ROBERTS, LYDIA

Passed peacefully away at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital on July 8, 2023, Mrs. Lydia Rebekah (Powell) Roberts of St. Anthony, NL in her 89th year.

She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, her daughters: Penny (Hank), and Rochelle (Lloyd); Grandsons: Frank (Petrina), and Cody; Granddaughters: Tobi (Doug), Jo, and Grace; Greatgrandchildren: Phoenix, Silas, and Eleanor; Sisters: Sadie and Gertie as well as a very large circle of relatives and friends.

She is predeceased by Husband: Mount; Parents: Albert and Sarah; Son: Perry; Brothers: Hedley, Melvin, Alfred, Donald and Gordon; and Sister: Beulah.

The family would like to thank the staff of Shirley’s Haven Personal Care Home for making our mom’s home for the last 10 years a very happy and loving place to live, and also the staff of Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital for taking exceptional care of our mom during her illness.

ROBERTS, HAYWARD

January 1, 1941 - May 29, 2022

Hayward passed peacefully away at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital on May 29, 2022. Hayward was born in Quirpon on January 1, 1941, the 4th of 14 children to Levi and Rhoda (Bartlett) Roberts. At the age of 18 he met the love of his life, Millie Pilgrim. They married in 1967 and together had two boys, Wade and Tony. Later they were blessed with two beautiful granddaughters Leanne and Emily.

He started fishing with his father at the age of 12. In 1972 he left the fishery and moved to St. Anthony to work at Pateyville Stores alongside Millie. Between 1975 and 1981 he had several jobs from working with Lundrigan's building roads, helping to build the Viking Mall and upgrading the waterline at St. Anthony Long Pond. He returned to the fishery for a brief time fishing with Gord Diamond where they fished from Belle Isle and later with Clem Patey fishing out of Pateyville. In 1981 he started working with the Town of St. Anthony in the Public Works Department. He retired in 2004 at the age of 64. Although 'retired' he continued to work doing odd jobs around St. Anthony. Hayward was a quiet man and lived life simply. He was an avid seal hunter, loved anything to do with the saltwater like turr, duck hunting and cod fishing. He loved the sport of salmon fishing and would often get up at 3 am to be on the rivers. He also enjoyed spending his days out on fishing point, appreciating the view and chatting with his buddies.

Leaving to mourn his wife of 55 years, Millie, Sons Wade and Tony (Jackie) and his two granddaughters Leanne and Emily who were his pride and joy. Also left to mourn are his brothers Elmo (Madonna), Ralph, Nelson (Sharon), Danny (Brenda), and Randy (Karen); his sisters Blanche Johnson, Louise (Izzy) Lafrense, Joyce (Pearce) Tucker, Ruby (Bill) Carpenter, Irene (Roy) Simms, Rachel (Roy) Parrill, and Daphne (Bob) Richards. Brothers and Sisters-in-law Harvey (Donna) Pilgrim, Lucy Pelley, Charles (Joyce) Pilgrim, Bruce (Gertie) Pilgrim and Harriet (Ron) Pilgrim and a large number of nieces, nephews and friends, including Ed Greenham, Fred Greenham and Scott Richards.

He is predeceased by his parents Levi and Rhoda Roberts, brother Murray, Father and Mother-in-Law Gideon and Violet Pilgrim, Brothers-in-law Bill Johnson and Fred Pelley.

The family would like to express their deep gratitude to the Nursing staff of Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital, Med/Surg Unit for their exceptional care over the past three weeks and to Bonnie and Helen in the Cancer Unit for their care.

Visitation to take place on Tuesday, May 31st from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Salvation Army Church, St. Anthony. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at 10:30 am with Majors Henry and Beatrice Bingle officiating.

PATEY, SCOTT DARRYL

December 4, 1967 - April 29, 2022

Scott Darryl Patey passed away suddenly on April 29 at the age of 54.

Raised In St. Anthony Bight by parents Eric and Mae Patey alongside his 5 siblings. Scott loved the outdoors and had a deep passion for fishing, which his family can say he never passed a licensed river without stopping the vehicle and in his words " I'm gonna have a try here now". He was a carpenter by trade and over the course of time worked many jobs but most recently was a mail truck driver for Canada Post and for the last 8 years was a member of the St. Anthony Fire Department.

In 1990 he met and fell in love with his soul mate and partner of 33 years Bev Letto. Together they had two beautiful children, Patrick and Kelly. In 2020 they were blessed with their first grand child Lincoln and in 2021 they double blessed with their second grandchild, Emma and third grandchild, Logan. They were his jewels and they loved their “pop pop”. Family and friends meant so much to him and he always had a kind word to say about everyone.

He leaves to mourn with broken hearts and cherished memories his soul mate Bev Letto; Son, Patrick (Jenna) and Daughter, Kelly (Blaine); 3 precious grandbabies who he truly adored, Lincoln, Emma and Logan; his parents Eric and Mae Patey; Brothers, Owen, Chris (Olivia), Dwayne (Alex), and sister Faye (Frank) as well as his nieces and nephews, aunt's and uncles, cousins and many special friends.

He was predeceased by his sister Dawn White; Grandparents, Isabella and William Patey, Thomas and Louis Taylor; Father in law, Albert Peter Letto; m=Mother in law, Kathleen Letto; Sister in law, Mary Ann Letto, and Sister in law, Elizabeth Letto.

BARTLETT, WAYNE DAVID

January 5, 1955 - January 7, 2022

It is with great sadness that the family of Wayne share the news of his passing after a very long and courageous battle with cancer. Wayne left us in the morning of January 7, 2022. He died peacefully at his home in Quirpon with Cheryl, Andy and Phoebe by his side. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his partner Cheryl McCarron; Son Andy (Phoebe); Grandsons AJ, Henry, and Ben; Brother, Bill Bartlett (Mabel) and family; Leta Bartlett (mother of Andy and Angelina) and Nellie Bishop and family. Wayne was predeceased by his mother Violet, father Joshua, daughter Angelina (Adrian Allen) and grandson Findley.

Wayne will be missed by so many, especially closest and lifelong friends Alec Roberts and Karl Sparkes. In addition he leaves to mourn his lifelong neighbours and friends of Quirpon who shared since childhood his love of Quirpon, music, camaraderie, and all sorts of mischief.

He leaves behind legions of relatives and good friends that are too numerous to list here. Deserving special mention are the women and friends who thoughtfully prepared and delivered his favourite Newfie foods to him during his illness. Your love for him is obvious and returned many times over by Wayne.

Private Visitation was held from the Central United Church, Quirpon Branch on Monday, January 10, 2022 after which cremation followed. The funeral service will take place on Thursday, January 13, 2022 at 2:00 pm from the Central untied Church, Quirpon Branch with Majors Henry and Beatrice Bingle officiating. YOUNG, GLENDA MELVINNA

It is with great sorrow that the Earle/Young family announces the passing of Glenda (Earle) Young. Following a brave battle with illness, Glenda passed peacefully on December 12th surrounded by family.

Glenda was born on May 3, 1973, and grew up in St. Lunaire-Griquet. She was always very ambitions, earning both the Governor’s Award of Excellence in highschool and college. She lived in Ontario with her husband for 16 years. She led a well-rounded life, working various careers, and enjoying the outdoors, vacations home, and, of course, cats. Glenda was an avid motorcyclist and snowmobiler, and thoroughly enjoyed time with family get-togethers, especially game nights, cook-outs on French Beach, and gathering around Dad’s homemade icecream.

Glenda loved with all her heart; she was a thoughtful, caring, beautiful soul. She was an exceptional wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She was the glue that held the family together, always the first to initiate family photos or arrange activities. She had a great sense of humor, and had an infectious smile; her presence lit up a room. It is with of great pleasure to us that she moved back home 12 years ago, as the memories we have are priceless.

Glenda recently graduated college earning a variety of scholarships and awards, even thorough great suffering. She was determined and hard-working, and her fighting spirit remains an inspiration to us.

Leaving to mourn husband, Roger; parents Herb and Pearl; parents in-law, Lloyd and Joyce; sister, Mona; brothers, Gary (Loraine) and Byron (Kim); sister-in-law, Virginia (Derrick); brother-in-law, Mike (Michelle); niece, Hayley; nephew, Logan; and a large circle of family and friends.

Our hearts are broken, but your memory will heal us. Glenda, you will be remembered for the beautiful, vibrant, compassionate person you are. Rest in Peace; until we meet again.

STRYDE, ALFRED JAMES

Alfred James Stryde was born to Aubrey and Isabella Stryde of Bridgeport on Dec. 23rd of 1940. On August 16th of 1967 he Married the love of his life Elizabeth Hill of Cooks Harbour. They were blessed with the birth of three sons, Gordon, Darren and Shawn. Elizabeth and Alfred also raised Cathy Tucker for a number of years. He loved to read and listen to church on Sunday. He will be sadly missed by his sons Darren (Petrina) Stryde, and Shawn (Carol) Stryde and his three treasures ; Krista, Nathan and Alex. His sister Jean Boyd, Glady (Charles) Emberley, Louise Stryde, Thelma (Terry) Wheeler, Eileen (John) Philpot and his brother Harvey (Betty) Stryde. His sister in law Loretta Stryde, Marg Rose, Betty Hill and Eliza Hill. Alfred was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth Stryde, Son Gordon, Parents Aubrey and Isabella Stryde, his sister Maisie Rideout; brothers Ivan and Eric Stryde; and brother-in-law Gilbert Boyd and will be missed by his buddies Grenfell Blake, Everton Patey, Ronald Pilgrim and Many other family members and friends. With heartfelt sadness we the family of Glenda Fowler announce her passing on June 1st 2021. She was much loved and will be sadly missed by her mom, sisters, nephews and niece and all her fur friends. Glenda lived a quiet, simple life and suffered in silence. Glenda appreciated everything big or small someone gave and always kept it in her notes. Glenda loved volunteering at the family resource center and the staff there praised her for her good attendance and her special attention to the kids- especially the preschool, who she would give stickers to for their homework and put it in their folders. Special to Glenda, and something that always brought a smile to her face, was her fur friends—Gracie, Joe, Gord, Shep, Teddy, and Chico.

She leaves to mourn her Mom, Stella Fowler; Son, Andrew Ivany; Sisters, Jessie Gillingham (Maurice), Joan Ivany (Bob), Dorothy Fowler, Colleen Loder (Allan); Nephews, David, Michael, and Maurice; Niece, Cynthia; Great-nieces, Rebel and Emily; Great-nephews, Liam, Jackson and Carson. Special in so many ways were her cousins; Jackie, Ruby, Pearl, Shiela and Judy. Also left to mourn also are many cousins as well as her Aunts, Jessie Elms, Selma Fowler, Cora Fowler, Barbara Fowler, and Uncle Gary Fowler. Glenda is predeceased by her Dad, David Fowler, Grandparents, Isaac and Winifred Fowler, and Benjamin and Joanna Smith.

Naomi was born to John and Julia Seymour in Margaree, NL. She met the love of her life, John Ball, and married him on January 13, 1949. Together they raised 13 Children. They moved to St. Anthony in 1963. Naomi is survived by 8 daughters; Annie, Eleanor, Gwenyth, Norma, Darlene, Julieann, Louise, and Nadine; 5 Sons, Eric, Merrill, Jim, Seymour, and George; as well as 31 Grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren; 6 Sisters, 2 Brothers, and a large number of family and friends. She is predeceased by husband John; Son, Matthew; Sons-in-law, Wilfred Reardon, Dana Macdonald, 2 sisters and one Brother. Private Visitation to take place from Kerry M. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Levi Tucker announce his passing on October 14, 2020 at Curtis Memorial Hospital.
