May 3, 1928 – October 16, 2023
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother John Way of Savage Cove. After a short illness John passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, October 16, 2023 at the age of 95 years at the Charles Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony.
He was a loving, gentle and kind man, a fisherman, a carpenter, a boat builder, a man of many talents. He could often be seen on the wharf chatting with the fishermen or out on the point watching the boats through his spyglasses or sitting out on his front step. He also enjoyed his weekly visit to the co-op where he would see people and have a little chat. He was always willing to offer a lending hand to his family and in the community.
He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his son Elijah (Cicely), daughters Winnie (Stan), Daisy (Tom); Grandchildren Jeffrey (Joni), Sheldon (Peggy), Chad (Natasha), Denise (Monty), Damian (Trina), Robin (Ivy), Cleon (Vicki); Great Grandchildren Jonah, Sydney, Jayden, Nathan, Tori, Jaxon, Cody, Leya, Brittany, Brody, Josh, Jorja, Daniel, Staci and Benjamin; Sister Winnie (Ken) and extended family and friends.
He is predeceased by his loving wife of 66 years Louisa, Mother and Father – Keziah and Benjamin Elijah Way, Mother and Father-in law Clara and Stephen White, Brothers Llewellyn (Dulcie), Earl (Mary Ellen), Sisters Rachel (Charlie) and Jane.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at Strait of Belle Isle Health Centre in Flowers Cove and to the staff at Curtis Memorial Hospital for their care and compassion.
The only thing deeper than the pain of losing you was our love. Rest in Peace.
Visitation to take place from St. Marks Anglican Church in Savage Cove beginning Wednesday, October 18, 2023 and will continue daily until the funeral on Friday, October 20, 2023 at 11:00 am with Rev. Canon Vernon Short officiating. Interment to follow.
