PYE, ROY MAXWELL

It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that the family of Roy Maxwell Pye announce his passing on October 27th, 2024 at Curtis Memorial Hospital after a short illness. Roy was a very special devoted spouse, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Roy is predeceased by his parents Frank and Violet Pye, Son L.S. Travis Pye, brother Ward, and special friend William Strugnell.

Left to mourn with a broken heart is his loving partner of 25 years Nancy, Daughter Vanessa (Dennis), Son’s Matthew (Corinne), Marcus (Christina), Nancy’s children Cecil and Charmaine (Matt). Grandchildren Isiah, Emma, Maria, Connor, Dawson, Callie and Nancy’s Granddaughter Jillian.

Roy leaves to Mourn his siblings Clara Rumbolt (Raymond deceased) Stewart Pye (Laura), Guy Pye (Nora), Lloyd Pye (Ena), Alvin Pye, and Valerie Russell (Reginald deceased) and his sister in law Verna Pye. As well many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Especially Nancy’s special sister Pansy and family.

Roy was a long time employee with the Canadian Coast Guard. He had a 37 year career starting from a Weather Observer to a Supervisor of the Loran C. Roy loved to watch a good game of curling and a good ol Toronto Maple Leaf payoff game. He loved to have a good game of cards with his family; a game of darts and a cold one with his friends. He was also very talented in playing the accordion and he loved spending time with his family every chance he got.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the nurses in St. Lewis, Sherri-Lee and Cynthia who worked to get him out of St. Lewis. The fabulous team in Curtis Memorial Hospital ICU, who worked tirelessly to ensure he received the best possible care. All off the Doctors, ICU team and RT, Mike who made sure Roy was cared for right up to his last fighting breath. We would like to express special thanks to Rev. Vernon Short (Uncle) and his wife Aunt Maisie for travelling from Flowers Cove to pray with Roy and his family. We would like to thank the MHA, Minister of Health and MP who tried to facilitate the best possible care. We will be forever grateful for the support and love shown by our amazing family, and wonderful friends, caring for everything from our children and helping with the funeral service.

MORRIS, JESSIE LOUISA (nee Reeves)

July 20, 1943 - January 22, 2023

Jessie Morris was born in Cape North on July 20th, 1943, to Barton and Edith Reeves, she was raised in Goose Cove. She married Clarence Morris in 1963 and moved to Cartwright where they began their family, Jessie with her children later moved to Goose Bay.

Some years later Jessie moved back to Cartwright where she spent the rest of her years. She did not have an easy life, but she worked hard and raised her children, who were her pride and joy. Jessie’s every thought was for her children and grandchildren, longing for them to know the God that she served. Jessie placed her hope in Jesus, she remained that way until her passing in St. Anthony on January 22nd, 2023.

Jessie was a devout Christian who loved to worship her Lord and Savior, she found great peace in this and would do so at every opportunity. Jessie is now kneeling at her Savior’s feet.

Jessie leaves to remember with love, her Daughters: Nellie (Ronald) Pardy, Darlene (Jason) Taylor; Sons: Clarence (Bernice) Morris, Leroy (Sharon) Morris; 5 Grandchildren; 7 Great-grandchildren; Brother: Benjamin (Francis) Reeves; Sisters: Karen (Bob) Lunnen, Charlotte Coombs, as well as many other extended family and friends

She is predeceased by her husband: Clarence Morris; Son: Clifford Morris; Parents; Barton & Edith Reeves; Brother-in-law: Pete Coombs.

The family wishes to acknowledge with heartfelt thanks and appreciation to all whom contributed through the many expressions of love, concern and kindness shown to them during their hour of bereavement and sadness. May God Bless You!

The homegoing service is tentatively scheduled to take place on January 26, 2023 from the Evangel Pentecostal Temple in Cartwright with Pastor Rochelle Andrews officiating. Interment to follow.

BUTT, STANFORD ALLAN

March 10, 1935 - August 28, 2022

Stanford was born March 10, 1935 in East St. Modeste, Labrador. He was the oldest child of Allan and Susannah Butt. Stanford was a quiet man who never married and had no children of his own, though he is fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews who thought the world of him. He enjoyed the outdoors to the fullest. In his younger years he excelled at hunting and always provided for his mom and the family. In his later years he made a good many trips over on the Boney Shore and up to the top of Tracy Hill, he continued daily walks until he was in his eighties. Overall he was a smart, active little man.

He leaves to mourn, his Sisters, Fannie Layden (Roland), Gladys Yetman (Leonard); Brothers, Steward Butt (Meta), Hubert Butt (Thelma), Harrison Butt (Peggy), Sterling Butt (Julia) as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.

Stanford is predeceased by his Parents, Susannah and Allan Butt as well as his Sister, Effie Butt.

POOLE, THOMAS JAMES

Thomas J. Poole was born on September 15th, 1930 to Fredrick and Emma Poole.

He Leaves to mourn his children Cora (Gordon), Bernice (Frank), Victor (Christine), Bessie (Chad), Shawn (Wendy), and Ethel (Pleman). His grandchildren Effie, Dean, Vince, Pauline, Kent, Stacey, Laura, Natalie, Krista, Karla, Ashley, Danny, Nicole, Michelle, Lisa and Cole. His great-grandchildren Danielle, Courtney, Kyle, Shayla, Megan, Alysha, Alana, Taylor, Hannah, Cali, Nathan, Leah, Benjamin, Jack, Ryder, Maddison, Georgia, Bentley and Elsie-Mae. His great-great-grandchildren Logan and Dayna. His sister Ethel (Wilfred), many nieces, nephews and friends.

Tom is predeceased by his wife Elsie, 2 sons Carl and Wallace. 6 brothers Nelson, Earl, Norm, Paul, William and Llewllyn. Two sisters Florence and Shirley. Parents Fredrick and Emma. 

Tom met and married the love of his life Elsie Burden on December 27th, 1956. Together they raised eight children. Tom was a hard worker who did the best to provide for his family. Tom had his trials in life when he lost his 23 year old son to a motorcycle accident  in 1984. In 1992 he lost a second son, age 30, in a drowning accident, along with his brother, age 59. Then in September 1999 he lost his wife, age 60. All the tragedies made him stronger, he never gave up and stayed strong to the end.

Rest in peace. 

Visitation began on March 14th, 2022 and will continue till the service at a local meeting place (time of which will be announced) With Rev. Jennifer Rumbolt Officiating. RUSSELL, JOHN CHARLES

August 3, 1924 - July 21, 2021

John (Uncle Jack) was born on August 3, 1924 to his parents, Charles and Rhoda Russell in Georges Cove, Labrador. As a young man, he moved to Main Brook where he made a living with Bowaters and fell in love with Kathleen Saunders. The two married in 1934 and went on to welcome seven children into the world. Uncle Jack’s work ethic and desire to provide for his family led him to pursue a lifelong career in the fishery. He returned to Labrador every summer with his family for the fishing season until the moratorium in 1992. A devoted father and grandfather, Uncle Jack enjoyed being surrounded by his grandchildren, especially those who grew up alongside of him. Uncle Jack was a very faithful man of God, he lived his faith and was very active in church until he could no longer attend. He passed away peacefully and went home to be with the Lord, whom he loved on July 21, 2021 at the age of 96 years.

He leaves to mourn his Sons, Gary (Elsie), Robert (Tanya), Bradley (Erin); Daughters, Jillian (Rex), Andrea (Perry), Maxine (William); Grandchildren, Darryl, Chris, Craig, Maria, Christa, Aaron, Amy, Justin, Erica, Johnathan, Jordan, Joshua, Jacob, Katelynn, Jackson; Brother-in-law, William Saunders, as well as a large number of greatgrandchildren, extended family and friends. He is predeceased by his Wife, Kathleen; Son, Eric Russell; Grandson, Ryan Russell; and his parents, Charles and Rhoda Russell.

Visitation will be held this evening at the Pentecostal Church in Main Brook with the funeral service being held at 2:00pm on Friday July 23, 2021 with Pastor Skinner officiating. May 21, 1949 - July 17, 2020
It is with profound sadness that the family of the late Ricky Rumbolt announce his passing on July 17th, 2020 at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital. Ricky lived for his family, and spoiling his grand kids. He loved the sea, he fished on Camp Islands until the cod moratorium and with the Labrador Shrimp Co. on the shrimp draggers. He sailed his last trip on the M.V. Northern Osprey III before retiring in August 2019. He also loved combing the hills of Camp Islands in search of bakeapples and always found his share. Ricky leaves to mourn; Jean, his wife of 47 years; his daughters Sheena (Leon) and Marilyn (Wade); his grandchildren, Jaime (John), Christian, Shae (Alexa), Owen and Starla (Andrew); His Great Grandchildren, Kasey and Bridget. Also mourning his loss is his siblings, Lorraine, Rosalind (Freeman), Roddy (Patsy), Shirley (Ross), Pauline (Aubrey), and Glenda (George), their families, many friends and his fellow crew members. Ricky was predeceased by his parents Clarence & Mabel Rumbolt, his grandson and best buddy Chesley Rumbolt, and his brother - laws John Stone, and Gerald Martin. " Love is stronger than death" At this time we would also like to extend our thanks and appreciation to Dr. Conners , Dr. Parfrey , the CCU nurses at the Health Sciences Center, Dr. Maynard, Dr. Alshami, ICU nurses and ward nurses at Charles S. Curtis Memorial, Fillatres Services, Uncle Roddy, Dave Leyden, Pam Yetman, Pat Martin, Joan Rumbolt as well as all those who are supporting us through this difficult time in any way. STRUGNELL, KIRBY PETER

October 16 1963- February 10,2020

Kirby Strugnell of Port Hope Simpson, NL passed at Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 56 years. Kirby like Spending time on the lake at his cabin, singing playing guitar, loved launching his boat on a sunny day to go fishing. As well he worked with Johnson construction for 11 years. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and coworkers. He leaves to mourn his Wife, Donna Strugnell; Daughters Annette and Yvette Strugnell; Granddaughters, Athena, Mya, and Marlene Strugnell; Parents, Violet and Simon Strugnell; Sisters and Brothers, Sherry Penney, Shelia King, Karen Chubbs, and Jason Strugnell as well as a large circle of extended family and friends. Kirby was predeceased by Brother, Shawn Strugnell. Visitation to take place from the Pentecostal Church in Port Hope Simpson beginning on Wednesday, February 12th, 2020 and will continue on Thursday, February 13th, 2020. MOORES, MARTHA

Passed away July 13th, 2018 at Charles S, Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 87 years. She leaves to mourn with loving memories her Daughters Blanche Tywne (George), Thelma Butt (Hubert); Son Richmond; Grandchildren, Colinda, Lenny, Kimberly, Dana, Noreen, Gillian, Trina, Matthew, Gordon, and Carola; Great-grandchildren, Trevor, David, Stacey, Baillie, Dillon, Nikita, Rikkie, Rikita, and Christopher; Great-great-grandchildren, Thomas, Peyton; Brother, Roland Layden (Fannie); as well as a large circle of other family and friends. Martha is predeceased by her husband, Thomas Moores, and Son, Harry Moores. Visitation was held from the United Church in Red Bay from where the funeral was held on Tuesday, July 17th, 2018 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Alice Moores officiating. Interment followed in the United Cemetery in Red Bay.

HOLLEY, DALE

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Dale Holley announce his sudden passing on Tuesday January 9th, 2018 after a short but harsh battle with cancer at Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony, NL at the age of 61 years old. He will be forever remembered and loved by his wife Linda of 39 years, Children; Cara (Neil), Jennifer (Andrew), and Hayward. Grandchildren: Jared, Madison, Marc, Meyah, and Liam. Brother Tom (Joyce), half siblings: Ruby (Melvin), Clarence (Loretta), Bart (Joyce), Bruce (Joan), Terry (Phyllis). As well as a large circle of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins & friends including his work family at Johnson's Construction Ltd. Predeceased by parents John & Lavinia; nephew Darry and half-brother Tom. Visitation was held from St. Mark's Anglican Church in St. Lewis, NL from where the funeral took place Sunday January 14th, 2018 at 2 pm. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Kerry M. RUSSELL, WILLIAM ELDRED

Born in William’s Harbour, Labrador on August 10, 1934, passed away January 8th, 2018 at the John M. Gray Centre in St. Anthony at the age of 83 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his Daughter Lorraine (Maurice); Grandchildren Melanie and Maria; Brothers Freeman (Rosalind), Howard (Dorothy), George (Louise); Sisters Laura and Clara, brother-in-law Fred Sooley, Sisters-in-law Valerie Russell and Rita Rowe, as well as a large circle of family and friends. He was predeceased by his Parents William and Levenia Russell; Brothers Albert, Jacob, Norman, Melvin, Robert, Redgeway; Sister Susannah; Brothers-in-law Thompson Flynn and Jacob Hill, and Nephew Stephen Flynn. Visitation was held from the Anglican Church in Mary’s Harbour from where the funeral took place at 1:00 pm on Friday, January 12th, 2017 at 1:00 pm with Rev. Gerald Peddle officiating.
