Passed away peacefully in the presence of his family at the Curtis Memorial Hospital, St. Anthony, NL on June 13, 2024,  Mr. Gerald Daniel Fitzgerald

Predeceased by his wife Ellen (Nellie), his son Stan, daughter Helena, grandson Trevor and his sister Evangeline.

Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his children; Mary (Henry), Linda, Judy (Paul), Elizabeth (Michael). His siblings; Ida, Alicia, Stan, and Annie. Ten grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, one great great grandchild. Special cousin Dan. As well as a large circle of nieces/nephews and extended family and friends. 

The family would like to thank the staff at the Curtis Memorial Hospital for the excellent care and comfort to Gerald and the family. 

Visitation will take place from the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 from 7-9 PM. The funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at 11:00 AM with Fr. George officiating. Interment to follow.

Died peacefully on Monday, April 17, 2023, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, Nova Scotia, at the age of 78. Loving husband of Trudy (O'Keefe) and father of Charlene (John), Gretchen (Mark), Catherine (Rick) and Will (Laura). Grandfather of Daniel, David, Sophia, Abush, Caroline, Alex, Nolan, Lucy, and Julia.

Born in Toronto on October 14, 1944, he was the son of the late Evelyn (Cooper) and Gerry Fitzgerald. Brother of Geralyn, Tim and the late Greg.

Bill spent his professional life as a rural general surgeon in St Anthony, NL. In the past he was President of the Canadian Association of General Surgeons and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He was appointed a member of the Order of Canada in 2008. Recently he was Chairman of B.O.L.D. in Baddeck, NS. He loved his family, his work as a rural general surgeon in Northern Newfoundland and Labrador, and sailing on his Concordia Yawl, Tosca.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. A funeral service for Bill will be held in St. Anthony, NL, at 11:00 am, Saturday, April 29, at St Mary's Anglican Church. Reception at B.O.L.D. in Baddeck, NS at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of choice.

Visitation is being held at the Apostolic Faith Church in Englee form January 11th, 2023 through to the funeral service, officiated by pastor Michael Ivney, at 11am on Thursday January 12th, 2023. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Gerald Maxwell Coles announces his peaceful passing at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital surrounded by family on July 22, 2020 at the age of 84 years. February 14, 1940 – August 20, 2019

Passed away August 20, 2019 at the age of 79 years. He leaves to mourn his wife, Ada; Children Brian (Peggy), Todd; Grandchildren, Chloe, Jeffrey; Brothers, Calvin (Mabel), Claude (Sylvia), Roland (Kizzie), Weston (Marilyn); Sisters Meg, Eileen (Martin), Stella (George), Amelia (Ronald), Gaye (Bill), & Jill; and many friends. Gerald was predeceased by his Mom and Dad, Stella and Caleb Whalen. Visitation was held from St. Mary’s Anglican Church in St. Anthony from where the funeral took place on August 26th, 2019 with Rev. BYRNE, JERRY ALPHAOUS

Feb. 25, 1962 - March 16, 2019

Passed tragically away in Conche on March 16th, 2019 at the age of 57 years. Jerry was a man of many talents. He was a fisherman, woodsman, carpentry, tour guide to tourist and friend to all. He loved to talk and took the time to speak to everyone he met and always said hello. He loved music and dancing. He leaves to mourn his Mother, Ellen; brothers Garrett (Selina), Michael (Bernice), Kenneth; Sisters Christine (Matt), Frances (Gary), Elsie (Bob), Doreen (Jean-Guy), Margaret (Bill). Jerry will be lovingly remembered by his many nieces & nephew, extended family and circle of friends. Jerry was predeceased by his father William Byrne, brothers Clifford, Robert and William and Nephew Jeremy Scott. Visitation was held from the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Conche until the funeral on Friday, March 22, 2019 at 11:00 am with Fr. George officiating. Interment followed. RICKS, GERALD DUNCAN

Passed away on June 2, 2016 at the age of 81 years. Gerald Ricks was born on September 3, 1934 in Goose Cove to Frances & Darius Ricks. On October 27, 1958, he married Carmel Bromley and together they raised eleven children. Gerald was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Gerald had a variety of work experiences in his life. They included logging, fishing, carpentry, construction, and heavy equipment operator. He could turn his hand to anything- I guess we would consider him a “jack of all trades.” Gerald had a unique ability to tell stories about things that happened in his life and the many people he met along life’s journey. In his retirement, Gerald enjoyed spending time in his gardens and ski-doing in winter. He loved driving his truck and spending time on the community wharf. He also loved his “morning meetings” in Edward Reardon’s stage. As well, he always looked forward to visiting his sister, Angela and husband Ron every Sunday morning. In 2003, Gerald met Juanita Powell and for the past 13 years have had a very happy and fulfilled life together. He will be sadly missed by all his family and friends. He leaves to mourn his Children Nellie, Judy (Cyril), Philomena (Ralph), Joyce, Sharon (Steve), Daphne, Geraldine (Todd), Ross (Melissa), Roy (Treena), Ron (Heather), Robert; Partner Juanita and her children Todd and Marilyn; 19 Grandchildren; 3 Great- Grandchildren; his lovable buddy Wince, and a large circle of family and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Carmel, parents Darius & Francis Ricks; Brother Ron; Sisters Eileen and Theresa; Son-in-law Bill; and Grandson Justin. Visitation was held a Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home in St. Anthony. The funeral was held in the Roman Catholic Church in Goose Cove at 11:00 am on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 with Fr. Vitus Echedo officiating. Interment followed.
