BUDGELL, BESSIE MAE

Passed peacefully away at the John M. Gray Nursing Home in St. Anthony on Sunday, June 19th, 2016 at the age of 97 years. Bessie was born to Walter and Maria Dawe of Ireland Bight on May 2, 1919. As a young adult, Bessie moved to St. Johns and worked with the W.H.Ewings Furriers family for four years. Later, on August 11, 1948 she married Charles Budgell of St. Anthony and raised six children; three boys and three girls. Bessie Loved gardening and had a remarkable knowledge of flower varieties. She also loved to read, knit, and crochet. She leaves to mourn Barry (Muriel), Barbara Tuttle (Wayne), Linda Coffin (Roy), Wallace (Zita), Ada Simms (John), Jeff (Sheila); grandchildren Andrea, Jennifer, Mark, Aaron, Brian, Karl, Matthew, Ashley; great-grandchildren Zachary, Simon, Benjamin, Hannah, Kaylee, Noah, Lana; sisters Dulcie, Hilda, Ethel, brother-in-law Frederick and a large number of family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles who passed on May 25, 2016, her parents Walter and Maria Dawe, and her brother George. Visitation took place at Kerry M. Fillatres Funeral Home in St. Anthony. The funeral service took place at 2:00 pm on Thursday, June 23 at the St. Anthony Salvation Army Citadel with Major Dinzel and Kathleen Baggs officiating, interment followed in the Salvation Army Cemetery. SIMMS, WINSTON ELIAS (DICK)

Passed away at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on June 16, 2016 at the age of 71 years. Winston Elias Simms was born on March 23, 1945 to Raymond and Gertrude Simms. He was one of six children, one of whom was his twin sister Selma. He lived his entire life in St. Anthony Bight, never feeling the draw to move away from his home. Dick is survived by his brother Alwyn (Elsie), sisters Ivy, Phyllis, Joy, Beverly, nieces Melissa, Cavell, Jennifer and nephews Bob, Byron, Raymond, Corey, Brian, Brad, Don, and Neil as well as many great nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by parents Raymond and Gertrude Simms, sister Selma Decker and nieces Roxanne Pilgrim and Trena Decker, brother-in-law’s Gerald Spingle and Gordon Thorne. Visitation was held at the Salvation Army Church in St. Anthony from where the funeral service took place on Monday, June 20th, 2016 at 2:00 with Major Dinzel Baggs officiating. BUDGELL, CHARLES NORMAN

Passed away peacefully at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital On Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at the age of 91 years. He was born to Noah and Priscilla Budgell of St. Anthony on May 24th, 1925. He married the love of his life, Bessie Dawe of Ireland Bight on August 11, 1948. Together they raised a wonderful family of six children, three Boys and three Girls. Following his marriage he moved with his wife to Buchans where he worked in the Buchans Mines. He returned to St. Anthony in 1950 and began his career life working in various positions within the town. Despite his full time employment he found time to be involved in community growth as a volunteer having served on early Recreation Committees, School Boards, and as a Town Counselor. He was the towns first Fire Chief. During his retirement, he filled his time with woodworking, gardening, berry picking, fishing, hunting, and spending countless hours with his family. You will be forever missed and always in our hearts.  Leaves to mourn with a lifetime of loving memories his wife Bessie, Children Barry(Muriel), Barbara Tuttle(Wayne), Linda Coffin(Roy), Wallace(Zita), Ada Simms(John), Jeffrey(Sheila), Grandchildren Andrea, Jennifer, Mark, Aaron, Brian, Karl, Matthew, and Ashley, Great Grandchildren Zachary, Simon, Benjamin, Hannah, Kaylee, Noah, and Lana, Brother Frederick, Sisters-in-Law Dulcie, Hilda, and Ethel and a large circle of family and friends. Visitation was held at the funeral home in St. Anthony after which the funeral service was held at 2:00pm on Saturday May 27, 2016 at the Salvation Army Citadel in St. Anthony with Major Dinzel Baggs officiating. Cremation followed after the funeral service. FILLIER, ROSS ERIC GRENFELL

It is with great sadness that the family of Mr. Ross Eric Grenfell Fillier announce his passing on February 15, 2016 at the John M. Gray Center. He leaves to mourn to mourn with loving memories his daughters Audrey (Joe), Donna (Stan), Linda (Rafe), Gertie and Daughter-in-law Rosemary. Grandchildren Danny (Barb), Chris (Tammy), Julie (Guy), Rochelle (Andy), Cory (Shelley), Deana (Rol), Gina (Brad), Sandy (Ivan), Heather (Trevor), and Kristie, as well as Fourteen Great Grandchildren, and Three Great Great Grandchildren and a large number of nieces, nephews, family and friends. EDDISON, JOHN THOMAS

John Thomas Eddison was born on December 16th, 1955, to Jacob and Alice Eddison, in Hay Cove, NL. He was one of seven children. On May 16th, 1980, he married Bessie Noble of Great Brehat. Together they raised three children Brian, Bradley, and Brandon. His love for darts was infectious. His door was always open to family, friends, and to strangers. ON February 12th, 2016, in his 60th year, John passed away while doing what he loved best, he was at his firewood. NOBLE, BERTHA WINNIFRED

Was born in St. Anthony where she grew up on August 31, 1925 to Emily Jane and Harrison Biles. ON May 25, 1946 she married the love of her life Victor Noble of Great Brehat, where together they raised ten children, four girls and six boys. Bertha passed peacefully away at the John M. Gray Center surrounded by her loving family on the 27th day of January 2016, Mrs. Bertha Noble of Great Brehat was in her 90th year. She leaves to mourn with loving memories her children Rita(Bob), Don(Donna), Rueben(Ruby), Marion, Cliff(Judy), Dave(Shelly), Terry(Ann), Rick(Loretta), Gladys(Lorne), Sheila(Rick), She was blessed wityh fifteen Grandchildren, Fourteen Great- Grandchildren and Threee Great great-Grandchildren, Two Brothers Lewis and Walter(Ethel), two Half Brothers Norm(Marilymn) and Edd, half-sister Dorothy(Edd), sister-in-law’s Bertha and Daphne. Bertha was predeceased by her husband Victor, two infant sons, Her parents Emily Jane and Harrison Biles, Brothers Tom and Eli, sister-in-law Eunice and Husband William Henry Cull, sister-in-law Doris Scott and Husband Donald Scott, Vera Richards and Husband David Richards, three Brother-in-law’s Pierce Noble, Eric Noble, and Wilfred Noble, as well as a large circle of family and friends she will be sadly missed by all who knew her. HOPKINS, PERCY WILLIAM ROBERT

Percy was pron on oct. 10, 1936 to Tamer and Jonas Hopkins. he was on e of fourteen children. Percy met and married Rowena Hancock of Roddickton on May 31, 1958, together they had six children; Patsy,Wade Eugene, Burt, Terry and Larry.  Percy began as a young boy fishing with his father and after his fathers retirement he fished with his late brother Randolph, Son Wade and Nephew Harry. He loved moose watching and moose hunting. he enjoyed the things in nature and he also loved to go for his car rides. Percy loved gardening in summertime, his plants, flowers and his cabbage, beets, carrots and rhubarb. Percy loved Christmas, the lights and the Tree. the Lord took him home on his Favorite time of year. Percy passed away at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital on the 26th of December. left to mourn his loss are his wife Rowena, daughter patsy (Hardy) Fillier of Englee, sons Wade (Susie) and Eugene (Donna) of Englee, burt (Kim) of Spruce Grove, Alberta Terry (Bonnie) of Cormack, Larry (Maureen) of Edmonton Alberta.  his brothers Easu (Josephine) of englee, Wilbert (Joan) of C.B.S., Wilfred (Regina) of Englee, sister Emma (Harvey) Compton of prince Albert Sask., Olive (Allen) Compton of Roddickton, Marguerite (Leslie) Canning of Englee, Tina (Terry) Peddle of Grand Falls and Betty (Gordon) Rice of Main Brook as well as his sister in laws Anne and Melvina Hopkins of Englee, brother in law Ray parsons of st. johns and 19 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and a large circle of friends and relatives. Percy was predeceased by his parent Jonas and Tamar, Grand sons Stephen, sisters Louise Squires, Effie Sweetland and Kate Parsons and Brothers Roy and Randolph. visitation was held at the Salvation Army Church in Englee. BURT, CECIL FRANCIS

Cecil Francis Burt was born in St. Anthony on October 9, 1930 to Winnifred and James Burt. He has one son (Roy) and helped raise 6 step children. Left with their memories are Son Roy (Joyce), Granddaughter Leanne, 6 step-children – Albert (Jo), Gary (Irene), Dorothy (Dennis), Gus (Cora), Ern, Benson (Daphne), Effie McLean & family as well as a large circle of other relatives & friends. He is predeceased by his first wife Dora (Simms) Burt and his second wife Dorothy (Hancock) Burt, his parents, Brother Reuben Burt and Sisters Minnie and Mary-Ann. Visitation was held at the funeral home in St. Anthony after which the funeral service was held on Monday December 28th, 2015 at 2:00pm with Major Denzel Baggs officiating. CHAULK, CHRIS DAVID JOHN

Chris was born in Deer Lake on November 10th 1957. In 1974 he moved to St. Anthony to live with his brother Gary and his wife Madonna. It was in St. Anthony that he met the love of his life Gertie and together they had one daughter Kristie. They married on November 20th, 1976. Chris worked at Varies Jobs until 1982, when he went to work with Maurice’s Service Center as a Truck driver. He remained there for 33 years. He served with the local fire dept. for 35years in various rolls. Most of all, Chris enjoyed spending time at his camper fishing, hunting, picking berries and enjoying nightly campfires with his wife Gertie and buddies Stan and Donna. He was a man of few words but he loved to sit and listen to others with a grin. Left to mourn the loss of Chris form their lives are his wife Gertie, Daughter Kristie, Fur Buddie Jack, Brothers Gary (Madonna) and Phillip, sister Cora (Frank), sister in laws Audrey (Joe), Donna (Stan), Linda (Rafe), Rosemary, Nieces and nephews Dawn (Eddie); Mike (Nivose); Jerry (Tina); Melissa; Dan; Julia (Guy), Chris (Tammy); Rochelle (Andy); Cory (Shelley); Deana (Rol); Gina (Brad); Sandy (Ivan); Heather (Trevor); and Families, as well as a large group of Family and Friends. Though a young man, Chris lived to see the passing of his mother Brada, Father Sterling, Brother Tony, and Mother in law Mary Fillier, Big Nan Lavinia Fillier and Brother in Law Wilbourne Fillier. Visitation was held at the Funeral home in St. Anthony on Tuesday November 24th, from which the funeral service was held on Wednesday November 25th with Major Baggs Officiating. PILGRIM, BOYD RONALD

Passed peacefully away at the John M. Gray Center on the 19th day of August 2015, Mr. Boyd Ronald Pilgrim of St. Anthony was in his 60th year. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his Mother Ethel, Brothers Gary, Roy (Loretta), Derrick (Virginia), Bernard (Karen), Glen (Leona), and Lorne (Sandra), a very special Uncle Ronald (Harriet) Pilgrim and a large circle of family and friends. He was predeceased by his Father Garfield and Nephew Marshall. Visitation was held at the funeral home in St. Anthony, after which the funeral service took place at the Salvation Army Citadel at 2:00pm on Saturday the 22nd day of August 2015 with Major Dinzel Baggs officiating.
