February 5, 1923 - April 18, 2023
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Nellie Humby announce her passing on April 18, 2023, at Curtis Memorial Hospital, at the age of 100 years. She passed peacefully surrounded by her family and went to meet her heavenly father, whom she loved and served her whole life.
Nellie was born in Hooping Harbour on February 5, 1923 to parents Mark and Lucretia Randell. She moved to Roddickton in 1942, where she met and married Herbert Humby. Together they raised nine children.
She was a devoted wife and mother. She loved cooking (and nobody made better bread, rice soup, carrot cake, or turkey dinner than our mom). She also enjoyed knitting, cross stitching, fishing, going to the cabin and search-a-word puzzles. Most of all she enjoyed her daily bible reading. In addition to being a homemaker, she operated a small retail business out of her home for many years.
To celebrate her memory, she leaves behind her children: Eugene (Isa), Calvin, Harvey (Barbara), Shirley, Lawrence (Violet), Marina (Rick), Flora (Will), Yvonne (Eugene), Derrick (Tanya); plus 17 grandchildren, 17 great- grandchildren, a growing number of great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Nellie is predeceased by her husband Herbert, parents Mark and Lucretia Randell, grandson Ian and all nine of her siblings.
She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. We will be reunited again one day!
Public visitations will take place at Calvary Pentecostal Church from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm on Saturday, April 22, 2023.
Her home going service will be held on Sunday, April 23 at 11:00 am, Calvary Pentecostal Church, Roddickton, NL. Officiated by Pastor Mark Locke. Interment to follow.
