MYERS, GERARD JOSEPH

Gerard Joseph Myers, 63, of Bird Cove, NL, passed away on September 4, 2024 in Bird Cove.

Gerard was born in Bird Cove to Uriah & Alice Myers on July 6, 1961. He went to high school at St. Augustine’s Central High and graduated in 1980. He went on to earn a degree at the College of Trades and Technology in 1981. He enjoyed many hobbies including rebuilding his corvette, playing darts, carpentry, and most of all his music. Gerard was a very avid musician and composed and wrote his own music. He played many instruments including an acoustic and electric guitar, piano, harmonica and so forth.

Gerard is survived by his siblings: Catherine (Stan), Jean (Jimmy), Hughie (Sheila), Mike (Irene). Bernice (Stewart), Geraldine (Moses), Philomena (Larry), Leon (Darlene),and David, nieces and nephews: Chad (Chantal, Cole, Caylee), Joan (Simon, Brandon (Michelle, Dominic, Octavia, Avery) TJ), Scott (Devina), Marilyn (Toby, Braydon), Della (Murray, Natalie, Alexis, Aleah), Lionel (Denita), Tracy (Alyssa, Ashley), Andre (Nathan, Michael, Milan), Lisa (Bernie, Sasha, Patrick, Somea, Pierson), Quentin (Amanda, Kobi, Jayla), Travis (Betty, Daniel, Matthew, Benjamin), Gino, Robyn(Adam, Aliya, Caden), and Allan (Kayla, Mason, Marcus).

He is preceded in death by his father, Uriah Myers, mother, Alice Myers, sister, Joanna Myers, brother, Patrick Myers, brother-in-law, Mike Pittman, sister-in-law, Annette Myers, and nephews, Mario and Damian Mahar. Family service will be held at Our Lady Of Grace Church on Friday, Sept. 13, 2024 at 7:00PM. Rosary will be at 6:30PM.

MAY, RICHARD SIDNEY MORGAN

December 11, 1967 - April 22, 2023

It is with great sadness that the family of Richard Sidney Morgan May announce his passing at his home in Bird Cove on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at the age of 55 years. Richard was born in Roddickton, NL on December 11, 1967. 

He graduated from Evely Collegiate High, after a short stint in the Canadian Arm Forces (ROTP) he went on to Memorial University where he graduated with a B. Commerce (Accounting) Degree. He worked with Doane Raymond, Maurice Simmonds Services, Doyle Fisheries and lastly and for most of his career, Nortip Development Corporation. For a period of time he served as mayor of Bird Cove and was involved in various committees and ventures that promoted the economy and culture of the Great Northern Peninsula, which he dearly loved. 

Richard loved spending time with family and friends, especially his nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. They will always remember him saying “tickle, tickle” as he tickled them. Richard enjoyed reading, fishing, hunting, boating and was a loyal Montreal Canadians hockey fan, because it was his father’s team. He was a kind, devoted and loving son, brother, uncle and friend. His generosity had no limit. He gave above and beyond what would be expected by any one person.  

Left to mourn with fond and loving memories is his loving mother, Ursula, siblings Pauline Bartlett (Maurice) St. Anthony, NL; Paul May (Betty) Humber Valley Resort, NL;  Lynn Hunt (Randy) Port au Port, NL;  Eugene May (Madonna) Pasadena, NL; and Todd May (Cindy) St. Thomas, ON. Nieces and nephews Tennelle (Noland); Michael (Alishia); Charmayne (David); Laura (Andrew); Beverley (Joshua); Jennifer (Darren); Randall (Keshia); Andrew (Kayci) Hannah; also Jessica; Matt (Melissa) and Erin (Brandon). Grandnieces and grandnephews; Ross James, Emma, Claire, Roman, Audrey, Eli, Ivy, Ezra; Caleb, Averie, Xavier, Xomara, & Ben.

He was predeceased by his father Carl May; grandparents, Morgan and Lucy May and George and Ena Hopkins; grandnephew Ryan Blake and by other extended family members. Also loved by Beverley Ereaut and many other family and friends.

A private visitation will be held at the Apostolic faith church in roddickton Saturday morning followed by the public funeral at 2pm.

GOULD, JAMES

August 27, 1956 - November 1, 2022

It is with great sadness that the Gould family announce the passing of their brother James in Bird Cove at the age of 66 years. Jim spent most of his life at auto body repair. His interest started at a young age when he worked with Jim Coombs auto repair shop. Jim grew up in Bird Cove where he met his common law wife Levina Richards in 1990. They moved to Timmons, On in 1996. While in Timmons his step granddaughter Alicia was born and he became Poppy Jim. He returned home in 2009, where he resided in the family home. He was always surrounded by family and friends. He spent many hours doing auto repair in his own garage, accompanied by many of his friends. He always had a pleasant smile on his face that will forever be remembered.

He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his brothers: Pius(Jessie), Maxwell (Pauline), Wayne (Janet), Dean (Nadine) his sisters: Maxine (Don) , Patsy, Yvonne , special friend Imelda Mahar; Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, step children, step grandchildren, also a large circle of friends and people that knew him.

Jim was predeceased by his parents, Pius & Melina Gould; Common law wife, Levina Richards; Brothers-in-law, Jesse Gibbons & Jim Toope.

PITTMAN, PRIMUS PATRICK

PRIMUS PATRICK PITTMAN, age 91 years, of Bird Cove, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on September 9, 2022. Primus was born to James and Theresa Pittman on September 20, 1930. He married the love of his life Irene Gould On August 13, 1955. Together the happy couple live their entire life in their hometown of Bird Cove where they raised their family of four daughters and five sons.

Primus was a very hard worker all his life. He was a well respected carpenter, fisherman and woodsman and done anything necessary to provide a good life for his wife and children, who were his pride and joy. It was evident how much he loved his family in the way he spoke their names and the stories he would tell.

He will be greatly missed by his children; Desmond (Tammy), Dennis (Janet), Sharon (David), Primus (Annette), Nellie (Wally), Theresa(Prim), Lilly (Angus) and Thomas (Ciara); his grandchildren and great grandchildren Murray, Kimberly, Brock, Wesley, Ashley, Brandon, Jeremy, Felicia, Danan, Garfield, Lytora, Colton, Braden, Brianna, Cody, Jada, Jorja, Taylor, Jackson, Emily, Katie and Hailey.

He is predeceased by his wife Irene, son Martin, grandsons Anson and Josh and great grandson Jay , his parents James and Theresa and all of his siblings (as Primus was the last living member of his family).

The family would like to send special thanks to some special people. First to his grandson Murray who cared for his grandfather for many years. Murray, you did an awesome job and we are all so grateful for what you did. We knew that he was never alone and was happy to have you with him. He loved you so much. To Lilly and Angus who welcomed him into your home when he was unable to stay in his, that meant so much to all of us, thank you so much. His home care workers Theresa and Jordan, you two did an awesome job and made sure that his every need was met. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Passed away May 18th, 2019 at the age of 54, Mr. James B. Toope of Bird Cove nl. KENNEDY, DALE GERARD

passed away July 28th, 2017 at Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 60 years. Dale was born to Mark and Isabel Kennedy of Bird Cove on May 7th, 1957. At a very young age he started writing sons and playing music which he continued to do until his illness came upon him- this was his passion in life. He had many talents and was very knowledgeable. He was a gifted musician and loved jamming with his buddies on the weekends. Throughout the years he spend endless hours working on the history of his community and he co-founded the Bird Cove-Plum Point Archaeology project. For his outstanding community efforts and Archaeology work he was given the James Pendegrast Award; the highest achievement an avocational archaeologist can receive in Canada. He had a countless number of friends and was well liked by all that knew him. passed away peacefully at Curtis Memorial hospital in St. Anthony on May 11, 2017, a few weeks shy of her 78th birthday. She was born on May 30th, 1939 and lived in Bird Cove, NL. She leaves to mourn her beloved husband Primus Pittman, of 61 years, her children Tom (Ciara), Lily (Angus), Nellie (Wally), Theresa (Prim), Prim (Annette), Dennis (Janet), Sharon (David), & Desmond (Tammy), sister Mary (Victor), grandchildren Murray, Kimberley (Shannon), Jeremy (Shelley), Danan, Wesley, Felicia (Dylan), Ashley (Josh), Brandon, Lytora, Colten, Brayden, Garfield, Brock, & Brianna, great grandchildren Cody, Jada, Jorja, Taylor, & Jackson.
