WAY, JANE

November 30, 1954 - October 29, 2024

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our loving mother, Jane Way, who passed peacefully surrounded by her loved ones at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital on October 29th, 2024 at the age of 69.

Survived by and left to mourn with fond memories, are her sons: Trent (Kate) and Trevor (Candice); her grandchildren: Shayden (Jenna), Chloe and Caylee. Her loving brothers: Lige (Emma) Way, Melvin (Emily) Way, Glenn (Vira) Way, George (Elaine) Pilgrim, Watson Way and John Way; sisters: Lucy Myers, Wavey (Earl) Way, Donna (Sam) Applin; brothers-in-law: Roland (Joyce) Way, and George Rose; sisters-in-law: Dorcas Guinchard, Nancy(Ivan) Chambers; her special friend Kenneth Way, nephews, nieces, other relatives and large circle of friends.

Jane is predeceased by parents Elijah and Dora Way; her loving husband Bruce; brothers-in-law Clarence Myers, Henry (Mary) Way, Lawerence Guinchard, and Howard (Susanne) Pilgrim; sister-in-law Effie Rose.

A Special thank you to the all of the amazing nurses and staff in the chemo department, and the first and second floor nursing stations at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony for the wonderful care; the nurses and staff at the Strait of Belle Isle Health Center in Flower’s Cove; Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral home; Rev. Short; Loomis Way and to anyone else that has contributed in any form.

The family service will be held on Thursday, October 31, 2024 at St. Mark’s Anglican Church in Savage Cove at 9 pm; where the funeral service will be held on Friday, November 1, 2024 at 2:30 pm with Rev. Canon Vernon Short officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery.

HODGE, MARY JANE

May 26, 1946 - August 24, 2022

We are saddened to announce the passing of Mary Jane Hodge of Ivy Durley Place, Flower's Cove. Mary Jane passed away on August 24, 2022 at Charles Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony.

Mary Jane enjoyed many years of singing, dancing and walking from card game to card game with her beloved husband George.

Left to cherish with many wonderful memories are her husband George Hodge, Sisters Joyce (Gilbert), Kizzie (Rol), Brothers Phil (Joan), Isaac (Olive), Seymour (Ada), Reuban (Gwen) and Sister in Law Sarah Hodge.

Predeceased by her parents George and Kizziah Gaulton, brother George Henry.

Mary Jane's funeral service will be held in St. Mark's Church Savage Cove on Friday August 26, 2022 @ 2:00 with Rev. Vernon Short officiating. Interment to follow. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre funeral home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Alicia Patey, funeral director.

APPLIN, ELIZABETH JANE (Nee Woodward)

October 18, 1940 - June 24, 2022

Jane was born in Boat Harbour to Elder and Muriel Woodward. She was raised there until she went to St. Anthony to work at the hospital. On May 8, 1962 she married Gordon Applin. They lived in St. Anthony for a number of years before moving back to St. Barbe. She and Gordon had two children Dennis and Sheila. Jane was an active woman who loved knitting and enjoyed card games, berry picking, gardening and camping. She and Gord enjoyed working in their garden as well as spending time in their camper. On Friday Jane passed peacefully away.

Jane is survived by her husband of 60 years Gordon as well as her children Dennis (Mary Ann), and Sheila (Bob), also her grandchildren Shannon (Angela), Kerry (Lisa) and Mateo (Charlotte).and great-grand children Ella and Evan. She is also survived by her sisters Eleanor, Gladys, Ethel, and brother George.

She is predeceased by her parents Elder and Muriel, brothers Nelson and Harrison, and sisters Bessie, and Evangeline. She will be sadly missed.

Visitation to take place from the United Church in Pidgeon Cove beginning the evening of Sunday, June 26, 2022 and will continue until the funeral on Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at 2:00pm with Rev, John McGonigle officiating. Interment to follow.

TOOPE, ELIZABETH JANE

It is with deep sadness that the family of the late Jane Toope announce her passing at the Long Term Care Center in Corner Brook surrounded by her loving family on October 24, 2021 at the age of 87 years. Jane grew up in St. Genevieve Bay and met the love of her life, Jim Toope and started their family. Jane and Jim were blessed with 11 children, 22 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren. Jane leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, her 9 children; Rachel (Steve), Judy (Tom), Roy (Rhoda), Andrew (Flora), Eileen (Sterling), Reginald (Kathy), Beulah (Joe), Dorcas (Dan), Jackie (Derek); 22 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; Son-in-law and Daughter-in-law, Yvonne Toope and Wyman Mitchelmore as well as a large circle of extended family and friends.
She is predeceased by her parents, Edith and John Gibbons; Husband, James Toope; In-laws, William and Caroline Toope; Daughter, Minnie Mitchelmore; Son, James Toope Jr.; Grandsons, Wayne Mitchelmore and Roy Toope Jr.; Brothers, Abraham (Judy) Gibbons; Jim Gibbons, Roy Gibbons.
The family would like to send a special thanks to the entire staff on the 4 South long term care in Corner Brook for the kindness & compassion they showed our mom Jane over the past 2 1/2 years.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Public Visitations with social distancing. The funeral will be held on Thursday, October 28, 2021 at 3:00 pm from the Church of the Advent in Plum Point with Rev. Lorne Gosse officiating. September 18, 1954 – September 11, 2020 It is with heavy hearts that the family of the late Ruby Dredge announce her passing on Friday, September 11, 2020 at the Health Science Center in St. John’s at the age of 65 years. The one thing Ruby loved more than anything in the world was her family. She did her best to take care of them. Ruby was a very strong, quiet, gentle woman with a great sense of humor. She was an active member on numerous committees and was dedicated to representing her own community along with neighbouring communities. Although she struggled with her illness the past seven months, she would never complain and she accepted what each day brought to her with a positive attitude. She will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her, especially her husband, Jacob; Sons, Tyson (Josephine), Trevor (Christa); Grandson, Reed; Siblings, Matthew, Leslie; Nieces and Nephews; Sister-in-law’s, Hazel, Martha Jane, Elizabeth; Brother-in-law’s, Isaac (Edith), Edward (Blanche); Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins. She was predeceased by her son, Jacob Gregory; her granddaughter Cierra; and her parents, Samuel and Amy Randell. The family extends their heartfelt thanks and appreciation for all the support they have received throughout Ruby’s illness. They are especially thankful for the care she received from the staff at the Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony and the staff at the Health Science Center in St. Johns. Viewing will take place on Wednesday, September 16, 2020 from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm at St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Black Duck Cove, NL. The funeral will begin at 2:00 pm with Rev. John McGonigle officiating. Interment will take place in the United Cemetery in Black Duck Cove, following the service. GAULTON, BERTHA JANE

May 20, 1963 – March 7, 2020
Bertha Jane Gaulton was born in Main Brook on May 20th, 1963 to Walter and Caroline Gaulton. She was one of ten children. Bertha Jane was fun loving and kind. She loved hanging out laundry and spent many hours doing so. She also loved music. Bertha Jane loved going for rides with her brother, Lester to the airport; she loved watching the planes landing and taking off as well as the caribou. Bertha Jane also enjoyed going to the garage for an ice cream that she wasn’t supposed to have and trying to hide it from her caregiver, Alice. She also loved her cat, Fluffy. She is survived by her brothers, Lester and John; Sisters, Holly and Vivian; nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, Walter and Caroline; Brothers, Francis and Barry; as well as sisters, Rosemary, Mary, and Penny. Visitation was held from St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Main Brook from where the funeral was held on Thursday, March 12, 2020 at 2:00 pm with Deacon Short officiating. Interment followed. TAYLOR, MARY JANE

April 22, 1931 - January 19, 2020

Passed away at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on January 19, 2020 at the age of 88 years. Mary Jane will always be remembered by her sons; Derek (Lily), Kevin (Judy); Grandchildren, Gurvin (Caroline Ann), Edmund (Vicki), Rochelle (Morley), Gregory (Tiffany); Great-Grandchildren, Brady, Ally, Madison, Akira, Harlow, Nathan, Jagger. Mary Jane was predeceased by her Husband, Gordon; Parents John and Mary Margaret Pittman; Siblings, John Pittman, Deborah Toope, Maude Chambers; Brothers and Sisters in Law, Oliver Topper, James Chambers, John Crane, Mary Ann Pittman, Ruth Pittman; and special friend Annie Gillingham. Visitation was held from St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Black Duck Cove from where the funeral was held on Friday, January 24, 2020 at 11:00 am with Rev. Jennifer Renouf officiating. KEATS, SARAH JANE (nee Mitchelmore)

April 27, 1929 – October 7, 2019

Passed away October 7, 2019 at the age of 90 years. Sarah Jane was born in Green Island Cove on April 27, 1929. She moved to St. Anthony when she was a little girl where she lived in the orphanage until she met the love of her life, Joseph Keats. They were married in St. Anthony on August 19, 1948 at St. Mary’s Anglican Church. Together they raised 7 children; 4 girls and 3 boys. She leaves to mourn with a lifetime of memories, her children; Lydia (David), Bonnie, Ellen (Calvin), Samuel (Barbara), Edna (John), Joseph (Nancy), and David (Karen); as well as 15 grandchildren (special granddaughter Deanne), 24 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Jane is predeceased by her husband, Joseph; Mother, Lydia; Father, Richard; Sister, Ellen; Brothers, Churchill, Malcolm, and Theophilius. Visitation to be held form Kerry M. FIllatre’s Funeral Home ion St. Anthony beginning Tuesday, October 8, 2019 from 7-9 pm and will continue on Wednesday, October 9, 2019 from 2-4 pm with the family service taking place at 7:30 pm. The funeral will take place on Thursday, October 10, 2019 at 11:00 AM from St. Mary’s Anglican Church in St. Anthony with Rev. Katie Taylor-Flynn officiating.

passed away on November 14th, 2017 at the John M. Gray Centre in St. Anthony at the age of 96 years. She leaves to mourn her Children Violet (Norman), Reginald, Joyce, Ada (Gerald), Joe (Lelvie), Ron (Wavey), Wayne, Gorvin (Mary Jane), Elmer (Arleen) as well as a large circle of Grandchildren, Great-grandchildren, and extended family. She was predeceased by her Husband Allan; Son Ross; Granddaughters Sonya and Tonya; Parents Ruth and William; Brothers Clyde, Lambert, Sidney, George William, Douglas; Sister Violet; and son-in-law Melvin Bown. Visitation was held from Lower Cove Anglican Church from where the funeral was held on November 17th, 2017 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Omar officiating.
