooper) and Gerry Fitzgerald. Brother of Geralyn, Tim and the late Greg.

Bill spent his professional life as a rural general surgeon in St Anthony, NL. In the past he was President of the Canadian Association of General Surgeons and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He was appointed a member of the Order of Canada in 2008. Recently he was Chairman of B.O.L.D. in Baddeck, NS. He loved his family, his work as a rural general surgeon in Northern Newfoundland and Labrador, and sailing on his Concordia Yawl, Tosca.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. A funeral service for Bill will be held in St. Anthony, NL, at 11:00 am, Saturday, April 29, at St Mary's Anglican Church. Reception at B.O.L.D. in Baddeck, NS at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of choice.

TOOPE, NORMAN

Born February 4, 1966, Norman grew up in St. Barbe. He .loved sports, especially hockey. He tried playing himself when he was younger but figured it was not for him. He loved his music, his favourite song was “Tiny Red Light”. He enjoyed visitors, going camping, and anything outdoors. Norman enjoyed life to the fullest.

He leaves to mourn his Mother, Eileen; Sister: Edith Jane (Wade); Nieces, Jadean (Dane), Edith (Bon), Jolene (Jordan); Great-nephews: Ashton, Ryan, Eric, Zander, Luke; Great-nieces: Kyla and Emma, as well as a large circle of uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends,

He is predeceased by his father, Abraham; as well as a large circle of relatives.

A funeral service took place from the Black Duck Cove Anglican Church with Rev. Coates officiating followed by burial.

BONNELL, NORMAN

August 14, 1945 – July 12, 2022

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Norman Bonnell of Forresters Point, announce his passing at the age of 76 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and precious memories, his loving and devoted wife Vera; nephew/son Carey (Sheri) Bonnell stepdaughter Renotta (Neil) Mahar; Grandchildren; Ryan & Jayme Bonnell and William Mahar; his siblings: Mamie, Millie (Abraham), Francis (Lionel), Gladys, Ivy, Lorenzo (Louise) as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents: James and Elizabeth Bonnell; father in law William Wells and mother in law Lydia Wells; brother in-laws Alphonsus O’Neil, George Coombs & James Gibbons. Norman had a deep love for his family and friends and always enjoyed fishing, hunting and trapping as well as a good game of cards. Friends may attend the family service at St. Mary’s Church in Black Duck Cove on Saturday July 16th at 8 PM. The funeral service will be held on Sunday July 17th at 2 PM at St. Mary’s Church with Rev. Coates officiating. Interment to follow. All expressions of sympathy and flowers are graciously accepted.

HILLYARD, NORMAN WILLIAM

Passed away on Feb 11th, 2018 at Western Memorial hospital at the age of 74 years. He leaves to mourn wife Julia daughters Judy, Michelle (Bruce) granddaughter Tianna Avery-Hillyard; Sisters Irene, Elizabeth (Curtis), Mary (Clarence), Rebecca (Mathew), Maisie; Brother Eric; Half sister Cora; Brother in law Stephen (Blenda), Samuel (Eileen), Harvey (Barbara), Stan (Ethel), Bill; Sisters in law Gertie, Glenda, Blanche, Pearl, Evelyn, Annie. Norman is predeceased by his parents William and Dorothy; brothers Mike, Bill, Harold, Ted; Sister Rachel; and Parents in Law Aaron and Leah Applin. Cremation took place. Visitation is being held from St. Margaret of Scotland Anglican Church in Shoal Cove West on Monday, February 19th, 2018 at 9:00 am with Rev. Jennifer officiating. Inurnment followed.

SAUNDERS, NORMAN GARFIELD

Passed away at the John M Gray Centre in St. Anthony on December 19, 2016 at the age of 90 years. Norman Garfield Saunders was born on June 5, 1926 to Fred and Mary Saunders. On July 1, 1947 he married Cenith Richards and together they raised seven children and one grandchild. Norman worked for the Grenfell Association for forty-one years. He was a faithful soldier of the Salvation Army for more than seventy years and attended the church regularly until two months before his passing. He will be missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Cenith and family; Marie (John), Lloyd (Elizabeth), Betty (Boyd), Calvin (Ellen), Edith (Winston); Olga (Larry), Paul (Sharon), Michele (Dan); step children Sylvia (Tommy) and Louis (Betty). He was also blessed to have an extended family of half-brothers and sisters (Budgells) of Campbelton; two half-sisters Pearl Pilgrim and Mabel Canning of Deer Lake. A number of grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, and great-greatgrandchildren, as well as a large circle of friends. Norman was predeceased by his Father, Mother, his half sisters and brothers. Visitation was held at Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home in St. Anthony until the funeral service on December 23, 2016 at 2:00 pm which was held from the St. Anthony Salvation Army Church with Captain Brown officiating. RANDELL, NORMAN

Passed away on July 14, 2016 at the John M Gray Center in St. Anthony at the age of 83 years. Norman was born on October 7, 1932 to the late Matthew & Bertha Randell of Whooping Harbour. He married the love of his life, Matilda Compton of Englee on November 15th, 1955. Together they raised 7 children, Wanda, Gideon (Judy), Ambrose, Vay (Christine), David (Sharon), Nelson (Deceased) and Osborne (Roxanne). Norman began his working career as a fisherman. He did this for many years and during the winter months he was employed by Bowaters and other companies as a cook. He spent several years cooking on the coastal boats and the whaling plant in Williamsport.  Norman leaves to mourn 6 children, 14 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 1 half-sister Edith Newman (Wilfred), 1 son in law Kevin and daughter in law Gloria and a large number of close family and friends. He is predeceased by his wife, his son, his parents, 2 brothers and 2 half-brothers. Visitation was held at the Salvation Army Church in Englee from where the funeral was held on Monday, July 18, 2016 with Majors Ross and Brenda Bungay officiating. Interment followed in the Old Salvation Army Cemetery in Englee. In Lieu of flowers donation may be made to the family for distribution among local youth groups.
