ROBERTS, HAYWARD

January 1, 1941 - May 29, 2022

Hayward passed peacefully away at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital on May 29, 2022. Hayward was born in Quirpon on January 1, 1941, the 4th of 14 children to Levi and Rhoda (Bartlett) Roberts. At the age of 18 he met the love of his life, Millie Pilgrim. They married in 1967 and together had two boys, Wade and Tony. Later they were blessed with two beautiful granddaughters Leanne and Emily.

He started fishing with his father at the age of 12. In 1972 he left the fishery and moved to St. Anthony to work at Pateyville Stores alongside Millie. Between 1975 and 1981 he had several jobs from working with Lundrigan's building roads, helping to build the Viking Mall and upgrading the waterline at St. Anthony Long Pond. He returned to the fishery for a brief time fishing with Gord Diamond where they fished from Belle Isle and later with Clem Patey fishing out of Pateyville. In 1981 he started working with the Town of St. Anthony in the Public Works Department. He retired in 2004 at the age of 64. Although 'retired' he continued to work doing odd jobs around St. Anthony. Hayward was a quiet man and lived life simply. He was an avid seal hunter, loved anything to do with the saltwater like turr, duck hunting and cod fishing. He loved the sport of salmon fishing and would often get up at 3 am to be on the rivers. He also enjoyed spending his days out on fishing point, appreciating the view and chatting with his buddies.

Also left to mourn are his brothers Elmo (Madonna), Ralph, Nelson (Sharon), Danny (Brenda), and Randy (Karen); his sisters Blanche Johnson, Louise (Izzy) Lafrense, Joyce (Pearce) Tucker, Ruby (Bill) Carpenter, Irene (Roy) Simms, Rachel (Roy) Parrill, and Daphne (Bob) Richards.
