STRICKLAND, BLANCHE

Passed peacefully away in the presence of her family, at the age of 94, Blanche Ada (Hillier) Strickland, on January 07th, 2024, at the Charles Curtis Memorial Hospital.

Blanche is predeceased by her parents, Clara & Moses Patey, her first husband, Malcolm Hillier, 4 children: Boyce, Dexter, Clyde & Arch; 2 Grandchildren, Amanda (Patey) Swinimer & Dereck Maurais; siblings: Louise, Jacob, Una, Gideon, Clarence, Greta, Archibald & Lloyd.

She is leaving to mourn with fond & loving memories, her husband of 50 years, Ronald; Children: Gloria (Job), Hazel (John), Judy (Bruce), Goldie (Dennis), Bryan (Alma), Tony (Linda), Fern (Bill), Dereck (Patty), Morgan (Lisa) & Kaye (Sherman); Daughters -in-Law, Beverley (Clyde) & Beverley (Arch); 24 Grandchildren & 23 Great Grandchildren; In Laws, Dulcie (Dalton), Edna, Edna, Audrey, Melvina, Pearl (Scott), Hubert (Evelyn) & Roy (Mable); and a large circle of extended family and friends.

Blanche married Malcolm Hillier in 1945 at Quirpon, NL and they raised their family together until his sudden passing in 1962. She continued to raise and support her family alone until she met and married Ronald Strickland in 1973. They moved to St. Anthony where they continued to raise their family, including their only daughter together, Kaye. Blanche was a hard-working woman as a Domestic Helper, Fish Plant Worker and Mother of 12.

Her favorite pastimes included knitting, crocheting, walking, berry picking, trouting, a good crossword puzzle and scratch tickets. Blanche lived and enjoyed life simply with her family that she dearly loved until dementia gradually stole her away from us over the past few years.

Special thanks to the staff of the Charles Curtis Memorial Hospital for the special care they provided over these past months.

Visitation is being held at the Salvation Army Church in St. Anthony beginning Tuesday January 9th form 2-4 pm and 7-9pm, Wednesday January 10th 2-4pm and 7-9pm followed by the Funeral service at 2pm on Thursday January 11th with Majors Morgan and Lisa Hillier officiating with support form Major Anthony Stokes and Major Beverley Dart Stokes. Burial will held at the St. Anthony Salvation Army Community Cemetery following the service.

TWYNE, BLANCHE (Nee Moores)

December 2, 1948 - August 26, 2023

Blanche Was born on December 2, 1948 in Forteau, Labrador to the parents of the late Thomas and Martha Moores.

After completing high school, she moved to Grandfalls where she obtained her certificate as an LPN. After nursing in several outport villages in Labrador, she moved to St Anthony in 1970, it was there where she met George Twyne the love of her life.

She was then blessed with two beautiful children Colinda and Lenny, whom she loved unconditionally. Blanche devoted her life to her career, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and to many many more. To them she was their loving aunt B.

Her respect for nature was passed along to all through countless adventures. Her smile, her laugh, her love for life will continue on forever with her countless surviving family, friends and those whose lives she touched .

Blanche leaves to mourn with a lifetime of memories, Her children: Colinda (Warren), Lenny (Lorie); Her grandchildren: Rikkie, David, Rikita; and her darling great grandchildren: Peyton and Drayden; Brother: Richmond'; Sister: Thelma (Hubert), as well as a large circle of nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.

She was pre deceased by her late husband: George Twyne; her parents: Martha and Thomas Moores; her brother: Harry Moores; Her parents in law Herbert and Cinderella Twyne; her sister in laws: Judy Moores, Alma Francis Twyne, Elsie Moores; Brothers in law: Barry Newell, Robert Small, Stafford Cooper, Alonzo Twyne, as well as many other extended family and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at 2:00 PM from the Bethel Pentecostal Church in St. Anthony with Pastor Jeff Elliott officiating. Interment to follow in the United Cemetery.

KINSELLA, BLANCHE

Passed away peacefully February 24th, 2017 at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital at the age of 93 years. She leaves to mourn her children Gilbert (Mary), Wilfred (Georgina), Albert (Ellen), Emma (Byron), Arthur (Belinda); brothers Wilfred (Emma), Charles (Bertha), as well as a large circle of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, family, and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, husband Arthur, son Clement, and granddaughter Lois. Visitation was held at Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home in St. Anthony. The funeral took place from St. Mary’s Anglican Church on February 27, 2017 at 2:00 p, with Rev. Katie Flynn officiating. Interment followed in the new Anglican Cemetery. Funeral Arrangements entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard Funeral Director.

BURT, BLANCHE EFFIE

Passed away peacefully at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital on the 30th of January 2015, Mrs. Blanche Effie Burt of St. Anthony in her 93rd year. Blanche leaves to mourn her loss; her daughter Marilyn, grandchildren Christopher and Heidi, Special nephew/niece Roland and Effie, Special Niece/ Husband Gloria and Doug, Special nephew/ Wife Vince and Jessie, Brother in law Cecil Burt, special friends Evelyn Walker and Vera Colbourne. She is predeceased by her Husband Reuben, Son in law Tony, Parents William and Susan Coates, brothers Nathaniel Coates, John Thomas Coates, William Coates, Gorden Coates, Thomas Coates and Philip Coates, Sisters Alice Mitchelmore, Rebecca Diamond, Lorie Parrill, Margaret Coates, Mary Elizabeth Caines, Eliza McLean, Sarah Jane Gibbons and Amy McLean, In laws James and Winnifred Burt, Sister in laws Minnie Compton and Mary Ann Patey. Visitation was held at the Funeral home in St. Anthony, after which the Funeral Service took place at the Salvation army Church in St. Anthony at 2:00pm on Wednesday February 4th, 2014 with Major Dinzel Baggs Officiating.  Funeral arrangements where entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatres Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Siobhan Mauger Funeral Director. 

PATEY, PHYLLIS BLANCHE

Phyllis was born to Josiah and Winnifred Kearley of Sop’s Arm, NL. She married Archibald Patey of little Brehat on July 18th, 1945. They raised ten children happily together in St. Anthony. Phyllis loved to cook, bake, knit, and especially sing and spend time with her grandchildren. Phyllis passed away in to perfect peace with her family around her at the John M. Gray Center in St. Anthony on the 4th of September, 2014 at the age of 87 years. Left with a lifetime of loving memories are her sons Rex (Leah), Don (Masie), Terry (Karen), Randy (Mary), Glenn (Gail), Kirby (Glennis) her Daughters Thelma (Lew), Judy (Ernie), Daughter in law Millicent, 25 Grandchildren and 26 Great- Grandchildren, she will be forever loved and sadly missed by all her knew her. Phyllis lived to see the passing of her Husband Archibald Patey, her sons Dennis Patey and Darren Patey and her granddaughter Treena Patey.  Visitation was held at the Pentecostal Church in St. Anthony, from which the funeral service took place at 2:00pm on Saturday September 6th with Pastor Jeff Bessey officiating. Burial followed in the St. Anthony Pentecostal Cemetery. Funeral Arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatres Funeral Home, St. Anthony NL, Siobhan Mauger Funeral Director. 

WOODWARD, BLANCHE

Passed peacefully away at the John M. Gray Centre on May 24, 2014. Mrs. Blanche Woodward of Boat Harbour, in her 96th year. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her daughter Una (Gerald); sons Enos (Bessie) and Clyde (Patty); daughter-in-law Rowena; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren as well as a large circle of other family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Nathaniel, daughter Rowena, son Gerald, her parents Henry and Susan and a number of brother and sisters. Visitation was held at the St. Mark’s Anglican Church in Boat Harbour from where the funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27 with Rev. Mark O. Wilkoff officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery in Boat Harbour. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Siobhan Mauger, funeral director.
