STRICKLAND, BLANCHE

Passed peacefully away in the presence of her family, at the age of 94, Blanche Ada (Hillier) Strickland, on January 07th, 2024, at the Charles Curtis Memorial Hospital.

Blanche is predeceased by her parents, Clara & Moses Patey, her first husband, Malcolm Hillier, 4 children: Boyce, Dexter, Clyde & Arch; 2 Grandchildren, Amanda (Patey) Swinimer & Dereck Maurais; siblings: Louise, Jacob, Una, Gideon, Clarence, Greta, Archibald & Lloyd.

She is leaving to mourn with fond & loving memories, her husband of 50 years, Ronald; Children: Gloria (Job), Hazel (John), Judy (Bruce), Goldie (Dennis), Bryan (Alma), Tony (Linda), Fern (Bill), Dereck (Patty), Morgan (Lisa) & Kaye (Sherman); Daughters -in-Law, Beverley (Clyde) & Beverley (Arch); 24 Grandchildren & 23 Great Grandchildren; In Laws, Dulcie (Dalton), Edna, Edna, Audrey, Melvina, Pearl (Scott), Hubert (Evelyn) & Roy (Mable); and a large circle of extended family and friends.

Blanche married Malcolm Hillier in 1945 at Quirpon, NL and they raised their family together until his sudden passing in 1962. She continued to raise and support her family alone until she met and married Ronald Strickland in 1973. They moved to St. Anthony where they continued to raise their family, including their only daughter together, Kaye. Blanche was a hard-working woman as a Domestic Helper, Fish Plant Worker and Mother of 12.

Her favorite pastimes included knitting, crocheting, walking, berry picking, trouting, a good crossword puzzle and scratch tickets. Blanche lived and enjoyed life simply with her family that she dearly loved until dementia gradually stole her away from us over the past few years.

Special thanks to the staff of the Charles Curtis Memorial Hospital for the special care they provided over these past months.

Visitation is being held at the Salvation Army Church in St. Anthony beginning Tuesday January 9th form 2-4 pm and 7-9pm, Wednesday January 10th 2-4pm and 7-9pm followed by the Funeral service at 2pm on Thursday January 11th with Majors Morgan and Lisa Hillier officiating with support form Major Anthony Stokes and Major Beverley Dart Stokes. Burial will held at the St. Anthony Salvation Army Community Cemetery following the service.

PYNN, ADA DAPHNE

Ada Pynn was born on may 11, 1933 in St. Lunaire to Thomas and Deborah Bussey. she married Gilbert Pynn of Quirpon on Feb. 27th 1953, they were blessed with 4 Children; 2 daughters and 2 sons, who made them proud grandparents to 3 grandsons and 1 grand daughter. Ada worked a short time with FPI. she was a loving  Wife, Mother, grandmother. she was a very Caring and fun loving person who loved to entertain and bring smiles to peoples faces. .on June 28th 2014 she passed peacefully away at the john m. gray center surrounded my her family . she will be missed by a large circle of family and friends. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her two daughters Elizabeth (Wes), Donna(Don), two sons John (Joyce), and Rick (Glenys), five Grandchildren Cory, Chris, Vanessa, Justin and Michael, Six Great Grandchildren , Two sisters Mable and Betty, Three Brothers Charles, David, and Fred and a large circle of nieces, nephews, and family as well as friends. She was predeceased by her husband Gilbert, Parents Thomas and Deborah Bussey, Sister Effie, June and Nina and Brother Don. The visitation was held first at the funeral home in St. Anthony and Concluded at Central United Church in Quirpon. From which the funeral service took place at 2:00pm on Thursday July 3rd, 2014 with Rev. Gus Pendleton officiating. Burial followed the service in the Quirpon Community cemetery. funeral arrangements where entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatres Funeral home, St. Anthony and Roddickton,  Lee Nippard Funeral Director.
