CULL, MARGARET ELIZABETH (Nee Garrick)

Born March 7th, 1952 in Goderich Ontario, to William and Kathleen Garrick. She became, as she always said, a Newfoundlander in 1970 when she moved home with the love of her life, Norman. They were married on January 15th, 1971 in Great Brehat where the lived and raised their family.

Margaret was loved by so many. She was a devoted Wife, Mother, Nana, Friend and Instructor. Her 3 Angel Girls and her 6 Precious Grandchildren were her entire life. Her heart was as big as the sky, and everyone was allowed to be a part of our Family; she taught her Girls and Grandkiddies to be the same. If you knew her, you loved her! She will watch over each and every one of us. She is now our forever Heavenly Angel. She was the last to be born of her family and the last to arrive for that heavenly Garrick Reunion in the Sky! If we listen we can hear the laughter, the fun and the love they have renewed! The perfect Angel has her own wings.

She leaves to mourn, her loving husband Norman, Three Angel Girls; Lavinia (Jason), Connie (Perry), Norma (Stephen). Her six precious Grandchildren; Skyla, Connor, Dominick, Maggie, Ethan and Rachel.

Also left to mourn are her many loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, family, friends and endless people who cherished her. She will be missed by so many.

Margaret is predeceased by her Mother; Kathleen Annie, Father; William Joseph, Sister; June, Brother; Murray, Sister; Clara, Brother; Billy, Brother; Percy, Brother; George, Brother; John. Visitation to take place from Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Home in St. Anthony from 2-4 and 7-9 pm on Saturday, November 26, 2022. The funeral service will take place on Sunday, November 27, 2022 at 10:00 am from the St. Antony Salvation Army Church with Major Stokes officiating. Interment to follow.

CULL, GLOSSEN BLOOMFIELD

August 16, 1938 - November 1, 2022

Passed away November 1, 2022 at the age of 84 years.

He leaves to mourn with a lifetime of loving memories are his sons, Terry Cull and Gordon Cull; daughters-in-law, Tara Cull and Vanessa Simms as well as 7 grandchildren; Kyle, Terran, Ashley, Jesse, Rowan, Shelby and Halle. He also leaved to mourn his brother, Melvin Cull as well as a large circle of extended family and friends.

Glossen is predeceased by his Wife, Rita; Daughter, Judy; Siblings, Harold, Blanche, Ross, Kharis, Gord, Selma, Verna; and Parents, Abel and Martha Cull.

Cremation has taken place.A Celebration of Life for the late Glossen Cull will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at 2:00 pm from the United Church in St. Anthony with Pastor Jeff Elliott officiating. Interment to follow.

CULL-SAUNDERS, DOROTHY MAUDE (nee Gillard)

August 2, 1930 - March 29, 2022

Passed peacefully away on March 29, 2022 surrounded by family at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital at the age of 91 years.

Maude was a lady who loved life and church. She surrounded herself with family, friends, and strangers alike. She was well known for her little sayings and quotes by all who had the privilege to know her.

She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, Children, Freeman (Glenda), Larry (Bessie), Wesley (Charlene), Ada (Donald) Weir, Morris (Josephine), Cindy (Hughie) Crewe, Winnie (David) Power; Grandson, raised as her own, Richard (Tina); Stepson, Stanley (Donna) Simms; Son-in-law, Frank MacWhirter; Sister-in-law, Verna Gillard, 21 Grandchildren, 16 Great-grandchildren, 1 Great-great-grandchild as well as a large circle of extended family and friends.

Maude was predeceased by her husband, Lester Cull (1982); Second Husband, John Saunders; Daughter, Bessie MacWhirter; Daughter-in-law, Myrtle Cull; Parents, Frederick and Bessie Gillard; Brothers, Baxter and Frederick Gillard Jr.; and Sisters, Pearl Keefe, Stella Compton, and Lucy Tetford.

Public visitation to take place at the Apostolic Faith Church in Englee on Friday, April 1, 2022 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. CULL, RONALD WILLIAM

March 13, 1939 - December 16, 2020

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a very special man, Ronald (Ron) William Cull. Ron was born in St. Anthony on March 13, 1939 to Uriah and Lavinia (Pilgrim) Cull. Ron lived all of his life in Great Brehat until he moved into the John M. Gray Centre approximately 3 years ago. He was the second of eight children. Ron is predeceased by his daughter Kathleen Cull, his parents Uriah and Lavinia Cull, his brother Wallace Cull and his two sisters Beatrice Cull and Ethel Ward. Ron is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Joyce Cull; his sons: Scott (Veronica) Cull, Morgan Cull (Joanna), and Frank Cull (Darlene); 6 grandchildren: Luke Cull (Shawna), Trevor Elliott (Tara), Robert Cull (Samantha), Rodney Elliott (Katie), Kathy Cull (Marcus), and Jenny Brown; 7 great-grandchildren; his siblings: Pearl Patey, Pearce Cull, Norman (Margaret) Cull, and Carl (Lillian) Cull; and a large number of nieces, nephews, and friends. Ron was a Jack of all trades, from the fishing boat to labor work and everything in between. He was a security guard at the Viking Mall in St. Anthony for 19 years and was a dedicated member of the LOL Lodge in St. Anthony for 50+ years. Ron was a devoted accordion player who truly loved to entertain and play music for any audience. Ron along with his two brothers Norman and Pearce and very close friends Jerry Kean, Will Whyatt, and Will Joe Simmonds were members of a local band called The Pumper Boys. The band entertained many people all over the Northern Peninsula and across Southern Labrador for many years. Ron was an avid volunteer who spent countless hours volunteering for many organizations and seniors homes. Ron contributed greatly to his family, friends, and community. He was a very well known man who always thought of others before himself.

The family extends a heartfelt thank-you to the nursing staff at the John. M. Gray Centre in St. Anthony where Ron resided for almost 3 years. Their professionalism and empathy during Ron’s stay, day in and day out, did not go unnoticed.

CULL, LORIE

September 5, 1926– October 28, 2018

Passed away October 28, 2018 at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital at the age of 92 years. She leaves to mourn with a lifetime of memories, her Brother Bill; Children, Annie (Lloyd), Aubrey (Judy), May (Reg), Jean (Bruce), Roger (Audrey), Marie (Tony), Sharron (John), Yvonne (Ed), Renee (Neil), and Randy; 24 grandchildren; 29 greatgrandchildren; 2 great-greatgrandchildren; as well as a large circle of family and friends. Mrs. Cull is predeceased by her husband, Freeman Cull; Son, Calvin Cull; Parents, Jessie and Aubrey Saunders; and ten of her siblings. Visitation was held from Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home in St. Anthony. The funeral took place from St. Mary’s Anglican Church in St. Anthony on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Katie Taylor-Flynn officiating. CULL, DULCIE LILLIAN

Dulcie (Simms) Cull was born to Harrison and Annie (Saunders) Simms on June 27, 1934 in St. Anthony Bight. On March 5, 1952 she married Maxwell Cull of Brehat.  They lived in St. Anthony Bight and raised their family.  Dulcie was a hardworking woman who took care of her family as well as working at FPI for more than 35 years.  She was a faithful member of the United Church, a Life Member of UCW and a member of the LOBA. Dulcie lived her life in St. Anthony Bight until illness forced her to take up residence at the John M. Gray Centre where she passed peacefully away the early morning of January 7th, 2018 at the age of 83 years.  She will be sadly missed.  Dulcie is survived by her children Stanley (Donna), Joan, Will, Holly (Vernon), Ken (Sue), Danny (Angela), Todd (Lisa), and Trent (Brandi).  She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild, her sister in law Maisie and brother in law Melvin and many other family members and friends.  She was predeceased by her husband Maxwell, grandson Aaron, her parents Harrison and Annie, Brother Clem, Sister Ivy and chosen sisters Rebecca and Bessie Pilgrim. Visitation was held from Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home in St. Anthony until the funeral on January 11th, 2018 at 2:00 pm from the St. Anthony United Church with Rev. John McGonigle officiating. CULL, VICTORIA MARY

Victoria Mary Cull was born to David and Naomi Hodge of Main Brook. She married Frederick Cull or Great Brehat on June 18th, 1960 and had four children; Nancy Hickey (Todd), Elijah Cull (Lucinda), David Cull (Isabella) and Jackie Pilgrim (Lloyd). She leaves to mourn brother; Don Hodge (Irene), 2 sons, 2 daughters, 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and extended family. Pre-deceased by husband Frederick Cull, Brother Gordon Hodge and parents David and Naomi Hodge. Visitation took place at the Funeral Home in St. Anthony from which the funeral service was held at 2:00pm on the 10th day of April 2016 with Rev. Dinesh Gomes officiating. MACWHIRTHER, BESSIE

Bessie MacWhirter, (neé Cull); was born at St. Anthony on October 31, 1950. She was daughter to Lester and Maude Cull of Englee. Bess, as she was commonly known, was the second of eight siblings of the Cull family. She completed her schooling at the United Church School in her hometown. She was quite astute and took first place in the last three years of her hometown education. Actually she skipped one of her early grades allowing her to complete her grade 11 at age 15. She then went on to teach school at 16 years of age. Her first teaching post was at St. Anthony Bight. Here she taught students older than herself and as Bess would say ‘’bigger too’’.Her first employment at Englee was playground attendant the first year the playground opened in this town. After her stint as a teacher she went on to St. John’s and studied as a lab technician. She found employment with Grenfell Medical Services at St. Anthony and subsequently did work at North West River and Baie Verte. Later she moved to Corner Brook hospital and then on to Gander where she was head tech and supervisor for the Central general area. Because of her extensive training she was used as a resource person to teach other trainees. Due to her husbands’ work as a long-hall trucker she moved to Leduc, Alberta where she found employment at the Devon Medical Lab. Her total employment counted 28 years of dedicated service. Actually Bess could be counted on to respond to a medical emergency any hour of the 24; come sun, rain, or blizzard.  Bess passed away 2:15pm on November 7, 2015 at the Roddickton Health Center. She leaves to mourn, her husband Frank; sons Richard (Tina), Frank Jr. (Lori); daughter Rebecca; grandchildren, Rebecca, Nicholas, and Keesha; Brothers, Freeman (Glenda), Larry (Bessie), Wesley (Myrtle), and Morris (Josephine); sisters, Ada (Donald Weir), Cindy (Hughie Crewe), Winne (David Power); mother Maude; brothers in law, Alfred (Rose), and Patrick (Joanne); Step Brother Stanley Simms (Donna) and best friend of 46 years, Barbara Chaulk, along with many other friends and family. Bessie was predeceased by her father, Lester Cull.Visitation was held at the Apostolic Faith Church in Englee from where funeral services were held at 2:00pm on Thursday, November 12th, 2015. Internment followed at the Apostolic Faith Cemetery in Englee with Pastor George Burton officiating. Funeral Services were entrusted to Kerry M. CULL, RITA CARMEN

Passed away into peace on the 28th of February 2015 at the Health Science Center in St. John’s, Mrs. Rita C. Cull of St. Anthony in her 71st year. Left to mourn her loss are her husband Glossen Cull, daughter Judy Cull, Sons Terry and Gordon Cull; daughters in law Tara Cull and Vanessa Simms, 6 grandchildren, Sister Sandra Sinyard and Brothers Jim and William Sinyard as well as a large circle of family and friends. Visitation was held at the Funeral home in St. Anthony, after which the funeral service was held at the Salvation Army Church at 2:00pm on the 8th of March 2015 with Major Kathleen Baggs Officiating, burial will take place at a later date. CULL, GRETA OLIVE

Passed peacefully away at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital on the 28th day of August 2014. Mrs. Greta Olive Cull of St. Anthony was in her 66th year. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her husband Ernest, Daughter, Kristin(Rich), beloved Grandson Ethan, family dog and friend Molly, Sisters Marjorie (Eric), Christina(Ian), Brothers Chester(Elsie) and Keith, Brothers In Law Albert(Jo), Gary(Irene), Gus(Cora), Benson(Daphne), Roy(Joyce), Sister in Law Dorothy(Dennis) as well as a number of nieces, nephews and a large circle of friends. She was predeceased by her Father Joseph Slade, Mother Rita Slade, Brother Ronald, Sister Rose and Mother-in-law Dora. Visitation was held at the funeral home in St. Anthony followed the funeral service which took place at 2:00pm on the 31st day of August 2014 with Rev. John McGonigle Officiating.
