DUNPHY, AMELIA MAY

December 14, 1928 - March 18, 2024

Passed peacefully away in the presence of her family at the Partridge Berry Path (John M Gray) in St. Anthony on March 18, 2024 at the age of 95.

Amelia was born in St. Anthony to Edith & William Patey. She moved to St. Johns in 1949 and met her future husband, Thomas Lawrence Dunphy. They moved to Corner Brook where 4 of her children were born and then back to St. Anthony in May 1958 where her remaining 2 children were born. Unfortunately, her husband passed away in 1966 at the age of 48 years. She then, got her driver's license and took over the operation of Dunphy Sales and Service as well as the huge responsibility of raising 6 children alone.

She led a very busy life, from working full time, playing broomball, badminton and softball, her weekly card group, 50+ Club and her walking group. Later she worked at Riffs and then worked as a Switchboard Operator at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital until her retirement in 1991.

Amelia will be remembered as a pillar of strength, a keeper of the peace and a very pleasant soul. She welcomed anyone and everyone into her home and was always eager to help. Nothing was ever too much for her to embrace, she would always find a way to get things done. In her words "It'll all workout cause it always does"

She leaves to mourn with so many fond memories, her children Joan (Chris), Carol (Alvin), Paul (Donna), Bruce (Yvonne), Brenda (Nelson) and daughter in law, Audrey; 14 Grandchildren, Kim, Gillian, Michael, Christopher, Terrilynn, Carrolann, Lisa, Carla, Jonathan, Kim, Thomas, Angela, Mark & Steven and 26 Great Grandchildren.

She is predeceased by her husband Thomas, Son John, Sisters; Marie & Frances Brothers; Reuben & Ralph Brother in Laws; Jack & Albert Sister in Laws; Mary & Lucy and special friend, Alfred Slade.

Special thank you to the staff of Shirley's Haven, Curtis Memorial Hospital and the Partridge Berry Path (John M Grey).
