MACWHIRTER, FRANK GERALD

Passed away into peaceful rest in his 70th year, Mr. Frank Gerald MacWhirter of Englee NL on the 6th Day of January 2023. Being no stranger to loss himself, Frank was predeceased by his Wife – Bessie MacWhirter, Parents – Frank & Olive MacWhirter, Sisters – Judith Ann, Louise & Debbie, Brothers – Robert & Patrick, Father-in-law – Lester Cull, Mother-in-law – Maude Cull, Sister-in-law – Myrtle Cull.

Visitation is being held at the Apostolic Faith Church in Englee form January 11th, 2023 through to the funeral service, officiated by pastor Michael Ivney, at 11am on Thursday January 12th, 2023. Burial will follow the service in the Church Community Cemetery. Funeral Arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatres Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Alicia Patey Funeral Director.

SLADE, ALFRED FRANK

May 13, 1930 - July 17, 2022

Frank was born on May 13, 1930 at Lushes Bight, Notre Dame Bay to John and Laura Slade. At the age of 4 Frank moved with his family to St. Anthony where he grew up. At an early age Frank started working on the Grenfell Mission and then later fishing on several different boats. He also had several jobs in his younger years at Goose Bay, Toronto and North Carolina.

While in North Carolina he almost got drafted into the US Army to fight in the Korean War. He had to decide between going in the US Army or returning to Canada, which he decided to return to Canada. On returning to Canada he met up with his buddy Don Penney in Toronto who was in the Canadian Army and he enlisted in the Canadian Army for the Korean War. Frank was a sergeant and paratrooper in the War. After the War Frank stayed in the military for a short time before being honourably discharged.

He worked for a short time in Toronto as a police officer before returning to Newfoundland and Labrador. Frank married Clara Patey on October 3, 1961 at Happy Valley/Goose Bay. He worked as an heavy equipment operator in Schefferville and Sagelak before returning to St. Anthony where he worked with Lundrigan’s on the roads being built on the Northern Peninsula. He then worked as the wharfinger at the government wharf in St. Anthony for many years before working as a commissioner at the airport until he retired.

In his younger years Frank loved hunting, fishing and out in boat. He was Lieutenant of the Canadian Rangers in St. Anthony for many years. He also loved animals especially his cats. Frank was a dedicated military man and this was evident to all who had a chance to talk to him.

Frank passed away on July 17, 2022 at the John M Gray Center at the age of 92 years.

He is survived by his Brother, Norman (Dorothy); Sisters, Maude (Jim) Delaney, Jessie (Bruce) Rye, Joyce Cull; Brothers in Law, Louden (Druscilla) Patey, Hedley (Marina) Patey, Ron (Pam) Patey, Ralph (Sally) Patey; Sisters in Law, Mary Slade, Kitty Slade, Victoria Marshall; Nephew, Jeffrey (Janette) Slade; Niece, Phyllis (Neil) Ireland; Close Friends Mary and William Patey as well as many other family members and friends.

He is predeceased by his Wife, Clara; Parents, John and Laura Slade; Brothers, Cyril Slade, Raymond Slade, Eric Slade; Sister, Marg Rickett; Brother in Law, Ron Cull, Robert Rickett; Sister in Law, Ellen Slade.

The family would like to thank the staffs of Shirley’s Haven Personal Care Home, Charles Curtis Hospital and John M Gray Centre for providing care and comfort over the past 4 years.

Public visitation to be held at Kerry M Fillatre Funeral Home in St. Anthony from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 and from 2-4 pm and 7-8 pm on Thursday, July 21, 2022. A private family visitation will take place on Thursday at 8:00 pm. The funeral service will be held from the St. Anthony United Church at 2:00 pm on Friday, July 22, 2022. Interment to follow. CUNARD, FRANK

March 10, 1936 - August 10, 2021

Passed away August 10, 2021 at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital at the age of 85 years. Frank was an avid berry picker, there is nothing he loved more than to be on the marsh picking berries. His family was everything to him. In particular, his children and grandchildren were his life. He spent hours looking at pictures of his 10 month old Great Grandson, Lucas. He was also a life time Montreal Canadians fan.
He is forever loved and remembered by the love of his life, his Wife; Alfreda (Allingham) Cunard; Son. Blake (Linda) Cunard of Brig Bay.; Daughters, Virginia (Al) Arseneault of Fredericton, NB, Roxanne (Doug) Follett of Drayton Valley, Alberta; Chosen daughter, Laura (Robbie) Humber of Spruce Grove, Alberta; Sister in law, Marjorie (Mathias) Osborne, Brig Bay, NL; Brother in law, Pius (Linda) Allingham of Brig Bay, NL; Grandchildren, Hayley Cunard of St John’s, NL, Nathan Cunard of Brig Bay, NL, Michaela Cunard of Fredericton, NB, Astra Follett of Drayton Valley, Alberta, Parker and Easton Humber of Spruce Grove, Alberta; Great Grandson Lucas Vance of Fredericton, NB; Brother: Cecil (Lillian) Moores of Brig Bay, NL.; Nephew, Danny Pittman, who was very special to him, as well as many other nephews, nieces, and friends. He was loved by many.
He is predeceased by his parents Hubert Cunard and Winnifred Cunard; Sister, Lillian (Cunard) Pittman; Brother, Stanley Cunard. Visitation to take place from the Church of the Advent Anglican Church in Plum Point on Thursday, August 12, 2021 from where the funeral will be held on Friday, August 13, 2021 at 11:00 am with Rev. Gosse officiating. Interment to follow in the Pond Cove Anglican Cemetery. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Kerry M. EARLE, FRANK SPENCER

April 19, 1939 – November 13, 2018

Passed away on November 13th, 2018 from Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 79 years. Frank Spencer Earle was born on April 18th, 1939 to Alice and William Earle. He was the baby of the family and loved by all. On March 6, 1962 he married Mary Saunders who was the love of his life and his constant companion. Together they raised six children. He was proud to build his own home and provide for his family in employment such as Bus Driver, Construction Workers, Hydro Diesel Operator, and Maintenance Equipment Operator for the town of St. Lunaire-Griquet. Above all else his favourite career was fishing with his sons. Frank was a man of honesty and integrity who loved chatting and having a laugh. His greatest joy was spending time having a meal with his family, especially when it included his grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. Frank was a man of faith who loved and served the Lord and who left a Christian heritage for his family to follow. Frank leaves to mourn with a lifetime of memories, his Wife, Mary Earle; Sons, Danny (Linda), Junior (Maxine), Scott (Lori); Daughters, Loni (Keon), Faye (Mark), Diane (Robert); Sisters, Marsha Pilgrim, Rita Saunders, Joyce Patey; 13 Grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and a large number of other relatives and friends. Frank was predeceased by his Parents, Alice and William Earle; Granddaughter Charli; Brothers, Charles, Harvey, Augustus; Sisters, Martha, Agnes, and Blanche. Visitation was held from the Pentecostal Faith Tabernacle in St. Lunaire-Griquet from where the funeral was held on Friday, November 16th, 2018 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Bill Harnum officiating.
